Election Night Open Thread.Election Night Open Thread. (Alternate title, "Oh please let the country still be here tomorrow!")

So I decided to open this up a little earlier than my previous open threads because some of the polls have already closed and a whole lot more of them will be closing pretty soon so we might actually have a fair idea as to how this is going early tonight.

Or...

This thing could go into the wee hours of the night and into the morning and we could all end up going to sleep with our heart rate through the roof and our fists full of our own hair.

Hopefully that last possibility will not be the case.

So far as of this post Trump has won Indiana with 11 electoral votes, and Kentucky with 8, giving him 19 so far tonight.

Hillary has won Vermont which has 3 electoral votes.

According to most pollsters this should be Hillary's night, and the Princeton Election Consortium is even more optimistic with a projection of 323 electoral votes for Clinton, and a 51 seat majority in the Senate, while a Daily Kos statistician predicts 347 electoral votes for Hillary Clinton tonight.

I want to believe.

I actually went out this morning and purchased enough wine to put myself into an alcoholic stupor if things start to go badly for our side. But unfortunately I have work tomorrow so my stupor has an expiration date.

I will post results as they come in and update the blog as new information becomes available.

As always my Twitter account can be found here though I make no promises that it will make a whole lot of sense as the night wears on.

Update: So West Virginia's 5 electoral votes have been added to Trump's total, giving him 24 so far tonight.

Update 2: South Carolina for Trump, 9 electoral votes. He now has 33 altogether.

Update 3: Trump adds Tennessee 11, Alabama 9, Oklahoma 7, and Mississippi 6, to his numbers for a total of 66 electoral votes so far.

However Hillary just added Illinois 20, New Jersey 14, Massachusetts 11, Maryland 10, Connecticut 7, Rhode Island 4, Delaware 3, and the District of Columbia 3, for a new total of 75 electoral votes.

Feel better?

Update 4: Currently MSNBC has the race 137 for Trump and 104 for Hillary.

While Google is showing 123 for Trump and 97 for Clinton.

Definitely a nail biter tonight.

Update 5: Everybody is feeling it.
Certainly NOT the night I was anticipating.

Update 6: IF Trump were actually to win tonight, and I cannot believe I am saying that out loud, we will have allowed Wikileaks, Russia, and the FBI undermine our democracy.

And if I believed in Hell, I would expect there to be a seat saved for James Comey.

Update 7: The Dow just plunged 500 points.

If Trump were to win I bet it would crash altogether.

Update 8: Trump just picked up Montana's 3 electoral votes.

Now 104 for Clinton and 140 for Trump.

Update 9: New Mexico's 5 electoral votes just went to Hillary giving her 109.

Update 10: Missouri to Trump, giving him 150.

Update 11: Ohio goes to Trump. Now has 168.

Update 12: Virginia's 13 electoral votes just went to Clinton.  This is a very important win for Hillary.

Now stands at Trump with 168 and Clinton with 122.

Update 13: Clinton now 131 to Trump's 168.

Update 14: MSNBC has Clinton with 209 and Trump with 187, and HuffPo has it with Clinton at 197 and Trump with 201.

No matter which one is correct the map is looking for difficult for Hillary at this point.

Update 15: Okay according to HuffPo Trump now has 216 to Hillary's 197.

MSNBC has not updated since that last one.

Others have Trump with even more.

Update 16: MSNBC just updated with Trump winning Florida and other smaller states.

Right now they have Hillary at 209 still and Trump with 228.

Update 17: Okay folks I am going to call it.

Trump is going to be our next President.

I keep looking at the numbers, and the states that are left, and I simply cannot honestly conceive of a way for Hillary to pull this out.

Which means that tomorrow we will wake up to a Republican in the White House, backed up by a Republican Senate and a Republican Congress.

I want more than I can possibly tell you to be wrong about this, but I just don't see how I could be.

Good bye Obamacare, good bye job growth, good bye our reputation around the world, and good bye progress.

I feel so badly for President Obama right now. This must be killing him.

GOP Pollster Frank Luntz Says Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania Firmly In Clinton Column

The numbers I'm getting now suggest a nationwide turnout that strongly favors Hillary.

And if Hillary does well, so will down-ballot Dems.

Then he's not looking at the returns.

Michigan and Wisconsin both have Trump at 49% and Clinton at 46%.

If she loses either she has to win...Arizona. You shitting me? She's not going to win Arizona.

Trump is leading in North Carolina with 75% of the votes counted.

Florida is Trump 49% and Clinton 48% with 99% of the votes counted. If it goes Trump it's all over.

      We are all screwed.

Just the fact that states go red in this election makes me livid. Trump is a complete buffoon. But, thankfully for the GOP, people are JUST PLAIN FUCKING STUPID. And under/mis- informed.

That's what the system relies upon. Derptastic voters. I firmly believe that voting should be a PRIVELEDGE, not a right. There is a difference. Just like a driver's license. Pass a test, corky.

Just a simple civics question like, "What are the 3 branches of government." I'm sure everyone here at IM knows that. But the average "sound byte," voter has no clue.

Weed out the morons. Seriously. I've met soooo many truly stupid people that should NEVER have the priveledge to vote.

Btw, my opinion applies to our ENTIRE political spectrum. Not just the (currently tragically diseased) right wing, whatever's left of that. But mostlly to the right. For obvious reasons.

Our first "reality show" POTUS should be a hoot, and really, as Trump himself said this was the last chance for the white majority ever again to make their voice heard and I think many took that seriously.

2000 and 2004 were hell. I couldn't believe W won a second time. It was clear then that half this country is stupid and unevolved. And they are happy being that way. Now, the stupid is combined with more evil than back then. The lack of morals and forward thinking and the insistence that evolution is fake and women are second-class citizens is sickening.

This is the result of the Clinton supporters underestimating how much people really, really, really, really dislike being mistreated by them. Had they been smart like and embraced Bernie supporters early on, they would not be getting their asses handed to them. That sense of entitlement, as many predicted, is wiping that smugness off their faces and leaving the entire world sick to their stomachs for their ridiculous ability to undervalue the opinion of others and, once again, snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Clinton supporters have earned exactly what they have sewn!

You still refuse to accept that how intense the dislike is for Hillary across a huge swath of US, democrats too.

That is what is combined with the disenfranchised voters, who are not just 'rural'. They definitely see Hillary as a continuation of disenfranchisement that was started by Obama.

It is completely possible and probable that these voters could have votted for Bernie, because at least he spoke to them, socialist policies or not.

It is as clear as day if you don't cloud your head in Hillary and DNC echo chambers.

And BTW - A LOT more people are seriously pissed off about immigration than anyone wants to acknowledge.

LOOKS LIKE SARAH PALIN FINALLY GOT HER WISH.

"I SO DON'T WANT TO GO BACK TO ALASKA"

    REMEMBER THIS?

"I think a lot about the Department of Energy," Palin said

Palin said that if energy secretary, she would "get rid" of the department

Trump, who has said he'd "love" for Palin to serve in his administration

    Washington (CNN)
Sarah Palin knows the position she wants in a Donald Trump administration: Energy secretary.

"I think a lot about the Department of Energy, because energy is my baby: oil and gas and minerals, those things that God has dumped on this part of the Earth for mankind's use instead of us relying on unfriendly foreign nations," she told CNN's Jake Tapper in an interview that aired Sunday on "State of the Union."

But Palin, the GOP's 2008 vice presidential nominee, might be the first potential cabinet member to openly speak about dissolving their office.

"I'd get rid of (the Energy Department). And I'd let the states start having more control over the lands that are within their boundaries and the people who are affected by the developments within their states.

If I were in charge of that, it would be a short-term job, but it would be ... really great to have someone who knows energy and is pro-responsible development to be in charge."

What the alt-right racists fail to understand is that there are plenty of people they would like to disenfranchise that have lived in this country longer than they have. Every Native American. Plenty of blacks, Asians and hispanics.

But there are plenty of whites that would fail the test. For instance my parents, my siblings and me. Only my nephews and niece would be able to vote under Colter's Nazi purity test.

"Determining voting rights based on grandparents sounds uncomfortably similar to Nazi Germany’s Nuremberg Laws of 1935, the sweeping antisemitic legislation that stripped Jewish people of basic civil rights. They could no longer hold public office and had no formal expectation to the right to vote.

The first amendment of the Nuremberg Laws defined a Jewish person not by religious beliefs, but by having three to four Jewish grandparents."

With Trump in the White House and Republicans controlling the house and senate and being able to fill up to FOUR Supreme Court vacancies....what do you think AmeriKKKa is going to look like in four years?

I'm an old white guy and this is killing me. I cannot begin to imagine what this must feel like to those who literally have skin in the game and lives on the line.

To the people that called me a troll, an asshole, an idiot, a basement dweller, a person that lives at home with my mothers, and a spoiled brat that wanted free stuff without earning it:

YOU are the reason Clinton lost.

Hopefully now you are convinced that, regardless of being the most experienced candidate, if you give people who need to vote for you a reason not to like you, you're not going to win. We tried to tell you to listen to us and simply be respectful of our differing opinions. But NO! You had to shit on our passion and discount the message of our preferred candidate.

Add to that the shadiness of her team's and your tactics and disingenuous mode of operandi, the gut feeling America got of Clinton not being trustworthy only made the 30 years of being under the Republican bus justifiable (regardless of how much you tried to polish her turds throughout the election cycle). Even though all politicians behave that way, she simply got a big ass flashlight placed on her with fresh batteries on a global scale.

Her camps' tactics were underhanded and downright dirty. The email thing, though it was super overplayed and tired and alarmingly sponsored by foreign entities, it showed exactly how low the Clinton camp would go to win. It also showed how much Trump is in bed with Russia so I'm assuming we're going to become just like them within the next 2-4 years. I wouldn't even be surprised if they rigged the election for him to win (especially since he projects much and has proven that he works with hackers and the FBI). Rove said it was easy to rig it if the count is close -- like tonight. Technically, she was NEVER going to win.

Do I prefer her over Trump? Absolutely!

Did I prefer anybody else over Hillary Clinton? Absolutely!

And I blame all of the Bernie-bashing Clinton supporters for her defeat. You all collectively earned it by your bullying and righteous entitled attitudes. It's not just the rural voters that won this. It was American people in general that felt slighted and ignored by the Clinton Camp and her supporters. News flash! You did need us.

I am terrified of the next four years. Hopefully, over the next four years, you will learn that everyone's opinion matters, will appreciate what everyone brings to the table and will be willing to earn back the respect we so willingly gave to you. Regardless whether they agree with you or not.

Hopefully, she can pull this off, but in true Clinton fashion of spiking the football too soon . . . well, you know.

Best of luck to you over the next few hours and next four years.
