The 2nd Amendment did its thing to protect another sixteen people yesterday in Florida. Two of them permanently.

Courtesy of the Orlando Sentinel:

Police identified a 14-year-old boy and 18-year-old man as the two killed this morning in a shooting that left more than 14 others injured outside a Fort Myers nightclub.

Club Blu on Evans Avenue, a few miles south of the city's downtown area, was hosting a "Swimsuit Glow Party" for middle and high school students. The event had just wrapped up when the shooting started about 12:30 a.m.

Fort Myers police are questioning three people possibly connected to the incident. Their identities haven't been released.

Police identified the two killed as: Sean Archilles, 14, and Ste'fan Strawder, 18.

None of the other victims' names have been released.

Police said the shooting is not terrorism-related and detectives are working to determine a possible motive.

Terrorism, hate crime, revenge, crime of passion, it really doesn't matter the motive. The one thing that you can count on is that the presence of guns will dramatically increase the number of the dead and wounded, and that the NRA's solution will always be to lobby for more guns in the hands of the American people.

Nothing ever changes, and nothing ever will so long as we keep ignoring the real problem.

And no that problem is not terrorism, mental illness, or too few guns.

It will take either a mass shooting at a Republican event or one with an even greater amount of victims as Sandy Hook for anything to ever get done. That as well as getting Democrats in as many elected offices as possible.

Your remark about picking off shoppers on the Palin thread was in very poor taste, especially since you claim to support gun control.

As far as I'm concerned, anyone who bullies his/her way around with a loaded weapon is a terrorist. Terrorism by gun does not require that the perpetrator be a foreigner or someone who's adopted a foreign cause. All it requires is that innocent people be made intimidated or terrorized. I know that a lot of people disagree with me. So be it, but that's how I feel.

All that being said, who would have a "swimsuit" party for middle school and high school aged kids at a nightclub? And who would allow their kids to attend?

Nightclub for middle schoolers (age 12+) at 12:30am on a Sunday night?

I wondered that too although it still is summer time. Maybe I'm too old but I don't see letting my kids attend something like that. It is still tragic, nonetheless.

Maybe they only serve lite beer and wine coolers... Call me old-fashioned, but I'm emphatically opposed to hard liquor for 12 year olds. Almost NO exceptions, probably!!!

Totally agree-middle schoolers and high schoolers have no business being out that late, or having a group event, frankly. Middle school now is 6th grade, which means you have kids 11-18. Parents???

I bet the gun manufacturers, egged on by the NRA, is working on a tiny waterproof gun to hide in the pocket of your swim trunks. Just in case you have to stand your pool.

No, you're the moron. All the sensible ones of us want is mandatory training, background check that includes psychological exam and tightening up of sales regulations. I personally think liability insurance should be required too. If you can't do any of those, maybe you shouldn't have a gun.
