Dick Cheney thinks that Russian meddling in our election could be an act of war. And I agree with him.

Courtesy of Business Insider:

In a wide-ranging speech at the Economic Times' Global Business Summit on Monday, former US Vice President Dick Cheney spoke unequivocally about Russia's meddling in the 2016 US presidential election.

......

"There's no question that there was a very serious effort made by Mr. Putin and his government, his organization, to interfere in major ways with our basic fundamental democratic processes," Cheney said.

"In some quarters, that could be considered an act of war. "I would not underestimate the weight that we as Americans assign to Russian attempts to interfere with our process," Cheney concluded.

Now I think we all know that Dick Cheney is a warmonger's warmonger, and would likely start World War 3 over somebody taking his parking place, but he is not wrong here.

Now I am not suggesting that we need to start bombing Moscow, but I am suggesting that America's policy toward Russia be one of dealing with a hostile nation bent on undermining our democracy.

Trump's talk of unilaterally working to improve our relationship with Russia should be seen as treasonous in light of what they did during the 2016 election.

Before we can start rebuilding any kind of trust with Russia we need to first punish them for what they did in 2016 by issuing the kinds of sanctions that will make the people rise up against Putin and retake their country from the oligarchs who are oppressing them and stealing their wealth.

That is the kind of financial warfare which seems appropriate here.

And in fact we are already starting to see those protests taking place.

Now if you will excuse me I have to wash my mind out with soap for agreeing with Dick "Shot him right in the face" Cheney.

Trump wants to cut $1.2 billion from medical research ASAP. That’s only the beginning.
The cuts come amid proposed increases in defense spending.

President Donald Trump’s budget blueprint for 2018 proposed a series of devastating cuts to health research funding and public health programs.

But it seems that assault on medical science and health could be starting much sooner.

According to media reports out today, the Trump White House is proposing to slash $1.2 billion from research grants at the National Institutes of Health and other health and education programs this year.

The $18 billion in total cuts from discretionary spending bills is reportedly offsetting the $30 billion in supplementary increases in defense spending, and spending on the border wall with Mexico (though it’s not entirely clear that the wall will be part of the supplemental defense budget).

...So basically: The Trump White House is ditching investments that would bolster scientific knowledge and health to try to wall off Mexico and marginally increase a defense budget that already outstrips just about every other country on the planet.

Those with a disease that has no cure (I'm one of them!) need to make sure they fight anyone that supports Trump in this matter.

Trump, his cabinet and fellow Republicans throughout the country are not supporting Americans in any way! God, but they are horrible people. Pure evil!

      Delete
    2. Trump can try whatever he wants.

But he doesn't do the budget.

      The House does.

I think he'll find the House will change his budget for the same reason his healthcare was defeated.

As much as the GOP talks a good game about self reliance, and getting rid of entitlements and the social safety nets, they know if they do, their constituents who rely on those entitlements will vote them out of office in 2018.

The Senate only approves the budget but they're allowed to tweak it a bit as it pertains to law. They'll be up for re-election in 2018, 2020 and 2022.

If they ask their constituents if they want all of their tax money going to the military industrial privateers and the stupid wall, I think they won't like the answer.

This GOP is like the dog that caught the car. They've got majorities in both houses, plus a Republican President and they don't know what to do.

They don't know how to govern, only obstruct.

WH, Kremlin Not On Same Page About Why Kushner Met With Russian Bank CEO

Did Jared Kushner’s recently disclosed meeting during the Trump transition with the head of a Russian state-owned bank concern business or politics? Depends who you ask.

All participating parties agree that Kushner, President Donald Trump’s son-in-law and a senior White House adviser, spoke with Sergey N. Gorkov, CEO of Vnesheconombank and close ally of President Vladimir Putin.

While the bank and the Kremlin said Kushner held the talks in his capacity as the head of his family’s real estate empire, Kushner Companies, the Trump administration struck a different note, saying Kushner was acting as a campaign surrogate at the time.

In a Tuesday statement to Reuters, Vnesheconombank, which was sanctioned under the Obama administration, said that executives held roadshow meetings “with a number of representatives of the largest banks and business establishments of the United States, including Jared Kushner, the head of Kushner Companies.”

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov also played down the meeting, telling the Associated Press that “it was ordinary business,” and that the Kremlin was unaware of the meeting before it occurred.

Mitch McConnell Joins Trump Cover-Up By Refusing To Appoint Independent Russia Investigation

...McConnell was asked why he would not support an independent investigation.

The Senate Majority Leader answered, “Because it’s not necessary. Chairman Burr and Senator Warner are working together well. The Senate Intelligence Committee I trust and our colleagues trust to follow every lead. To come up at some point with a report. I hope it will be on a bipartisan basis, and we’ll find out exactly what happened.”

With the House Intelligence Committee being sabotaged by the chairmanship of Trump transition official Devin Nunes, the American people can’t afford to “hope” that the Senate Intelligence Committee can come up with a bipartisan report.

An independent investigation has become essential to finding out the truth. If Mitch McConnell refuses to report an independent committee to investigate the Trump/Russia scandal, he is helping the President cover-up the facts.

This isn’t the first time that McConnell has helped Trump on Russia. Before Election Day, McConnell was informed about Russian election meddling, but instead of standing up for democracy and his country, the Senate Majority Leader refused to issue a joint statement with President Obama condemning Russia’s activities.

Anyone who stands in the way of getting to the truth is aiding Donald Trump.

David Frum explains in one perfect tweet how a Republican cover-up of Trump/Putin ties works

When the Speaker of the House strongly defends Devin Nunes, this confirms the cover-up of Trump/Putin ties is coordinated at the highest levels in the Republican Party.

The majority of the Republican party is choosing their undying fealty to Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin over our Constitution. The Republican cover-up machine is in high gear.

David Frum hits the nail on head in his tweet.

'Nunes protects Trump. Ryan protects Nunes.'

Nunes was asked by a Fox News reporter if he will ever reveal his source. He answered, “We will never reveal our sources and methods.” He was asked if he would reveal his source to his own committee, and he answered, “Nope. Never.”

Rep. Nunes is making the wrong decision with each question that is asked. It is almost like he is trying to make the Russia scandal bigger with an endless series of bad decisions. Nunes should share the source of his information with his own committee, or else it will not be able to carry out a credible investigation. Every time that Devin Nunes gets in front of a television camera, the Russia scandal gets worse for Donald Trump.

Nunes thought that he was protecting Trump by engaging in the cover-up, but he has created problems for the administration by carrying out his cover-up in such a bumbling fashion. Nunes isn’t saving the Trump presidency. He’s destroying it.

Yup. They are all now complicit in the treasonous behavior that began fairly early in the presidential campaign, before the GOP nominated Trump. The party had the chance then to expose what was going on but, in their fervor to do in Hillary Clinton, they chose to tarnish every Republican with the tar of treason. Now the rest of us will pay the price for Trump's handing the country over to Putin.

Trump’s VOICE Proposal Is Literally Nazi Propaganda

President Donald Trump is very literally recreating German Nazi tactics in his quest to attack undocumented immigrants. I cannot be more serious about this. Donald Trump is using the exact same tactics the Nazi party used in the 1930s and 40s to criminalize Jews and make the German people fear and suspect them.

In the era of Nazi Germany, Adolf Hitler began documenting Jewish crimes as part of his effort to scapegoat the Jews and make a nation that already felt negatively towards Jews become willing to turn a blind eye to their genocide. In the pro-Nazi magazine Der Stürmer, a list of crimes Jewish people have committed, including any crime ranging from violent to petty, was published monthly under the headline “The Jewish Criminal.” When Nazis took power, they began modeling it exactly as part of their campaign. It’s disturbing stuff. Apparently Trump has chosen to model it.

Trump began the VOICE program - Victims of Immigration Crime Engagement Office - early this March (even the name is propaganda - victims of “immigration crime?”). Beginning this Monday, the office has begun publishing a national list of the crimes undocumented immigrants commit.

Recently I watched a stunning BBC documentary filmed in Russia by BBC reporters that reveal some of the measures Putin is behind inside their state run organs

The surprising facts are that Putin, in spite of being a communist is now pushing a literal religious fascism, based on the Russian orthodox church.

That movement displays the same kind of religious fanaticism, homophobic, anti-abortion fervor as their American counterparts in the hard right evangelical community.

    Quote:
The segment cover the most prolific parents having 7 or more kids and investigates a wave of intolerance sweeping the country.

The resurgent Russian Orthodox Church is at the forefront of a new movement combining religion and nationalism.
President Putin is promoting: family, God and country. And in Moscow the team investigates the darker side of this resurgent religion and nationalism: a wave of intolerance.
The program covers Konstantin Malofeev, a millionaire banker with Kremlin connections and the founder of new television station Tsargrad TV, which broadcasts nationalist material and features anti-abortion and homophobic speakers.

    The segment is called:
    "Unreported world-Putin's Family Values"

For those of you in the UK You can probably get this via podcast from CH 4. I did find one torrent of that on extratorrent for those of you who know how to download.
