Large group of Notre Dame students walk out as Vice President Mike Pence begins his commencement speech.

Good for them!

I would have done the very same thing if I were in their shoes.

Mike Pence should NEVER be allowed to speak at an institute of higher learning.

That is an insult to the students, to the university, and to the American education system in general.

Study hard and probably graduate with a load of student debt. The least universities could do is allow the graduates to select their commencement speakers. Graduation Day - for graduates and their families, not some anti-science impediment to progress and education. True, President and Mrs. Obama cannot attend every graduation. But Joe Biden is available, too. j/k There are too many potentially great speakers available to settle for dimwit Dense.

John Lewis spoke at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in North Adams last weekend. They could have asked him, or a fine list of non-politicians who would be inspirational.
Pence was giving a political speech, which he should do on his own dime.

I agree that Mike Pence is not the right person to give a commencement speech. The person more deserving to address America's future is our Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos. Yes there was a controversy when Secretary of Education DeVos spoke at that college because those people just want a handout, free education, free medical, free meals, free foodstamps and daycare. Lock them up If they want all that free things we have to work for. If a more deserving white man gets picked for a job over them then they revert to racial discrimination. Look at the Trump family, they're a hardworking white family and it shows with all their wealth.

Did u notice the woman who stood up in the front row and turned her back on pence so he could see the rainbow flag on her cap? He probably threw his wife at her. Mother, protect me. This is a guy who rejected the Catholic faith to become an evangelical yet they invite him. He stands for divisiveness and hatred of the "other". Sigh laws to discriminate against LGBTQ? CHECK. BACK THE Muslim ban? Check. Support laws to take away women's rights? Yup. Let's have that guy speak at our commencement.

What is disrespectful using racism as a weapon, to demonize the "other", be it through birtherism or a Muslim ban and branding Mexicans as rapists and drug dealers. Like setting up a special department to focus on crimes by immigrants against real Muricans when the violent crime rate is loweramong immigrants than real Muricans. It's disrespectful to talk about yourself and ur huge crowds in front a wall memorializing those who have fallen for this country. Or to whine about how unfair people are to u at a commencement speech for men and women about to enter a career protecting this country. And I could go on

He does not respect our laws regarding women's reproductive health, LGBT rights, freedom of speech for minorities, voting rights, the right to breathe clean air and drink clean water, the right to NOT have manmade earthquakes from fracking, the right to walk down the street without being afraid you will be 'accidently' shit by some white RW gun nut cleaning his 'empty' gun...and the right of Americans to walk out of a speech when they disagree.

And those students just turned their back on the disrespectful former gov. as a former Hoosier - I woulda mooned him, too.

Pence is one of those who believes that if u don't condemn it, u condone it. So if every Muslim doesn't condemn a terrorist attack by a Muslim group, then they must condone it. Trump has probably violated every commandment at least once. Although he does honor his father by being a racist POS. And while we can't proved he killed anyone, or had them killed by his Mafia associates, he is pushi g a health care plan that could lead to people dying. I haven't heard a peep from pence regarding trumps lying, adultery, fraud, stealing by refusing to pay contractors, etc, so pence must condone it

Trump Sets New Bar for Presidential Success

By the way, Donald Trump is getting good marks for today's speech in Saudi Arabia because he managed to recite it adequately off the teleprompter and didn't veer off topic into any of the usual Trump idiocy.

Seriously. This is what the coverage is like. Apparently that's all we expect from a president these days.1

One other note: I'm not sure how many people have noticed this, but Trump has a long history of talking big when he's on a stage or on TV but backing down when he meets people face-to-face. It's already happened with China, Japan, Mexico, Germany, and a host of others. Now it's happening with Saudi Arabia, which seems to have Trump practically in thrall. This should come as no surprise to anyone.

1Of course, the last time this happened was Trump's state-of-the-union address, and he managed to bollox that up within two days. I won't be surprised if he does the same this time.

It's important to note that this took place in Indiana, Pence's home state.

Granted, Notre Dame is a prestigious school which attracts students from across the country and around the world, but these students have lived in the state that Pence mis-governed for four years.

Yes, I also thought of that, however Notre Dame isn't a public school, so I think the protest was more because of his policies as VP

I don't see how being public or private has anything to do with it. The students know Pence well and they clearly don't like him at all. They've known him for far longer and better than most in the US. That is the point.

‘Angry’ Netanyahu orders boycotting Israeli officials to show up for Trump reception: report

President Donald Trump’s overseas visit has hit another bump after it was revealed that Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was forced to order some government ministers and officials to attend a Monday reception for the American president after they threatened to boycott.

According to The Guardian, Netanyahu grew angry on Sunday when he learned of the boycott by some party heads and government officials after they learned of preconditions set forth by the White House.

Israeli officials were told that the White House had requested the reception be shortened to playing the two countries’ anthems – with Trump only shaking hands with Netanyahu......

    1) Catholicism comes in a number of flavors, many quite progressive (no Biblical literalism in ANY mainstream RCC.)
    2) It's a university, Catholicism not taught and not required to attend. (15% of students are not RCC.)
    3) THE Board of Trustees (since '67) is the governing entity of the University.
