Donald Trump is now attacking Hillary Clinton's religious faith. So does he think she's a secret Muslim too?

This is how much of my brain I use on daily basis.
Courtesy of Politico:

Donald Trump questioned his Democratic opponent’s Christian faith Tuesday, telling a closed meeting with top Christian leaders that “we don’t know anything about Hillary in terms of religion.”

“Now, she's been in the public eye for years and years, and yet there's no -- there's nothing out there. There's like nothing out there,” the presumptive Republican nominee said in a video released on Twitter by Virginia Christian conservative (and former Senate candidate) E.W. Jackson.

“It's going to be an extension of Obama but it's going to be worse, because with Obama you had your guard up; with Hillary you don't, and it's going to be worse,” Trump added on Tuesday.

To be clear Hillary Clinton has been very open about her Methodist Christian faith, and attends church with some regularity.

On the other hand the Pope himself said that Trump was not a Christian.

Essentially Trump seems to have run out of attacks that are specific to Hillary, and now is dredging old anti-Obama conspiracy theories.

It appears that perhaps Trump was responding to this statement from Hillary:
Damn! That is some seriously thin skin ole Trump has there.

Okay can we all agree now that Donald Trump is a crazy person?

Some people were raised in a lot of different ways, ways that are harmful to their mental wellbeing.

Religion is one of the most harmful things that parents can impart unto their children and the sooner it is relinquished in the pursuit of critical thinking the better.

Poor Jamie Foxx's kids, being indoctrinated into a fairy tale beliefs without having any choice. At least he's rich enough that they never need to really try to live and function in the real world, because their religious brainwashing is a detriment to success.

I hope they can rise above their brainwashing.

It is NOT a negative. I read the scriptures as does most believers.
You non-believers should stop trying to bully those of us who believe in God.

You need to learn to not judge people who think differently than you. People have the right to live their lives as they see fit, as long as they are not hurting anyone, or victimizing anyone. It is not your place to judge them.
Learn to co-exist with those of us who are different than you, who live differently than you.
Some of us read the bible, and love the Lord. THAT is our right.

I respect your right to be an atheist if that's what you are.
Please respect others right to be a believer in God.

4:22 You make a very valid point but the religion issue goes off the rails when it is injected into the political dialogue. I'd wager there are over 20,000 different sects of religious beliefs in this country alone. Therefore, none of them are qualified to say they have the 'truth' for everyone.

I don't agree with those who bash others who hold religious beliefs either. I'm not a Catholic but I recall how angry I was at those who criticized JFK and declared him unfit for the presidency because he was a Catholic.

To those who live by the creation story I wonder how and why they went so off the rails at their fellow humans hating them for their color or their religious beliefs. If we are all created by 'G-d' how did a select few get the authority to decide who is a fit human when judged by color or personal interpretation of religion. I'm pleased the founding fathers thought to inject a separation of church and state into our democracy.

Here's an example of what the 'good Christian lawmakers' of Texas are doing to help the less fortunate.

A lawsuit was holding up a 25% cut, passed by state legislators in 2015, in Medicaid funds going to pay for in-home therapies like speech, occupational and physical therapies, for children with disabilities. Now that the lawsuit has been lost, the cuts will go through after all, starting in July. Children who don't receive the early intervention that has been proven to significantly improve their quality of life in the future, will need greater special education services in schools, which are already struggling under state budget cuts.

This from a state that prides itself on being pro-life and whose Lt Governor tweets out bible verses every Sunday. This is what our country can look forward to if we don't rid our government of heartless Republican politicians.

The more crazy things he sends their way about his opponents the farther he and they get from have to talk about solid issues that concern our nation. It's a well played ploy. Said it before and say it again, that if Hilary doesn't get into it with him, she'll be fine. The minute he starts name calling and she gets in with him, the shit hits the fan. She has to be the adult in this game because no one else will. I mean, look at how he managed to implicate Cruz's father into the JFK assassination. 2. Heard some interesting stuff about Italian society on NPR a few weeks ago. Those who "rule" society are old, old wealthy and powerful families. Berlusconi, on the other hand, was an outsider from a poor family, who made his fortune in the media (newspapers, TV etc.) and he became popular with the outsiders/poor folk) who have always resented the rich and powerful. It took them awhile to recognize him as the crook and basically despicable human being he really is.
And yes, the Italians see a similarity between Berlusconi and Trump, although Trump's wealth was inherited. They certainly do recognize Trump as a danger to the world; their former hero made Italy a laughingstock. But the good news is that both Rome and Turin (or was it Milan) recently elected female mayors, and abortion is now legal, so Italy is finally in the 21st century!

  34. I don't know if Clinton is a true believer or a good actor. Nor do I care. Throughout the years, she and Bill have been consistent in their expressions of faith. Again, I don't care if they were nothing but show. As silly as I think it is, public officials are expected to demonstrate their piety. What interests me about Trump's meeting with the so called religious leaders is the blatant hypocrisy. It doesn't take a genius to recognize Trump knows almost nothing about the bible or faith. And yet those esteemed men of conscious sat with a charlatan and came away with expressions of support. As one said on MSNBC last night, it's not about one's past, but where one is now, which is an indication of spiritual growth. The religious community for the most part has always been in bed with the GOP. This is the way that meeting was going to go before it even started. Real men of conscience would have rejected the insinuations about Clinton, but that was not going to happen because the religious community likes to stoke fear and uncertainty about Democrats.

I read a lot here about being open minded to the fact that many people have a deep and abiding faith. That's find and I respect that. What I don't respect is people who wrap themselves in the values and principles of faith and yet have no trouble whatsoever endorsing racists, bigots, liars, and charlatans. In that meeting with Trump, religion took a backseat to politics.
