Harry Reid sees the possibility of a brokered convention for Democrats. Oh swell.

Courtesy of CNN:

In an interview with CNN, Reid said that the race between Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton shows no signs of dying down, even as the former secretary of state had hoped the upcoming Nevada caucuses and South Carolina primary would be her launching pad to the Democratic nomination.

"These races go on for a long long time," Reid said. When asked if that included a brokered convention, he responded "Sure, seriously some of the old conventions produced some good people."

Reid also said, "It would be kind of fun."

Reid's comments reflect the party establishment's growing uncertainty about Clinton's viability and lingering questions about whether she can hold off the Sanders surge.

It would be kind of fun?

Yeah, for the Republicans.

Speaking of the Republicans, there is also talk of a brokered convention to decide their candidate as well.

Could you imagine? Brokered conventions to decide presidential candidates for BOTH parties?

I don't know if I should stock up on popcorn to enjoy the Republican political throwdown, or Tums in order to settle my stomach during a Democratic cage match.

I wonder how they taste mixed together?

I've never been a big fan of Reid. Maybe it's because I find it difficult to trust anyone who is Mormon and claims to also be a Democrat.

What a ridiculous statement you made.
I have in-laws who are Mormon Democrats.
And I know others who are Mormon Democrats.

And how silly that you would not trust a Mormon Democrat.

Only a damn fool would trust a Mormon regardless of their political affiliation. That cult is a dangerous and deadly curse upon this planet. Every goddamn one of them.

      Amen to that, 6:38 AM.

My sexually abused granddaughter would tell you how Mormons have destroyed her life since she was four, and older brothers thrown into walls when they protest.

Be a good Mormon, get your own planet to rule when you die. What utter bullshit.

I think a brokered Democratic convention would be fine.
We do not have the best candidates in the race for the Democratic nomination. We can do better than these two who are running.

I am very disappointed that more Democrats did not come out and run for the nomination.
There are so many Democrats who could have jumped in the race, which would have made it more exciting, and gave us Democrats more choices.
I welcome a brokered Democratic convention.

5:37, I suspect the reason not more were running is the establishment of the Democratic Party were planning a coronation. Look at the debate the other night: the audience was NOT students, the audience was NOT Milwaukee, the audience was hand-picked pro-Hillary. I, too, would welcome a brokered convention, if, and only if, the Establishment realize we have a revolution against the status quo.

    2. The PEOPLE will have no input or power in a brokered convention.

A brokered convention means that the people didn't vote for the guy the puppetmasters have already chosen, so they have to find a way to get their candidate on the ticket without it looking too much like the votes of the people didn't count. Even though they don't count.

  8. I would hope both Senator Sanders and Madame Secretary Clinton could come to some agreement before that were to happen. Meaning...and please wait to read the rest of my comment before judgin'...Bernie should take a step back and realize just what he's got himself in to and think about what the outcome could end up being if he tries to take this all the way.
Don't get me wrong. I love Bernie Sanders. I think he's fantastic. I love a person that calls out the bullies (in this case, the elites of this country) and stands up for the little guy. I love listening to him speak--the Northeast Jewish accent? I love his ideas...what little we know of them. He is touting a message, without a lot of substance to back it up. Revolutions are great. We, as a country, wouldn't be here if there hadn't been one. That being said, I'm not sure, at this time and place, another one is necessary.

President Obama (sigh...so going to miss that man) has put in place many things that will need to be carefully tended. Can Bernie do this?

But most importantly, can Bernie win a general election? I seriously don't think so.

My dear husband, who has libertarian tendencies and truly wants to throw the lot of politicians into the brink, said the other night: "I don't want to listen to this (Repub debate highlights on NPR). I already know who I'm voting for."

I looked at him sort of askance (love that word, so fun) and said, somewhat querulously: "WHAT?"

He said, without batting one of his long eyelashes: "Hillary."

    Just like that.

I dropped the spatula (I was making dinner) and immediately waltzed over and gave him a big ol' smooch.

This is a man who really does not like politicians, who has more Republican leaning tendencies than Democrat, who, as I wrote above, could be called a Libertarian.

    Made my little heart happy.

And, he said this in front of my 9 year old daughter who is an absolute, diehard Hillary fan after watching her performance at the Benghazi hearings (Grammy was "babysitting" that day).

Sorry to be so long in my comment. Feeling wordy this a.m.

    4. You want to broker the convention fairly?

They both agree to be on the ticket. They flip a coin to see who is on the top.

Otherwise, our votes just don't count any more and it's the Democrats with money deciding who they want versus the Republicans with money deciding who they want and the 99% on both sides get NO SAY AT ALL.

A brokered convention means this country is no longer a democracy. Our votes are meaningless.

Democrats need to get out the vote - similar to what we did for the two runs of President Obama and he won both terms in spite of the nastiness and leadership (U.S. Congress) of Republicans!

The Republicans are hollering AGAIN - so much the same bullshit! They couldn't imagine a black man being POTUS and now they can't vision a woman (that is far smarters and experienced than the majority of Republicans - anywhere you look!). Plus, she is extremely cool under fire as she's proved time and time again!!!

We will see President Clinton II, I've no doubt about it.

Republicans have become extremely disliked throughout the country - on all levels of government! Washington D.C., state and local governments. They've done NOTHING for our country except run it into the red (as the majority) on the national, state and local areas.

Vote well America! I'm looking forward to working for my party in my state and city for the good of the country!

‘Hillary Used to Be Such a Boss’

A millennial discovers the HRC her generation never knew.

...Thirteen years later, I and almost all of my friends have accepted the prevailing criticism: Clinton is in the pocket of any number of powerful lobbies; she can’t be trusted to do the right thing; her presidency would represent business as usual. I won’t claim to speak for my entire generation—though many boomers are eager to—but it’s become clear that left-leaning millennials are not picking up what Clinton is putting down. In Iowa, Democratic caucus-goers between the ages of 17 and 29 chose Bernie Sanders by a 70-point margin. In New Hampshire, he won the same age group by 67 points.

Endless theories have been put forward to explain the disconnect: Flighty youths don’t feel strong party ties or any love for the Democratic establishment. They find Clinton too rehearsed, her promises hollow. A generation that came of age in a wrecked economy, awash in student loan debt, wants a revolutionary voice, an outsider, a heaping helping of socialism. I think those explanations are more or less right. But it’s also been suggested that millennials would feel differently about Hillary if we’d been politically conscious during the Bill Clinton years and knew more about her time as first lady.

I set out to discover whether there was some truth to that.

    http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2016/02/hillary-clinton-2016-millennials-nineties-213618

    Hillary’s Woman Problem

...Finally, young women across the country have the chance to finish the job their mothers and grandmothers started, and help vault Clinton into office.

But so far, the opposite appears to be happening: In New Hampshire’s primary, Bernie Sanders, a 74-year-old white man, won 53 percent of the female vote, compared with Clinton’s 46 percent. And his numbers among young women were astonishing: 82 percent of women under age 30 supported him. What’s going on here? Why are millennial women giving up on Clinton? We asked a wide range of women—younger, older, in between, feminists and not—to deliberate on that question. Clinton’s shot at history just might depend on the answer.

Young women are choosing Bernie Sanders over the first serious female presidential contender in history. What’s going on? 12 women weigh in.

    http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2016/02/hillary-clinton-2016-woman-problem-213621

Why Millennials Don’t Care That Hillary Clinton Is a Woman

I want to be a part of history in 2016. And by history I mean: The first woman in the White House. But most other liberal millennials—the same young people, by the way, who flooded ballot boxes and the National Mall for Barack Obama in 2008—don’t. They’re breaking for Bernie Sanders, a 74-year-old white man, instead of the candidate who could usher the nation into a new era by becoming the first female president.

Hillary Clinton’s presidency would be epochal—the first time in 227 years of American history that a woman would lead the White House’s West Wing rather than the East. So why do young people see this election cycle’s “outsider” as another gray-haired white guy?
