Democratic Texas state senator has office sprayed by gunfire. Isn't that just how Texans say hello?

A gunman opened fire on the Heights office of one of the state's most powerful lawmakers early Thursday, spraying the stately wood structure with bullets but not injuring anyone.

Whitmire said his staff noticed the Yale Street office had been damaged when they arrived Thursday morning and first blamed the overnight storms. When a maintenance worker tried to stop a leak on the side of the house, they realized it was a bullet hole, then discovered several others.

"When you look at the damage, and start tracing it, there are bullet holes here in the office, and at least four slugs... a couple of them ricocheted around," Whitmire said, adding that police told they believe the bullets had been shot from an AR-15 rifle. "There are bullet slugs everywhere. One lodged in a framed picture. It's pretty amazing."

The Houston Police Department and the Texas Rangers are investigating the incident.

The building was empty so there were no injuries.

Sounds like certain less liberal Texans are trying to send a message to me.

Of course if this were the work of Muslims it would be considered terrorism and the authorities would leave no stone unturned, but since it is likely the work of white people, it will just be excused as some good old boys blowing off a little steam.

    "It's pretty amazing."

    Not the adjective I'd use.

Well this should cost TexASS some cash. Everyone of those staffers and their families should now have 24 hour security.

We have insane senators and insane governors here and almost all of the state legislature are Republicans. I wish the state would change, but not in my lifetime. The dumb Democrats here don't vote. It is worth a try people. We have very low voter turnouts in gubernatorial elections years, so we always end up with lunatics. The big cities vote blue, but the rural communities and suburban one vote red. Ugh. Texas is hopeless. I would leave if it were financially possible for me, but I can't do that now.

You'd be amazed. I left a red state for a purple one and it is soooo much better. Even if all you have is the shirt on your back, and have to leave on a Greyhound bus, do it! If you have kids you really don't want them going to a Texas school.
