President Obama on the Tonight Show expresses concern over the what has happened to the Republican party.

Courtesy of Time:

President Obama told Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday that he’s “worried” about the future of the Republican Party in light of the rise of presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump. President Obama sat down with Fallon on the set of the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon for an episode that will air in full Thursday.

“The truth is actually I am worried about the Republican Party. And-and I know that sounds– you know– you know what it sounds like,” President Obama said in response to a question about whether he thinks Republicans are happy with their nominee. “You want the Republican nominee to be somebody who could do the job if they win. And you want folks who understand the issues. And where you can sit across the table from them and you have a principled argument. And ultimately can still move the country forward.”

First off let me say that I loved the President's first response to that question about the Republican's being happy with their candidate. Sounds like something I would say.

But secondly his real answer was perfect as well.

You know as a liberal I am always pushing for a liberal agenda and I get frustrated when it either gets blocked by the conservatives or watered down enough to be more palatable to both sides.

But to be honest I realize it is part of the process for folks in Washington with different ideologies and different agendas to work together to help represent ALL of the American people to the best of their abilities.

That is why I raged to hard against the take no prisoners approach of the Teabaggers and part of why I was never a Bernie Bros.

If you demand ideological purity from all of your politicians you will never see one thing accomplished for ANYBODY.

Somehow or another that simple truth seems to be eluding many people these days.

I don't know about you but I am looking forward to Obama making the rounds on late night TV on a regular basis, hamming away at Trump. He does it so good.

The funeral is waaay overdue. Rience Prebus and his autopsy of the GOP happened more than a year ago, right?

Does this mean Sunny and Levi won't have the 6% interest now?

Sunny is dynamite. I hear she has closed Facebook in order to concentrate more on her photography. Talk about the bright side and making lemonade from a lemon.

She could have whined or gone out and had dirty sex like Bristol. Not Sunny! What an amazing woman.

Politics is the art of compromise. Unfortunately, for the GOP, it's a lost art.

If Richard Nixon ran today, he would be booed out of the party as a hopeless left-wing socialist whackadoodle. Whatever his faults, and they were legion, he also opened relations with what we then called "Red China," presided over the startup of such things as OSHA, Amtrak and the EPA, favored sensible gun laws, and even flirted with gasoline rationing after the 1973 OPEC oil embargo. Imagine a Democrat trying to say such a thing these days. Shows how far right people like Rover and Cheney have driven us.

I am constantly amazed that there are people out there who don't understand that President Obama could have moved this country much farther forward had the Republicans in Congress been so permanently obstructionist. Their tantrum began on January 20, 2009, and it has not ended yet.

Not only has the Supreme Court nominee not gotten the hearings and votes that he deserves but the ZIKA virus has now infected over 1730 Americans and caused infant deformities in two cases and the GOP still refuses to act on the President's requests for aid. Yet, God forbid a pregnant woman with ZIKA opt for an abortion.

The GOP is not a happy group of people. They are, all of them, mean and greedy, unkind and selfish.

And the reason they republicans were able to do that is because progressives abdicated their god damned responsibility and sat out both midterms.

No, we did not! here in MI, we had several million MORE Dem voters, and we were liquidated by GOP gerrymandering. Please, the GOP did this..they catered to lobbyist Norquist and wrote the letter to Iran. They have taken over state houses with promises unkept, and jobs lost, and unions and schools and whole towns gutted. They will get theirs. We take the nation back in November!

In Maryland republican Larry Hogan was elected governor in 2014. It also happened to be an historical record low turnout of democratic voters in Maryland.

If Demicrats turned out for mid terms, and local elections, the republicans would not have been elected in the first place, which enabled the gerrymandering

“How long did it take your staff of 823 people to think that up,” Trump wrote on Twitter, quoting Clinton’s earlier post. “And where are your 33,000 emails that you deleted?”

Can we have a symbolic funeral for the GOP? Light a huuuuuge fire, and pile them on in effigy, glitter bomb the hell out of them?

This is after the autopsy from when Mitt the Shit lost, and they have Trump? The most divisive, bigoted, whining two year old with bona fide troll doll hair.
If this is the new, big tent, more inclusive new and improved GOP, they can shove it.

The word "compromise" has become the dirtiest of words to the GOP. That begat the Tea Party, which has resulted in today's GOP mess. For the past eight years, President Obama has tried to reach compromise with the GOP in Congress; he has failed with them because they think that compromising with Democrats is tantamount to betraying the wishes of Grover Norquist or the Koch brothers. So Congress has done virtually nothing whenever the GOP has been in the majority.

It would be devastating if the word "compromise" became a dirty word for Democrats. Was it Truman who said that "politics is the art of compromise"? I'm not sure; he may have been quoting someone else but it is certainly true. Compromise is essential to the working of government both here and internationally and to successful living day to day in a complex world.
