Leading Senate Republicans are preparing a wide ranging probe into Russia's interference with our election. Oh Comrade Trump will NOT like this!

Courtesy of the Washington Post:

Leading Senate Republicans are preparing to launch a coordinated and wide-ranging probe into Russia’s alleged meddling in the U.S. elections and its potential cyberthreats to the military, digging deep into what they view as corrosive interference in the nation’s institutions.

Such an aggressive approach puts them on a direct collision course with President-elect Donald Trump, who downplays the possibility Russia had any role in the November elections — arguing that a hack of the Democratic National Committee emails may have been perpetrated by “some guy in his home in New Jersey.” The fracture could become more prominent after Trump is inaugurated and begins setting foreign policy. He has already indicated that the country should “get along” with Russia since the two nations have many common strategic goals.

But some of Trump’s would-be Republican allies on Capitol Hill disagree. Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman John McCain (Ariz.) is readying a probe of possible Russian cyber-incursions into U.S. weapons systems, and he said he has been discussing the issue with Senate Select Intelligence Committee Chairman Richard Burr (N.C.), with whom he will be “working closely” to investigate Russia’s suspected interference in the U.S. elections and cyberthreats to the military and other institutions.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has been apprised of the discussions. Burr did not respond to requests for comment. Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) also said he intends to hold hearings next year into alleged Russian hacking. Corker is on Trump’s shortlist for secretary of state, according to the Trump transition team.

If, and I have some doubts about this, but IF these Republicans are serious about investigating this meddling by Russia, that may signify that they are growing a backbone and will not roll over for all of Trump's lunatic policy ideas.

However I am also quite aware that these guys are almost solely motivated by the possibility of winning or losing reelection, so unless they get a significant amount of support from the American people, and more importantly their constituents, I am not very confident that they will pursue this as aggressively as it deserves.

But I am willing to maintain an open mind.

Because let's face it, SOMEBODY needs to do something about this and make sure it never happens again.

Don the Con is all about retaliation...so what goes around comes around ten times over. So, pile it on the adult children. Tiff Trump just was the result of her Mom's best sex ever bang up. The three older ones are fair game by gaming the system just like deaar old daddy grabber. Barron seems to have a life that is really barren of fun and warmth. We need to wait and see if he is already suited up to be like his dad and what it will be like to cut the Trump "neck" ties with his mom. Conflicts of interest on numerous fronts.

"The transition team has asked the agency to list employees and contractors who attended United Nations climate meetings, along with those who helped develop the Obama administration’s social cost of carbon metrics, used to estimate and justify the climate benefits of new rules. The advisers are also seeking information on agency loan programs, research activities and the basis for its statistics, according to a five-page internal document circulated by the Energy Department on Wednesday. The document lays out 65 questions from the Trump transition team, sources within the agency said."

Unless this is a routine and customary request to agencies by transition teams, I say the agency should tell the transition team to do their own damn research. It will at least slow down the harassment, unwarranted firings, and stupid dismissal of everyone in the agency with smarts, experience, and education.

Let the trump misadministration destroy the agency on their own dime and time.

  7. Trump make $12 million running for President.

Wonder how much he figures to make AS President.

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/trump-businesses-campaign-fec_us_584a32f6e4b04c8e2baf31e6

" Donald Trump’s presidential campaign sent Donald Trump’s businesses $2.9 million in the final days prior to and the weeks following his election.

Trump’s Miami golf club, where he staged an Oct. 25 news conference to showcase his employees who like him, received $13,015. Trump’s hotel in Las Vegas received $176,933 for lodgings from his presidential campaign and $60,442 more from a joint fundraising committee for Trump and the Republican National Committee.

Trump Tower in Manhattan, meanwhile, received a whopping $462,011 in rent, including $283,500 on Nov. 28 – nearly $114,000 more than the campaign had been paying for its headquarters space for the previous several months.

The president-elect’s transition team did not respond to a Huffington Post query regarding the higher rent payment.

The figures are contained in new filings Thursday night by the campaign and related committees with the Federal Election Commission. The filings cover the six weeks from Oct. 20 to Nov. 28

The burst of spending brings to more than $12 million the total Trump has funneled back to his businesses since the start of the campaign. It continues his pattern of choosing to spend donors’ money at his own properties for events and on his own airplane for travel, even though it meant spending considerably more than comparable alternatives."

After Darkness Fell, Republicans Unveiled Their Sinister Plan To Dismantle Social Security

...In other words, the legislation does exactly what Trump and the Republicans promised not to do. It cuts Social Security. However, the bill is even more sinister than a plan cut, because it attacks the fundamental basis of the entire program. The raising of the retirement age and the cutting of benefits opens the door to Social Security being reshaped from a retirement program for all to a program for older Americans while everyone else has their retirement privatized.

No American Is Safe from Trump’s Wrecking Crew Cabinet

Dastardly Donald has either found or was “directed” to find, people that want specific federal regulatory and protective agencies completely eliminated. Trump has signaled they will be tasked with running the agencies into the ground according to their particular bent, but one thing is crystal clear; every American citizen currently alive will be adversely affected by Dirty Don’s appointees regardless of age, gender or sexual orientation. Of course the filthy rich will be spared, but even the fanatically-religious evangelicals will feel the nasty effects of a government void of protections for the citizenry.

It is difficult to imagine exactly which agencies are likely to fare the worst in Trump’s America because they are all targets of the Koch brothers who have made no secret they have wanted them eliminated for over thirty years. Now, according to Trump’s selection of sworn enemies of the agencies they hope to lead (to extinction), the Kochs will get their demands fulfilled and there is nothing anyone, save the Electoral College, can do to stop them.

Robert Reich: Trump is already abusing his power and acting like a two-bit dictator

...No President or President-elect in history has ever before publicly condemned individual citizens for criticizing him. That occurs in two-bit dictatorships intent on stamping out dissent.

No President or President-elect has ever before bypassed the media and spoken directly to large numbers of his followers in order to disparage individual citizens who criticize him. That occurred in the fascist rallies of the 1930s.

America came closest to this in the 1950s when Senator Joseph McCarthy wrecked the lives of thousands of American citizens whom he arbitrarily and carelessly claimed were communists.

McCarthy’s reign of terror ended when a single man asked him publicly, during the televised hearings McCarthy was conducting, “have you no decency, sir?” In that moment, Americans began to see McCarthy for the tyrant he was.

McCarthy’s assistant was Roy Cohn, an attorney who perfected the art of character assassination. Roy Cohn was also one of Donald J. Trump’s mentors.

    Huffington Post:
Michael Moore Is Begging Donald Trump To Attend Security Briefings

“This is our country. This is our security. This is our safety.”

Michael Moore is begging President-elect Donald Trump: “Do your job.”

The filmmaker took a moment on Wednesday’s “Late Night” with Seth Meyers to implore the president-elect to “pay attention,” citing reports that Trump has attended only three of the daily security briefings that he has been offered since he won the election....

Moore looked directly into the camera to deliver his plea.

“With all due respect, Mr. president-elect, on our behalf, you have to pay attention. You have to attend these briefings,” Moore said. “This is our country. This is our security. This is our safety. You are horsing around with all this nonsense and you are not doing your number one job. And the number one job of the president is to make sure the country is safe.”....

First of all, I don't think that Donald Trump could understand a word that was being said to him about national security. His lack of knowledge about history, both US and world, is likely to be, paraphrasing Trump himself, "yuuuge." Secondly, I think he believes that Putin will provide all of the national security we could possibly need. This country will be going down the tubes really fast unless the Electoral College does its duty and rejects Trump because he represents too great a danger to the American people.

Tracking the explosion of hate in Trump’s America

On November 8, 2016, Donald Trump was elected president. Within hours, the United States was awash in an unprecedented wave of hateful incidents, many of them perpetrated by people claiming to be Trump supporters.

Various forms of hatred surged during Trump’s campaign — especially Islamophobia, anti-Semitism, and general support for white supremacy. But his election appears to have emboldened vitriol of all kinds, triggering a rash of harrowing — and sometimes violent — incidents that has left many Americans afraid. Just one week out from Election Day, the Southern Poverty Law Center counted more than 300 reports of hate incidents, with more pouring in every day. One week later, their tally breached 700.

The fact that the president-elect takes time away from the huge job of assembling a transition team and appointing a new Cabinet to watch Alec Baldwin’s caricature of him on “Saturday Night Live” and then tweet about it is a testament to Trump’s fragility. That is why his opponents must hit hard at that vulnerability as much as possible, just as Danielle Muscato did when she fired off a marvelous series of tweets in response, calling Trump out: “In 7 wks you’ll be responsible for 330m lives & you can’t think of anything better to do than tweet abt a comedy show. You know that actual lives are at stake, right? You’re pathetic.” Muscato’s riposte was a salve for those of us seeing an unending stream of bad news flowing from Washington these days.

Congress Introduces Legislation To Destroy Social Security

Sam Johnson, who is chair of the House Ways & Means Committee, has introduced legislation which is an amalgam of prior Republican efforts to kill Social Security. It raises retirement ages, cuts benefits, and gives really big tax cuts to wealthy people. You can read a very wonky letter from the Social Security Administration actuary here.

Details: Retirement age would be raised from 67 to 69 on Americans 49 or younger at the present. The formula to determine the initial payment amount would change. Chained CPI will be used to determine the cost-of-living allowances. It also provides for means-testing benefits, which will undermines the entire program, turning it into a welfare program for old and disabled people.

These cuts dig deep into the pockets of the poor and middle class beneficiaries of Social Security, now and in the future, in order to deliver really big tax breaks to less than 1 percent of the people in this country, further increasing income inequality and pushing more of the middle class into poverty. Billionaires like the ones in Trump's cabinet will rejoice, however, because they'll get a nice big fat tax cut as their reward for pushing these cuts.

You know, when Hillary Clinton and President Obama warned that we had everything to lose, they weren't kidding around. Between Trump's disastrous choice to put global warming deniers on the cabinet and surround himself with Goldman Sachs executives, he is signaling his promise to make the wealthy wealthier, while allowing us to lose everything.

Trump’s Carrier Deal Is A Complete Scam

... One thing was clear even on Dec. 1, when Trump made his announcement on the scene, and has become even clearer with every day that passes: This deal is a scam. It isn't saving nearly as many jobs as the 1,100 Trump claimed, it's costing taxpayers a bundle, and it's no template for any job-preservation policy that Trump might consider.

In the most recent development, Chuck Jones, the president of the Carrier workers' union, told the Washington Post Tuesday about his reaction when Trump failed to disclose something his local already had been told — that the saved jobs numbered not 1,100, but only 730.

"He got up there," Jones said, "and, for whatever reason, lied his ass off."

Get used to it, Mr. Jones.

Trump Calls The CIA Liars After His Secret Russian Relationship Gets Exposed

Donald Trump's transition team released a statement in response to the CIA report that Russia interfered in the presidential election to help the GOP nominee where they strongly suggested that the CIA is lying.

The president-elect has been skipping his intelligence briefings, and now appears to be in a state of open war with the CIA. The problem for Trump is that it isn’t only the CIA who made this claim. Seventeen intelligence agencies believe that Russia interfered in the presidential election.

Seventeen intelligence agencies aren’t all lying. Trump had obvious connections to Russia throughout the presidential campaign. Someone is definitely not telling the truth, and the evidence points to the Donald Trump as the man behind the cover-up of the Russian assist that he got in the
    presidential election.

  49. We *should* be skeptical.
The Republicans are taking lead on this investigation so they can control where it goes and control the fallout. Finding out the truth is low on the list of priorities.

McConnell Covered Up CIA Reports That Russian Hacks Were Aimed At Electing Trump

...Shall we take a moment to allow that to sink in? Mitch McConnell, Senate Majority Leader, sworn to uphold and defend the United States Constitution, chose to threaten the White House with a smear if they disclosed this information to the American people.

What happened to defending against enemies, domestic and foreign, Senator McConnell? Is this treason?

What makes this really interesting is what we can see in the rear view mirror. The Trump campaign fought tooth and nail to end the Michigan recount, in a state where there is some evidence seals were broken on voting machines there.

We don't know if malware was installed on those machines. We do know many machines in Detroit malfunctioned on Election Day, however. But what we don't know is how that impacted the final counts in Michigan, mostly because they ended the recount.

Update, 11:48 p.m.: The New York Times reports that American intelligence officials found with "high confidence" that Russians also hacked the Republican National Committee, but did not release any information. Based in part on this finding, intelligence officials were able to conclude that Russia intended to harm Hillary Clinton's campaign and bolster Donald Trump's.
