Over one quarter of donors to Sanders campaign are unemployed.

Courtesy of the LA Times:

“ Bernie Sanders is running on a platform to lift up the have-nots and to improve the system of government we have, so that no one will ever be left behind. ”

"No one will ever be left behind." That quote came from one of Sanders' small dollar donors, and it seems to reflect the point of view that a lot of his supporters have about what he can accomplish as President.

But that is based on fantasy.

President Obama has made improving the jobs market his main focus for the entire seven and a half years he has been in office, and he has by all accounts done an amazing job. But obviously there are still those "left behind."

How in the hell do these Sanders supporters believe that he can accomplish more?

And that is only one of a number of promises that Sanders would have absolutely no way of keeping.

For fuck's sake he is a politician, not the freaking Wizard of Oz.

If elected he would run into exactly the same road blocks that confronted President Obama, and I would argue even more since working with a self identified socialist would be a death sentence to the career of any conservative, and a number of liberals in purple states as well.

In my opinion these promises by Bernie Sanders are irresponsible and are taking advantage of the politically naive and desperate.

And if a quarter of his donors are unemployed then exactly where is the money they are sending Bernie Sanders coming from?

From the parents of college kids? From unemployment benefits?

In other words is the money being taken from older people, possibly Hillary supporters, under false pretenses? Or is it coming from government funds provided to feed and clothe these individuals which is instead going into the pocket of Bernie and Jane Sanders?

And if these donors are literally giving their last cent for a promise that will simply never come, just how desperate is that making them.

The answer, very desperate:

Call them Hillary’s home-state haters.

A group of rabble-rousing Bernie Sanders supporters from New York is headed for the Democratic National Convention next month as hand-picked, at-large delegates -- and they’re threatening to make trouble for Hillary Clinton at the very moment she hopes to make history as the first female nominee of either party and unite Democrats for the coming battle with Donald Trump. Story Continued Below

The disgruntled Sanders delegation, heading to Philadelphia with deep reservations about Clinton’s brand of center-left pragmatism, serves as a reminder of how contentious the four-day meeting could become, and a warning to Democrats of the importance of bringing Sanders happily into the fold.

Some 20,000 protesters are reportedly planning anti-Clinton protests outside of the convention hall. But interviews with members of Sanders’ New York delegation reveal that supporters of the Vermont senator are also considering bringing some of those protests inside the Wells Fargo Center itself — raising the prospect of an embarrassing spectacle on prime-time TV.

So fueled by frustration that the false promises of Bernie Sanders will not materialize these misguided young people are going to lash out at the only political party working to give them what they want.

That is what the Bernie Sanders campaign has wrought, that and nothing more.

And what do you think these folks want in return for their "donations" to Hillary?

Even with better ideas and the best interests of the United States and its citizens in mind, Democrats always have a tough road to hoe. There's always a democratic constituency that can't be bothered to vote, can't be bothered to show up, and always asks too much. Now we know who they are: Bernie Sanders supporters. You weren't going to vote anyway.

Everyone forgets that we totally rejected Hillary once, in favor of a half-black man that didn't have nearly her political record but who offered some hope and change, which he wasn't really able to fully accomplish, but still, we've said no to Hillary once, and we'll do it again.

What part of her doesn't understand that a lot of us just really don't ever, ever want to vote for her?

Well nothing our legislation has done has affected the economy or market. The president holds no power and deserves no credit or blame. The economy never stops changing regardless. While 2010-2013 were rough and things still are rough, more and more people are taking things in their own handsand risking it all to start businesses. I have 8 friends who just opened restaurants in Ny and Chicago. One in LA.

    This "study" is incredibly flawed.
If 28% are unemployed that means that 72% ARE employed, 72% would be the majority.

Yep, I so love having had President Obama lead us these nearly completed two terms and look forward to voting for Hillary Clinton as our next POTUS.

She will demolish the fat, wide-assed Donald Trump who is NOT fit to hold the position of POTUS. He is a proven racist via his own words!

Remember how the Republicans had polls galore indicating Senator Obama and then President Obama would never be elected POTUS? They were so wrong and had to eat their words! So then they chose to obstruct him in any manner they could throughout his nearly completed second term.

It was so damned much fun watching President Obama succeed in spite of the jerks! They are really going to hate it when he is named one of the most outstanding POTUS that has served our country! He and VP Biden have done a superb job to which I say 'thank you, kind sirs'!

And, now they are hollering similar crap about Hillary Clinton even though she is white! They just don't like having another Clinton in the White House, or a strong, government experienced WOMAN being our next POTUS.

They - REPUBLICANS - just never learn...lie, lie, lie...pick horrible candidates and load the airwaves with baloney poll results and falsehoods about their competition! That has become their common scenarios on national, state and local levels throughout the country!

Remember the falsehoods that Mitch McConnell has told - especially about President Obama?

McConnell is NOT a gentlemen even though from the 'southern' State of Kentucky (where I was born too!).

He's proven himself to be a rich racist (against blacks), just shoveling what he was taught as a boy. Wonder how many slaves his family members owned that came before him? Hope everyone watched the current "Roots" series on TV. It truly was historical and gut wrenching! Some Americans treated blacks horribly as their slaves and it is still occurring in some areas of our country today (other races included!).

After the Civil War, the black slaves were to be set free by their plantation owners, but the majority were not. They kept them in poverty, working their fields (cotton) and very few were able to get out from under their owners (escape) and make it on their own.

Good luck Hillary Clinton! You are stronger and smarter than the majority of the Republicans we see, or hear from, on a daily basis! I look forward to giving you my vote in November.

Mitch McConnell is going to be on one of the Sunday shows tomorrow. I will not watch him, but will review what he says on the internet. I detest the man needless to say! I find him very, very evil!

We give our money to plenty of worthy non-profit, tax-deductible causes, but padding the pockets of politicians? Thanks but no thanks.

I feel very badly for those that get suckered by our system. There are so many more worthy causes to donate to, if one must, rather than feed a machine that is very broken and already in the pocket of the unbelievably wealthy. These people don't need your money, they've already been purchased by people richer than you can imagine and I'm sorry but your measly $500 or $1000 dollar donations aren't going to make any difference in how they operate.

    2. Anonymous6:51 PM

I'm not chastising anyone. I just fully believe in making my money work for me or providing direct relief.

The odds are not in ones favor on the blackjack table, the collection plate at church does nothing but purchase a larger parsonage for the already overpaid pastor, and throwing money into the political toilet is even worse.

Now don't get me wrong. If I was one of the 1% I'd give until it hurt, because ya know what, I'd see a return, I'd have purchased myself a special interest vote, a piece of legislation that would enable me to make even more money so I could purchase even more legislation, more votes, more influence in DC.

However, unless one is of the financial persuasion that is able to actually purchase personal attention in one of the three branches of our Government you may as well just spend it on something else that benefits you or someone else that is needier than you. Directly, not through a scamming grifting church or rotten charity that doesn't meet charitable standards. Hell, I bought a guy a $50 in groceries last week. He came to my car, he said he needed money for groceries so I walked him into Carrs/Safway and bought him some groceries, mostly non perishable, but some fresh fruit, veggies and juice too. He probably wanted money for booze, but instead he got a couple of meals.

  13. @5:54PM Actually, 100,000 average people who donate $50 each is $5,000,0000 compared to 100 rich people who each give $1,000, which is only $100,000. I consider it my civic duty to donate to Democrats, and it adds up. I don't care if it isn't tax deductible........it's just one of those things that a citizen has to do in order to not let this country become completely run by corporations. Oh, and VOTING, that's important too, because despite Citizens United, corporations still can't actually vote.

As far as Bernie goes...........not only is he a socialist, but I think that he's probably an atheist too, and he was definitely a conscientious objector during the Vietnam War. It doesn't constitute any big hand clap at all. Bernie was never drafted and never served ( as thousands of others did) as a CO in our military. You might want to educate what the draft was before waving a huge flag that is much ado about nothing. Bernie did not challenge the draft at all, but got married to avoid it one yr and his GF knocked up another 18 months after that.
As for his communist/socialist political identity, most people could care less and dislike him for other reasons.

I work with young (and not so young) people at a technical college, educating them and finding them jobs in technical fields. The employers I work with are crying for help- but the jobs require specific skills, not a 4 year learn-to-think-high-thoughts degree but soldering, optical fiber splicing, electronic measurements. Friends who work with sheet metal and machining companies say the same thing- lots of jobs, no skilled workers. Maybe these unemployed folks should stop thinking of skilled work as beneath them and learn some useful skills that lead to employment. Not everyone needs a 4 year degree.

^THIS. What people are really angry at President Obama about (besides the obvious) is progress. They're pissed that the skills they had 20 or even 10 years ago aren't as valuable now as they were. Of course they're also justifiably pissed that they have to take on the equivalent of a mortgage for a college education, but Bernie is writing checks his ass cant cash, and Trump couldn't give a flying fuck. But I digress...you're right. There are lucrative jobs to be had if people would just admit to themselves that they need new skills.

Oh please. I graduated with a teaching certificate in 1976. I taught one full year, subbed other years, and now teach private music students in my home. I also worked in two great libraries, waitressed, rated two wonderful kids (an engineer and an attorney, both happily working,) was a parapro in a 1st grade room for 8 years where I graded papers and helped young readers, help at two schools with brass players and solo and ensemble groups, and have done lots of things.
We were told in college that we would change careers a half dozen times. My husband is a retired (38 years) chem engineer, but his job description changed every few years, and we moved five times with the company.
If you're relying on skills from 20 years ago, yeah, they are NOT as valuable as then, and if you haven't learned new ones, I do not see how that is Obama's fault.
Community colleges are open to everyone, and are cheap. Learn something marketable.

For those of you that would like a breakdown of donors to the Clinton & Sanders campaigns, you can find the breakdowns at OpenSecrets.org:

    Here's Clinton's numbers:

    Here are Sanders numbers:
    https://www.opensecrets.org/pres16/indus.php?cycle=2016&id=N00000528&type=f

Hillary Clinton's top contributors are the Securities & Investment Industry with over $28 million in donations for the 2016 cycle.

Bernie Sanders top contributors are found in the Education Industry with approximately $5 million in donations for the 2016 cycle. The third largest contributors to Bernie's campaign are Retired!

So 28% of Bernie Sanders donors are unemployed

Their spirits are lifted because Bernie Sanders is going to raise minimum wage to $15 an hour.

I'm all for raising minimum wage but is Bernie Sanders telling America that McDonald is going to pay high school students $15 to flip hamburgers? $15 an hour to fill soda cups? So in order for McDonalds to pay $15 minimum wage how much will they raise their hamburgers to pay these wages? If people are not willing to pay $5 for a regular no frills hamburger, how long will these $15 an hour hamburger flippers stay employed? Now because of Sanders you will now have teenagers who can't find jobs roaming the streets with no money and nothing to do. But why would 77 year old Bernie Sanders care when he already died of old age?

Yes raise minimum wage but what Hillary Clinton suggests makes more sense. Hillary says let's raise minimum wage but let's make it more reasonable.

I admired Bernie until I ran across this Vox’s new presidential tax calculator

There's not just haves and have nots anymore. There are the have nots, the have enoughs, and the have more than they'll ever need for generations to come. I'm one of the have enoughs who put most of our money into dining, shopping, home improvements and travelling. Bernie wants to take that away from us to give to the have nots. The billionaires that are sitting on their billions are not going to pump the money into the economy that Bernie wants to take from those of us who do spend.

According to this calculator, Hillary wants about $1 a day from me. Trump wants to give me about $600 a month, but I don't want to live in the world he takes that money from. Bernie wants almost $1000 a month from me.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and assume I'm not the only one who expends a lot of my expendable income. We're the ones that are going to put people out of work because we're not shopping or dining out or doing home improvements anymore. Then we'll all be have nots.

He may mean something as benign as a shift in political ideology but lots of people hear "let's ignore the rules, take to the streets and cause mayhem." It's time for Sanders to be specific about how physically riotous he wants his supporters to be. The stakes in November could not be higher and we know the GOP will take advantage of every opportunity to foment discord and chaos among Democrats. It's something that they do and they've perfected their method since Richard Nixon's time. It takes a strong and united Democratic Party to defeat them.

Anon at 8:14 am. Most Democrats approached this primary season with open minds. But we knew that we would support whichever candidate emerged as the most likely to be able to defeat the Klown Kar occupant chosen by the GOP.

Sad to say but Bernie Sanders lost me a couple of months ago 1) because so many of his proposals have nothing to back them up, and 2) because his credentials seem very thin on foreign policy, the environment, and issues that concern minorities and women, and 3) because he became a terribly "sore loser." He displays that flaw whenever he whines and complains about the rules that he should have known well before entering the race in the first place. Bernie Sanders has been a great disappointment to this lifelong liberal Democrat.

And, yes, at this point, it is certainly true that Hillary Clinton has earned her success in this primary season. She has not attacked the Democratic Party; she has consistently been supportive of Democratic candidates running in downstream elections; she has clear positions on issues that mean a lot to all Americans, she has foreign policy credibility, and she has not whined and cried "fraud" whenever something did not go her way.
