The day after Bernie Sanders endorses Hillary Clinton. Oh the humanity.

First off Bernie has now lost his Secret Service protection:

Sen. Bernie Sanders is no longer receiving Secret Service protection, a source said Tuesday.

Sanders returned to Washington after his endorsement of Hillary Clinton earlier in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The protection was dropped on arrival in Washington, according to a source familiar with the senator's schedule.

(In an interview Sanders also said he is glad he does not have to tell the Secret Service when he has to use the batchroom.)

Sanders has also started making attempts to reason with his many supporters.

Courtesy of Politico:

Sanders, speaking to ABC's George Stephanopoulos on "Good Morning America," responded that it is "absolutely imperative for the future of this country that Donald Trump not be elected president of the United States."

"And what I say in a time when this country has enormous crises, we do not and cannot have a man with Trump's temperament, with the nuclear code and running this country," Sanders said.

Stephanopoulos pressed, "So it's about the lesser of two evils?"

"No, it's not about the lesser of two evils," Sanders said.

That may be Sanders opinion, but it is clearly not one shared by many of his supporters.

A number of them seemed completely divorced from reality.

There were at least a handful or more who felt that there was still a chance.

I don't even.

Some Bernie supporters knew the jig was up even before the event which must not be named.

I can feel the sads from here.

But worry not the Bernie Sanders legacy will continue to live on.

The Top Fifteen Sanders Attacks on Clinton.

Bernie Supporters Voting Third Party Aren’t Throwing Away Their Votes – They’re Helping Elect Trump

......Bernie Sanders supporters planning to break with their own candidate and support a third party nominee aren’t throwing away their votes. They’re helping send an unfit and unhinged man to the White House.

That’s about as meaningful as it gets.

I guess we will have to wait until after election day to see how many former Bernie supporters voted for Trump, another candidate, or stayed home.

Until then, count on the media to play this up as the biggest fucking disaster the Democratic party has faced since the PUMAs packed up their shit and fled to John McCain and Sarah Palin in 2008.

    How did that work out?

At one of the caucus exit polls, 30% said if BS wasn't the nominee they were voting for Trump. Also, I read an article, but did not research- that an in-law of BS campaign manager is married to someone who is related to Karl Rove. So, I figured there was going to be dissension/misinformation and HRC bashing/outright lies. The GOP owns the media and know how to brainwash people. (Think Greta...who is a Scientologist. Media and words used to "hypnotize" people on TV when they often are in a trance state.)

  3. Oh, for heaven sakes, grow up. I respect their passion, as it's their right, but there comes a time to move on. Their candidate has. Bernie made his choice, so that needs to be respected by these young women. They don't have to like it, but if Bernie is your guy, then at least respect that he has moved on.

This is about more than Bernie or Hillary, it is about our nation's future. It's about the Supreme Court, about the encroaching fascism, about keeping an child-idiot out of office and the PNAC/neo-cons away from unleashing idiotic and unworkable 'solutions' on the middle east, China, etc.

While I'm at it, I wasn't too impressed with Bernie's endorsement yesterday. Brag, brag, brag... I can't believe I sent him money.

Sure, celebrate Sanders, but let’s also honor Clinton for her historic accomplishment

Sanders deserves praise for his campaign and movement, but so does Clinton for doing what no woman has done before

...But in all the celebrating of this man for his achievements, I request that we also celebrate the woman in the race, for doing what no woman has ever done before: Win a major party nomination to run as president.

And she beat a man to do it, fair and square.

...This matters, because the mainstream media is already embracing the narrative that Clinton’s likely win over Donald Trump in November is a fluke, the result of his unique unreadiness for office rather than due to any political skills of her own. Pundits continually harp on her high unfavorables without acknowledging that Clinton enjoys high favorables when she’s in office and only loses esteem in the public’s eyes when she runs for office, suggesting those polls have little to do with her and everything to do with the public’s discomfort with female ambition. Flaws that would be seen as minor or unremarkable in male candidates are magnified, and praise that would be offered easily to a standard male Democrat is always couched in apologetics about how Clinton is a “flawed” or “imperfect” candidate.

Sadly, it’s not surprising that many are drawn to a narrative that paints the first woman who is likely to win the presidency as a Forrest Gump character who stumbles into success, rather than as someone who earned it. It’s a spin on the right wing tendency to paint women and minorities who succeed as people coasting on “quotas” and “political correctness.”

All they are doing is promoting Donald Trump. Fucking sick of it!

Vote Hillary Clinton folks...she is able, responsible, knowledgeable, hardworking and experienced. She will be able to walk into the White House and do the job.

Donald Trump will do nothing but fuck up our country and relations with others in the world. He's a self-declared racist, with a massive ego, who speaks before he thinks about the consequences of his words and would not represent ALL Americans by an stretch of the imagination.

His government would be a dictatorship and he would silence the media (something he has said publically)!

    Let’s Grow Up, Liberals

...I voted for Senator Sanders in the New York primary in April, because I agree with him on most of the issues. I have never regretted a vote more. You can tell a lot about a candidate only in defeat, unfortunately, and what defeat says about Bernie isn’t pretty. Mr. Sanders has led an admirable life of social activism, and his record of public service is impeccable. But it is impossible for me to imagine that he possesses the temperament or the talents required to be a successful president.

    The (G.O.P.) Party’s Over

...We can survive a few years of such deadlock in Washington, but we sure can’t take another four or eight years without real decay setting in, and that explains what I’m rooting for in this fall’s elections: I hope Hillary Clinton wins all 50 states and the Democrats take the presidency, the House, the Senate and, effectively, the Supreme Court.

That is the best thing that could happen to America, at least for the next two years — that Donald Trump is not just defeated, but is crushed at the polls. That would have multiple advantages for our country.

    Bernie’s Uninspiring Endorsement

Bernie Sanders went off for a month to contemplate life after the revolution, and this was the best he could come up with? “Secretary Clinton has won the Democratic nominating process, and I congratulate her for that.”

So said Sanders at a rally in New Hampshire on Tuesday, where he appeared on stage with Hillary Clinton as an ally for the first time. As big events go, it felt pretty small, with Sanders waving his arms around and offering up his usual list of shouted slogans.

Sanders avoided subjects like war and foreign affairs, since he and Clinton disagree violently on those things. He harped on his successes, which was understandable, but it was passing strange when he claimed that he and his backers “showed the world that we could run a successful national campaign based on small individual contributions.”

Yes, if you define successful as losing.

Clinton — who actually wrapped up the nomination more than a month ago — stood next to him looking uncomfortable, nodding endlessly like a bobblehead doll and smiling at odd, seemingly random moments.

The event was bound to be stiff, since Sanders has spent most of the year attacking Clinton as corrupt, excessively hawkish and beholden to Wall Street.

Clinton has committed no crimes with regard to her e-mails, but she has developed an unhealthy relationship with her pursuers, who surely will only redouble their efforts if she becomes President. Burned in the past, she has become excessively defensive, and harms herself more than those who long to bring her down. The next time she’s under fire—and there will be a next time—Clinton would be best advised to forget her past and act like she hasn’t seen it all before.

On June 22, I sat with Hillary Clinton on a hot day in Raleigh, North Carolina. She had just finished giving a major speech on her economic vision — she wanted "a full employment and full potential economy," she said — and I wanted to know more about what that meant and how she would achieve it.

We spoke for about 40 minutes (you can read my longer thoughts on our conversation, and what I learned about Hillary Clinton, here). My hope in this conversation was to draw out the deeper theories animating Clinton’s agenda. But I think it’s worth reading the transcript (lightly edited, below) or watching the full video of our discussion yourself. It will give you a sense of how Clinton thinks, how she reasons, how she works through policy questions. We so often experience Clinton chopped down to a sound bite on the nightly news, or confined to a 30-second answer in a debate, that it’s a surprisingly different experience — or at least it was for me — to watch her when she has more space.

Megachurch pastor Robert Jeffress would vote for Trump over Jesus: The Bible calls for a ‘strongman’

...The conservative pastor said earlier this week that police officers are “ministers of God sent by God to punish evil doers” — which is what he said the Bible calls for in a president.

“Government is to be a strongman to protect its citizens against evildoers. When I’m looking for somebody who’s going to deal with ISIS and exterminate ISIS, I don’t care about that candidate’s tone or vocabulary, I want the meanest, toughest, son of a you-know-what I can find — and I believe that’s biblical.”

I cannot imagine being in Hillary's shoes right now. I'm one that likes and has always supported her.

I detest the constant negative the media has continually thrown out against her since the primary began and even before!

Why are the Republicans so afraid of her? Remember, the wealthy (majority) are the Republicans and they (majority) own the networks, newspapers, TV channels, etc.

Donald Trump is the very worst type of candidate than what is needed in these particular times for America.

Hillary Clinton IS needed as our next POTUS because of her knowledge, dedication, hard work, calmness, sanity and experience.

Trump is a dictator and will govern as did Hitler. He'll silence and/or control our media (he's already said that publically) and do harm to the minorities who are our fellow Americans. (Remember how he referred to them in one of his first speeches?) He'd also control religion which he also indicated in that same speech.

I don't trust Trump as far as I can throw him and he's too obese to lift!

The guy is ego driven, a maniac, pro war to include nuclear bombs (also on record for saying that!), extremely negative in thought, a liar, a fraud, anti women, says hateful things to folks when they are not in agreement with him and especially anti folks that have come out against him in his run for POTUS!

THANK YOU, Supreme Court Justice Ginsberg, who had every right to speak and voice her opinion!

Trump's behavior toward her, and his words against her, were pure juvenile rhetoric.

The episode is a great example as to what his actions would be like with leaders of other countries (were he elected POTUS) if they didn't agree with him.

Donald Trump is frightening and should NEVER be elected POTUS!

Vote for Hillary Clinton who is more than qualified to be POTUS! She has my vote!

Why Bernie Sanders Was Right to Stall Clinton Endorsement

...However, some Clinton supporters are still angry at Sanders for not quitting the race sooner, and taking his time to endorse her thereafter. I believe that much of the criticism leveled at Sanders is not only unfair, but tactically ignorant too.

Firstly, Sanders fought tooth and nail to beat Hillary Clinton in a contest that pitted a genuine political outsider with an establishment Democrat. Whether or not you supported Sanders, his criticisms of mainstream Democrats was not without warrant. Democrats have wandered ever rightwards over the past 40 years, and Sanders represented a real break with politicians that would be regarded as conservative in any other industrialized democracy. Yes, Clinton is a million times better than any of the clowns on the other side of the aisle, but she is still a corporate Democrat with extensive ties to the financial industry and insurance companies. However fanciful it was, Sanders was attempting to put a stop to the incestuous relationship corporations have with political elites, and his loss was a blow to everyone sick and tired of the same corrupt game being played over and over again.

For Sanders to take some time out after losing to Clinton is entirely understandable given he had very serious policy disagreements with her and has spent his entire career fighting for what he believes to be in the best interests of the country.

Secondly, from Hillary Clinton and the Democratic Party's point of view, it made an enormous amount of sense for Bernie to hold out on endorsing Clinton. Why? Because Sanders fanatical supporters needed a period of time to get used to the fact that not only did their candidate lose, but if they were serious about anything he stood for, they would have to suck it up and vote for Clinton in order to stop Donald Trump getting in.

While ardent Bernie Sanders fans turned the Democratic primary into an unnecessarily contentious affair with some truly despicable behavior, the reality is that Clinton needs Sanders' supporters in the general election. Given she could never win them over on her own, it would inevitably come down to Sanders to lay the groundwork for a truce. Knowing his supporters well, Sanders decided to wait until the anger had simmered down before coming out publicly for Clinton. It was simply smart politics, not sour grapes as many Clinton supporters seem to believe.

Bernie Sanders was always going to endorse Hillary Clinton for president and work with her to take down Donald Trump. Despite the narrative many on the Clinton side have chosen to buy into in recent months,

One thing I've noticed on social media is that the Bernie or Busters are overwhelmingly very young or very uninformed. Their beliefs about Bernie are often based on lack of experience. For example, when Bernie endorsed Hillary yesterday, I saw tons of comments, tweets, and posts of extremely childish outrage. These hardcore Berners genuinely believe that if they donate to a candidate, that person has to do exactly what they want. The whining is laughable and infuriating.
    BUT DON'T WORRY.
Because Berners are by and large very young and/or crazy shut-ins, they are super active on social media. This has created the impression that there are tens of millions of them who will vote for Stein, Trump, or Johnson.

The statistical reality is that the absolute WORST case scenario, based on advanced polling and hard data, is 15% of Berners voting against Hillary.
15% of 12 million (the # of votes Bernie got in the primary) is about 1.8 million people.
That's barely 2% of the estimated 125 million voters who will show up in November.
    This means two things:
    1. Bernie was never as powerful or popular as he thought, and the internet was just an echo chamber of Bernie Bros.
    2. Bernie or Busters are a small fringe group who will make a lot of noise but no real impact. Their only potential to fuck things up is in swing states.

Thus, unless you live in Ohio or Florida, just VOTE, tell your sane friends to VOTE, and chill out. Hillary's got this.

      "Hillary's got this."
Those three words embody everything that's wrong with the Clinton campaign and illustrates the stark contrast between her campaign and Sanders' campaign:

Her. It's all about her. She's got it. Give it to her. She's our Mommy gonna fix it.

On the other hand Bernie is "Not me. Us." His campaign was all about regular people standing up as one and solving problems. It was We. Not him. Many here mocked his saying We as the royal We, but it wasn't. He meant all of Us.

When Clinton speaks, I feel like I'm getting a lecture on cleaning my plate. When Bernie speaks, I feel like I'm getting a pep talk to stand up and try to make a better country.

Before you get on your high horses condescending about being young or 'new' to polictics, I'm 50+ and I think the Democratic party has missed a once in a lifetime opportunity. At a time when the country is anti-establishment, the Democratic party stands ready to nominate the ultimate establishment candidate who can't get out of her own way.

Bernie is "Us" and "We". Those of you who claim otherwise are just revealing that you never listened to him.

    Bernie Sanders' Long Goodbye

He left his mark on the party. He won't let you forget that.

...This should have surprised approximately nobody. Bernie Sanders is a politician. He has been running for one office or another for four decades. He believes he shaped the Democratic Party in this election, and he did. He would like to continue to shape the country on the issues for which he has devoted his career. He knows that the best way to do that is from a seat in a Senate with a Democratic majority, and not in some noble, doomed unicorn hunt through the wilderness of third parties.

And it says more than a little about HRC that she allowed Sanders to take this extended victory lap in his speech prior to endorsing her formally, and that she and her campaign allowed a vigorous debate to take place over the platform. It was both personally classy and politically shrewd—especially since she had to know that the various phrenologists and seers in the campaign press corps were going to divine every blink of an eye on the podium for some hidden conflict or deeper meaning. She was also very gracious in her remarks toward his supporters, some of whom walked out in protest before she began.

"allowed" Puhleeze. Clinton knows she needs all 13 million Sanders voters. See how close the polls are in OH, PA, FL? Surely Clinton's internal polls have been showing this for a month.

Clinton doesn't need either PA or FL, because she was never counting on them.

In the Lair of the Bernie Holdouts

Sanders’ hard-core supporters aren’t surrendering. They’re building new hideouts online.

Once Bernie released his tax returns, it told me what kind of man he was. Oh wait, he DIDN'T release his tax returns? Nevermind. It's going to take some time for the bern to subside, obviously Bernie sees something of value in Candidate Hillary, or he wouldn't have endorsed her. I'm sure Bernie nor Jane will write a book or make money off the campaign on principle only. Hillary made money off of speeches, she's the only one who does it, but it's not the same as holding back your tax information while running for office.

Bernie Sanders pulled a fast one over America. He is a liar.

Sanders was going to release his taxes but then asked for an extension whose date was after the Democratic National Convention.

Sanders knew he was not going to be the Democratic nominee so requesting an extension was to buy time and avoid turning in his taxes.

    Internet:
This one’s odd. We have only one year of Bernie’s returns, tax year 2014, and even that return is in the Cruz-and-Kasich school of partial disclosure, with just the first few pages made public. As for the rest of the forms, Bernie claims “there ain’t going to be very much exciting” in them, a statement that may dampen interest among tax-return thrill seekers but fails to satisfy the rest of us. Yesterday, when debating Hillary Clinton, Bernie said that his full 2014 tax returns would be released today and that previous years would follow “shortly.” This may be true, or may not. Earlier this month, Sanders told Jake Tapper that he has released tax records from previous years, which sounded perfectly fine, except it wasn’t true. Jane Sanders, who supposedly prepares the taxes, says the main obstacle to releasing them is that she hasn’t been home in a while, which might be an understandable obstacle prior to the dawn of the Intertubes. So, as of this moment, what we know is that Bernie Sanders and his wife took in about $205,000 in 2014, most of it from Bernie’s Senate salary, and took $56,377 in itemized deductions. We don’t know numbers from other years, and we don’t know what Sanders is hiding. Again, the speculation has begun: that he doesn’t donate to charity, or that he donates to communists, and so on. But it’s odd. By Washington standards, Sanders is church-mouse poor, which only works in his favor. So what is he trying to hide? What? What? The secrecy is mysterious, yet also uninteresting. It’s like an Antonioni movie.

So with Donald Trump's campaign in complete disarray, with no money in the bank, no advertising, he's pulled into a tie with Hillary who has a well-oiled machine and is spending $500,000 a week with $40 million in the bank. Interesting. She's going to lose because people can't stand her and with good reason. Bernie dropped out too early. In a month, she'll be down 10 points, Trump will be elected and it's all the fault of conventional wisdom-spouting, status-quo-loving dimwits like the people who comment on this site. Nice work. America thanks you as we'll watch the rise of the 4th fucking reich.

It will be that old basta's fault if the Democrats lose to Trump.

    1. Sanders created a lot of hate towards Hillary which projected onto his followers.

    2. Trump and the Republican Party will use the rhetoric and hate speeches Sanders used against Hillary.

In regards to the "Don't leave yet" poster, FDR did no such thing. FDR had a solid lead in the 1932 Primaries, but needed a two-thirds majority vote to win the Democratic Presidential Nomination, which he didn't get in the first three ballots, during the 1932 DNC.

To ensure victory on the fourth ballot FDR's campaign managers, James Farley and Louis McHenry Howe, approached one of his stronger opponents, John Nance Garner, Speaker of the House at the time, who had no chance in hell to win himself, and promised him to be named running mate, if he dropped out of the race and endorsed FDR instead.

The deal was sealed, John Nance Garner dropped out, endorsed Roosevelt and the additional votes from his camp swung the vote in FDR's favour.

FDR himself never endorsed anybody but Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
