China lodges complaint over Trump call with Taiwan.

How would I know about foreign relations? I'm a reality show star.
Courtesy of CNN:

China's foreign ministry said Saturday it has lodged a complaint with the United States over a controversial phone call between President-elect Donald Trump and Taiwan's President that has overturned decades of diplomatic protocol.

China views Taiwan as a renegade province and, since 1979, the US has acknowledged Beijing's claim that Taiwan is part of China, with US-China relations governed by a set of protocols known as the 'one China' policy.

This means there are no formal diplomatic relations between the United States and Taiwan -- so Trump's decision to take Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen's call could risk a major upset.

"We have noticed relevant reports and lodged solemn representation with the relevant side in the United States," said a statement Saturday from China's Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang.

"I must point out that there is only one China in the world and Taiwan is an inseparable part of the Chinese territory ... The 'one China' principle is the political foundation of China-US relations.

Donald Trump blamed this mix up on the fact that Taiwan called HIM.
However according to a spokesman for the Taiwanese President that is not the case:

The telephone call between Taiwan president Tsai Ing-wen and U.S. president-elect Donald Trump was agreed to ahead of time, said presidential office spokesman Alex Huang on Saturday.

"Of course both sides agreed ahead of time before making contact," Huang told Reuters, when asked about Trump's Twitter message stating that it was Tsai who called him.

What? Donald Trump's lying?

Must be Saturday.

But why would Donald Trump risk an international incident with China just to take a phone call with the Taiwanese President?

Is he just ignorant of protocol, or could it be something else?

Courtesy of Shanghaiist:

The mayor of Taoyuan confirmed rumors on Wednesday that US president-elect Donald Trump was considering constructing a series of luxury hotels and resorts in the northwest Taiwanese city.

A representative from the Trump Organization paid a visit to Taoyuan in September, expressing interest in the city's Aerotropolis, a large-scale urban development project aimed at capitalizing on Taoyuan's status as a transport hub for East Asia, Taiwan News reports. With the review process for the Aerotropolis still underway, Taoyuan's mayor referred to the subject of the meeting as mere investment speculation. Other reports indicate that Eric Trump, the president-elect's second son and executive vice president of the Trump Organization, will be coming to Taoyuan later this year to discuss the potential business opportunity.

Putting a potential business opportunity before the safety and security of the American people.

This is your new president America.

I sure looks like Trump is going to use the office the President to enrich himself. He will go too far and get himself impeached, which is as it should be.

You don't have to be a rocket scientist to see that the coming Administration is probably going to be the most corrupt Administration in the history of our county.

I came on to leave a note about Trump's potential business deals in Taiwan - and you are already on it. I have only seen this mentioned on Raw Story. I have to wonder how long some of his ardent political supporters can turn a blind eye. I think not until they are covered in slime will they take action. Jeez!!
By the time he is sworn in there will be enough to impeach him? Will that happen?

I agree, Barbara -- Electors: think it through.

Bull in a china shop, Trump is. Not that the china has to be so fragile, but years of agreements (imperfect though they may be) on keeping the world peaceful deserve a little thought before Trump willy nilly clomps his way over them. Remember how grateful we were that Obama did not put his foot into it on a regular basis like other presidents have done? I for one got used to his dignity.

I knew Trump would do his idiot shenanigans on the world stage, just like he did when campaigning.

    Electors: are you paying attention???

Honest mistake. That he can't be making.
I'll admit I know not a lot about the situation, but it seems confusing that if they are one entity, why is there a president of Taiwan?
Anyways, I'm not the president elect, so I can be confused. Drumpf can't!!

Not an honest mistake to be so ignorant as Trump is and then just blunder ahead. To think he can do okay with that. Yes, a quick read would fix YOUR lack of understanding of the situation, but there's so much more that any president should be aware of. Esp knowing what he does not know. His ego would prevent that kind of knowledge. In his anti-fact, anti-experts worldview.

China can punish Trump personally on this - remember all his boasting at his rallies about having this bank, owned by the Chinese government in his tower ....

"The Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, China's massive state-owned bank and the world's biggest lender, currently rents space in Trump Tower"

"The bank's lease is slated to end in October 2019, adding its renewal to the list of potential conflicts of interest for president-elect Trump, who has vowed to slap steep tariffs on Chinese imports and declare China a currency manipulator. The lease is no small matter for the Trump Organization. ICBC was Trump Tower's largest office tenant as of 2012, occupying 11 percent of its office space"

    http://www.businessinsider.com/trump-has-a-conflict-of-interest-with-the-chinese-government-2016-11

"As of September 2012, the bank paid $95.48 per square foot for its Trump Tower space -- more than any other major office tenant in the tower, the Wells Fargo filing shows. For ICBC’s 20,404 square feet, that’s almost $1.95 million a year"

Donald Trump’s Education Secretary Pick Wants To Make Christianity A Bigger Part Of Schooling

...“The Lord did lead us there, quietly by the heart,” he said, adding that he and Betsy hope “someday, for all parents to be able to educate their children in a school that reflects their worldview and not each day sending their child to a school that may be reflecting a worldview quite antithetical ― which, unfortunately, is the case in some places ― to the worldview that they hold in their family.”

...The couple has decided “to impact our culture in ways that are not the traditional funding-the-Christian-organization route, but that really may have greater Kingdom gain in the long run by changing the way we approach things, in this case the system of education in the country.”

With a little over a month until Donald Trump takes office, the president-elect and his allies have already begun to attack the guarantees of the First Amendment, signaling how imperiled the fundamental freedoms of the Constitution could be under a Trump presidency.

Trump has long shown contempt for the media and, as he prepares to take power, he and his allies haven’t held back.

On Thursday, Corey Lewandowski, who is Trump’s former campaign manager and expected to have a role in a Trump White House, said that New York Times editor Dean Baquet should be in jail because the paper published parts of Trump’s tax return during the campaign.

Boy oh boy - the asshole Trump is working every angle and his becoming potus is going to be a joke! The VP will do all the work - that is obvious already!

I detest Donald Trump and hope he'll be impeached within his first year of taking office. I would think he'll break law after law immediately!

I'm assured of one thing so far though - the media and journalists (and MSNBC - Rachel Maddow and Lawrence O'Donnell) are staying on top of his doings and I hope it continues after he is in office.

But, how much success will Trump have in stopping negative articles being written about him or disclosures of his illegal doings (and those of his family members) going to print?

I want to see his ass kicked to kingdom come!
Don't trust him as far as I can throw him.

I am thrilled this is happening. This week--I'm feeling very sure of this--Trump ramped up the visual signs of being the pres. Like they say that possession is 90% of the law, he'd been doing that with his visitors for positions being paraded out (typical Trump PR but with additional symbolism), doing all those phone calls, doing his YouTube thing and then Carrier and starting the thank you tour (I’m not sure but I think the tour was to start later), and it just felt like he wanted to drill it into people’s heads that he had already started taking over. This way, any talk about election abnormalities would die down (and people protesting). I think he ramped things up once the recount talk really got serious and he saw Stein able to quickly raise those millions. He was doing what he always does with optics. It was pissing me off that there was nothing happening with Florida. The people who can do it really need to keep pushing for those recounts and not give in as the GOPs in those states try to stop things for Trump, as they have been.

It is now widely known that Donald Trump has already experienced his first major foreign policy blunder and that it has to do with China, one of the most powerful countries on the planet. The breadth of Trump’s mistake is staggering, and the ignorance of he and his supporters something to behold, as Newsweek‘s Kurt Eichenwald explained this morning on twitter:

“There are so many self-assured tweets from Trump supporters that clearly know nothing about foreign policy on China that it is breathtaking.”

One would imagine that the fact that China has lodged an official complaint over the incident would have some meaning, but apparently, Trump and his followers are serious about facts being passé.

In a series of tweets, Eichenwald then proceeded to lecture Donald Trump on what he has done and how to go about fixing it. First, he informs Trump that he has violated a policy going all the way back to Republican president Richard M. Nixon:

    YES?

    NO?

    MAYBE SO?

    ● Donald Trump’s Company Denies Reports Of Taiwan Hotel Development

    ● In November, the mayor of Taoyuan, a municipality that holds Taiwan’s main airport, told Taiwanese media that a representative of the Trump Organization had traveled to the island and expressed interest in building a hotel there.

    ● “There are no plans for expansion into Taiwan nor are any of our executives planning a visit. The rumors of a planned development in Taiwan are simply false,” Jennifer Rodstrom, a Trump Organization spokeswoman, wrote in an email. “There have been no authorized visits to Taiwan on behalf of our brand for the purposes of development nor are there any active conversations.”

    SO WHO DO WE BELIEVE?

Trump doesn't care about policy or tradition or bipartisanship. He told us this when his daughter sat in on the meeting with the Japanese Prime Minister. The career people at State must be beside themselves. Everything with Trump is going to be bilateral: Trump deals with a single company ala the Carrier deal. Trump deals with a single country ala Taiwan, Phillipines. No way he picks Betrayus or Romney for Sec of State. He'll let them kiss is butt for a few more days then he'll say he's nominating Bolton because that's how reality shows work: it's down to two contestants but they unexpectedly they bring back an eliminated contestant from 2nd chance kitchen or last chance survivor.
