David Atherton, a Stoneham, Massachusetts, firefighter was shot and killed in a horrific incident late Tuesday night, CBS Boston reports.
The Middlesex District Attorney's Office said Atherton, 24, was drinking with 23-year-old Patrick O'Connor in a home and that the two were "passing a gun back and forth pointing it at each other" around 11:10 p.m.
"It appears the fatal shooting may have been an unintended consequence of this behavior," Meghan Kelly, a spokesperson for the district attorney's office, said in a statement Wednesday.
When we think of guns as tools, or worse yet toys, we simply fail to respect them for what they really are. Instruments whose sole purpose is to end life.

ReplyDeleteLooks like a good guy with a gun was
ReplyDeleteaccidentally shot and killed without a bad guy with a gun present. Wonder how the NRA spins these accidents.
It's no accident when someone dies if alcohol and/or drugs are involved with guns.
ReplyDeleteIndict the NRA for all of the mass shootings and see how fast their tune changes.
I agree with your last sentence, except I would ended it, "is to kill."
ReplyDeleteI liked this part the most.
ReplyDelete"It appears the fatal shooting may have been an unintended consequence of this behavior," Meghan Kelly, a spokesperson for the district attorney's office, said in a statement Wednesday." That there is one brilliant DA's spokesperson, she deserves a raise!
It appears that way, now let's wait for the medical examiner's report.
All kidding aside, at least they didn't drink and drive. Someone smart might have gotten hurt or killed.
