These guys are just nonchalantly walking around the streets outside of the Republican convention.

Courtesy of Salon:

A dozen armed white men marched around outside the Republican National Convention in downtown Cleveland on Monday afternoon.

Salon spoke with the men, who call themselves the West Ohio Minutemen.

Tim Alexander, 32, identified the group as a right-wing “militia,” and said they are from Mercer County, Ohio.

“We’re tired of the way the country’s going,” Alexander explained.

He condemned “the over-reaching government.” When asked what he meant by that, Alexander claimed that the U.S. government is using mass shootings to impose harsh gun control measures — although none have yet been passed.

Alexander said he opposes all gun laws.

When asked what they do, they claimed that they "help people," and apparently they do so with the AR-15's, AK-47's and G3 assault rifles strapped to their chests.

How we have reached day three of this convention without anybody being shot or killed, is beyond me.

But if I had to guess I would attribute that to the incredible police presence.

The police even managed to rescue Alex Jones after he attempted to create a conflict with the other protesters and almost got his ass kicked.

Personally I might have actually allowed that to happen.

Guess that's why I'm not a cop.

My agenda, 12:07? I am a law abiding 60 year old white. I just watched a black man get shot at point blank range with a gun in his pocket and two police men on him. I just saw a video of a dying black man, who tried to produce his with a gun drawn on him. My agenda is equality and civility. What is your agenda and why are you even posting on IM? 12:22 you are aware that more white people are killed by police every year than black people are you not? You know that right, more white people killed by police yearly?

And if you return argument is that there are fewer black people (as is always the retort)... then let us visit the violent crime and murder statistics by race, and understand why the black population as a whole (not as individuals mind you) has so many interactions with police that end badly for everyone, whether justified or in error.

Go ahead call me a racist, but numbers aren't racist.

While it is true that more white people are shot by cops than black people, that number is meaningless because THERE ARE FAR MORE WHITE PEOPLE IN THE COUNTRY THAN BLACK PEOPLE.

In case you don't understand the concept of ratios, read on:

      -- quote

In 2015, The Washington Post launched a real-time database to track fatal police shootings, and the project continues this year. As of Sunday, 1,502 people have been shot and killed by on-duty police officers since Jan. 1, 2015. Of them, 732 were white, and 381 were black (and 382 were of another or unknown race).

But as data scientists and policing experts often note, comparing how many or how often white people are killed by police to how many or how often black people are killed by the police is statistically dubious unless you first adjust for population.

According to the most recent census data, there are nearly 160 million more white people in America than there are black people. White people make up roughly 62 percent of the U.S. population but only about 49 percent of those who are killed by police officers. African Americans, however, account for 24 percent of those fatally shot and killed by the police despite being just 13 percent of the U.S. population. As The Post noted in a new analysis published last week, that means black Americans are 2.5 times as likely as white Americans to be shot and killed by police officers.

U.S. police officers have shot and killed the exact same number of unarmed white people as they have unarmed black people: 50 each. But because the white population is approximately five times larger than the black population, that means unarmed black Americans were five times as likely as unarmed white Americans to be shot and killed by a police officer.

Police have shot and killed a young black man (ages 18 to 29) — such as Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo. —175 times since January 2015; 24 of them were unarmed. Over that same period, police have shot and killed 172 young white men, 18 of whom were unarmed. Once again, while in raw numbers there were similar totals of white and black victims, blacks were killed at rates disproportionate to their percentage of the U.S. population. Of all of the unarmed people shot and killed by police in 2015, 40 percent of them were black men, even though black men make up just 6 percent of the nation’s population.

And, when considering shootings confined within a single race, a black person shot and killed by police is more likely to have been unarmed than a white person. About 13 percent of all black people who have been fatally shot by police since January 2015 were unarmed, compared with 7 percent of all white people.

      -- end quote

So you fell into the same old rabbit hole I said you would redneck. How dumb.

How is this for a ratio?

"According to the US Department of Justice, blacks accounted for 52.5% of homicide offenders from 1980 to 2008, with whites 45.3% and "Other" 2.2%. The offending rate for blacks was almost 8 times higher than whites, and the victim rate 6 times higher. Most homicides were intraracial, with 84% of white victims killed by whites, and 93% of black victims killed by blacks"

      8 times higher! 8 Times!

      And that is just homicide.

      Do YOU understand ratios redneck?

    15. Anonymous2:59 PM

OMG! We need a SMARTER FuCKiNG troll instead of Assclown! Shit-for-brains, that is based on raw data. It isn't per capita, and therefore is basically meaningless you dumb maroon.

      Delete
    16. Anonymous3:23 PM

Well based on numbers, Redneck says that black people are 5 times more likely to be killed by police. Yet if you look at even just homicide, the black population is 8 times more likely to commit homicide than the white population.

Seems like the black criminals are getting off easier than the white criminals if you equalize the numbers.

We are talking ratios now, 2:59 you dumbass, since redneck was dumb enough to go there.

Shall we also look at the ratio of other violent crimes, maybe the ratios of robbery and theft too? Population vs numbers...

You probably won't like the results. Just sayin'.

      Delete
    17. Anonymous3:23 PM

It's true that more white people than black people are killed by police every year. However, when adjusted for the population difference - whites are 62% of the population and blacks are 13% - the rate at which blacks are killed by police is disproportionately higher. We have a problem in this country with black people experiencing the criminal justice system, from encounter with police through imprisonment, in a disproportionately more negative way than white people. People who deny this have their heads in the sand.

      Delete
    18. Anonymous3:28 PM

And the why behind the numbers? A group of people with a skin color different from the ruling class that are oppressed for years, more in poverty and uneducated. Not as many have mothers like Sarah Palin who has a corrupt legal system to get her children out of any legal issues no matter how serious their crimes.

      Nothing skews those numbers?

Sure white on white crime is prolific. That does not change the systemic social and legal injustices that have ruled for so long. Obviously there are many fear fueled scared white men, they didn't just appear one day. They come from a long line of fearful people. Some of the ones that are heavy into religion are the most scared, that religion doesn't work for them.

The majority of the people in Buffalo, Syracuse and the Tri-city area will vote Democratic. The other small communities of Repubs will be greatly outnumbered at the polls. Thats funny. If you take a look at all the problems that have occurred around politically and socially charged gatherings of people, all the violence, lootings, riots, shootings, shootings of police, killing of police... all that... has pretty much been circling around all the BLM events. The open carry folks, like you see above, strange as they may seem, for the most part haven't experienced nearly the same level of problems. Although it seems like you really want them too.

(Higbee's used to be right there too--if you remember the scene at the beginning of A Christmas Story where the family's looking in animated Xmas windows, that's Higbee's). The Terminal Tower is where the rapid transit drops you off at Euclid Ave. It's also access to The Q and is the only reason why you're seeing so many white people and these gun idiots. It may look like whiteyville in the pic, but this is downtown and normally a group of white assholes with guns is the last thing you'd see. An award-winning journalist working for the online investigative website Ukrayinska Pravda was killed by a car bomb in central Kiev early on Wednesday morning, in what President Petro Poroshenko said was an attempt to destabilize Ukraine.

Where I grew up car bombs were the way gangsters did it. They also did Bonnie and Clyde styled shot gun riddled cars. We saw one once walking to school in the morning before it was hauled off. It was a nice neighborhood, too. Gangsters weren't all poor.

Don't forget John McCain's friends in Az.

I'm from Ohio. Mercer is a little rural county n the west side of Ohio, on parallel with Marion Indiana. Anecdotally, Marion is a bastion of the midwest KKK.

Ohio is an odd mix. Cleveland is blue and liberal. Columbus and Dayton are stereotypical midwest Ohio cities. Cincinnati, where we are, is an older city on the verge of a renaissance; we have millenials brewing beer, suburbanites riding bikes to work, and crusty old folks lamenting the end of the world through the evil medium of tattoos. Even in our urban areas, you have folks coming in from rural areas (see photo) trying out their personal version of home-grown militia, and almost always getting the side-eye or moms pulling their kids out of the way. It is not usual to see dudes with guns - it's more usual to see dudes with big trucks and a million nasty slogan stickers celebrating their guns and white supremacy. The guys in the picture are not the norm here.

Had these gun maniacs been African American, they would have been shot to death before anyone even asked to see their identification.

Which leads me to a similar story. Last week in a small northwest MI tourist village, a man was seen walking down the main street (St. Joseph Street) with a canvas bag over his shoulder and an AR-15 cradled in his arms. {That's the kind of weapon used to kill the policemen in Dallas.} Some 30 people were concerned enough to call 911. When a sheriff deputy finally stopped the man, walking down the highway to the next small town, the deputy deemed him to be harmless. A few minutes of conversation led the deputy to conclude that he was just a man who was annoyed that he had lost his driver's license and was carrying his weapon because the world around him is so unsafe. The deputy said that the man was only trying to get some attention, just like someone who dyes their hair pink or blue, literally the comparison made by the deputy. Well, all of the people who have gunned down groups of people over the past few years have been annoyed, frightened of the world as it is now, angry and in need of attention. This guy could well have been taking a "dry run" for all anyone knows; last week with an unloaded weapon, who knows next time. Had the man been Hispanic or African American I am absolutely sure that the whole scene would have ended differently - and tragically. Personally I think the man should have been escorted back to the county police station and talked to at length, just as I think these dangerous clowns should be escorted to the nearest police station in Cleveland. These gun nuts all need to understand that their swaggering intimidates citizens simply going about their lawful business; they are obstructing other people's basic rights. And they are making the work of the police a thousand times more difficult.

Interesting that the black demonstrators open carrying in Dallas during the tragic BLM march did not get shot beaglemom. You are so sure that happens. They were there marching and open carrying and they did not get shot. You are so sure though.

How did they not get shot beaglemom? Was there a mistake?

Troll @3:27, they eyes of the world and the media were present for the demonstration in Dallas. I am sure that all agencies were told to avoid using deadly force.

You can personally think whatever you want but in open carry states like Michigan and Ohio, it would be illegal for the police to detain someone for open carrying a firearm they legally own and when they aren't doing anything illegal. They can't even tell the person to take the gun home. While the Cleveland police probably checked out those guys and kept an eye on them, what they're doing is perfectly legal in Ohio. No officer's going to "escort" them into a police station. Arguing they're obstructing people rights would fall on deaf ears in Ohio because by Ohio law the rifle guys are simply going about their lawful business, too.

Anon at 4:16 pm. What concerned me the most about the man stopped by the sheriff deputy in the village close to us is the description of why the man felt he needed to do what he was doing. It fit the profile of just about every madman who has gone on a killing spree in this country over the past decade or so. Anger, unreasonable fear and need for attention. I was also quite alarmed at the absurd comparison made by the deputy. This man no way fitted the profile of someone who dyes their hair pink or blue. These folks are making a statement, true, but not one that could have lethal effects. Remember that 30 people on the street were alarmed enough that they phoned 911.

Dog whistles. But, not DOG/dog whistles. These are the kind that alert other traitorous scum to arm themselves.

I live in Ohio and I don't mind open carry. When I see it it's almost always a handgun. Frankly, I like being able to see that someone has a gun instead of being concealed in a purse or under a jacket. Don't be naive about how many people around you have concealed weapons when you're out and about in the world no matter where you live in the US.

The guys carrying the AR's in Cleveland look silly, but at least they have them on straps, they're not carrying them loose. AR stands for Armalite Rifle not Assault Rifle.

But there's a part of this story that's been overshadowed by the shocking nature of what Al Baldasaro said. That's the response from the Trump campaign. In response to Baldasaro's attack, Trump Campaign spokeswoman Hope Hicks said: "We’re incredibly grateful for his support, but we don’t agree with his comments."
I'm not sure why no one has referenced this. But this is the kind of statement one usually hears about a policy disagreement rather than a demand to murder the opposing party's nominee.
Calls for violence or the killing of a political opponent usually spurs the other candidate to totally disavow the person in question.

I had the "honor" of dealing with guys like those armed in the photo above, fortunately I'll be retiring in less than a year and it'll be someone else's problem. I live in a state that doesn't have open carry laws, I can't count how many times I've had to ask someone to secure their weapons in their trunks or glove compartment. There are days when I walk in, and my boss leaves a note "Fire so and so" I'm at the point where I'm going to either get an ulcer or get killed, but in all honesty, a lot of these guys are just harmless depending on your reaction and style. I always make sure we're not alone, and make sure that it's about work performance. I've worked for the same company since I was in college way back in the mid seventies. I don't like the way things are going with the kkk and rampant racism and killing. This company has offices in many major cities coast to coast and overseas. So far, the only weapon I've used is a cell phone.
