House Republicans finally manage to pass Republican "health care" bill with 217 votes.

Courtesy of ABC News:

House Republicans have passed their ambitious plan to repeal and replace Obamacare, after several fits and starts, sending the measure to the Senate, where it is expected to be significantly revised.

The bill passed the House in a narrow 217-213 vote. All Democrats opposed the bill.

Democrats warned that the changes will leave Americans worse off.

“Make no mistake, many people will die as a result of this bill,” Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., said.

Republicans, who have been promising to repeal and replace Obamacare for seven years but have struggled to coalesce around a specific legislative proposal, said they planned on keeping their promise to constituents.

“Our constituents did not elect us to do what is easy. They elected us to do what is right,” Rep. Diane Black, R-Tenn., the chairwoman of the House Budget Committee, said on the floor.

And sadly the Republicans still failed to do what's right.

The New York Times laid out this bill's winners and losers.

Winners:
  • High income earners: You know, like the Trump family and friends.
  • Upper-middle-class people without pre-existing health conditions: Goes without saying.
  • Young, middle-class people without pre-existing health conditions: Yep.
  • People who wish to go without insurance: Unless of course they get injured or get a catastrophic illness that is.
  • People who want less comprehensive health coverage: Same response as above.
  • Large employers: Duh!
  • Medical device companies, indoor tanning companies and a few other medical industries: Well as long as we are helping those poor indoor tanning companies.
The Losers:
  • Poor people
  • Older Americans, in most states
  • People with pre-existing health conditions, particularly in some states
  • State governments
  • Hospitals
You know another group of losers are the Republicans who voted for this bill today.

And that's why the Democrats sang a little song for them after the bill passed:

The American Health Care Act just passed the House by the smallest possible margin, barely getting the 217 votes needed to pass. And as the bill passed, House Democrats began singing and waving goodbye to their Republican counterparts.

“Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey hey, goodbye!” they sang as voting finished.

It was a pretty remarkable act of trolling on the House floor, but one that illustrates just how divisive health care is as a political issue. Democrats are absolutely, positively sure that Thursday's vote will doom their more vulnerable Republican colleagues — and maybe then some.

The Democrats know full well that the chances of this bill getting through the Senate are slim and none, and Slim just left the building. (Sorry, that's one of my Dad's jokes.)

Currently this bill is not only disliked by the majority of the American people, but virtually every health care organization on the planet also opposes it.

Which includes, The American Medical Association, American Nurses Association, American College of Physicians, National Nurses United, National, Physicians Alliance, Association of American Physicians and Surgeons, and the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Like the Democrats said,  “Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey hey, goodbye!”

This should not be called a Health Care bill! This is truly a Go fuck you to American people. We need a catchy bumper sticker phrase like "death panels". Republicans only seem to be able to grasp ideas if they fit on a refrigerator magnet.

This is a bill that takes money from sick people and allows the GOP to fund their tax cuts for the rich. That's all it is. That ALL it is.

YOu know, I was just thinking about that - after all wilty peepees are just a natural fact of life - a consequence of God's plan that old men shouldn't be be able to have frequent sex, as they would father children they won't live to care for, or seek younger women to have more sex with instead of their appropriately aged spouses.

Which church will be the first to use the new religious freedom EO to NOT cover Viagra?

I wonder if Sarah Palin realizes that special ed funding will be affected by this bill. No more physical therapy, speech, occupational therapy. Maybe no teachers or assistants that are funded under medical care. I personally know several families with children's with special needs that will be affected by this.

This is so messed up. When would we ever concieve of a situation like we have now and let it slide into the norm.

This is going to take a fight because apparently Republicans are willing to declare it a victory. The question is how many Republicans are willing to sell their souls right now or toss it away for their future? How the hell far are they willing to go, by the looks of it really far.

      I know I have a preexisting illness/disease as I was diagnosed w/it 17 years ago.

To date, the majority of my financial monthly output is toward insurance premiums - with all of them having gone up each year. So far, I've been able to handle the situation and pay what is required of me over and above the insurance coverage - 80/20% when I've needed procedures, medications, operations, etc.

But, I fear what could be ahead of me w/Trump being our awful leader! I worry for those with cancer who have been winning their battle due to treatments received.

Trump is NOT representing Americans by any stretch of the imagination. He could care less about those sick, or knowing premiums for insurance are increasing (and will substantially), having allowable care under policies be decreased and allowing people/fellow Americans die a slow death.

Alaska Lawmaker Claims Women Get Abortions For ‘A Free Trip To The City’

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — A conservative state lawmaker has successfully tacked an anti-abortion message onto an otherwise innocuous resolution in the Alaska House aimed at raising awareness about sexual assault and child abuse.

The amendment from Republican Rep. David Eastman of Wasilla refers to abortion as “the ultimate form of child abuse.”

He said it would be wrong to discuss child abuse without mentioning abortion.
The amendment was approved by a divided House Rules Committee.

... “We have folks who try to get pregnant in this state so that they can get a free trip to the city, and we have folks who want to carry their baby past the point of being able to have an abortion in this state so that they can have a free trip to Seattle,” he said.
The Alaska Supreme Court has held that the state must fund medically necessary abortions if it funds medically necessary services for others with financial needs.

.... Eastman, who was elected last fall, has taken other provocative positions.

His was the lone no vote in the House on bills honoring Hmong and Lao veterans of the Vietnam War and the contribution of 4,000 black U.S. soldiers who endured harsh conditions while building the Alaska Highway during World War II. Eastman has said that one group should not be singled out because of race or heritage.

money helps but i remember the Vietnam war protests. Here is the point, even though i was fourteen at the time they had an impact.

We need a massive visual. how many times have you e mailed a Senator to get no reply.

The press loves visuals it's their news at "6" video. So give them their lead. It takes time out of your day but the crowd size can't be ignored. This is the most effective way to protest still after all these years.Spend your money on a plane ticket, show up on mass and take it to the sreets where there are cameras. Give them their sound bite and make it public.

You can use the press if enough of you gather. I am one voice but you time that by thousands in one place, at one point in time and you have a cacophony that will be heard.

When I write to my representative or to my senators, I always get a reply. The senators, both Democrats, provide very specific information, sometimes more than I can take in; the Republican representative provides only gibberish. It was from a Republican that I first learned years ago about the great GOP concern for the "unborn." Of course, he made no mention about providing for children once they are born and citizens and members of the human family.

Everyone has a pre-existing condition. And in that bill is mandatory genetic testing, and this will be used to declare that you have a pre-existing condition. Yep. if you don't think that you have a pre-existing condition think again. Will this bill demand hospitals and facilities turn away patients? Hospitals, Doctors and facilities will be paid less and absorb the unpaid debt.

The genetic testing the GOP is now so enamored of is intended to keep people from having insurance that they can remotely afford and also to cull potentially ill people from the workforce. They'll then be unemployed and ineligible for any insurance. Did this make it to the version of the bill passed by the House? It wouldn't surprise me if it did; no evil act on the part of the 21st century GOP ever surprises me. We no longer live in the country we once called home. It feels like we're in some dystopian state and no super hero is going to come to our rescue.

There is no decline in business in healthcare. People are diagnosed with serious condition every second of everyday. Disease/cancer does not discriminate Rich or Poor, gender, race, age it does not matter. Trump and family have a pre-existing condition already. Of course they are on the payroll for benefits. How very royal of trump.

Today this is what Trump said about Australia"Trump, speaking about the health care bill, even remarked that Australia has a superior health care system to that in the United States: "You have better health care than we do," he said." Australia has single payer.

Here is a list of preconditions. Note how many this will affect.

If you are young you will be fine. This hurts the elderly and the most vulnerable of our society. And what about the children, you know the ones that Republicans want to save.. only not on their dime . There is no compassion in this.

There are children BORN WITH pre-existing conditions: heart problems, brain damage, Down Syndrome, premise. You name it. They fill their 'lifelong' caps during their very first year.

Keep in mind that the House voted to exempt themselves and their families from the restrictions of the health care bill they passed. They will continue to be covered by the ACA, which they voted to repeal over 60 times when President Obama was in office. I am glad that the Democrats voted as a bloc against Trump's AHCA. Such abominable hypocrites our GOP representatives are!

You have to wonder what led to all of this.

We all thought this country was ready to accept a black President. We all thought we as a nation had moved forward and we became complacent. And out there seething were the rednecks and the stupid who voted for probably the first time in years.

This is what you get if you become too comfortable and think most of America is not stupid.Well a lot of them are but we don't need to take it! I want to see mass demonstrations, i want to see so much flack that it makes the news around the world.

We can sit an bitch all day but if we do not make our voices heard outside a blog who will listen?I for one am thankful for this blog don't get me wrong it gathers like minded people together.

I actually go to Breitbart and Right Scoop, Why? know thy enemy. And let me tell you Breitbart is even getting pissed at Trump.

We have a President that has the lowest approval rate of any President ever and we can't fight this shit?

Here's a true story. I don't know about other Va's in other cities but my husband goes to the VA in Saginaw MI. he is a Vietnam vet who has arthritis badly in his left foot, he came home from the Va with two new pairs of shoes for free, they measured his foot and gave him inserts and let him pick out the shoes. This was under Obama, Trump had nothing to do with this!

President Obama improved vets care and Trump acts like it is so horrible.

Trump has done nothing but lie to the American people since . . . forever. I was going to say since he entered politics but he's bragged about lying to get his way in business for years. Trump is the ultimate con artist and, unfortunately, we, the American people, are now his latest victims. It's unfortunate that the GOP has bought into his lies so completely just so they can wreak vengeance on the 44th President and on those of us who supported him.

Obama and Hillary worked to help Vets like few before them .Thanks to Hillary the death benefit for a soldier went from $10,000 to $150,000.All of the fucking assholes that knocked her have NO Idea what wonderful things she has done for this country that have helped literally millions of people.

Iam so enraged and disgusted today. There is a video on DU where showing fatass dumb fuck arriving in NYC. There are hundreds of protesters to greet him. You can hear one man screaming Die over and over again.I share his sentiment. They had to move dump trucks full of sand surrounding trump tower for his protection. Then the cowardly MFSOB didn't even go there. There were mobs of protesters waiting for him. Iam so ANGRY and there is nothing I can do.

I called and emailed my rep and he voted yes anyway I sent him an email saying shame on you and you have blood on your hands. I feel encouraged by the anger this has caused but if the Russians stole the election from HRC (and comey) who's to say they won't do it again. From all reports they are working in France against Macron.Hell putin gave her 10,000,000 Le Pen for the campaign. The Russians influenced Brexit and are insidiously involved in countries all over the world.

There is the Vanity Fair article (which he tried and failed to sue them)from the 90's where two of his top men said of fatso "there is the truth and trumps version of the truth. The other just said Donald Trumo is mentally ill. When the author told trump this fatso demanded to know who said it that he was going to fire them. The author refused to tell. His own mother said "what kind of a monster have i raised".IT's still available to read. He's been despicable forever. And now we are stuck with him and his cabal of incompetents.

Trump pandered to the extremes. He continues to do so. But it’s the middle that has pragmatically moved on.

This, this right here will be Donald Trump’s Waterloo.

It is impossible to make America great for these two opposites, because what each really wants is to take from the other.

Trump will have to choose. The only way forward for him is to sacrifice either the rich or the poor.

And he cannot make that decision.

    He can’t.

It’s impossible and he’s starting to realize it.

He wants to throw in with the mansions, like Reagan and Bush and his billionaire friends.

But he can’t abandon the shacks, because his ego needs their cheering more than his wallet needs the billionaires’ money, that’s what the rallies are all about. That’s why he daily contradicts himself—because he’s trying to tell each what they want to hear and those things are mutually incompatible.

And so he won’t choose. He can’t.

He’ll try to please both extremes and end up pleasing nobody.

Let this be a lesson, an opportunity, for those who would be president.

It’s not the edges that matter.

    It’s the middle.

  39. Just wait until the budget office comes in with their report this time.

The Republicans chose to give the wealthy tax cut instead of providing health care for millions. That's who they are. They own that. And they will not be allowed to forget it.

Seth Meyers did a fabulous job of rubbing Paul Ryan's nose in his hypocritical words. He contrasted Ryan's words over Obamacare with what he's done with this UnHealthy WeDon'tCare bill.

Additional "losers" in this version of GOP anti-health care are women. In the McArthur amendment victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, women who have been diagnosed with postpartum depression and women who have had C-sections are classified as "high risk" for the purposes of medical insurance pools. How many more women will decide not to get help after being abused domestically or sexually or if they've got postpartum depression? How many men will get away with abusing the women in their lives? How many families and infants will have to live with a seriously depressed woman who could have been helped but wasn't?

The GOP and right wing media have been spreading gross misinformation about how insurance works and has now worked for centuries (think Lloyds' of London and other companies that insured cargo vessels since the 1800's) so many younger adults fear having to pay more for insurance because it also helps other people who may need it more at the present. They do so by implying that ill health is always the result of bad behavior on the part of the sick person. It is the crassest, stupidest stunt tried yet by Republicans and conservatives to make all Americans distrustful of one another and more selfish than ever. You can see it in how people have reacted to Jimmy Kimmel's story about his infant son. Instead of wishing the family well and hoping for the best for them and others like them, a fairly large number of commenters on various sites have complained that they shouldn't have to pay more for medical insurance to pay for babies who are born with difficulties.

This is all from the political party that would ban abortion completely for "religious" reasons but that could care less about a child once born. A pox on the GOP!
