Number of Texans requesting a license to carry a gun more than doubles in three month period.

Courtesy of The Dallas Morning News:

Requests for licenses to carry guns more than doubled in a recent three-month period, prompting the Texas Department of Public Safety to boost staffing, adjust resources and warn gun owners about how to avoid potential delays.

The department said Thursday that it had received 136,000 requests for licenses in December, January and February. That’s a nearly 140 percent increase over the 57,000 applications submitted in the same three-month period the year before.

The spike follows the trend in recent years of more and more Texans acquiring a license to carry a handgun. Ten years ago there were just under 260,000 Texans with such a license; by the end of last month, there were more than 966,000 active gun license holders in the state.

So now there are almost a million Texans walking around with their metal penis extenders on their person?

You know I was never planning to go to Texas in the first place, but now I am not planning to go there even harder.

Oh here let me explain, "harder" is something that those of us who don't require guns to make us feel like men can become at will.

Please consider supporting the petition demanding open carry rights at that upcoming Cleveland convention. The unprecedented potential to achieve a new Guinness World's Record for "most gunfighters involved in a spontaneous gunfight" is too important for our exceptional nation to miss.

      Thanks for your support.

      VOTE REPUBLICAN! PEW! PEW! PEW!!!

Need a license to carry a gun ? We'll triple our staffing and the number of locations where you can do that.

Want to vote early, or not wait in hours long lines on Election Day ? Well, you're shit out of luck there.

The mental patients have taken over the asylum in Texas.
I remember when Texas was 'blue'. Yes Texas use to be blue, but over the years more right-wing wackos moved into the state from the Midwest, and the South, and turned the state into a red disgrace.

I've lived in Texas all of my 50+ years and growing up it was definitely blue. Ricky Boy Perry and I share the same alma mater, Texas A & M, and when I was there in the early to mid 80s, TAMU was relatively conservative, but definitely liberal when contrasted to today's political climate. It's a shame they have the only vet school in the entire state.

    2. @ 6:44 -- then there is hope red states can turn blue. Right, Alaska?

Yes Barbara, there is hope, especially for states that were once blue, like Texas and Arizona, to turn back blue. I am hopeful.

    Hi Anonymous 6:44 AM
    I'm Anonymous 6:04 AM

I was born in Austin almost 68 years ago. Although my immediate family moved out of the state when I was still a child, I use to visit my birthplace Austin a lot to see relatives.
To this day I love Austin, I have a lot of fond memories of my birthplace.
Yes, I remember blue Texas very well.

I am so glad that my daughter is out of that state, and that she refuses to go back there - even though she was one of the very few who had a concealed carry license (needed it becaue the ex of her bf was armed and dangerous and stalking them...)

I stay home a lot! I swear if I saw someone carrying in a store, I would walk right out their door and not return to any business that allows it.

Texan here. But I have no gun. Sad to see the mess we're in, but hoping to turn blue again real soon. I'm staying because I have a job and too old to get hired elsewhere. Thanks G for all you do and please reconsider visiting Texas, there are a lot of really nice people here.

I am just thankful my immediate family moved out when I was a child.

They are just hateful. They cannot stand the fact that a black man has risen to the highest office in the country. Election by landslide TWICE. This eats at their evil hearts every minute of every day.

The REAL movement WE need to join is are the enormous crowds we can generate by ENCOURAGING these warriors to buy as many guns as they can wear and QUICKLY go about killing each other based on the supposed attackers in their vacinity. Then we'll see who needs more fed money - the county coroners - HA !!!

  13. As a true blue Texan, you're welcome to stay here -- in Austin. Don't count us all out, just like we don't count all of YOUR Alaskan kind out. We aren't all kinds of fucked up, either.

I've been to San Antonio on Business, and found the people there, for the most part pleasant and accommodating. We were dining on a porch with awnings, and every couple of minutes, these sprayers would mist off the edges, landing on people's plates and causing a lot of wait staff grief because they had to replace watered down food. Instead of shutting the damn water off and leaving the fans on, they wasted a lot of time and food. But they were just pleasant as sunshine, apologizing and kissing tourists asses constantly.
There's good and bad in all states, we came across a few bigoted people still fighting the civil war, and they weren't civil about it in any way. Shame that those are the ones that get seared in people's psyches.

That 900+K number is astonishing. The entire armed forces for the US is just over 1.3MM. A portion of active duty personnel is housed in Texas, so there's bound to be some overlap. So, it's very scary to think that Texas has enough armed people to overthrow the Federal Government. The national "team" has bigger weapons to deploy, but by numbers of fighters alone, they might have a chance at usurping the government.
