After the Super Tuesday results the road to victory for Bernie Sanders seems more filled with obstacles than ever before.

My daughter and I sat here in my office last night and watched the returns.

To say that the debate became passionate would be an understatement.

One of the main points of contention was the question of Bernie's path moving forward.

My personal take was that it was now virtually non-existent.

And it seems I am not alone in that perception.

Courtesy of the New York Times:

Bernie Sanders has vowed to fight for the presidential nomination until the Democratic convention, but the results this evening suggest that he is not anywhere close to being on track to amass a majority of pledged delegates.

Hillary Clinton’s landslide margins in the South and her competitiveness elsewhere translate to an overall lead of around 15 to 20 percentage points nationwide. Her support is anchored by a huge advantage among black voters, who represent nearly a quarter of Democratic voters and have offered her more than 80 percent of their votes — a tally rivaling or even exceeding the share won by Barack Obama in 2008.

Mr. Sanders, despite pockets of strength, has not fared well enough to overcome such a huge deficit among black voters.

Not even a few feel-good wins in states like Colorado, Minnesota and Oklahoma will change that. Mr. Sanders would have needed big wins in these states — by much more than 20 percentage points — to entertain the possibility of overcoming his enormous deficit in the South, where the majority of Democrats are African-American.

Here's more courtesy of The Guardian:

It’s time for some cold hard truths in this presidential election.

Here’s an ice cold one: winning a landslide victory in the mighty state of Vermont is not a foundation for success. Especially if Vermont has been your home since the Jurassic age of politics.

Here’s another: if you hold a victory rally before most of the states have been called, you’re not fooling anyone. When your victorious supporters have emptied the hall before the TV pundits have barely warmed up, you’re actually throwing a consolation party.

And a little more from Fivethirtyeight:

To borrow a phrase from Dan Rather, Hillary Clinton swept through the South like a big wheel through a Delta cotton field on Super Tuesday. She won seven states total, including Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia in the South. She also won Massachusetts and American Samoa. Bernie Sanders emerged victorious in four states (Colorado, Minnesota, Oklahoma and Vermont), but his victories tended to come by smaller margins and in smaller states. The end result is that Clinton has a clear path to winning the nomination, and Sanders’s only hope to derail her is for something very unusual to happen.

There are of course a few articles claiming that Sanders is still in the game, but only a handful.

My daughter was adamant last night that Bernie supporters would never show up to the polls for Hillary, but I was just as adamant that she did not need them, and if they were GOOD Democrats they would vote for the candidate representing the party.

Like I said, it got passionate.

So what do all of you think?

Is this race coming to an end soon, or does Bernie have what it takes to disappoint Hillary for the second time in eight years?

Gryphen, My Son is about your Daughters age and he is for Bernie but says if Hilliary wins the primary he will "hold his nose and vote for Hillary"
I think its time for Bernie to close down his campaign and campaign for Hillary, the specter of a Trump potus is too horrid and we need all all hands on board. Hillary is no Dummy and indeed got the message about everyone not wanting a Same old, same old as potus. However these same Bernie people were Obots who got mad because potus didn't do this or that the same Progressives that didn't show up to vote for a decent congress! Bernie would be in the SAME situation as OBAMA with this scum sucking congress and senate. He couldn't get anything done and these obots/Berniebros would be complaining in two years and whaaaa i'm not gonna vote (Senate/congress) and the Same old shit happens, over and over.
We must unite and some of these Bernie bros who are saying "Bernie or nothing" are Right-wing operatives who would LOVE TO KEEP US from voting for HILLARY!
If Bernie joined Hillary it would indeed present a united and stable front vs the GOP who is in deep shit with a possible Trump winning the primaries.
Just as when Stupid Sarah came on board with McCain and I heard so many people indy, hardcore Repubs who voted for Obama rather than have that meth-freak and her family anywhere near the WH!
And again the door will slam shut on her "dreams" of getting near the WH with Chump.
Somebody is going to pull a rabbit out their ass and chump will be gone. Who knows it may even been his associations with certain people who are national pimps, who actually pimp a secret service and faked a DS pregnancy and her daughter is trying to lure a MOH to sign off as babydaddy...oh so many things can take down chump, even all his bankruptcies and tax paper.

It will have to be before their convention but not too much before b/c tRump will go rogue.
They will have to take him out by associations or "something".
I think that David Duke and Rogue Sarah Palin with her pimp husband, and the Faked pregnancy and the brawl, Tricks Women beating, Brissie fake DNA test, all of 'em any of 'em could be a yoooooge scandal for Trumpster.

You should see a map of Massachusetts -- the entire state is Bernie blue, with just a few dots of Clinton red. She won by the narrowest of margins -- the city votes put her on top. But it would be fair to say that it was a squeaker. In the very bluest blue town in this blue state, she passed Bernie by just 47 votes, and a few more college students showing up for the primary would have turned the tide.
They're studying for their midterms, which must be more important.
Her "victory" in Massachusetts was razor-thin. No one loves her. But, if it's Trump or Clinton in November, there's no contest.
Even die-hard Republicans who can't vote for either are talking about write-ins.

But he is about hte best Loyal OPposition, with all the good that comes from being Loyal Opposition, that I have seen in the U.S., and I think it makes Hillary a better candidate, and also skews the positions to the left, which I also think is good. I expect Bernie will go for quite a while, maybe to the end, and will have fulfilled his primary intention when this started. And I am grateful that HIllary will win the nomination, and that Bernie has forced issues and conversations that needed to be had.

I'll certainly vote for him if he wins the nomination. I hope some of us older folks can convince the younger generation of the importance of voting for whomever the Democratic nominee is. I agree that Sanders should stay in the race as long as he needs and wants to. It doesn't necessarily look good for him in terms of winning the nomination, but it's still early.

The problem is that some of his followers are getting more and more angry and are throwing tantrums left and right.

Just look how they've gone after Elizabeth Warren for daring not to endorse either candidate. There are a lot of vicious comments on her FB page from people who only a couple weeks ago were holding their support of her up as proof they actually want a female pres, just not Clinton. Warren decides not to endorse Sanders and stay neutral and all of a sudden she's a sellout, a shill, and a coward and they will be donating to her opponent when she's up for reelection.

Meanwhile, Sanders feeds their hatred by insisting that Hillary Clinton thought she'd be "anointed," but that's not going to happen. Now I'm not so sure he's going to put his support behind Clinton if (when) she becomes the nominee.

If they care about the future of the country, if they want to see education, clean energy and climate change addressed, if they care about the disabled, poor and elderly... then they will vote for the Democratic candidate.

Why is Bernie Sanders now running for president? He will be 75 if he takes office.

He has been in politics for 25 years or so and now he wants to run? We don't need a president who needs his cookies and warm milk at 9pm before he has to go to sleep.

My thoughts exactly. He has been a great cheerleader for the progressive cause but at 75 it's just a little too late to be thinking of him as an 8 year term president. Hillary will make a great progressive leader without a doubt. I'm for Hillary all the way.

    About that Lousiville Trump rally

People keep putting in their two cents about this video. I held mine in for a while. No, she should not have been shoved. But the media doesn't show you everything. I was there. I had media credentials and was on the riser and had a view of the entire event, including all 75 or so people who were kicked out of this event. If say about 5 of them were blacks. This lady wasn't being peaceful. She was jumping around and bumping into old people, screaming in people's faces, etc. It has nothing to do with the color of her skin. The media hasn't mentioned the two white guys, ONE WEARING A HOMEMADE KKK HOOD, that were immediately kicked out. Or the other 70 something people. Protestors went to this event with the intentions to cause an uproar and intimidate and harass the Trump supporters. Why wouldn't the Trump supporters defend what they believe in? Wouldn't you? No matter what side you're on, there is always two sides to every story. I'll post pictures soon of the massive amounts of white people who were escorted out for interrupting the rally, and then you guys can put your race card away for another day.

Ok, then don't coming whining if trump wins and appoints the second coming of scalia to the supreme court; helps repeal Obama Care and we go back to insurance companies doing it the old way again; see further erosion or backward trend for voting rights, women's rights, LGBT rights. Are u listening to him? He said he would make a great commander in chief because he went to a military prep school. This is who u want in charge of the lives of our military? His son is doing interviews with white supremacists, for Christ's sake. Mussolini and Hitler are sitting in hell going "Damn, this guy is good". To those who say they will stay home, grow up. Bernie has the money to continue on and he has vowed to do so. If he can't win the nomination, he wants to impact the convention and platform and with a large number of delegates, he can do so. It is also possible for some of the super delegates to switch sides if they want. I don't think he will win the nomination, but it is interesting to me how much the MSM wants him to lose and how soon they began writing his obituary. Don't count him out yet. If you are going to judge Sanders family lifestyle then you better not be a defender of Sarah Palin who spends a lot of time away from somebody's DS child. Whenever Sarah leaves town something always happens to her family. While in Hawaii, Sarah gets a call from the police that Willow was in a house that was broken into. Sarah spent a lot of time away from her family and Willow had to settle on getting her GED instead of spending her senior year in school. Oldest unwed high school daughter took her son to her high school graduation and ends up with another child from a second man she's not married to. While Sarah is away from her family chasing after Donald Trump, her drunk son gets arrested for domestic violence, threatened to commit suicide, beat his girlfriend in the face while kicking her. Can't forget a former prostitute outed Sarah's husband as her pimp. So far not one adult child in college. Almost forgot about the Palin Family Drunken Brawl which Sarah arrived with her brawling family. Is that why Sarah spent her time away from her children and husband?

What amazes me about the Clinton campaign is how they project their brand of handling disappointment onto Bernie as if he's going to repeat Clinton's dismal show of behaviors and attitudes during her downfall in 2008. He's kept it classy all the way and I expect him to continue doing so. However, what's most amazing is that they still seem to keep missing a grand opportunity to get people to "like her". Bernie has the personality and drawing power that get young people and independents -- a good part of the voting public -- to the polls. If she stops with all the Republican/Rovian play book tactics, encourage the continuance of the electoral contest between her and Sanders, and stop putting out the message that it's "her turn", only then will she begin to come across as a genuine leader.

I say it loud and clear that I am not a Hillary fan or a fan of those weak and silent Democratic legislators currently in office, but I do believe in democracy. Bernie is my guy. If or when Hillary becomes the nominee, I will vote for her as the candidate who best adjusted their talking points to speak on matters most important to me. What will make it all the more palpable is that she will have Bill there to help her.
