Hillary Clinton not only won the popular vote, she won the popular vote by a large margin.

Courtesy of the New York Times:

Hillary Clinton didn’t just win the popular vote. She won it by a substantial margin.

By the time all the ballots are counted, she seems likely to be ahead by more than 2 million votes and more than 1.5 percentage points, according to my Times colleague Nate Cohn. She will have won by a wider percentage margin than not only Al Gore in 2000 but also Richard Nixon in 1968 and John F. Kennedy in 1960.

You notice that when I write about the Trump presidency I will use a lower case "p," whereas I also used the upper case "P" when talking about Obama.

The reason for that is President Obama was indeed our duly elected President, while a president Trump is Putin's choice for president.

The American people elected their first female President in 2016, others such as the FBI, Wikileaks, and Russia used terrorist techniques and an antiquated electoral system to put the guy headed to the White House into office.

    She "lost" Mi by .3%, not sure if they are still counting, but might have won if the 3rd party candidates didn't take votes.

    Also voter numbers were really low especially in Detroit.

      Speaking of MI, Debbie Dingell has been writing and going around on TV saying how she begged people in H's campaign to listen to her about what needed doing in parts of MI. Yet she also goes on to talk about driving Bill C to the store and as if she is actually pretty good friends with the Clintons. If so, then she had their ear. And I think they would have listened. Especially given Bubba's instincts for people and the working class. I just don't see the Clintons as ignoring Dingell if she spoke to them directly and with as much concern as she now professes to have had.

      Here are #s on the close states still counting votes. As well, there's talk about a recount possibility.

      Thing that my husband and I wondered was: what about the overseas votes for FLA? In 2000 those took something like three weeks to come in, many from Israel. Not the case anymore? They are now forced to vote very early?

      And it's too bad WI had new voter suppression going on with new voter ID laws and the like.

      9:29, from what I've read, Bill Clinton did implore to the campaign that they needed to work harder to appeal to the blue collar crowd, the rust belt, the factory workers, the people who had been left behind the last eight years. His concerns fell on mostly deaf ears and instead they tried to motivate the same base that elected Obama, and it failed. Bubba knew.

      What's interesting is that Clinton received a much higher percentage of votes from lower income Americans, those who earn less than $50,000, so it does seem like a majority of those who have been left behind economically voted for her.

      The highest percentage of Trump voters came from those earning more than $50,000 annually.

    If the electoral rules were changes or removed, the voting public and vote count would likely change quite a bit also. So it really is a fallacy observation to reflect so much on the total vote count while the electoral college exists.

    The FBI did not elect Trump.

Don't know if ya all noticed your dishnetwork or directtv acting odd on election day? but the ass clowns were working their hateful magic on America and we sat right through it. What is troubling is how our elected, hired, law enforcement agencies are also split and divided. Also our military. It is troubling those around trump, all have this smell about them. Time for the line in the sand. American or not. Trump will never be President of the United States of America. He will be impeached or forced to resign by year end. he is NOT charitable. His Foundation paid off Pam Bondi (yes, she is now a sweet advisor) to drop the Trump U case in Florida. Also paid off Abbot in Texas. The FL donation was illegally from the Foundation and cost him a measly $2500 fine (which I;m sure the Foundation said as well.) Giving out OPM is not charity. It's like that creepy Frank Graham and his shoeboxes. He gets people to pay money to fill these boxes, send him money for 'postage' and then he hops in his jet and takes couple of photo ops. Isn't he wonderful? Then he collect his million dollar Foundation paid salary as well. OPM.

    National Security Threatened By Religious Amendment In Defense Spending Bill

    ...That’s right, the Russell Amendment, like North Carolina’s “temporarily” unconstitutional “bathroom law,” grants full legal discriminatory authority in direct opposition to the Civil Rights Act, Americans With Disabilities Act, and the Constitution’s 14th Amendment to any religious or racist bigot to discriminate if they claim their religious sensibilities are offended. This means a single mother can be fired, a woman who uses contraception, married or not, can be fired, a person practicing the wrong or no religion can be fired, and of course people of color, unmarried cohabitants, and LGBT people can be summarily and legally terminated based on someone else’s religious grounds.

    Religious Right Believes Donald Trump Will Deliver on His Promises

    ...Now that he has won, evangelical leaders say they are confident Mr. Trump will deliver on the political promises he made to them. These include appointing a conservative to the Supreme Court, defunding Planned Parenthood, protecting businesses that refuse to provide services for same-sex weddings and rescinding the mandate in the Affordable Care Act that requires insurance coverage for birth control.

    And with Gov. Mike Pence of Indiana, an evangelical with a record of legislating against abortion and same-sex marriage, as vice president, Christian leaders say they feel reassured they will have access to the White House and a seat at the table.

    That with the capital and lower case 'p' is exactly what I am doing too!

    That said: how can someone become president of the USA, if he has been revealed to be a Russian spy puppet?! I mean, the Russians have admitted on Nov. 9 and later, that they have been in constant contact with his campaign, and that they have actually interfered with our elections. He has not disclosed his taxes, which would have shown that he has intimate financial ties with Russia (even his son, Eric, admitted that most of his financial dealings were with Russia in 2009 or later...).
    Shouldn't he be in PRISON under the spy act?
    HOW can we give him briefings from the NSA? We might as well simply pronounce all our plans openly to the world, or invite Putin to personally attend those meetings!

    Another rant: How can he get his family all over the government/transition team, and also get his children to be the 'uninvolved' administrators of his 'blind trust'???!!!
    This Russian spy CON will be the first president who will make tons and tons of $$$ for himself during however brief his regency will be. (Yes, I used the word 'regency'!)

    Maybe we should really look on getting those electorates to vote for what the people want, not what the party wants. I know, Hillary is not the ideal President, but she will at least be much, much better. Even with a completely uncooperative Congress.

    DNC in Mutiny as Staffer Explodes on Donna Brazile for Helping Elect Trump

    ...“Why should we trust you as chair to lead us through this?” he asked, according to two people in the room. “You backed a flawed candidate, and your friend [ousted DNC chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz] plotted through this to support your own gain and yourself,” Zach said.

    After staffers started booing Zach and tried to get him to sit, Zach then escalated his attack on Brazile, saying the Democratic Party’s 2016 drubbing will likely lead to mass extinction.

    “You are part of the problem,” Zach said. “You and your friends will die of old age and I’m going to die from climate change. You and your friends let this happen, which is going to cut 40 years off my life expectancy.”

    Did anybody catch any of those images and videos coming out of the Capitol and White House yesterday? To my eye, Trump looked like a train wreck survivor. He walked slowly through the halls, mostly looking down at his feet, and kept almost a death grip on Melania’s hand, like he was hanging over the edge of a lifeboat. I think I saw him smile once, and that was when he cut off the reporters from questions, and even that smile looked almost wistful. Even when Paul Ryan took him out onto the Speakers balcony to describe his inauguration to him, he wasn’t tall and proud, he nodded his head and his shoulders seemed slumped, as if under a tremendous weight.

    Welcome to reality Donnie. And no, I don’t mean the t.v. kind of reality you babbling poltroon, I mean the kind of reality the rest of us live with every day. Reality t.v. is great, you strut into a room, sit in your high backed chair, scowl at everybody and snarl insults at all and sundry, until the part where you point your finger at one of them and angrily say “You’re fired”! And they just lower their eyes and nod their heads, good little sheep that they are.

    Not anymore fool, not in 70 days. Yesterday you just met your worst nightmare. People who aren’t scared of you, nor intimidated by you. News flash laddie, you can’t fire Mitch McConnell or Paul Ryan, and you can’t order them around like the myriad of minions over in Trump Tower. These guys are going to eat you up and spit you out. You may not have a clue as to what you can actually do as President, but they know perfectly well everything you can and can’t do, and every single thing that they can do. Good luck stiffing them if you don’t like the quality of their work, the people pay them, not you, you have no leverage there either.

I was so surprised to see it and couldn't remember him ever showing any kind of sweet PDA toward her, just the requisite hugs and kisses that could be given to anyone and also some stilted looking non-embraces. So I googled to see if there was anything more on them having a history of hand holding. I didn't search for long, but I found nothing. Yeah, him holding a woman's hand was something that really stood out to me. And death grip was it, yes. His hands are so fugly. So white and smooth and stubby and girthy. He has no distinction between the palm and his wrists--there's just a blending of the two. So gross.

      Don't let his demeanor fool you. Donald Trump is a narcisstic sociopath playing the game a sociopath plays: feigning humility, seeking to draw in and manipulate people to benefit himself. Once he gets the lay of the land - and he's smart, he'll catch on quickly - he'll leave a swath of rejected helpers behind. Ryan and McConnell and other Repugs are licking their chops that they're the ones who are going to be able to manipulate this neophyte into fulfilling their agenda. I think they're in for a big surprise. The narcissist wants to be adored. Once he realizes that many parts of their agenda - privatizing Medicare and SS, getting rid of even the parts of Obamacare that people like - could make him less popular, I think he'll balk.

      Trump's going to do his own thing, not be led around by the Swamp dwellers he promised to get rid of. And Ryan and Mcconnell are the swampiest of swamp dwellers. So while he's probably going to do some things that terrify us, he's probably going to do some things that terrify them too. Ryan and McConnell are no different from the 17 seasoned Republicans Trump sliced and diced in the primaries. If there's any eating up and spitting out that goes on, it's going to be by Trump on them.

      No they can't all vote how they want. Electors from some states are bound by state law to vote according to the results in the state. Others are bound by pledges to their party. Many/most of the electors hold leadership positions in their party. The probability is very low that enough would flip to give the election to Clinton. And then the elector college votes have to be certified by the Congress. If the electors flip, the Congress could decline to certify and elect the President and VP themselves. The outcome would be obvious in a Republican controlled House and Senate. This is a waste of time and energy.

      Anon at 11:10 am. At some point early on during Bush's first term, I came in remote contact with one of the "fake Dade Co." residents. A young woman who had worked in Michigan's on-the-way-out Republican governor's administration, she was one of a large group of GOP employees/operatives sent from all over to Florida to rant and rave and demand whatever it was that they were demanding. What they did brought the recount to an end and handed the election to the likes of Scalia and Thomas. The media could have easily figured it out if they had done some investigative journalism. The participants, from everywhere except Dade Co. Florida, were having a lark! For this young woman, too, it was a joke, just another typical GOP "dirty trick" - only this one led to 9/11, the invasion of a country that was not responsible for 9/11, a seemingly unending war, most of the Middle Eastern chaos that persists to this day, tens of thousands (if not many more) deaths and injuries, the disruption of millions of lives, and here ultimately to the real estate collapse that began in Florida and ended up almost destroying the US economy. Some joke. Thanks, media.

    In his column today Dana Milbank reported some stats from CNN's exit polling done last Tuesday:
    -29 percent of Trump voters were bothered by his treatment of women;
    - 20 percent of Trump voters said he did not have the temperament to be president;
    - 21 percent of Trump voters said he is neither honest nor trustworthy;
    - 14 percent of Trump voters said they would have a negative view of his election.

    Generally, according to the CNN exit polls, voters do not want a wall constructed on the border with Mexico, only 25 percent want illegal immigrants deported, voters do not want Obamacare or free trade ended (people, other than Trump, seem to understand that tariffs will hurt us more than "them").

    So why did people vote for Trump? Mostly because of the emails (God help us, please), worries about the economy (fact: the economy always does better when Democrats lead the country) and fear of terrorism (who was in office on 9/11/2001 exactly?

    Wouldn't it be wonderful to have an electorate that understood that its not a bad thing to be concerned about one's own "best interests." They're propbably the same "best interests" of the entire population, no matter what age, region, education, ethnicity or religion. If we got the chance to learn about one another we might do better in this "one Nation under God, with liberty and justice for all."

    Waste of time, electoral college route? Yeah tell Rosa Parks it is a waste of time, tell all those who stood up, they were wasting their time. Oh I have a special pie for you. Just saying we got to push it. Act on it. You don't think the cat grabbers are tryin to figure out how to dump trump themselves, he is a very stupid old old fat man.

      You're comparing 'signing' an online petition to what Rosa Parks did? Good grief. What a special snowflake you must be to think sitting on your ass and pushing a button on your computer compares to what she or anyone else who has ever risked their safety or life to really stand up for something. I bet you think you're as brave as the folks who crossed that bridge in Selma.

    Clinton's Popular-Vote Lead
    Will Grow, and Grow, and Grow

    But let’s be clear: While these uncounted votes may grow Clinton’s popular lead, they absolutely will not change the course of the election. That math is settled; Trump holds an insurmountable lead in swing states, which turned his popular defeat into a sizable electoral victory. All the votes in liberal-leaning New York and California will not change that.

    However, these ballots will knock the legs out beneath the argument that Clinton failed to mobilize Democrats. Yes, she’s no Obama in 2008. (Neither was Obama in 2012.)
    But county-by-county results indicate Democratic voters flipped for Trump, not that they stayed home. “We just saw massive shifts in the industrial midwest from ’12 to ’16, and those are the same voters,” Wasserman said. This is the conclusion Democrats must face, and in the absence of other data, it’s the one they’ll have to live with."
