Samantha Bee's take on the 2nd presidential debate is a "must see."

Courtesy of Raw Story:

Just hours before the debate, Bee describes Trump attempting to grab the media narrative by enlisting the help of four women who say that they’ve been victimized by the husband of his political opponent. Using the women as some sort of “rape victim human shield” was never going to work, however, and the answer for why can easily be found looking at Jennifer Aniston.

“Rubbing a woman’s face in her husband’s infidelities is not the way to America’s heart,” Bee explained. “We love wronged wives. This is the same America that is still obsessed with Jennifer Aniston. Her ex-husband has split up with the woman he cheated on her with and we still want to know if she’s alright.”

In the end, “none of it is Hillary’s fault and none if it erases what Donald did,” Bee said.

I swear this show is getting better all of the time.

Now I would like to take a moment to delve into Trump mocking Hillary over her answer to the Wikileaks kerfuffle in which she referenced Spielberg's movie "Abraham Lincoln."

Trump went after her and essentially accused her of hiding behind Honest Abe and somehow smearing him at the same time.

However the thing is, she was not lying. And it was those hacked e-mails from Wikileaks which prove it.

Courtesy of Quartz:

Hillary Clinton invoked American luminaries Steven Spielberg and Abraham Lincoln to get out of a tight spot in tonight’s presidential debate.

The moment came when she was asked about comments in paid speeches that have dogged her presidential campaign.

Specifically, she was asked about an excerpt of a hacked e-mail containing potentially controversial excerpts from a $225,000 paid speech she delivered to the National Multi-Housing Council in 2013, after she left public office.

In her speech to the nonprofit, she argued that politicians “need both a public and a private position” in order to accomplish anything. The debate moderators asked Clinton on behalf of a voter, “Is it ok for politicians to be two-faced?”

As you see in the video above Hillary responded to that question by saying that she was actually talking about the Spielberg movie and how brilliantly Lincoln held his cards to his chest while working to get the 13th Amendment approved.

Trump then made his derisive comments, and Hillary simply let them stand. And the fact that she let them stand should have been Trump's first clue.

Here is the entire excerpt from that e-mail in question:

*CLINTON SAYS YOU NEED TO HAVE A PRIVATE AND PUBLIC POSITION ON POLICY* *Clinton: “But If Everybody’s Watching, You Know, All Of The Back Room Discussions And The Deals, You Know, Then People Get A Little Nervous, To Say The Least. So, You Need Both A Public And A Private Position.”* CLINTON: You just have to sort of figure out how to — getting back to that word, “balance” — how to balance the public and the private efforts that are necessary to be successful, politically, and that’s not just a comment about today. That, I think, has probably been true for all of our history, and if you saw the Spielberg movie, Lincoln, and how he was maneuvering and working to get the 13th Amendment passed, and he called one of my favorite predecessors, Secretary Seward, who had been the governor and senator from New York, ran against Lincoln for president, and he told Seward, I need your help to get this done. And Seward called some of his lobbyist friends who knew how to make a deal, and they just kept going at it. I mean, politics is like sausage being made. It is unsavory, and it always has been that way, but we usually end up where we need to be. But if everybody’s watching, you know, all of the back room discussions and the deals, you know, then people get a little nervous, to say the least. So, you need both a public and a private position. And finally, I think — I believe in evidence-based decision making. I want to know what the facts are. I mean, it’s like when you guys go into some kind of a deal, you know, are you going to do that development or not, are you going to do that renovation or not, you know, you look at the numbers. You try to figure out what’s going to work and what’s not going to work. [Clinton Speech For National Multi-Housing Council, 4/24/13]

As you can see in context is says something completely different than what was reported by the media, and  certainly different from how Trump tried to characterize it.

Here is a helpful hint for Donald Trump to keep in mind for his next debate with Hillary.

If she says something definitive like this, with the full knowledge that fact checkers are going to scrutinize every word, you should know right up front that it is highly unlikely that she is telling a lie.

OT?:Originating in the 16th century, the word “bully” was a term of endearment meaning lover, or boel in Dutch, and brother, or broeder. Bully then evolved into a greeting for a jolly male friend. By the mid-17th century, an alternative meaning, “harasser of the weak,” had started to emerge. The connection between the positive origins of “bully” and its now almost universal negative implication of “preying on the weak” is not hard to see. That boisterous “male friend” probably just engaged in, well, too much “jolly” locker-room talk.
Like the etymology of this word, bullies have gone full circle from being the strong picking on the weak to becoming the strong complaining about being bullied; in other words, held to account."

God I feel so overwhelmed by all of Trump's Bullshit, and dumbfounded by the fact millions of folks do not see his shit. I figure if he has about twenty million hard core followers, that means there are 300 million, and if about 58% voted in 2012, make that 165 million, more are silently sitting on the sidelines, just waiting for Nov 8th to steam roll his funky white ass into the ground. I can hope, this has got to be a landslide Hillary election.

Keep you fingers crossed and your scuppers clear.

After the so-called debate where he spent 90 minutes pandering to his Far Right extremists, Trump was only able to rally 8,000 of them- 2,000 less than in the same venue a few months ago. And when you think back to his campaign launch and the discovery that professional actors had been paid $50 to be part of the crowd it's reasonable to assume that people are being 'helped' to put the their fat butts on Trump seats.

Also too, I've noticed a lot of his online trolls are way too educated and way too articulate to be genuine supporters. The Right think for some reason (like online polls) trolls are some sort of measure that they can cheat on- and there is always the purchase of followers, like Sarah Palin did (she was found to have a very strong (?40%) Facebook following of young men living in New Delhi).

So, really, nothing that's online is really what it seems- except to little wingnut fools that don't need to be persuaded anyway. The proof is in the pudding, as they say: compare the endorsements and fundraising.

And keep writing those letters to the editor, Lou Sarah.

They've swallowed the Fox, O'Reilly, Beck, Limbaugh bullshit so long they can't accept anything that contradicts their beliefs. It's like a religion. Truth and facts have nothing to do with anything.

They believe and that's an end to it.

You better believe they'll swear the election was rigged if Trump doesn't win.

Cutting off the big head (voice) of this mob will not kill the body underneath, IMHO. It is too strong now to go back underground.

We are watching, in real time, day by day, how fledgling progressive America deals with this evil terrorist element in its society.

Since I cut my cable I don't get TBS and had no way to get Samantha Bee.

Until I discovered her on YouTube. I've subscribed and can watch her on my appleTV. Have been catching Full Frontal for the last few weeks and I am thrilled. She has more than made up for my loss of Jon Stewart.

She should have had first crack at The Daily Show (which I never watch now) but I am so happy someone saw the light and offered her this opportunity.

She is so laugh out loud spot on.

I loved her spoof "tape" and the "apology" that followed.

That being the case, there's no reason her show shouldn't last for a very long time- as it deserves to.

Clinton was trying to explain politics. Any educated person who stumbled their way through a liberal arts university curriculum and belonged to just one club in their lives knows what she's talking about. it's politics, the combined power of persuasion + a good argument + an open mind + a will to do good + understanding human nature + intent on a solid outcome. It's politics. It's not slimy or perverse or lying or cheating or bullying another person. It's politics.

Anything can be twisted out of context, take for instance, locker room talk (as if Trump ever saw the inside of a locker room) and blaming Hillary for her actions when she was first lady of Arkansas. See how propaganda works folks? The process of bribing Democratic members of Congress to vote for the 13th amendment is not an accurate example of having a private position vs a public position. Clinton's smart enough to know it's bullshit or she's not as informed as she should be. And Gryphen here, even though he's had the difference explained to him, is repeating it again. He's turned into a propagandist who'd repeat any lie that he thought would help his gal get elected.

If you remembered your American History accurately you'd know Clinton's analogy to Lincoln and the 13th amendment is nonsense. Lincoln held one position on the 13th amendment: pass it as written. What went on in private was the cajoling, arm-twisting, and yes, bribing of Democratic members of Congress to approve the amendment as written so Lincoln wouldn't have to wait until the next Congress. He didn't hold a private position that differed from his public position. Clinton however does. She told Wall Streeters she's for fracking and tells the public she's against it. She told wealthy donors she'd approve the TPP with a few changes while she tells the publc she's against it entirely. She told people who paid $225,000 for her speech that she thinks Wall St is best equipped to regulate itself but made campaign promise to appoint more independent regulators. She's only fooling ignorant people with her analogy.

Women are making all the difference.

    http://fivethirtyeight.com/features/election-update-women-are-defeating-donald-trump/?ex_cid=2016-forecast

They put Obama over the top but they are handing Hillary a landslide.

"But it seems fair to say that, if Trump loses the election, it will be because women voted against him. I took a look at how men and women split their votes four years ago, according to polls conducted in November 2012. On average, Mitt Romney led President Obama by 7 percentage points among men, about the same as Trump’s 5-point lead among men now. But Romney held his own among women, losing them by 8 points, whereas they’re going against Trump by 15 points."

"That’s the difference between a close election — as you’ll remember, those national polls in late 2012 showed the race neck-and-neck — and one that’s starting to look like a blowout."

So now, Trump says the gloves are off and that Bannon guy is his new manager. They are going full fledge after Hillary. The boys don't want to lose this one and it's going to be a rough month. Don't know if I can take it. One of Trump supporters stood up in a Pence talk and said she would go to war if Hillary wins. Pence tried to calm her down and he gave this woeful look when he said our country is in trouble. I know he isn't talking about himself, Trump, and the Republicans. He means America and the way it is now at this current time accepting of Gays, Transgender, and minorities. It's a scary year this year. Hitler is being revived and encouraged by Putin. Don't need Halloween this year.

    Why WikiLeaks hates Hillary Clinton

...“In recent months, the WikiLeaks Twitter feed has started to look more like the stream of an opposition research firm working mainly to undermine Hillary Clinton than the updates of a non-partisan platform for whistleblowers,” the Intercept’s Robert Mackey writes.

So what’s going on? Why does it seem like WikiLeaks hates Clinton so much?

Part of the explanation is ideological: WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has consistently expressed a kind of leftist-sounding critique of the United States that would lead him to despise Clinton’s foreign policy. That likely explains the seemingly personal antipathy that you see on, say, the group’s Twitter feed.

But it doesn’t explain why WikiLeaks keeps getting information on Clinton and not Trump. Trump has his secrets — like, say, his tax returns — yet WikiLeaks isn’t publishing those.

So where is WikiLeaks’ information coming from?

The description of politics above isn't having a public and a private position.

Here are examples of having a public and private position: Clinton's campaign site says she wants more regulators for Wall St but she told Wall Streeters in private that she thinks they're best equipped to regulate themselves.Clinton says she is against the TPP, period. In private she said she'd be for it with a few 'tweeks'. In public she says she's against fracking. In private she boasted about promoting it. She says in public she wants to enforce immigration law but she told a trade group she dreams of open borders.

Saying you believe one thing in public and something different in private isn't "politics", it's being deceptive with the electorate about what your real positions are. It's lying, pure and simple. It's evidence of the lack of candor and transparency that are the basis of a lot of the criticism of Clinton by the left, not the right.

If you believe this is kind of behavior is OK, you have lost your way. Voters deserve to know what they're really getting.
