Fox News is no longer the most watched cable news network. That honor goes to MSNBC.

Courtesy of The Independent:

Fox News was knocked off the number one slot as the most-watched primetime cable television network in America, after being overtaken by MSNBC.

According to figures from global research company Nielsen, the network was the most-watched station during the weekday prime evening slot from 7pm to midnight between 17 and 21 July.

During this time the more centrist network gained 2.34 million viewers, while Fox News had 2.25 million.

The sought-after evening slots include shows from Fox presenters Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson, and the network previously gained the highest number of viewers.

The Rachel Maddow Show, which was the first television show to expose two pages of Donald Trump’s 2005 tax returns, also gained more viewers than Fox News and CNN for the fourth consecutive week in the prime slot between 9 to 10pm.

Man you know that Roger Ailes is spinning is his grave like a rotisserie chicken right about now.

This is really great news, and so well deserved.

MSNBC needs to recognize why this is happening, and the hunger people have for good journalism, and stop bringing on those Fox News castoffs for "balance."

MSNBC is what it is and people love it.

Currently I do not have too many must watch shows.

But the Rachel Maddow Show is at the top of my must see TV list every single day.

The only other show that attracts that kind of allegiance from me is "Game of Thrones." And Rachel Maddow does not even have to use dragons.

Where have the Fox ignorati gone? It's hard to imagine they are now watching MSNBC. I bet they are just bulking up on Alex Jones, Limbaugh, and the usual AM radio hate mongers.

Truth be told, they never left fox. Dump being elected has boosted the ratings of tv shows that are not dump friendly ie any network but fox. They are still getting their daily fix of bigotry and patriotic talking points from fox.

    2. They're dying off. Literally. They were old to begin with. As they die off they are not being replaced fast enough.

Because younger generations aren't that stupid and gullible.

Rachel Maddow (evening/MSNBC) has been my 'go to' for a good many years now. I trust everything she says. She's a terrific journalist - researches thoroughly - has a good sense of humor - and is always factual. IF she makes an error (which is not often my any means) she will note and correct it.

Recommend her to all America! Lawrence O'Donnell does a great job too with his show following immediately after hers.

Same here! Now that we have DVR, I record TRMS if I can't watch it live. Also love AM Joy on the weekend

    Washington Examiner:
Trump won't say if he'll fire Jeff Sessions, calls his endorsement not 'a great loyal thing'

    by Kelly Cohen | Jul 25, 2017, 3:55 PM

.....Sessions was the first senator to endorse Trump in February 2016 — but according to the president, that was "not like a great loyal thing."

"When they say he endorsed me, I went to Alabama," Trump told the Journal. "I had 40,000 people. He was a senator from Alabama. I won the state by a lot, massive numbers. A lot of the states I won by massive numbers. But he was a senator, he looks at 40,000 people and he probably says, 'What do I have to lose?' And he endorsed me. So it's not like a great loyal thing about the endorsement. But I'm very disappointed in Jeff Sessions."....

    1. Did he tell the Boy Scouts that Loyalty is a one way street only leading to him?

I Won't watch any cable news opinion shows. My mental health is much better when I shut off the tv and do something fun or meaningful. But I'm glad MSN is over taking FOX. That station had brainwashed and ruined millions of people's minds.

Rachel is not opinion. Rachel deals in facts. You ought to tune in. Facts are good.

I too have never seen any of the cable news shows. We have all those channels, we have ALL the channels but we've always taken the "news" channels out of our lineup because we didn't grow up watching them.

I do pickup in my newsfeed and notifications what Maddow and other liberal newsies are talking about and that's enough for me. We don't have a lot of TV time in our house because too busy with work and travel so we spend all of our time trying to catch up with what the DVR has downloaded in the last few days.

Maddow visited AK in 2008 or 2009, can't remember when but I met her with some friends of mine and she is just as intelligent as people that watch her say she is. It takes about 10 seconds with a person like her to realize they are very intellectually capable, I just don't have time to watch news shows. Perhaps after I retire ;-) I'm 51 so 4 more years to retirement...I hope I can hang in there that long, it seems like a long time!

    3. She ain't so smart. She only knows one language, it's English, and even that one not too good. (source: TRMS, July 24 2017)

      I'm a progressive 69 year-old female, retired since 2004 and living in mid-Michigan.

I also enjoy doing things I find fun and meaningful. In my case, watching MSNBC, especially Rachel Maddow and Joy Reid, keeps me "sane". I don't like Morning Joe however.

Outstanding Rachel Maddow!!! You are the best!
FOX needs to be eliminated from cable is my thought.

  7. Rachel Maddow has just been nominated for two Emmys, and Lawrence O'Donnell for one.
It's nice to see them get such recognition. Joy Reid also deserves something.

Overall, Chris Matthews, Chris Hayes, Rachel Maddow, Lawrence O'Donnell, Joy Reid, and Brian Williams are a very formidable lineup, and, for the most part, they also have a consistently great lineup of guests/panelists.

Don't feed the trolls!
It just goes directly to their thighs.
