New York Times executive editor says that Donald Trump is the best thing to happen for their bottom line.

Courtesy of The Hill:

The executive editor of the New York Times said in an interview Sunday that President Trump’s attempts to smear the publication have instead encouraged more people to read it.

“Trump is the best thing to happen to the Times’ subscription strategy,” Dean Baquet said in an interview with CNN’s "Reliable Sources." “Every time he tweets it drives subscriptions wildly.”

Baquet said Trump has revitalized reporters who may have been pessimistic about the future of the industry.

"There was a long time when the press wondered about its place in society, the last several years as newspaper subscriptions dwindled, as particularly local newspapers worried about their future," he said. "What’s happened in the last couple of months I have to say has been tremendous for news organizations."

"Our mission is clearer than it's ever been — we’re covering a dramatic revolution in government and how the country is governed, and it feels like all of the things that sort of bothered us and made us lose a little bit of confidence in the last few months have sort of gone away."

And the more attacks Trump lobs their way the more subscriptions they sell.

I have one, do you?

I have to admit however that while I certainly embrace the resurgence of quality journalism in this country, I am also troubled by the fact that it was a similar upsurge in viewers that compelled cable news outlets to put Donald Trump's big orange face in front of its audiences almost 24/7 for months leading up to the election.

I cannot help but think this is a case of the cable news media creating a Frankenstein monster and then leaving it to the print media to destroy it for the benefit of humanity.

I don't have any subscriptions but get a variety of news feeds on my iPhone.

What is only available through subscription usually ends up being posted on web news re-posts of news such as here and nomadic politics and a few other sites I visit.

Thanks to all of you for sharing your subscription content!

The Washington Post subscription on-line is, I think, 99 cents a month. If you don't subscribe, you can still look at 5 stories a month.

I have been thinking about prescribing for a while now. I am to much of an environmentalist to prescribe to a print edition that I might not read. And I broke my Kindle. Maybe it is time to get the Kindle replaced. Does NYT come in Kindle edition?

Not sure about the Kindle edition, but you can read it online with a subscription. That might be the way to go for you.

So the only ones losing on dictator’s trump term are the American taxpayers.

At least the media (CBS) has picked up on how much security is costing us. Of course the WH did not rely to their request for answers, are the boys going to pay back $$?

Also adult children security is optional. Ronnie Regan Jr. opted out.

Trump Just Sold a $15.8 Million Condo to a Consultant Who Peddles Access to Powerful People

Meet the new owner of a Trump Park Avenue penthouse.

Last week, Donald Trump's company sealed its first big post-inaugural real estate transaction, selling a $15.8 million penthouse to a Chinese-American business executive who runs a company that touts its ability to exploit connections with powerful people to broker business deals in China.

New York City property records show that Xiao Yan Chen, the founder and managing director of a business consulting firm called Global Alliance Associates, purchased the four-bedroom, six-bathroom condo in Trump's Park Avenue high-rise on February 21.

Before taking office, Trump signed documents removing himself from the board of directors of Trump Park Avenue LLC, the entity that sold the unit, but he remains the LLC's owner.

Chen, who also goes by Angela Chen, did not return multiple calls and emails requesting comment. Her company bills itself as a "boutique business relationship consultancy" for US firms seeking to do business in China. "For a select clientele," the firm says that it "facilitates the right strategic relationships with the most prominent public and private decision makers in China."

According to Zillow.com, the penthouse unit Chen purchased last week has an estimated value of $14.3 million......

The Drumpf White House kicks out the media it doesn't want at pressers, and now it kicks out the governors it doesn't want at pressers. I thought the White House was the people's house:

This slimeball was just on the news tonight saying he knows there is nothing to investigate. Now how would he know that if he hasn’t investigated?

Also he is one of the guys calling people (FBI, CIA?) on behalf of the WH, asking not to investigate.

GOP Intel chair Burr under fire over ties to Trump

The senator running the Russia probe was a vocal Trump campaign backer, once boasting he sicced the FBI on Hillary Clinton.

On the campaign trail last fall, GOP Sen. Richard Burr told North Carolina voters there was no "separation” between himself and Donald Trump. The Senate Intelligence Committee chairman also bragged about his role in getting the FBI to investigate Hillary Clinton’s emails.

Now, the third-term senator is under fire for running interference for the White House last week on a news report asserting repeated contacts between Trump’s campaign and Moscow. And some Democrats are wondering whether Burr, who also served as a national security adviser to Trump’s campaign, is too close to Trump to lead an impartial investigation.

... Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said Monday that Burr had been put “on notice” by Democrats and that his decision to help the White House rebut negative news stories "certainly gives the appearance, if not the reality, of a lack of impartiality." Sen. Mark Warner of Virginia, the top Democrat on the Intelligence Committee, said over the weekend he had “grave concerns” about Burr’s conduct.....

... "I'm cozy to Donald Trump because I know Hillary Clinton,” he said at the rally, according to video from the Democratic opposition research group American Bridge.
Burr also drew attention just before Election Day after a recording was leaked to CNN of him joking to Republican campaign volunteers about gun owners putting a "bullseye" on Clinton — remarks for which he apologized.

In the recording, he also discussed the investigation into Clinton’s emails — saying a letter by him and Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) was what got the FBI to investigate Clinton in the first place.

“I’ll tell you a little secret,” he said. “The FBI never would have investigated the emails had it not been for a letter that Bob Corker and I sent to the inspector general of the intelligence community that kicked this all off.”

FBI Director James Comey’s decision to re-open the investigation less than two weeks before Election Day was a “gift,” Burr said, before calling Anthony Weiner “the gift that keeps on giving.”.....

That's an unfortunate thing for a NYT executive to say. It may explain why the newspaper, which considers itself to be a bellwether of information, decided in October to pursue Comey's fake email attack on Hillary Clinton rather than the very real connections between the Trump campaign and Putin's Russia. It sounds as if the people running the NYT think that having Trump in the White House is just so much fun. Someone should tell then that it's not fun, it's a disaster that will only get worse.
