Secret Service requests 60 million more dollars to protect Donald Trump and his family.

Courtesy of the Washington Post:

The U.S. Secret Service requested $60 million in additional funding for the next year, offering the most precise estimate yet of the escalating costs for travel and protection resulting from the unusually complicated lifestyle of the Trump family, according to internal agency documents reviewed by The Washington Post.

Nearly half of the additional money, $26.8 million, would pay to protect President Trump’s family and private home in New York’s Trump Tower, the documents show, while $33 million would be spent on travel costs incurred by “the president, vice president and other visiting heads of state.”

The documents, part of the Secret Service’s request for the fiscal 2018 budget, reflect the costly surprise facing Secret Service agents tasked with guarding the president’s large and far-flung family, accommodating their ambitious travel schedules and fortifying the three-floor Manhattan penthouse where first lady Melania Trump and son Barron live.

Trump has spent most of his weekends since the inauguration at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, and his sons have traveled the world to promote Trump properties with Secret Service agents in tow.

I know what we are all thinking but let's not make any comments which could be misconstrued as threats on this blog.

Having said that I really think this is money that could be better spent elsewhere.

ANYWHERE in fact.

I thought the SS already got turned down on this request.

    1. Yes, they did.

Now they're looking at cutting everything else they do just to provide Trump with is golfing weekends.

It would be more beneficial if US magazine published the cost of the Trumps living apart and the xtravagant cost to citizens for their refusal to respect limits and roles of the presidency including a budget for travel. It costs the county of Palm Beach $60,000 per weekend in overtime for each weekend at Mar a Lago. Meanwhile the Trumps continue to profit at the expense of others.

I heard the estimates were $1 million per day. However, I suspect she will not be moving to the White House this summer or anytime in the near future. Not that I can blame her. Ewwwww

Considering the current Mrs. Trump has a one time chance of 300 million no chance to represent the USA as First Lady...I conclude neither of them fucking care! What a message for their son that he is above the role of. First Lady costing citizens 500K to one million dollars a day. They might as well say Let them eat cake!"

    3. Trump's golfing weekends and Melanoma's Tower residency will cost the American taxpayer's about $520 MILLION a YEAR!. That doesn't include what New York and Palm Beach have to pay or the building of that helipad at Mar-a-Lagofuckyourself.

Trump doesn't give a shit. He's president and you're not. He wants to maintain the lifestyle of a DESPOT and there is no law that can stop him.

So much for fiscal conservatives. The GOP is the party of fucking hypocrites.

I'm not so sure that adult children of a president should require Secret Service protection. It's one thing for minors or children in college but beyond that . . . . Trump's grown kids are busy traveling the world for leisure and so-called work which is nothing but promotion of their brand.

The adult children can choose to decline protection. One of Reagan's did. But I bet trump's kids love the free bodyguards.

The Aspen Times had an article about 12k or so in ski rental equipment charged to a Secret Service "secret" contractor. This was for Secret Service guys protecting Ivanka, Jared, et all on the slopes. The lift tickets were extra.

Free skiing is a cool gig if you are a SS agent, but it's not cool for taxpayers.

This clown is willing to cut millions off of healthcare and many would die with Trumpcare. If he wants to cut costs his family should pay for their own security. Secret Service is expensive and there should be limits on its cost. Uday, Cusay, and the rest of the family can well afford their own security.

    And...

Fear Of Trump Costing Tourism Industry $11 Billion and 90,000 American Jobs

...Now the Trump has just ordered a new atrocity targeting business travelers and tourists that will just add to the monumental loss of tourism dollars due to the rest of the world being terrified of coming to America; even for a vacation, a business trip and even if the tourists are white Christians wanting to visit a sick relative, they are afraid to visit Trump’s America.

The latest move just reported amounts to “extreme vetting” that targets anyone applying for a visa to visit America whether it is to work, to attend business meetings, tourism or visiting sick family members. It is probably true that the Trump and his savage acolytes believe that anything Trump does to frighten the rest of the world is heroic, but it will cost America close to $11 billion and kill off roughly 90,000 jobs “by the end of the year.”

Why aren't SS agents called to testify on who, where, when, and what the president discusses with people?

Donald Trump Seems to Think He’s on ‘The Apprentice – White House Edition’

"Amazing what we're hearing from reporters...Trump treating the GOP members of congress like they're his employees."

It’s doubtful the new cover from the New York Post will do the trick, but it certainly gets the message across. Trump, on the other hand, actually seems to think people want the pile of garbage he’s selling as a healthcare plan:

Trump hasn’t quite figured out that the executive branch doesn’t get to order around the legislative branch: (or the Judicial)

"He thinks the way to “FIX” Obamacare is to deprive 24 million people of healthcare. That’s like clearing the sinuses with a 9 MM to the back of the head."

“I’m gonna come after you,” Trump half-jokingly warned Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.), the chairman of the conservative House Freedom Caucus. He later told House Republicans that “many of you will lose your seats” if the bill fails, members who were in the meeting told the Daily News."

I'd like to see a comparison (adjusted for inflation) of how much each family has cost. It's ridiculous that a billionaire gets to subsidize his families extravagant lifestyle with taxpayer money. And the guy is a disaster of a president, so you can't even claim that he's "worth it". At the end of his term, the CBC should lay out exactly how much Trump cost the country due to his trade wars, military build up, Secret Service, etc. The Republican party has not been the fiscally conservative party in a very long time, but this guy is a fiscal nightmare.

We should not be subsidizing dRUMPf's weekly vacations in any way. SS protection should be limited to ONLY at the WH, and on NECESSARY trips for the government. Otherwise his private security can handle it ALL. Neither NYC nor Fl police should be involved.

And definitely no subsidies for grown children when traveling on profit-seeking ventures. They should pay for their own security when on business, not rely on taxpayer subsidies.

I simply love this! 'Buy health insurance, which will not cover doctors visits or hospitalizations, and does not cover any health screenings for cancer and other diseases/ailments'! Question: WHAT GOOD is such an 'insurance' that covers NOTHING health related???

      Delete
    3. One wonders what is the point of having insurance if it doesn't cover anything?

Oh, and the states would have the option of requiring those on Medicaid to WORK.

There isn't a word disgusting enough to describe Paul Ryan and the GOP.

Right since many "on" Medicaid, like my mother, after a lifetime of working (she had to drop out of high school to work in the family's corner grocery store during the Depression, and worked the rest of her life until age 65.) They are on it because they are in the end stages of life, when Medicare coverage ends (only 100 days of rehabilitative care) or if a person isn't making rehab progress, something a bit hard to do when one has had a stroke as a side effect of cancer surgery, and the cancer comes back. Exactly what type of "job" does Ryan expect them to do? Flouncing around DC as a "job" seems to be one that would be easy enough.

Well here's a threat - and it's a legislative, thus very legal one. Reconciliation is easy, Congress which should be furious at T.rump for making them look like fools, should refuse to fund it. That's a hefty chunk of change the Conservatives could claim and give back to the American people for REAL needs, not T.RUmp's thin gold plated crap. I think I'll go suggest the same to my Congresscritters now. The put our money where your mouth is, not in T.Rumps fancy schmancy wife cage bill.

Security for adult children is optional; they should be paying for their own security on their business trips. They keep bragging how much money they are making, let them foot the bill.

Their security bills would cover PBS and Sesame Street several times over.
