More on Sarah Palin's climate change denying gig in D.C.

Courtesy of Variety:

Fathom Events and SpectiCast are giving a major push to the anti-global warming documentary “Climate Hustle,” with plans for showings at nearly 400 theaters on May 2.

Variety has learned exclusively that former Alaska governor and vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is participating in the event. The screening of the documentary, produced by Committee for a Constructive Tomorrow and Marc Morano’s ClimateDepot.com, will be followed by a panel discussion featuring Palin, with opening remarks by Rep. Lamar Smith (R-TX), chairman of the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology.

“I’m very passionate about this issue,” Palin told Variety. “We’ve been told by fearmongers that global warming is due to man’s activities and this presents strong arguments against that in a very relatable way.”

Palin noted that, while governor in 2008, she sued the U.S. government over placing the polar bear on the threatened species list because of the rapid decline in Arctic sea ice. Palin pointed to the high population of polar bears in 2008 and dismissed climate models that predict continued loss of sea ice as “unreliable,” “uncertain” and “unproven,” but a federal judge backed the government scientists’ finding in 2011.

“I wanted facts and real numbers,” Palin said. “The polar bear population is stable, if not growing and the designation would have stymied Alaska’s pursuit of developing its natural resources.”

Yes Sarah Palin is always "very passionate" about ignorance. (Alaska Dispatch reminds us that Palin accepted that climate change was real when she was Governor of Alaska.)

By the way speaking of "facts and real numbers" according to a study released in 2014 the polar bear population in the frozen sea north of Alaska has dropped 40% in ten years.

I just hope these people in Washington recognize that this idiot does NOT speak for the majority of Alaskans who not only recognize that man made climate change is real, but have been dealing with its disastrous effects for the last thirty plus years.

P.S. A lot of people, and news outlets, seem to be under the impression that Bill Nye is appearing on a panel and will debate Sarah Palin over climate change.

As much as I think people would pay big money to see that, that is not what is happening:

Variety reported that, according to a spokesperson for Nye, he was not invited to be on the panel. Instead, footage from an interview involving Nye will be shown.

Trust me none of the mental midgets participating in this farce would want to have Bill Nye there to  stick a pin in their climate change denying argument.

As they keep denying climate change and the storms ravage the earth in different stages, we have this conversation. We should be watching Keven Costner's movie Waterworld and teaching our children how to survive the new world to come. Something proactive because talk will walk when you're drowning in your cars. Oh, and another thing, why don't people own boats down there? It their denial that much?

My, my… Did someone pee in your porridge this morning?

When I'm interested enough to look up a reference that someone has alluded to, I then post the URL as a clickable link, so that anyone else who's interested can get to it with a single mouse click. When have you ever done that? I won't suggest that you're lazy—I think it's more likely that you just don't know how.

Have a nice day, and I hope your lunch goes better for you.

(My apologies if this turns out to be a duplicate post. First try was about an hour ago—hasn't shown up.)

I was not expecting love, just a minimal level of civility.

When I wrote, “expecting the person … to copy/paste it” I was attempting to express irony, not a demand. Sorry the overall tone of my comment apparently did not cconvey that.

As I've already stated, I do “take initiative” when a hint at a reference interests me, and I do share the results. Even if I had been inclined to complain about the lack of a link, there already was one posted before I began composing my 8:19 AM comment, which was not a complaint about the lack of a link (let alone a “demand”) but rather a response to what I perceived—reasonably or otherwise—as the snotty attitude of Anonymous 7:42 AM.

I'm glad you're having a great day, and I thank you for the more civil tone of your more recent comment.

Plus, she's in cahoots w/the Republican 'do nothing group' in the U.S. Congress!

She almost lost being reelected last go around and is already putting money together for her next bid. Damn, but I hope Alaskans are paying attention.

She and Don Young don't need to be returned there AGAIN! There needs to be new blood representing Alaska in the U.S. Congress! Younger people with new ideas!

I just read how some people are astounded that trump and palin can be so shallow but garner so much interest.
Bill Reilly interviewed trump. He defined blacks as undereducated with tattoos across their forehead and asked trump how he would handle them. I have to believe that this interview came with a list of questions to be asked and no more.

I am stunned that both felt they could get away with talking like this.

The GOP CO of Colorado has received over 3000 death threats from trump sympathizers because trump is angry about colorado outcome. I never thought I'd say this but I am glad we have guns. However, ours are kept in a safe and while we no longer hunt for food, we do shoot trap and skeet.

A group of youngsters just won a major decision in their efforts to sue the federal government over climate change. An Oregon judge ruled Friday that their lawsuit, which alleges the government violated the constitutional rights of the next generation by allowing the pollution that has caused climate change, can go forward.

Federal District Court Magistrate Judge Thomas Coffin ruled against the federal government and fossil fuel companies’ motions to dismiss the case, deciding in favor of 21 young plaintiffs and Dr. James Hansen.

President Obama set as weeklong guest host for Science Channel nightly news segment

Science Channel's nightly news series is getting a high-profile visitor this week.

Mashable has learned that President Barack Obama is set to act as a guest presenter for five editions of the network's evening news program, Science Presents DNews, starting Monday night.

In the short segments, Obama will deliver updates on a wide range of timely topics, including innovations in public health, space, and technology.

His appearance in the news segments, which air every weeknight at 9 p.m. ET on the Science Channel, comes during a week that will see many science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) related-activities — including the 2016 White House Science Fair (taking place April 13) and the USA Science & Engineering Festival.

"Advances in science hold the promise of achievements as varied as improving human health, combating climate change, and reaching Mars," said White House Associate Director for Science Dr. Jo Handelsman in a statement to Mashable. "All this week, the President is continuing to underline the priority he places on advancing science, and the critical role it plays in the betterment of our nation and our world."
