Polls show a close race in Alaska? In Alaska? Oh....My...God!

Okay first off as all of you know this has been a fantasy of mine since......let's go with forever.

Internally Alaska is not as blood red as our presidential voting shows us to be, we elect plenty of Democrats in local elections, and yet every year since 1964 we always vote GOP.

But this year, but this year, but this year....I cannot even bring myself to say it.

However I do want to say that if you are one of the many, many Bernie Sanders supporters here in Alaska that came out to caucus in the primaries, and you want to show your strength to the political power structures here in the state, in order to take a more active role in choosing which direction we take next, coming out in numbers large enough to make the state go blue this election cycle would give you the kind credibility as a group that would be impossible to ignore.

I'm just saying.

By the way it is still really not that close up here, as of right now according to Five Thirty Eight, the projection suggests a 66.6% chance for Trump and only 33.2% chance for Hillary.

However at least one recent poll shows them in virtual tie.

Is anybody else's heart beating super fast right now? Or is that just me?

Yes, but the valley is one area.

While I think Alaska is probably more independent/blue than anything, since most Alaskans hate what govt does to their state, I would wager a small amount on even Sarah voting for Hillary. She voted against Parnell, though he was the worst of the worst. Sarah's pretty left leaning in many things. Though her convictions are good. She is open-minded and values certain amounts of progressive policies if they are done with respect to the taxpayers and budgets.

Are you surprised Wasilla, Alaska is full of hateful residents, 8:41 AM? JHC! That is the land of Saran Palin and Christians. (Who history is continuing to show they hate vs love and are extremely judgmental!)

It's been like that for at least ten years of which Alaskans became aware when Sarah Palin appeared on the national scene.

Thank god she and McCain lost, she quit as Alaska gov, and is now a 'nobody' w/very little influence anywhere!

That area of central Alaska has had more folks move into it - that are not Republicans or Christians. I have friends and family members there that are Independents and Democrats, have no religion and don't support a church in that area.

Alaska will turn blue - slowly but surely!

The beauty of the Valley at this point in time is that housing is becoming unaffordable for all but the upper middle class so the rabble is moving on up the road to Houston and Willow and points beyond; they've been successfully priced out of this area, leaving the rest of us to breathe a sigh of relief!

I work in Palmer and find many more progressive, like-minded people here than I do in Wasilla. Palmer is the home to "Radio Free Palmer" a liberal bastion, art galleries, book stores and dining establishments that are run by progressives. Hell, Palmer is the home to Howard Bess, the minister that has made it his mission to support gays.

We have art walks each month, a community harvest garden, all-year farmer's markets and the only visitor center in the area.

I don't mean to get all "chamber of commerce" on you but you'd have to be blind to not notice the strong progressive influence in Palmer. Even though our city government is majority conservative, the community-driven forces are predominantly blue. They, working hand in hand with city government, have kept Palmer unique and have grown the city center, supporting small business over box stores and maintaining the small-town charm rather than unfettered growth sprawling along the highway as in Wasilla.

Thanks for your input, 10:40 am. Palmer has always impress me for many of the reasons you mention and more - (love the Russian Tea cakes at Vagabond Blues!)

Wasilla is definitely a redneck, backwards, soulless boil on the Valley. Sarah Palin is, indeed, an appropriate ambassador or hate and intolerance for her ugly boxstore hood. Palmer, in contrast, is charming, reasonable and rooted. If it wasn't so damn windy, I'd move there from Anchorage - says the person who just had a giant tree come down in the big windstorm last night.

9:01, your fairy tale delusions are a bit heart-wrenching. Paltry Palin would NEVER vote for Hillary. You see, Hillary is taking Palin's place in history - at least that's the way Sarah sees it.

You ARE right about Sarah despising Parnell - after all, he was forced on her by the oil companies who just didn't trust her completely. Palin was a bit of a wild card to BIG Oil. She is a lot like Trump - she doesn't work off of any ideological basis.

She is for one thing and one thing only: herself.

Stupid Sarah. She just wanted to be the head cheerleader of Alaska and eventually the U.S. She didn't need to know anything; she just wanted to shake the pom pos and have people adore her.

That didn't work out, did it?

      Delete
    12. Anonymous1:24 PM

9:01; the Wasilla Wendigo had no problem stealing taxpayers' money to build her hockey-rink house and fly her entire fam-damily all over the state. She had no problem stealing the clothes provided for the Wasillabillies to appear in public. How would you know who she voted for, stalker? As for Alaska hating the gov't, that may be true, but as a taker state, Uh-laaaa-kuh takes far more out of the taxpayers' money than they pay in.

Palmer has always been cooler than Wasilla.

Sarah Palin only ever wanted to be Miss Alaska. She wanted to prance around doing fancy pageant walking and wave at people from a parade float and give insipid interviews about beauty queen dribble.

That gig didn't work out for her, so a news bimbo was her second choice. At least she'd be famous and everyone would look at her. Well, that didn't work out for her, either.

So she stumbled her way into politics, even though she was a vile, nasty idiot, and completely unqualified for any position requiring a brain, tact, or even common sense. But she had her 15 minutes of fame and now she's a nobody. Good deal for us. She's been ignored this election cycle and now she's history.

He stumping for Clinton with Warren.

I don't know what else people want him to do?

He had every right to run, the Democrats allowed him to run on their ticket. It's not his fault he was as successful as he was. In fact, that did the Democrats a favor by shaking them out of their complacency and waking them up to issues and demographics they were largely ignoring. Now they aren't and they're doing much better. Stronger platform.

His state troopers are sitting on 45,000 seized voter registration cards because of suspected fraud. The fact they are mostly those of African American voters has nothing to do with voter suppression. Nothing at all. Not a bit. Nothing to see here. Just move along.

Arizona has a possibility of going blue this time. Both the Native Americans and the Mormons are against Trump. I think John McCain's latest rant about obstructing Hillary's nominees for the Supreme Court for four years isn't going to do him any favors and provides fodder to his opponent.

Utah might go purple, I.E. third party. They don't like Trump or Hillary. Their own third party candidate Evan McGillis is doing quite well. He might even beat them both, thus taking Utah out of the race, which basically means taking it away from Trump.

That is mostly what Johnson is doing. He's taking away Trump deserters.

We were thrilled with this news as well and then did some research and even though our 3 Electors are required by state law to vote with the majority of registered voters, they can easily vote for whomever they wish, suffering only a $1000 penalty.

Still, regardless of what our Electors do, all 3 of whom are Republican, it would still be a win in my book if the popular vote went blue.

Has anyone else noticed that (especially young) people with kids under 5 are basically traveling the country and world at the drop of a hat?

My work friend's daughter, who lives in Anchorage, is getting ready to move with her 3 boys under 5 to join her husband and literally live on the road out of a massive toy hauler they just bought. Right now they're just doing it for a year, but if they love it, they'll extend their adventure.

That's probably the 24th person I've seen do something like this. I understand what being under 30 is like and I fully understand Carpe Diem. My own family intimately visits 4 states a year until we've seen them all or the kids age out of wanting to. But we do this during vacations. I'm not sure I could handle yearround gypsy living with 3 kids who aren't old enough for school. Or a world excursion with toddlers for that matter.

Our culture is changing, that's for sure. I like how one here in the US feels they can do anything.

It's not just the under 30 crowd. There is a very high population of people that travel 365 days a yr for work that choose to get an RV instead of moving from hotel room to hotel room. I have seen traveling nurses, oil workers, construction workers of all kinds travel with their families along. I've seen Moms and Dads home schooling on the road while the other parent works.
Traveling nurses can earn $90 an hr in California, as well has construction workers making well over the nat'l average.
It isn't a lifestyle for everyone, but it does keep families together and they can save money for the future by lowering their monthly expenses while not having to support 2 homes.
I personally, have known a few people that have kept their families on the road and then decided on a place to settle and built their new homes for cash.
While I have met a few families that just travel for a yr or so to see the country and for the travel experience, the transient population of skilled workers is climbing rapidly. Cheap monthly costs to live, many RV parks have playgrounds, pools, and even have school buses stop if there are children going off to public schools instead of being home schooled.

Vote for Hillary Clinton! She is far more qualified for the position of POTUS.

Trump is a fraud and it's being proven time and time again.

    John McCain goes full teabag.

No supreme court appointments for Hillary!

"I promise you that we will be united against any Supreme Court nominee that Hillary Clinton, if she were president, would put up," McCain said. "I promise you. This is where we need the majority and Pat Toomey is probably as articulate and effective on the floor of the Senate as anyone I have encountered."

And later he took it back.

He's not putting America first. He's not even putting his own party first. He's only putting himself first.

" Later on Monday, McCain, through a spokeswoman, reversed course on his earlier remarks about future Clinton nominees and noted he’d “vote for or against that individual based on their qualification,” according to Talking Points Memo.

The comments come amid a push by the Clinton campaign to spend aggressively in McCain’s home state, where Clinton is inching up on Trump in the polls, as well as plans for first lady Michelle Obama to visit Arizona on Thursday and do what she does best.

As for where Clinton and Trump stand on the Supreme Court, both candidates will likely be asked about it again at the third and final presidential debate on Wednesday, where Fox News’ Chris Wallace is expected to dedicate 15 minutes to the subject."

Afraid of suppressing their own vote, Republicans suddenly deny vote rigging

So what’s going on here? Why are Republicans suddenly disavowing rhetoric that they’ve employed incessantly through the years? It’s because Donald Trump is suppressing the entire GOP vote.

I'm so glad Colbert didn't use a bag of Cheetos.

      I like Cheetos.

I like tangerines too, but not filled with bile and sporting Golden Retriever hair.

Let's just keep our bill of rights, and Constitutions, and let Putin fuck himself. He and that little kitten he's holding to make himself seem more human.

Don't spread this around because they do not want their mom to find out.

That isn't a Nate Silver map. It's a user generated map. It's a "what if" all of the states bordering oceans were blue.

Georgia and South Carolina are still red

Whereas Nevada, Colorado and New Mexico are blue as are Minnesota, Wisconsin, Ohio and Michigan. Even Iowa and Arizona are pale blue. Arizona tends to flop back and forth between pale pink and pale blue.

You can see the real Nate Silver map here:

      http://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2016-election-forecast/

He's not giving Clinton an 88% chance of winning.

343 electoral vote with 49.8% of the vote. That's conservative. I think she'll do better on election day.

It looks like Gary Johnson might be losing voters to Hillary. And Evan McMullin is up in Utah, which is a good thing. That takes Utah away from Trump.

Can't wait for the next debate. There's this elvis impersonating senile creep with trump signs on his lawn, someone, probably kids, replaced them with Hillary signs, he called the local news, who felt it wasn't worth reporting, so now he has these hand written signs which no one would stop and try to read. Something about shooting first and asking questions later.
I want Hillary by a landslide just to watch the orange cheeto meltdown, it's gonna be hoooooge folks!!

This is one of the strangest elections I've ever experienced. Trump gets free air time 24/7, and most of it lately hasn't been good. He's trying to associate what Bill did, blaming it on Hillary. The tapes on the bus are the tip of the iceberg, I just hope he has enough money to pay reparations and court fees.
