Trump campaign demands an apology after Hillary Clinton refers to their supporters as a "basket of deplorables." Oh, I was just calling them a "flock of assholes." Update!

Courtesy of Politico:

Donald Trump’s campaign is demanding an apology for comments Hillary Clinton made at a fundraising event in New York City, where she said half of his supporters belonged in a “basket of deplorables” -- “the racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic -- you name it.“

Clinton’s comments came as she urged the crowd of donors not to “get complacent” after seeing “the latest outrageous, offensive, inappropriate comment” from Trump and assume, “Well, he's done this time.”

“You know,” she said, “to just be grossly generalistic, you could put half of Trump's supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables.”

“Right?” she said as the crowd laughed and applauded.

“The racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic -- you name it,” Clinton continued. “And unfortunately there are people like that. And he has lifted them up. He has given voice to their websites that used to only have 11,000 people -- now have 11 million. He tweets and retweets their offensive, hateful, mean-spirited rhetoric.”

Some are referring to this statement as Hillary's 47 percent moment, after the famous comments made by Mitt Romney during the 2012 election, but that is just bullshit. Not to mention wishful thinking on the part of the Trump campaign.

Instead of painting all Republicans with the same broad brush strokes Hillary is trying to cut the non-crazies from the herd and convince them to vote for her, or at the very least NOT vote for Donald Trump.
No, it won't.

Let's face it the racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic voting block is NEVER going to vote for her no mater what she says or does, so she is simply attempting to draw a bright line between that part of he GOP base, and the part who are simply habitual Republican voters.

And it's working.

So is she going to apologize?

Fuck no!

Update: Well crap she kind of did apologize. Well kinda.
Personally I would have let the statements stand, since we all know that most Americans likely to vote for Hillary agree with them 100%.

Update 2: And this is WHY she should not have even KINDA apologized:
Because she's fucking right.

Yeah this will cost her the election just like Obama's "bitter clingers" comment cost him his two elections.

"Let's face it the racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic voting block" is only about 40 to 60% likely to vote AT ALL.
    WE vote, WE win!
    It's that simple.

I am a fifty-something white female living in Texas. The idea that discrimination against whites or Christians AT ALL is absolutely preposterous! What a joke! These people are projecting so much it is laughable, except that it really isn't funny.

We must vote this November as though every state is as red as the Deep South traditionally has been. Our future and those of younger generations depend on it. We cannot let these cretins take us back to the 1950s!

She should absolutely stand her ground and maybe even double down. She is telling the truth which is verifiable by the many proud racists and white supremacists (not to mention Soviet thugs) who openly follow Trump. No need to try to be diplomatic about THAT.

They may never vote for her, but nevertheless, she broke the cardinal rule of politics: don't insult your constituency. And Hillary should stay out of the mud/gutter. Stay on the high ground touting why she'd make a good president and leave it to her surrogates to duke it out in the trenches.

What makes this Romney-47%-esques is she said it at yet another high dollar admission fundraiser (admission/donation ranged from $1200 to $250,000). It leaves the aroma of elitism and disdain for the common folk and that there are comments reserved for bigger donors. Time will tell if this hurts her, but I think this was at least a Taco Truck moment that we'll hear about as long as she's around.

He instead blacks by indicating that ALL of them live in poor neighborhoods, are uneducated, and have no jobs. Was that OK? He's had huge fundraisers too, hon. He has huge donors who want something back, just as he expects when he donates to the Attorneys General while there are investigations with his name on the front.
This will not hurt her. They are morons and fools, and too dumb to see the con.

Nope it's not Romneyesque at all. Romney's sin was the bitter irony of hiding his tax returns that showed he was hiding his money from the IRS while criticizing people so poor they don't have to pay income tax.

No, Hillary's comment is way different from Romney's. He was referring to low income families and minorities. She is referring to the White hate groups, and basically the whole Republican party. We know who she is referring to, and we knew who Romney was referring to also. It's again that whole double standard thing that they use with Hillary. You know, they do something, and then call it a bid from God himself, she does something and they cry foul. We've been watching this for over thirty years now. They even got her for wearing a headband, and not staying home to bake cookies. They are gunnin' for Hillary and the boys are in a total state of panic. Trump's campaign demanded an apology for offending the racist ones that support him.

Hillary did apologize, before they demanded one, to the decent folks who she may have offended.

New York (CNN) Hillary Clinton expressed "regret" Saturday for comments in which she said "half" of Donald Trump's supporters are "deplorables," meaning people who are racist, sexist, homophobic or xenophobic.

"Last night I was 'grossly generalistic,' and that's never a good idea. I regret saying 'half' -- that was wrong," Clinton

As much as I'm for Hillary, I cringed when I heard the "half" comment today--I couldn't believe she'd said that one word to get herself in such a jam.

Well, what she needs to do now is not back down and use the rest of her words, and repeat them, to make it clear--really push it--that, yeah, Trump has been appealing to the "alt right"--she hasn't been using the term enough since it made it was used so effectively a couple weeks ago-- and all the "-isms" for over a year now, AND she should use the fact that his rally people have chanted "Kill her!"

All she needs to do is to keep listing some of who has supported him and how he's allowed horrible things to be said, including that "Kill her!" chant.

Do you think she actually said that without KNOWING that she was correct? There's plenty of polling to show that,m in fact, she UNDERestimated the percentage of Trump supporters who hate the OTHER, who are racist to the nth degree, who believe Obama is a Muslim AND born in Kenya etc. etc. There's plenty of proof and if she needs to use it, she will. And she should, IMHO. There are several Repubs who do NOT want to be associated with those people in any way, shape or form.

If people can't handle the truth then that is their problem. When our nation is so close to being taken over by a nazi faction then HRC has to come on strong against that group of dumpsters.

Clearly, the double standard shows up again. Drumpf has some followers who say that slavery was the best era for the African-Americans and there is a huge neo-nazi membership in Drumpf's, advisers, mentors and followers. Just the thuggery displayed at the rallies by attendees, and the dipshit nominee himself, should turn off all true Americans.

Maybe the people who need to be deported are those Drumpf followers who are clearly not real Americans and show hatred for Jews and all others, except alt-right white supremacists.

A rise in nazi-ism - can you say Confederate flag supporters? - is the last thing any nation in the world needs!

Drumpf is at Schafly's funeral today and will speak - did he too agree to refrain from televising this weekend since it is the anniversary of 9-11? Never forget Phyllis Schafly fought every woman's right that came before the legislators during her lifetime. She killed the ERA (Equal Rights Amendment for women) that will never get heard from again. Now her second book supporting Drumpf, out, the day after she died. Sheesh - what a piece of ugly shit she was, fighting to keep women pregnant and barefoot while creating the most hateful, full-time political, money-maker for herself while her husband quit his job to run the home. Hypocrite to the max while trying to deny all the rest of us what she was reaping.
Go HRC - keep us on an even keel and away from the war-hungry rwnj's.

"The data is incontrovertible. The evidence is abundant. The truth is plain to see. Virtually every single one of those numbers reveals a healthy majority of Trump supporters espousing one form of prejudice or another — all of which means that Hillary Clinton was not wrong in characterizing half of Trump’s faithful as unrepentantly bigoted. If anything, the numbers say she may have been a tad too nice.

Regardless of what the pundits and her opponents may say, this was not a gaffe. This was not Hillary Clinton’s “47 percent” moment. It was simply some stone-cold truth-telling — because the numbers certainly don’t lie."

She didn't say Americans. She didn't say voters. She said Trump supporters.

Not only was she right, she underestimated the number of his supporters that are deplorable.
