I'm not gonna lie, even for this veteran of a hundred or more earthquakes, THAT was a serious wake up call.
According to Alaska Dispatch the quake had a magnitude of 7.1 and was centered at Anchor Point which is a little over two hundred miles from Anchorage.
Anyhow besides being awakened in the middle of the damn night, the only real damage done at the Gryphen Fortress of Fearless Blogging, was that a picture fell off my daughter's wall.
However thanks for checking in on me everybody, I appreciate the concern.
.
ReplyDeleteGlad you're OK. What would we do without you?

Peace.
7.1! That is a serious shaker! Or was it? Sarah just mad about SNL!!!
DeleteSeriously glad everyone in AK is ok.
Ok, it was just a squirmish of the earth, you know drill, baby drill, that's the dill! No worries to us bitter clinger's, end times, we all know the dill, bend over and kiss our ass goodbye and its all Obama's fault doncha know...~ Sarah Palin on her shouty page.
Delete++++
Delete9:42, unbelievably, Sarah's actual words are even more preposterous
DeleteGlad that you're OK. We've had a couple very small ones where I live and that was scary.
ReplyDeleteGood to know you're all right, Gryph. I read somewhere that it lasted four minutes. I am not inclined to believe every last thing I read on the internet but, if true, that's some scary stuff.
ReplyDeleteWell it DID go on for quite awhile, but did not feel like four minutes.
DeleteThough to be honest I was still a little groggy.
Four minutes? The rumbling here on the dead lake has lasted for days! Oh, no, please, not the Chef Boyard--OUCH!!!
DeleteInternational Senter for Seismology (ICIS) officials have reported that the epicenter of this massive earthquake was Lake Lucille in Wasilla, Alaska.
DeleteGlad you are okay. Sounds as though it was a memorable night for you and your mom.
ReplyDeleteWe can't keep drilling into our Earth and not expect it to react
ReplyDeleteWhile it's true that deep wells have been correlated with earthquakes, I suspect plate tectonics dwarfs anything we humans can do.
DeleteThats a pretty good shaker! Glad all is well.
ReplyDeleteThe quake was the result of Sarah stomping and screaming over yet another of Tina Fey's flawless impersonations on SNL.
ReplyDeleteHell hath no fury......
DeleteI do believe Sarah and her family pack a LOT of negative energy.
6:01,
DeleteThat is exactly what I told my spouse!
I'm glad you and your property are intact.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if the Palins even noticed or where they too "medicated".
Damn! Glad you are okay...
ReplyDeleteWe wouldn't want anything bad to happen at Palin News Central...
Hate to break it to you, but M7.1 200 miles from Anchorage is a puny earthquake by AK standards. After a quake like that the biggest concern is the 5% or so chance that it will turn out to be a foreshock.
ReplyDeleteHope it's not the prelude the 'Earthquake Movement' is hoping for!
DeleteIt was a pretty serious tectonic event. There have been nearly 50 aftershocks, some as large as 4.2. A spur of the Castle Mountain Fault, called the Bruin Bay fault, runs right through this area. I'm hoping it it wasn't a foreshock because the event was rather unsettling. Haven't had that much house movement since the Denali quake in 2002.
DeleteGlad you and yours are okay!
ReplyDeleteI found your blog when Palin first came on the national scene because I wanted to know more about her. It didn't take long to find out how horrible she was and what a fraud the GOP was pulling.
Thanks for all of your hard work on I.M.! And don't laugh up in Alaska.....we are FREEZING in Central Florida, LOL.
Obama's fault.
ReplyDeleteIt was Obama's fault...
ReplyDeleteI live on the Kenai Peninsula and power was lost as a result. The shaking tossed things from my shelves and I had to clean up. Got pretty cold in my house, but all is restored now and I'm very happy. Homer Electric is the best!
ReplyDeleteAugust 23, 2011, was the only earthquake I and many others on the midAtlantic seaboard have experienced in our lifetimes in Maryland.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you and your mom are okay! <<>>
ReplyDeleteSo many of us woke up today hearing the news and our first thought was of Gryph and his well being!
DeleteGlad you're okay. 7.1 sounds mighty major, even if you're 200 miles away. (I get alarmed when I feel anything over a 4).
ReplyDeleteI understand they've evacuated folks nearer the epicenter due to a gas leak. Please let us know how everyone's doing. And whether Sarah delivers cookies! Again, glad you're okay - lots of people need you.
O/T But it seems that Julia O'Malley has come to Palin's defense with a sob story of how she wasn't always the awful person she is now. Once again, never mentioning how she brought it all on herself.

Julia O'Malley...yuck
DeleteSarah AND O'Malley are getting chewed up in the comments. They both deserve it too! All I have to say is "WTF? Julia" If she still works for the ADN she should be fired!
DeleteIt's the biggest ass-kissing article ever. Julia is a Palin apologist from way back.
DeleteWhat a crock of crap!
DeleteI had forgotten what a terrible writer Julia is. ADN well smart to let her go.
DeletemAKE. iT. sTOP.
DeleteThe O'Malley story was originally posted at the Guardian. Both Palin and her rimjob apologist O'Malley are being savaged in the comments.

Guess it's true what they say...you never get over your first crush.
DeleteDear Julia. That zebra hadn't changed its stripes.
DeleteCBS Sunday Morning just had a great interview with President Obama. What an amazing, intelligent, thoughtful man. I will miss him at the helm. By the way, Mildred, he said he wouldn't do a third term, even if he could. Darn. So much for our dream.
ReplyDeleteQ
Of course he SAYS he wouldn't serve a third term. He has to be coy leading up to his declaration of martial law and remaining President for Life.
DeleteTrue. He is too clever to tip his hand. Muslims are like that...
DeleteIsn't there an old Yu'pik saying that goes something like this
ReplyDelete"Everytime the earth rumbles another illegitimate Palin is conceived"
Congrats to Bristle and her next unknown baby daddy....or did Trackmarks and Jordan start banging instead of fighting?
Glad you are okay, Gryphen. Stay safe in any aftershocks.
ReplyDeleteThat was some scary ass scary shit. A trophy fell from my shelf and the base of it hit my poor kitty right on the back, but other than that nobody was hurt.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny you don't feel like it went on for 4mins.....I felt like it was going on forever. Not as bad after the first maybe 90sec but definitely not a walk in the yard either. I felt my stomach like dropping....and bc it had woken me up I didn't have my contacts in or anything and I just felt so badly prepared for if a fire started or something. I'm making an emergency bag today for future issues like this.
Glad you are all ok and hope there aren't any significant aftershocks. Take care everyone.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear Uncle Gryph and family are OK.
ReplyDeleteHope power gets restored soon to those without.
Just think folks, by the time the voting starts, we may know who is NOT the baby's daddy.
ReplyDeleteKTUU has an interview with our state geologist about cause of quake and some photos of damage.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.ktuu.com/news/news/qa-seismologist-talks-aftershocks-cause-of-big-overnight-alaska-quake/37612526
Maybe Screech is right and Gawd does talk to her. If so I wish she'd listen because I think he's telling her to stfu!
ReplyDeleteGlad you're ok. We were without power most of today, and this morning we had about a half hour of thunder snow, but that's nothing compared to the earth moving beneath your feet. Let me re word that ..... an earthquake.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear everything's safe at Casa Gryphen. I saw a funny comment this morning: when they upgraded the intensity from 6.9 to 7.1 an Alaskan said that it may be a 7.1 on their scale, but it was a 9.0 on the poop your pants scale.
