Just in case you still had doubts that Cornel West was an ungrateful POS, wonder no longer.

Courtesy of Forward:

Cornel West, whose appointment by Bernie Sanders to the Democratic Party platform drafting committee raised pro-Israel hackles, said he is endorsing the Green Party candidate for the presidency.

“I am supporting Jill Stein,” the philosopher wrote Thursday in The Guardian. “I have a deep love for my brother Bernie Sanders, but I disagree with him on Hillary Clinton. I don’t think she would be an ‘outstanding president’. Her militarism makes the world a less safe place.”

First African American in the history of the United States elected President, Cornel West still unsatisfied.

Helps to create the most progressive platform in the history of the Democratic party, still not satisfied.

This is why it is a waste of time to negotiate with political purists, they simply can not recognize when they have won.

Because they live for the fight, not the victory.

I think it has to do with him playing constant contrarian for the sole purpose of getting attention he couldn't otherwise secure.

I'm not so sure it is "political purity" as much as it is an ever-increasing need for attention. I fear Dr. West "jumped the shark" in terms of his constructive contributions long ago.

  3. West used to be progressive. Now he is just an angry man who claims his progressive ideology fuels his fire. I think personal animus overwhelms him.
I will never forget him being pissed at Michelle Obama because he thought she should be involved in going to prisons and doing inmate outreach instead of education for girls worldwide, health for American kids and helping military families. Interesting how he thinks he had the right to tell anyone what the hell to do. Sad 'cause he spoke at my alma mater years ago and he was amazing.

  4. Cornel West wrote that, in his youth, he admired "the sincere black militancy of Malcolm X, the defiant rage of the Black Panther Party [...] and the livid black theology of James Cone."

"West says his Christianity prevented him from joining the Black Panther Party."

Well, he seems like one of those Christians who believes that they would be doing all kinds of horrible things if they didn't have their faith. Sounds like another religious wacko to me........guess the Left has the occasional one, though in much fewer numbers, thank Odin.

There is no a role for purists in politics and in our party, they place the goal lines for what we want to achieve, even if we will never achieve it.

The position of those goal lines determines how we will negotiate and what the end result will be. For example, when we first started the push for healthcare reform, no-one thought "mandated insurance with regulations that ensure everyone is eligible". If we started from that point we'd have something far more sucky.

The purists don't achieve much directly, but they help the negotiators achieve more.

Oh, and 2:11 is right, they don't realize their role for the most part, they're typically attention who're.

The US and Britain made Israel happen by giving them lands that belonged to other people, based on some biblical bullshit.

We gave them an inch and now they are taking a mile.

It's past time for us to reign them in and cut them the fuck off from 6 billion American dollars in Israeli welfare annually.

Gryphen, don't be so harsh with Brother West!

This is very similar to my dilemma during the presidential election of 1940 when I couldn't decide between Mr. Roosevelt and Mr. Wilkie so I voted for Chancellor Hitler in order to ... hmmmm... Can't quite recall now why I did that... it sure seemed like a good idea at the time...

    Wow.

Now that I think about it, that was an epically spectacularly boneheaded decision on my part!

Hopefully it doesnt take Brother West as long to figure out the stupidity of the misguided choice he just announced!

Stock up on popcorn and watch Sanders and his followers at the DNC and at the rallies planned outside the convention. For some reason the Sanders campaign still wants to hold campaign rallies.

I guess this will be the last hurrah before Sanders goes back to Vermont and dies of anger and old age.

DON'T FORGET SANDERS' DELEGATES STILL NEEDS YOUR $27 TO GET TO THE DNC

    @#$%&¿=#÷+@%!

Bernie Sanders’ Georgia delegates get their marching orders: ‘Make yourselves heard’

“Make yourselves heard at this convention,” Dani Washburn told the group. “Do everything you can to scare the hell out of the Democratic Party. Let them know we’re here. It’s not just a personality cult that is going away overnight. We want the Democratic Party to change, but we’re not going to wait for it.”
Eric Robertson, political director of the Teamsters Local 728, said part of Washburn’s demands had already been accomplished, but more remains to be done.
“Talk about scaring the democratic establishment,” he said. “I think we already did that that. Now we have to show them why they were scared.”
Robertson said Sanders supporters in Philadelphia should continue to fight to convince the party to fully oppose the Trans-Pacific Partnership, an international trade deal that both Sanders and presumptive nominee Hillary Clinton oppose but that President Barack Obama supports.
The Democratic National Committee’s platform committee this month voted to vaguely oppose trade deals that are anti-worker but an effort make it explicit that the party opposes TPP failed. While Sanders’ side won make concessions in the platform fight, Robertson said the delegates still have a chance to do more.
“I know there’s not supposed to be a floor fight on TPP, but nobody is going to be able to tell you that once you get on that floor.”
It was not all fire and brimstone. Phil Lunney, legislative liaison for the Fulton Democrats, acknowledged that he is part of the party establishment and vowed to continue to push the party from outside the convention.

That's so funny, these delegates begging for money to attend the convention. Chances are most of them won't be able to afford it and won't even show.

What part of "being financially secure enough to afford to travel to the convention" did these people not understand prior to becoming delegates?

They certainly don't understand who gets involved in politics, that's for sure.

Hint: It's not people too poor to afford a plane ticket and a week in a hotel.

Idealists have their role (suggesting what to aim for) but to get anything done you have to be pragmatic in politics and slough your toward the better goals ... usually in small steps with setbacks and compromises. It's a slow process. Voting for someone who has no chance of winning and only has a very small group of supporters doesn't accomplish much if anything.

Trump Had To Grab Tourists Off The Street To Fill The Room For VP Announcement

The crowd for Donald Trump's VP announcement was made up of Trump family, friends, and tourists who were pulled off of the street and allowed to come in and watch.

Meanwhile poor Christie has been had

“Black Thursday,” one of Gov. Chris Christie’s least favorite local newspaper columnists called it, under a headline that declared it his “worst day ever.” At the least, it was the New Jersey governor’s terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day.

On Thursday morning, one of his closest confidants pleaded guilty to a felony charge of abusing power at the agency that Mr. Christie tapped him to lead. By that afternoon, federal prosecutors had charged a former cabinet official in connection with the same case, which spun out of the George Washington Bridge lane-closing scandal that has dogged Mr. Christie for nearly three years.

Then he did not get the job he had been publicly pining for, and on which he had pinned his hopes of political resuscitation. Donald J. Trump, who is expected to become the Republican nominee for president next week, picked someone else as his running mate, despite an endorsement that dragged Mr. Christie’s poll numbers to record lows at home and alienated him from moderate Republicans he once called friends.

And that was before a storm knocked down a tree and power line outside Mr. Christie’s house, starting a fire beside it. When a local television station asked the governor if he still had electricity, he gave a thumbs down, which might have been answering the question, or summing up the previous several hours, or months.

So true, having lived through some knock-down moments in the 1960s, it eventually became obvious some very radical people were only in for the fight. They threw a lot of people under the bus and broke up a lot of lies. Beware of somebody who says they cannot negotiate.

Personally I could care less who Cornell West votes for, however if the Bernie Bros are so adamantly against Hillary here are some ideas:

Take a trip with crazy Stein, Susan Sarandon and Cornell West to Venezuela and check out the people starving to death under socialism. Venezuela the socialist country depending on oil only with no plan b when the prices dropped.

After Trump wins, because you threw you vote away, don't complain about the conditions in the gulag.

Write in Bernie on the ballot and again don't complain about the dictatorship if Trump wins.

Any time Jill Stein's name enters a conversation, the words "publicity stunt" should be mentioned as well.

Jill's only experience as an elected official has been as a Town of Lexington (MA) Town Meeting Representative, 2005 and 2008, receiving 539 votes in 2005. That's receiving 539 votes, not "winning by a margin of." Lexington residents has 31,394 residents (compare this with local town populations when discussing her locally). When she ran for president in 2012, she received a whopping 0.36% of the votes in in the election.

Don't throw your votes away on this publicity stunt.

The larger story is how many people believed Sanders was some sort of demigod and now denounce him as a traitor for endorsing the winner. The One True Scotsman game has gone to hilarious lengths at this point.
