Welcome to the New York primary, and remember to drink responsibly. Update!

John Kasich not pictured because, you know, who cares?
Okay so this is a big one my friends, as there are 247 delegates up for grabs on the Democratic side.

If Hillary does as well, as has been predicted, there will be increased pressure on Sanders to leave the race.

If she does not quite as well and still wins there will be increased pressure on Sanders to leave the race.

And if Sanders wins by a small margin there will be increased pressure on him to leave the race.

Essentially no matter what happens tonight there will be increased pressure on Sanders to leave the race.

As for the Republican side with 95 delegates up for grabs, well Trump is going to take the lion's share of those there is absolutely no doubt.

Let the games begin!

Update:  MSNBC is calling the New York primary for Donald Trump. No surprise there, but more notably they are calling the Democratic primary "too early to call."

That does not sound good for Hillary.

Update 2: MSNBC is calling New York for Hillary with 61% of the votes.

I think an important question is whether the Sanders supporters will work for and donate to the Clinton campaign. Sanders seems to be trying to build political capital so he can have an influence on the next administration.

NO they will not. Just like Sanders has refused to campaign for down ticket candidates across the country.
But, as Hillary supporter I don't think Don Quixote tilting at windmills would help her anyway.

A lot of independents are complaining about not being able to vote.

People do not realize that the Republican and Democratic parties are not the government. State by State, the R's and the D's decide the rules for their primary/caucus or State convention.

New York chooses to have a closed primary, which means that unless you are a registered R or D (as of last October), you cannot vote in the primary.

I suspect this will help Hillary tonight. Bernie does better with independents than with registered Democrats.

I am hoping that Hillary blows it out the water tonight and makes it mathematically impossible for Bernie to win the nomination.

But we will see. Certainly I am voting for whomever we Dems choose; state by state.

Exactly- primaries are for parties to choose the person they want to run for them. If independents don't like that they should join a party, and not just 24 hours before the primary (allowing them to vote in both primaries when they aren't on the same date.)

It's the same here in AK. I've always been registered Independent and can't participate in either party caucus.

It is an election rule in many states, and has been for years, that's part of the deal for registering independent. You have no vote in the primaries, only the general.

Well, one bit of good news, sort of. I voted in NY today and the man in front of me could not vote because he wasn't registered -- as Republican -- and thought he had been for years. Guess he never voted in a Primary before. Just wish he had been Independent so he couldn't have voted for Bernie.

If they want to blame anyone they should blame Bernie for jumping parties for $$$$$$. But they won't do that, they will whine and snivel that unregistered people or people registered to vote in another party aren't allowed to vote in the Democratic Party. They are whining dumbasses and nothing more.

  5. Games indeed! OMG the games they are playing with our voting rights! I don't live in NY but I have many friends who do and MANY of them found themselves "not on the list" to vote when the went to their polling places today. Brooklyn for most of them but also Queens and Manhattan. When they called their board of elections, they were told to accept the affidavit ballot they were offered. Some were told to take a provisional ballot. One said the poll worker didn't know what either of those even were. I do not know who any of them are voting for (it was started on my friend's wall and became a HUGE discussion of voters she knew that I do not know at all) but I know that this is BULLSHIT. My friend and her friends were all long-time residents at the same address, voters, never had issues before. I heard this was going to happen but didn't know if it was just crazy talk. They tried this in Ohio, where I live, but we were able to stop it before our primary. I am SO ANGRY about this. WTH is going on here?

You are too idiotic for words. If they are too lazy to get involved in the political process unless it is jumping on whatever bandwagon tickles their fancy. This rules have been in place for many, many election cycles. But it is clear neither you nor your friends vote regularly or you would know that. Take your entitled outrage elsewhere.

From the Washington Post earlier this evening:

"In New York City, the Board of Elections conceded that tens of thousands of Brooklyn voters had been purged from the voter rolls and residents complained about problems at polling sites across the city. Angered by the news, city officials announced plans to audit the agency and New York Mayor Bill be Blasio said he wanted the problems fixed in time for congressional primaries scheduled in June."

So the Board of Elections is aware of it and looking into why voters were purged. If it also happened in other boroughs, they are probably looking into it there also.

    4. 4:54, Fuck you. Seriously. My friend ARE registered for their parties. I just don't ask which. They have voted in every fucking election since they were old enough to vote. Their children vote, too. This is BS. They are not "undeclared" or "independent" I just don't know for sure if they are rep or dem because we don't discuss that stuff. How the hell does that make me an idiot? And in Ohio, btw? You can vote as in independent, and I know that and I voted in the primary as such. I knew my own rights. My daughter will be 18 by the general and as such, in allllll other OH elections she would have been able to vote in the primary. This year? They tried to sneak it away - NOBODY knew about it - either party, I don't think, from what I know - they changed the rules at the end of last year, slipped it through. And ha ha ha it obviously WAS bullshit, since a judge overturned it without HOURS of people bringing it to the court's attention. My daughter was able to vote. :)
SO STFU don't call me an idiot. OR lazy. If you knew me you'd be ashamed. Or maybe not, but really, you are the idiot here.

I live in a heavily Republican part of upstate New York. When I went to vote, there was a medium-sized line in front of the Democratic table where we got our ballots but no line in front of the Republican table. The woman there kept calling out, "Any Republicans? Come over here." But no one stepped over to her table. My guess is that many people could not stand any of the Republican choices and just stayed home.

How do you tell 14,814 young college drunks you wasted their $27.00 keg money to speak for 10 minutes in Rome and 5 minutes to shake Pope Francis's hand when you should have stayed in New York campaigning?

I don't know if you saw Samantha Bee last night but she had a group of Bernie supporters on and most of them were old, over and a few over 50 or even older. Your characterization of Bernie voters is nothing but a false stereotype.

And how many college students get involved in politics, much less vote? Hello, my 6 years in school I couldn't have cared less who was running or even when elections were held, voting was for old people. My cousins, who are now in college, are the same, no interest, no knowledge, and definitely not registered to vote. That's not what college is for.

I think what's fascinating to me is that after being an elected Senator twice and living in NY for 16 years that registered Democrats would even give Bernie the time of day.

      Anon 7:18P
No, I wasn't. My point is that Sanders kept the race close enough that the input of another party would have changed the outcome more to his favor and narrowed her lead. Again, according to the graphic image, it looks like the entire state of NY wanted someone else.

      Anon 7:19P
re: CNN/Van Jones - Seeing as though African Americans only make up about 13-17% of the population, the remaining 83-87% of the population (races and nationalities) spoke up and said they preferred Sanders to Clinton.

      Anon 7:21P
I think the people that cast their vote for Bernie wanted to symbolically show their appreciation for another candidate that they relate to. That's the win. Remember, going in, Bernie wasn't even supposed to resonate with ANYBODY -- regardless of whether he outspent or not. That means he introduced an alternative to Clinton that appealed to New Yorkers. Now she knows without a doubt that she's got a lot more work to do to win their vote.

      Anon 7:24P
If Bernie outspending Hillary is all it took to reduce her homegirl creds in her own backyard, then Hill's got bigger problems. Independents should help choose the Democratic part's nominee because the DNC said they could. Take that issue up with them not out on Independent voters. Hint: Follow the money!
