Here is the final election vote tally.

I confirmed these numbers over at the Cook Report. They are only off by a small handful, not enough to make much of a difference.

Using either set of numbers it appears that Hillary Clinton lost this election with a lead of just slightly under 2,865,000 votes.

And I mean JUST under.

As Donald Trump would say, "That is unpresidented."

But what it really means that just a handful less than 3 million more people voted for Hillary Clinton than voted for the Orange stubby fingered Orangutan.

In other words Trump has no mandate, and in fact if there is any mandate at all it is to fight him every step of the way and then make sure nothing like this ever happens again.

Oh and one more thing, since the combined totals for Stein and Johnson are just shy of 6 million votes, more than enough to have kept Trump out of the White House, perhaps these childish amateurs who selfishly vote third party will finally recognize how important it is to participate in the REAL election process.

A lesson by the way that most Americans should have learned way back in 2000.

And, here is what those counts mean:

A MINORITY voted for Trump: 46.7%,

What THE MAJORITY voted against him: 53.3%

That is NO MANDATE, no way, no how.

Unfortunately, the way the votes fell, he won the Electoral College, unless they have been paying attention and know he will harm their country so badly that they do the right thing and call their election for the true winner, the woman for whom about 3 million more Americans voted than voted for Trump. No Mandate for Trump no matter what he says, and we all have to keep saying that over and over to all those silly enough to buy his distortions of the truth of this election outcome.

Trump spokesman Jason Miller said that discrimination will not be tolerated:

“President-elect Trump campaigned on a message of unity in order to bring all Americans together. To think that discrimination of any kind will be condoned or tolerated in a Trump Administration is simply absurd.”

    1. I'm sorry, maybe I wasn't paying close attention to Trump's campaign messages, rallies, tweets, speeches and administration cabinet and miscellaneous other appointment picks, was that bringing America together? Was he preaching unity and not hate? Maybe I was watching the wrong channel?

    2. Oh yes Mr Trump I see you are showing unity, we'll maybe not? President-elect Trump how are you showing unity by hiring White Nationalist chief strategist Steven Bannon who will be sitting on your shoulder whispering in your ear?

While I am not against people voting for a third party, I do think this election was different than those in the past. We knew outright that this election would be an election that the winner sent a supreme court nominee to the bench.
I do think most 3rd party voters would rather have a more middle of the road/liberal leaning justice than not.
While I do think there was election fraud by Russia involved if only the 3rd party voters would have leaned left I doubt that many votes would have been tampered with.
Now we are stuck with tRump.
Can I survive? Yes, I have enough of a retirement plan that doesn't involve or it's stock market.

  18. Sorry but there were Five presidential tickets on my ballot plus write in.

It is unfair and un-AMERICAN to single out Stein and Johnson, and McMullin for that matter, as being spoilers. They have a right to run. Anyone has a right to run.

There is no mandate that we are only a two party country. Nor is there a mandate that you either have to vote for the Democrat or the Republican. Or vote at all.

There is also no guarantee that the votes that went to Johnson, Stein and the others would have gone to Hillary. If they split the vote, Hillary would still lose. If Stein's votes went to Hillary and Johnson's went to Trump, she'd still lose. Because it's the electoral college.

In fact, if all of Johnson's went to Trump she would have lost the popular vote too.

Trump did not win because of the third party candidates and Hillary did not lose because of them. There have always been third party candidates. We've had Libertarians and Green Party for years. My ballot also included Peace and Freedom and three write ins, Evan McMullin being one of them. In my county he got more votes than the Peace and Freedom candidate. I think my Mother, the Republican, voted for him.

The 3rd party bitching is the funniest part of Gryphen's repetitive and not very well thought out Argument.

As you said, if all of Johnson's votes went to the Republican ticket, and all Stein's votes went to Hillary, Hillary would have lost both the Electoral AND the popular vote. And that is the reality.

Something to think about when you are whining about Hillary's popular vote count. The majority popular vote in the country, voted the right side of the isle, and that is the reality.

All of you keep talking as if all of Johnson's votes would have gone to Trump. He was socially liberal and so was his running mate. They appealed to a whole lot of Dems. Johnson's votes would have split between Hillary and Trump--and I believe more would have gone to Hillary than Trump--and almost all of Stein's would have gone to Hillary. And this would have ensured a Hillary victory. Period.

12:53 you have have zero idea what you are talking about. Libertarians are republicans that are both financially conservative and the true social conservatives. They don't want government involved in either the right OR left social matters.

However there are few Libertarians that would ever ever vote Democrat, and certainly not big government Hillary Democrat.

  20. You really have to go back to the state level to see if the votes for third party candidates would make a difference. Most of Clinton's popular vote margin came from CA where third party votes would make no difference.

My young hairdresser whom I like very much told me that she had voted third party. She sounded somewhat abashed when she said it.

Well, she should have thought about the consequences. I talked to her about politics a bit when I saw her in late October and told her that Hillary Clinton was not the "evil one" portrayed on Fox News and in much of the news media. I told her to look at what HRC was proposing because it all made sense and would be helpful to young adults as well as older folks. Well, I guess she didn't.

Last week when I saw her, I also told her about my personal concerns about Social Security, Medicare, Obamacare and Medicaid under the incoming administration. Like many people my hairdresser had never put it all together and didn't know that the GOP now held all the power and that the programs mentioned above were just live targets for them. Health care will be an issue for her because she is single, has ongoing health concerns and could lose her insurance. In the end, she is much like the folks in Kentucky who had never thought about repercussions of foolish voting.

  24. Stein and Johnson voters cost Hillary the election? Get over yourself.

How about this. There were 146,311,000 registered voters this election but only 129,235,000 voted. That means over 17,000,000 registered voters didn't vote. Also there were 218,959,000 Americans eligible to vote this election but only 146,311,000 bothered to get registered and only 129,235,000 bothered to vote. That means 72,648,000 didn't bother to get registered, and a grand total of 89,724,000 of eligible voters didn't vote. So maybe they had a little something to do with Hillary's loss. Or maybe Hillary is part of a system that has gotten so screwed up, that people don't believe their vote matters any more.

But to blame it on people who bothered to register and to vote is just plain ludicrous. An election is meant to be a free expression of your support. It's not about bullying people into voting for your favored candidate or against your perceived villain.

Hell, even if those (just shy of six million who cast votes for Johnson and Stein had voted for Hillary or Trump instead of one of the third party candidates, there is no guarantee it would have changed the results. If percentages stayed the same as the bulk of the votes, Trump may have still won in the electoral college. Depends on which states those votes were cast in. You are just assuming they would have all gone to Hillary and it would have changed the outcome. But a lot of those third party votes were made by people who couldn't stomach voting for Hillary in the first place. Otherwise, they would have.

Again, it says a lot about how poor of a candidate Hillary really was that Trump was even in the race. Hillary certainly didn't inspire all of those eligible voters to come out and support her. That's on her. She just expected a coronation, not an election.

We'll never know for sure, but I won't use that as an easy reason to say that Hillary lost because she was a bad candidate. There are facts that shows how Stein and Johnson affected the race. Sure Hillary wasn't perfect, but there was so many bizarre things coming at her all year long and these are what made sure that she didn't win. Add Johnson and Stein to that.
