Polls show a close race in Alaska? In Alaska? Oh....My...God!

Okay first off as all of you know this has been a fantasy of mine since......let's go with forever.

Internally Alaska is not as blood red as our presidential voting shows us to be, we elect plenty of Democrats in local elections, and yet every year since 1964 we always vote GOP.

But this year, but this year, but this year....I cannot even bring myself to say it.

However I do want to say that if you are one of the many, many Bernie Sanders supporters here in Alaska that came out to caucus in the primaries, and you want to show your strength to the political power structures here in the state, in order to take a more active role in choosing which direction we take next, coming out in numbers large enough to make the state go blue this election cycle would give you the kind credibility as a group that would be impossible to ignore.

I'm just saying.

By the way it is still really not that close up here, as of right now according to Five Thirty Eight, the projection suggests a 66.6% chance for Trump and only 33.2% chance for Hillary.

However at least one recent poll shows them in virtual tie.

Is anybody else's heart beating super fast right now? Or is that just me?

  1. That would be just peachy. Maybe a sky fairy god is shutting more doors in Sarah's face.
    Let's go with---forever.

  2. Anonymous8:41 AM

I live in Palmer, and the hatred is strong against Democrats here. Even worse in Wasilla. Alaska aint never going blue.

    1. Anonymous9:01 AM

Yes, but the valley is one area.

While I think Alaska is probably more independent/blue than anything, since most Alaskans hate what govt does to their state, I would wager a small amount on even Sarah voting for Hillary. She voted against Parnell, though he was the worst of the worst. Sarah's pretty left leaning in many things. Though her convictions are good. She is open-minded and values certain amounts of progressive policies if they are done with respect to the taxpayers and budgets.

    2. Anonymous9:17 AM

@8:41 are you one Todd's bitches with nothing to do?

    3. Anonymous9:44 AM

Are you surprised Wasilla, Alaska is full of hateful residents, 8:41 AM? JHC! That is the land of Saran Palin and Christians. (Who history is continuing to show they hate vs love and are extremely judgmental!)

It's been like that for at least ten years of which Alaskans became aware when Sarah Palin appeared on the national scene.

Thank god she and McCain lost, she quit as Alaska gov, and is now a 'nobody' w/very little influence anywhere!

That area of central Alaska has had more folks move into it - that are not Republicans or Christians. I have friends and family members there that are Independents and Democrats, have no religion and don't support a church in that area.

Alaska will turn blue - slowly but surely!

    4. Anonymous9:46 AM

However at least one recent poll shows them in virtual tie

Can't we thank Sarah Palin for the good news?

Palmer and Wasilla are dumps that no one cares about. We expect them to stay stupid and ugly with the Palins.

    5. Anonymous10:25 AM

@9:17 Pay attention, stay on topic. Don't be blinded by your hatred for Sarah and Todd.

    6. Anonymous10:31 AM

The beauty of the Valley at this point in time is that housing is becoming unaffordable for all but the upper middle class so the rabble is moving on up the road to Houston and Willow and points beyond; they've been successfully priced out of this area, leaving the rest of us to breathe a sigh of relief!

    7. Anonymous10:40 AM

I work in Palmer and find many more progressive, like-minded people here than I do in Wasilla. Palmer is the home to "Radio Free Palmer" a liberal bastion, art galleries, book stores and dining establishments that are run by progressives. Hell, Palmer is the home to Howard Bess, the minister that has made it his mission to support gays.

We have art walks each month, a community harvest garden, all-year farmer's markets and the only visitor center in the area.

I don't mean to get all "chamber of commerce" on you but you'd have to be blind to not notice the strong progressive influence in Palmer. Even though our city government is majority conservative, the community-driven forces are predominantly blue. They, working hand in hand with city government, have kept Palmer unique and have grown the city center, supporting small business over box stores and maintaining the small-town charm rather than unfettered growth sprawling along the highway as in Wasilla.

    8. Anonymous11:33 AM

Thanks for your input, 10:40 am. Palmer has always impress me for many of the reasons you mention and more - (love the Russian Tea cakes at Vagabond Blues!)

Wasilla is definitely a redneck, backwards, soulless boil on the Valley. Sarah Palin is, indeed, an appropriate ambassador or hate and intolerance for her ugly boxstore hood. Palmer, in contrast, is charming, reasonable and rooted. If it wasn't so damn windy, I'd move there from Anchorage - says the person who just had a giant tree come down in the big windstorm last night.

    9. Anonymous11:51 AM

Palmer is better than Wasilla by 1%.

    10. Anonymous12:09 PM

      11:51 AM:
Palmer is better than Wasilla by pretty near 100%.

    11. Anonymous12:12 PM

9:01, your fairy tale delusions are a bit heart-wrenching. Paltry Palin would NEVER vote for Hillary. You see, Hillary is taking Palin's place in history - at least that's the way Sarah sees it.

You ARE right about Sarah despising Parnell - after all, he was forced on her by the oil companies who just didn't trust her completely. Palin was a bit of a wild card to BIG Oil. She is a lot like Trump - she doesn't work off of any ideological basis.

She is for one thing and one thing only: herself.

Stupid Sarah. She just wanted to be the head cheerleader of Alaska and eventually the U.S. She didn't need to know anything; she just wanted to shake the pom pos and have people adore her.

That didn't work out, did it?

    12. Anonymous1:24 PM

9:01; the Wasilla Wendigo had no problem stealing taxpayers' money to build her hockey-rink house and fly her entire fam-damily all over the state. She had no problem stealing the clothes provided for the Wasillabillies to appear in public. How would you know who she voted for, stalker? As for Alaska hating the gov't, that may be true, but as a taker state, Uh-laaaa-kuh takes far more out of the taxpayers' money than they pay in.

    13. Anonymous2:08 PM

Palmer has always been cooler than Wasilla.

Sarah Palin only ever wanted to be Miss Alaska. She wanted to prance around doing fancy pageant walking and wave at people from a parade float and give insipid interviews about beauty queen dribble.

That gig didn't work out for her, so a news bimbo was her second choice. At least she'd be famous and everyone would look at her. Well, that didn't work out for her, either.

So she stumbled her way into politics, even though she was a vile, nasty idiot, and completely unqualified for any position requiring a brain, tact, or even common sense. But she had her 15 minutes of fame and now she's a nobody. Good deal for us. She's been ignored this election cycle and now she's history.

    14. Anonymous7:47 PM

@ 12:09PM By 100%? Only if one hasn't experienced waaay better.

  3. Anonymous9:14 AM

"Polls show a close race in Alaska? In Alaska? Oh....My...God!"

    We knew it.
Sarah Palin is making her comeback.

    Sarah Palin will be Unshackled.

    1. Anonymous12:13 PM

My sources at API (Alaska Psychiatric Institute) say Palin will only be unshackled by court order.

    2. Anonymous12:41 PM

    3. Anonymous2:58 PM

      More like UNHINGED.

  4. Anonymous9:16 AM

And this isn't all. But just this is far more than Hillary has done. I love that it's coming out that she actually had nothing to do with the kids health shit.

    1. Anonymous9:26 AM

blow it out your ass. no one who has any brains is going to click a link for trump.

    2. Anonymous12:15 PM

SHEESH! 9:16 - "kids health shit." What? Trump is now demanding pre-nup stool samples from his future 10-year old wives?

    3. Anonymous12:19 PM

9:16. And you tell me everything I need to know about your character if you use "kids health shit" to make your point for Trump. Actually, that you're even making a point for Trump tells me everything I would ever need to know about your morality.....

    4. Anonymous3:56 PM

And here's the factcheck on your email list from your crazy uncle. Yes, some of them are true or mixtures of truth and falseness - but if these individual acts (many not really kind) over 30+ years are all you got, that's really sad.

  5. Anonymous9:17 AM

There seems to be a lot of willfully ignorant people here in Interior Alaska, but I sure hope they won't vote. I would like to see our legislature get a lot Bluer than it is now!

      Spiritual? That's sarcasm right?

    4. Anonymous12:17 PM

      Trig/Dakota 2015!

    5. Anonymous1:12 PM

      Trig/Another random Palin Bastard 2020!

    6. Anonymous2:10 PM

Oh yeah. That's a winning ticket if there ever was one.

After this Trump fiasco, there likely will never be another Repub president.

  7. Anonymous9:26 AM

What has Sarah Palin done to promote Donald Trump in Alaska? She has been too busy bailing out Track and trying to keep him sober until he is exonerated from beating his baby's mama.

    1. Anonymous9:49 AM

The best thing she did for Trump is to obey him and go far away to fix her own mess. When is she going to fix it?

She can't even announce her own family value's most recent bastard.

    2. Anonymous12:18 PM

Trump told Palin to STFU! C'mon Sarah - go rogue again! Think about ALL the media coverage you'll get by trashing Trump. Look at what he did to YOU! He deserves some Paylin Payback!

  8. Anonymous9:30 AM

Alaska is turning blue like Sarah's balls.

    1. Anonymous9:35 AM

Sarah has blue balls? Somebody call Duh, he'll know what to do.

    2. Anonymous10:18 AM

What about Dr Jack Meoff? Wouldn't he be the one she'd want to handle this?

  9. Anonymous9:33 AM

I'm all for 'blue' like we once were!

Vote Republicans out of office very chance you get, Alaskans! The majority in the Alaska Legislature have been Republicans for way too long! And, they have run our state into mass debt! (RED jut like them!) Check the FACTS!

And, do NOT reelect Lisa Murkowski most especially! She hasn't done our state one bit of good because of being in staunch line w/Mitch McConnell (KY) and the 'do nothing' Congress for eight years! All the Republicans have done is oppose and obstruct President Obama and show their racism for these two terms.

Hillary Clinton is our ONLY choice for POTUS!
Trump would be a dictator and horrid for the nation and world!

    1. Anonymous10:28 AM

As big oil begins to leave the state, so too will the red-influence that they brought with them in the 1970's.

    2. Anonymous12:22 PM

Today, I signed up to help campaign for Steve Lindbeck who is running against Don Young. I donated, too.

      Wouldn't that be a coup?

This Alaskan has also donated to Ann Kirkpatrick in Arizona who is up against the man who unleashed our monster on the world - Lou Sarah - the cromagnon version of Trump.

    3. Anonymous2:13 PM

Yep, Alaska was plenty blue before the oil rednecks from TX, OK, and LA arrived. That was a huge change up here, as well as the military turning much more red after the draft ended.

    4. Anonymous3:16 PM

Alaska use to have democratic governors - years ago - it's way past time we get back to being majority blue!

The 'reds'/Republicans have spent us into oblivion by having the majority in our Legislature.

Vote Republicans out of office if they are up for reelection. Especially Lisa Murkowski who is a member of the 'do nothing' Congress!

She is a waste or our votes and money and has been for too many years!

  10. Anonymous9:57 AM

Doesn't Anchorage vote Democrat? Biggest population area.

    1. Anonymous12:26 PM

I switched from being a non-partisan to Democrat for this election. Caucused for Bernie and now backing Hillary in word and deed!

I'm a proud resident of Spenardgain - lol. A diverse hood with a growing number of former Republicans.

Want to really help Alaska be a part of the Blue Wave? Find a Democratic candidate you can support and volunteer to help get out the vote. Even just one night of calls or taking just one person to the polls WILL make a difference.

    2. Anonymous2:14 PM

Anchorage, Juneau, Homer, Denali Park ... wherever there are concentrations of educated people, there are Dem voters. Of course.

  11. Anonymous10:03 AM

I live in a very red area of south central alaska and I am not seeing any trump or clinton signs for one. I Have seen more leftover bernie signs than anything.
Most people I have asked are voting third party. mostly Johnson instead of trump.
I have a friend that has been a life long republican we dont talk politics
we dont agree, she has the intellect of palin lots of word salad?? so I was shock when she said she was voting clinton.
I am a Bernie supporter and will vote Clinton. It was so very uncool for this web site to paint all bernie supporters with a broad brush.

    1. Anonymous10:27 AM

It was really uncool of Bernie to pretend he was a Democrat to get into the debates, and them to trash the DNC for supporting a real Democrat.

    2. Anonymous12:26 PM

he Bernie supporters that I had a problem with were/are those who said they will vote for Johnson instead of Clinton. The platform of Johnson has almost ZERO overlap with what Sander supported, yet Sanders and Clinton overlapped very significantly.

    3. Anonymous3:03 PM

      Johnson is mostly attracting anti-Trumpsters.

Bernie himself said his own supporters are supporting Hillary. And he once again made the plea that others thinking of voting third party do the same.

He stumping for Clinton with Warren.

I don't know what else people want him to do?

He had every right to run, the Democrats allowed him to run on their ticket. It's not his fault he was as successful as he was. In fact, that did the Democrats a favor by shaking them out of their complacency and waking them up to issues and demographics they were largely ignoring. Now they aren't and they're doing much better. Stronger platform.

  12. My heart's beating super fast Gryphen! I'm from SC and it would mean the world to me if it went blue on Nov. 4th! I have been obsessively checking 538 and so happy to see the shade of red on SC shift from dark red to a lighter red and I check (too often) what the odds are that it might shift to blue (and sanity). I also go to the snaky electoral college diagram they have lower on the page on 538 and envision and hope that AK, Georgia, Texas (because it's YUUGE!) AND Indiana might also shift to blue. Frankly, the only thing that I can think of as sane is for all the states to shift to blue

    1. Anonymous11:22 AM

"if it went blue on Nov. 4th!"

And even better if it stayed blue until Nov 8

    2. Anonymous2:16 PM

Love the snaky chart on 538!

    3. Anonymous3:08 PM

Indiana will never turn, because, PENCE.

His state troopers are sitting on 45,000 seized voter registration cards because of suspected fraud. The fact they are mostly those of African American voters has nothing to do with voter suppression. Nothing at all. Not a bit. Nothing to see here. Just move along.

Arizona has a possibility of going blue this time. Both the Native Americans and the Mormons are against Trump. I think John McCain's latest rant about obstructing Hillary's nominees for the Supreme Court for four years isn't going to do him any favors and provides fodder to his opponent.

Utah might go purple, I.E. third party. They don't like Trump or Hillary. Their own third party candidate Evan McGillis is doing quite well. He might even beat them both, thus taking Utah out of the race, which basically means taking it away from Trump.

That is mostly what Johnson is doing. He's taking away Trump deserters.

  13. Anonymous10:27 AM

We were thrilled with this news as well and then did some research and even though our 3 Electors are required by state law to vote with the majority of registered voters, they can easily vote for whomever they wish, suffering only a $1000 penalty.

Still, regardless of what our Electors do, all 3 of whom are Republican, it would still be a win in my book if the popular vote went blue.

    Baby steps :-)

  14. Anonymous10:41 AM

Has anyone else noticed that (especially young) people with kids under 5 are basically traveling the country and world at the drop of a hat?

My work friend's daughter, who lives in Anchorage, is getting ready to move with her 3 boys under 5 to join her husband and literally live on the road out of a massive toy hauler they just bought. Right now they're just doing it for a year, but if they love it, they'll extend their adventure.

That's probably the 24th person I've seen do something like this. I understand what being under 30 is like and I fully understand Carpe Diem. My own family intimately visits 4 states a year until we've seen them all or the kids age out of wanting to. But we do this during vacations. I'm not sure I could handle yearround gypsy living with 3 kids who aren't old enough for school. Or a world excursion with toddlers for that matter.

Our culture is changing, that's for sure. I like how one here in the US feels they can do anything.

    1. Anonymous11:04 AM

It's not just the under 30 crowd. There is a very high population of people that travel 365 days a yr for work that choose to get an RV instead of moving from hotel room to hotel room. I have seen traveling nurses, oil workers, construction workers of all kinds travel with their families along. I've seen Moms and Dads home schooling on the road while the other parent works.
Traveling nurses can earn $90 an hr in California, as well has construction workers making well over the nat'l average.
It isn't a lifestyle for everyone, but it does keep families together and they can save money for the future by lowering their monthly expenses while not having to support 2 homes.
I personally, have known a few people that have kept their families on the road and then decided on a place to settle and built their new homes for cash.
While I have met a few families that just travel for a yr or so to see the country and for the travel experience, the transient population of skilled workers is climbing rapidly. Cheap monthly costs to live, many RV parks have playgrounds, pools, and even have school buses stop if there are children going off to public schools instead of being home schooled.

    2. Anonymous11:25 AM

Embrace the change. I love traveling. Of coarse it's all about the money. Gotta sit tight now but as soon as the money piles up I am on the road again.

    3. Anonymous1:11 PM

Who the fuck would be stupid enough regarding birth control to have 3 kids under 5 unless they have a full time nanny? Sounds like a stupid over-breeding christian family to me and we're full up with their type in this country.

    4. Anonymous3:11 PM

      On whose dime?

You can't make a living like that.

So, how are they supporting their extending vacation? The kids can be home schooled but someone has to pay for food and gas.

Even Bernie wants you to vote for Hillary.

    2. Anonymous12:38 PM

11:22, So you'll pout in the corner and either not vote or vote for Trump, Johnson, or Stein? All of these options help Trump. And it just proves that you know nothing about your own beliefs....there is no way that you can truly have policy opinions and turn from Bernie to anybody on the ticket but Hillary. The only thing Trump and Bernie share politically is that they both have some pretty rabid fans.

  16. Anonymous10:53 AM

LOL Hillary Clinton Might Win Sarah Palin’s Alaska

    1. Anonymous3:11 PM

Love it, love it! Most Alaskans don't think Alaska belongs to Sarah Palin.

She (nor her family members) show their faces in Alaska - in Wasilla or anywhere in south central. They know they are very disliked by the majority within the state.

Vote for Hillary Clinton and turn Alaska blue again!

  17. Anonymous10:54 AM

The bigger news is that Texas has a chance of turning blue. The central corridor, with the highest population in the state, along with El Paso, could turn Texas blue this time. It was close in the last 2 presidential elections. With the influx of more high tech in the Silicon Hills( Austin) and the more educated employees that are moving in are turning the population bluer and bluer. I think we are a nice shade of purple right now :)

    1. Yep - the polls are within the margin of error! And even though Republicans have won every statewide election for decades, the amount by which they've done so has been shrinking and shrinking....

    2. Anonymous3:18 PM

How many Mormons and Native Americans do you have?

The Mormons are turning away from the pussy grabber and the Native Americans are turning out to vote against him for his bigoted remarks against them for the last decade over Indian Casinos. Plus they don't like him referring to Elizabeth Warren as Pocahontas. Add the Latinos, Asians, Blacks and women and that is a lot of pissed off voters who may not be showing up on polls.

November 9th is going to be a big, entertaining surprise. Trump has no where near the support he thinks he does. Like his fortune and everything else, he has exaggerated this way out of proportion too.

    3. Anonymous4:15 PM

If Crooked Hillary used a private email server before, there is no telling what heinous equipment she will use in the Oval Office! Fax machines? Copy machines? Those little tape memo recorders? John McCain goes full teabag.

No supreme court appointments for Hillary!

"I promise you that we will be united against any Supreme Court nominee that Hillary Clinton, if she were president, would put up," McCain said. "I promise you. This is where we need the majority and Pat Toomey is probably as articulate and effective on the floor of the Senate as anyone I have encountered."

    1. Anonymous3:24 PM

And later he took it back.

He's not putting America first. He's not even putting his own party first. He's only putting himself first.

" Later on Monday, McCain, through a spokeswoman, reversed course on his earlier remarks about future Clinton nominees and noted he’d “vote for or against that individual based on their qualification,” according to Talking Points Memo.

The comments come amid a push by the Clinton campaign to spend aggressively in McCain’s home state, where Clinton is inching up on Trump in the polls, as well as plans for first lady Michelle Obama to visit Arizona on Thursday and do what she does best.

As for where Clinton and Trump stand on the Supreme Court, both candidates will likely be asked about it again at the third and final presidential debate on Wednesday, where Fox News’ Chris Wallace is expected to dedicate 15 minutes to the subject."

This is a sad sad sad sad sorry country and word.

I remind you that Alaskans kicked out Mark Begich to install the Alaska-hating dirty Dan Sullivan.

That's the level of their hate.

I support Mark Begich and always have. But, I find Dan Sullivan not supportable.

Go Alaska and Go Democrats. Kick the know nothing Trump to the curb where he belongs.

Uhm, Illinois is no way red. Please correct that Mr. Silver.

That isn't a Nate Silver map. It's a user generated map. It's a "what if" all of the states bordering oceans were blue.

Georgia and South Carolina are still red

Whereas Nevada, Colorado and New Mexico are blue as are Minnesota, Wisconsin, Ohio and Michigan. Even Iowa and Arizona are pale blue. Arizona tends to flop back and forth between pale pink and pale blue.

You can see the real Nate Silver map here:

He's not giving Clinton an 88% chance of winning.

343 electoral vote with 49.8% of the vote. That's conservative. I think she'll do better on election day.

It looks like Gary Johnson might be losing voters to Hillary. And Evan McMullin is up in Utah, which is a good thing. That takes Utah away from Trump.

Can't wait for the next debate. There's this elvis impersonating senile creep with trump signs on his lawn, someone, probably kids, replaced them with Hillary signs, he called the local news, who felt it wasn't worth reporting, so now he has these hand written signs which no one would stop and try to read. Something about shooting first and asking questions later.
I want Hillary by a landslide just to watch the orange cheeto meltdown, it's gonna be hoooooge folks!!

This is one of the strangest elections I've ever experienced. Trump gets free air time 24/7, and most of it lately hasn't been good. He's trying to associate what Bill did, blaming it on Hillary. The tapes on the bus are the tip of the iceberg, I just hope he has enough money to pay reparations and court fees.

Will he do the same to his wife?
      Blame her, I mean.

Not send her to defend him to Anderson Cooper.

      He's disgusting.

Don't feed the trolls!
It just goes directly to their thighs.
