Some "Bernie Bros" are still saying they will not vote for Hillary in the general if Sanders loses the nomination, no matter what.

Courtesy of Yahoo:

Bernie Sanders has dubbed his presidential campaign a “political revolution,” but some of his supporters are rebelling against the very party he is hoping to lead.

A voluble group of die-hard Sanders backers is vowing online that it’s “Bernie or Bust,” saying they will never support his presidential primary opponent — and, at this point, likely Democratic nominee — Hillary Clinton.

Despite these glimmers of reconciliation with his rival, Sanders may have unleashed a rebellion that will be beyond his power to control when it comes time to unify the party. Some “Bernie or Bust” stalwarts say they won’t back Clinton even if Sanders joins her ticket.

Now see this is why I have a problem taking many of Bernie's supporters seriously.

Hillary supporters are going to vote for the Democratic nominee, even if it is not their candidate, because that is what grownups do.

I mentioned that I spoke to a couple of Sanders supporters at the caucus in Anchorage yesterday.

All of them, including the guy too stoned to talk to me, admitted that this was the first time that they had been politically engaged.

When I asked them why they supported Bernie they essentially rattled off a laundry list of policy positions, most of which Hillary also shares with Sanders.

However it became pretty clear that these folks ONLY wanted to vote for Bernie, and really did not care about any Democrats down ticket who would also benefit from their support.

Sanders is NOT attracting new Democrats to help elect a Democratic majority to take back control of the House and the Senate from the Republicans, while also retaining control of the White House.

For the most part he is attracting young anarchists who really just want to see the entire system upended so that they can see a new, more socialist form of government take its place.

I am not sure how that really helps any of us moving forward.

I am going to include this article from Investor's Business Daily here at the bottom for you to read.

I want to say upfront that I consider it a hit piece on Sanders and should be read with that thought in mind, however it also brings up a number of points that will surely be used in political attacks against Sanders if he were to win the nomination.

It's obvious they are not Democrats. They are probably Repub plants. They want Sanders to win nomination because they think he is the least likely to win the general.

REAL Democrats want to win, and will support WHOEVER is the nominee.

I think Trump wants to use his power in saudi Arabia as president to leverage ability to build hotels. We won't buy your oil if Trump Inc. doesn't get something out of it. I am afraid that this is how he will exploit his power everywhere in the world. On my tax dollar.

It appears that the folks supporting Bernie are missing one big thing that has been discussed, but seems to be ignored by his followers -

All the social things Bernie wants to start a revolution over will cost substantial bucks that will increase taxes paid by all Americans!

Plus, he is dividing the Democratic party! His speeches are getting old and are repeated continuously. He truthfully bores me and I only tune in to him once in awhile.

I have also noted that he gets far more media coverage than does Hillary. In fact, the media spends the majority of their time tearing down Hillary (MSNBC is a good example!) There has been nothing negative put out there by the media concerning Bernie. Just doesn't seem quite fair to me!

First of all there are more than just the presidency on a ballot, there are other seats to fill in the Congress. Local seats, and state seats. Initiatives, and propositions to vote on.

Secondly, by sitting out an election because you candidate did not win the nomination is childless and reckless. You might as well vote for Trump or Cruz, because in essence that will be what you will be doing.

I just hate it when adults act like you, balk when you do not get their way, or your candidate is not chosen in the primary. Please be an ADULT, and vote for the party REGARDLESS who gets the nod to run in the general.
This is why Democrats lost the House and the Senate, because the Democratic electorate tends to be immature and childish, balking and sitting out elections when they do not get their way.
ONE CANDIDATE IS NOT THE WHOLE PARTY. If your candidate does not get the nod, support the party and vote for the candidate who does get the nod.

The GOP WANTS Bernie, because they will unleash the 'commie' ads and people will fall all over themselves to vote for Slimy Cruz or the Egomaniac. They'd best be careful and think. What the heck has Bernie accomplished in Congress in 25 years? WHY do they think that if he's in the Oval Office, he will suddenly wave a magic wand and fix their world? Ain't gonna happen folks. Change takes time. And the revolution they think they are getting will not happen in four years, or 8. Meanwhile, if they turn their back on the DNC, and refuse to vote, then the GOP maintains the House and we need the House and Senate to get anything done at all. Grow up, Bernie supporters. Read some history. And stop trashing Hillary for no reason but spite.

Bernie has shown us that it truly is possible to mount a Presidential campaign without money from millionaires, billionaires, or corporations. If Hillary were doing this, I might be supporting her instead, but there is another huge problem with her: she leans toward war. I personally think she is trying to prove that a woman can be just as hawkish as a man, since the Republicans would certainly lay into her for being too much of a dove if she held Bernie's more pacifist views. I am just done, done, done with big money ruling policy in this country, and I am even more done with perpetual war. Bernie's policies match my own. I am not an anarchist, but I do believe that socialist policies are not inherently bad when socialist leaders are elected by the people. To the contrary, socialist policies are needed more than ever as we use up the resources of this country. We have to share and get along to solve the big problems of the world--global warming, war, poverty. America is no longer full of boundless resources that we can exploit in our capitalist fervor, expanding income disparity even more, without doing serious damage to the earth. Bernie's vision is the vision we all need to have, even if you personally don't like him. Hillary is starting to understand this, as she leans more and more left toward Bernie's positions, and other Democrats really need to do the same. That said, I will support Hillary if I must, but I fully understand why some people don't want to. Many will come around if she's the nominee, but many Bernie supporters may just sit this election out, just as many Republican voters will if Trump is their nominee.

Anon at 3:55 pm. I support Hillary Clinton in this election in part because I do not think that the American people, in general, are willing to pay higher taxes which would be necessary to achieve any of what Bernie Sanders is talking about. And he rarely, if ever, talks about the costs involved in what he would want to accomplish. Maybe he has a magic wand.

The attitude of most Americans is a result of decades of GOP and media badgering and misinformation. When in control at every level, the GOP has deliberately starved government bodies.

Would that we all were as smart as the Scandinavians who know that they pay high taxes but also know that they get what they pay for. It is little wonder that Denmark has again been listed as the "happiest" country in the world. When we were there two years ago, a young man who was working in a museum cafeteria told us that he had spent some time in Milwaukee and could not understand why Americans were so unwilling to pay more in taxes in order to have better benefits, like health care and educational opportunities. He said that taxes were high in Denmark but so were benefits, benefits to everyone.

I'm not convinced that 'the Bernie Brothers' exist. Or, what is seemingly Bernie supporters are some sort of Super PAC Ratf^cking operation. The Bernie supporters I have dealt with understand the importance of down ballot elections, as does Senator Sanders. The Senator often states that he needs a team, which includes the electorate as well as a functioning Congress.

As for paying for the needed infrastructure and social improvements, while some of it pays for itself in benefits to all of us, the remainder can be paid for by reducing the military budget. Imagine if we stopped creating jihadist hotspots how much we'd save on Homeland Security and other related costs. Then, we could consider a progressive income tax with no loopholes, if more funds are needed.

The Romneys, Waltons and several others are an inspiration to bring back the death tax. Do the math. Senator Sanders is more conservative than Eisenhower ever was.

I am not a "devotee" of anything or anyone. I am a critical thinker capable of seeing nuances and making an intelligent decision based as to who is best qualified to be President of the US.

I don't vote based on emotion. Just like I wouldn't hire someone for a position based on emotion. I look for the candidate with the best qualifications. And that's what I am doing with my vote. I am hiring someone to run the country. I want to hire someone with a proven record of success. Like President Obama. By any measure, candidate Obama was a success at his age.

I did notice a lot of people signing up as Dems at our caucus. I hope this isn’t the first time they have voted and I sure as hell hope they aren’t in the Bernie or Bust camp. If so, wake up people, politics is a messy business and throwing tantrums if you don’t get your way is entirely repub/teaparty behavior. We are in this for the long haul and if Bernie doesn’t get the nod we must stand together and make sure we don’t go backwards with the alternative.

  24. Gryphen, am kind of amazed at your Hillary support. Absolutely fine, but the prospect of Bill Clinton rattling around in the White House again is beyond me. I think you omitted a paragraph there, Gryphen, I've arrogantly edited, in brackets.

For the most part he is attracting young anarchists who really just want to see the entire system upended so that they can see a new, more socialist form of government take its place.

[Allowing the conservative, reactionary Republicans to gain the executive branch, at a time when at least one SCOTUS appointment will be up for grabs, and to let them retain the House and Senate, will at least postpone or even deny for the foreseeable future, any move to socialism. Instead, it will move us to an authoritarian fascism.]

I am not sure how that really helps any of us moving forward.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Anonymous1:52 PM

Sanders is NOT attracting new Democrats to help elect a Democratic majority to take back control of the House and the Senate from the Republicans, while also retaining control of the White House."

Gryphon, with all due respect, please pull your head out of your ass.

I support Bernie over Hillary for a couple of reasons, but foremost because Hillary doesn't have the trust of the public. The Republicans did their job, unfortunately.

I will be voting for whoever wins the nomination, just as I voted for President Obama in 2008 and 2012, along with a solid blue ticket in both midterms.

I get that you support Hillary. I think she'd be fine... IF she had the trust of the public. They are just random internet trolls who bully instead of argue or make points and we all know how that works don't we. There is also bullying and sour grapes from the other side which gets people going. Wow, a piece with no author from the IBD,it was said Einstein would amount to nothing too and Bernie has the same hair as Einstein just shorter. Bernie has spent decades working hard for the people of his state, anyone looking for the truth knows that, so attempts by representatives of the 1% who say this, "The choice in this election is shaping up to be a very clear one. It will likely boil down to a battle between those who create and produce wealth, and those who take it and redistribute it" are running scared and not interested in fixing the economic problems in this country. Anyone who knows anything about what is wrong with our economy knows it is the lack of redistribution that is the main problem.

My problem with Sanders is that he seems so singularly concerned about economic disparity that he doesn't give enough attention to things like systematic racism and sexism that are largely separate issues. I wish he addressed these things with the same passion.

I know he worked for civil rights in the 60s and has been a longtime supporter of race, gender, and sexuality rights.

But sometimes he comes off as dismissive when asked about reproductive rights or race issues, etc as if we should all know how he feels about them, before turning back to economics.

I care deeply about the wealth gap. I also care deeply about other issues.

I would still happily vote for him against any Republican, but I wish Sanders would more intensely address these multifaceted problems

Political party loyalist Bernie Sanders sided with the:

    LIBERTY UNION PARTY
Who fell for the Bern (Before 1979)

Until Bernie "burnt" them and threw them under the bus for the:

    INDEPENDENT PARTY
Who fell for the Bern (1979–2015)

Until Bernie "burnt" them and threw them under the bus for the:

    DEMOCRATIC PARTY
Who fell for the BERN (2015–present)

If BERNIE SANDERS doesn't win the 2016 Election ....

    What party will
    PARTY LOYALIST BERNIE SANDERS
switch to and join next year?

Will the REPUBLICAN PARTY be the next party to fall for the BERN?

Will the COMMUNIST PARTY be the next party to fall for the BERN?

Or will the BERN go back to his first love the LIBERTY UNION PARTY?

She is farther left than Sanders on gun control.

She has a long history of supporting gender equality and access to abortion and birth control as well as health care reform (including expanding children's access to health care).

She even fought for civil rights in the 1960s just like Bernie Sanders.
