The build up to war with North Korea has begun.

Courtesy of Vox:

“There is a military option: to destroy North Korea’s nuclear program and North Korea itself,” Graham told the Today show’s Matt Lauer. “He’s not going to allow — President Trump — the ability of this madman [Kim Jong Un] to have a missile that could hit America. “If there’s going to be a war to stop him, it will be over there,” Graham continued.

“If thousands die, they’re going to die over there. They’re not going to die over here — and he’s told me that to my face.”

Graham’s press office confirmed that the senator was, in fact, reciting the details of a conversation he had with the president. According to Graham, the president “doesn’t want a war” — but would be willing to start one that would kill millions of people in the region if it came down to it.

Graham went even further later in the interview, saying war between the United States and North Korea was “inevitable” under this president unless North Korea stops testing intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs). These missiles, Graham says, are an unacceptable threat to the American homeland — so Trump would go to war to stop them.

I actually believe that the talk of North Korea's ability to send a missile far enough to hit any city or state in America is overblown.

In a very short amount of time we have gone from mocking North Korea's efforts to build a working missile, to fear mongering about potentially being blown up in our sleep.

All of this feels far too similar to the selling of the Iraq War to me, and I am not buying it.

And the cost of this war could be catastrophic:

While all war game scenarios show the US winning a military confrontation, that victory could come at the cost of hundreds of thousands of deaths, mostly in South Korea where millions of innocent people -- and nearly 30,000 US troops -- are already in range of North Korea's current missile capabilities.

And that is not even considering the possibility that China may come to the aid of their longtime friend and ally.

But none of that will matter to Trump, because keep in mind that this presidency is coming apart at the seams, and the ONLY thing that will distract the public from talk of investigations into Russian collusion, is the start of a new war.

This is what Republicans do, this is what they ALWAYS do, and yet people keep voting for them.

Trump never heard the word "diplomacy" before sitting behind the desk in the Oval Office. He still has no idea what it means. He's never respected or dealt fairly with anyone in his life. He's not going to start doing it now.

    2. Of course not. That is not how Trump negotiates a deal.

Trump dictates what he wants and threatens to get it. That's his "art of the deal." "I tell you want I want and what I'm going to do to you if I don't get it."

You can see a microcosm of it in the negotiations (?) about the Trumpcare death bill(s).

Tom is gonna get if for me or he's fired.

Hauling all of those senators to the White House to yell at them and threaten their re-elections.

Not only has he no clue what diplomacy is, he also has no clue what negotiate means. It doesn't mean what he thinks it means.

Su-u-u-re. But what about the hundreds of thousands of Americans living and working in S. Korea?

What about the 25 million people living and working in Seoul?

What about one the highest number of chemical and biological weapons stockpiles in the world?

There are 25+ million people living and working in Seoul. The artillery pieces are known to be EXTREMELY hard to take out due to their blast doors that close AFTER EACH FIRING so they can be reloaded?

I agree with Gryphen. This crap Humpty Trumpty is pulling is another "wag the dog" scenario to divert attention from his Russia problems. He will do ANYTHING to "solve" the problem. And it won't matter to him in the least if ALL of them die.

I don't believe he has thought about the political consequences, either. If he makes the decision - with the US being alone in the assault - he (and we) would face world wide outcry and be faced with claims of war crimes. At least, that's what I believe would happen. There are too many leaders who trust him as far as he could throw a Grand Piano.

It would be one helluva a way of getting rid of him, but I would hope we can do something that would cost FAR fewer lives.

Well gees Leland, think about it. Russia Bullwinkled America a century ago, and we let them. Expose is uprooting deep ties into the money market, that started when too much money flooded the USA, thus ushering in the 1929 stock market crash.
Since then, they funded wars, made money off our dead soldiers. Pearl Harbor and 9-11 are both parallel Oh I could go on, and on.
Point is, dig up and toss out those Russians. USA.

      @8:35

I will need links to prove of all that, please. As an example, Russia was almost broke from 1917 on after their revolution and they were still trying to make sense of what they wanted to do. If there was any money "flooding" the US market, it was from EX-royalty that left Russia understandable quickly - with their personal funds.

As for the crash of 1929, you need to do some research. THAT was caused by the repetitive habit of the banks using the funds of their patron's saving's accounts. They would use their depositors funds for the risky investments they wanted to make. That way they wouldn't risk their own funds. When the investments failed and the bankers' couldn't return the monies of their patrons there were runs on the banks, which couldn't give their depositors' money back, so they crashed.

That particular problem was why the Glass- Steagall Act of 1933 was written and passed. That bill controlled how the banks were able to use their depositors' monies and worked very well from then on.

And to make you feel even more unsteady about our current financial laws, that Act was essentially gutted with the 1999 Gramm-Leach-Bailey which "repealed the two provisions restricting affiliations between banks and securities firms".

And almost exactly on schedule, we had the financial difficulties starting near the end of Bush's time in office.

The so-called Russian influence is there, yes. It is NOT as pervasive as you want to make it out to be.

It is doubtful that North Korea can send a missile to reach USA shores yet.
BUT....they can wipe out Seoul, South Korea, etc, or cause severe loss of life and damage to any Japanese city. Japan and South Korea are 2 major allies of USA. Also, USA doesn't know where MANY of North Korean missiles/launching are located to send our missiles to destroy them before they can be launched at our allies.

Besides, there must be at least tens of thousands of Americans living in South Korea, Japan and Taiwan, all big US allies. We also cannot abandon the safety of our Asian allies. The GOP might think Asians are a disposable minority like all others, but they are not.

Simply the population density of that part of the world should make war unthinkable. Unfortunately for everyone, Trump will see it as his salvation, his escape from his traitorous Russian problem and his way back to positive poll numbers. I fear that the media will jump on board right away (remember how excited both print media and television media were to support Bush's war in Iraq) and also write off (literally) the very serious investigation into Trump/GOP campaign and ongoing crimes against America.

Pathetic Trump Begged Mexico To Stop Telling The Press They Won’t Pay For The Wall

Transcripts of Trump's phone calls with Mexican President Peña Nieto reveal a liar who knew that Mexico would never pay for the wall but begged them to stop telling the press that they wouldn't pay because it was damaging him politically.

The President threatened to not meet with the US’s ally and southern neighbor unless they stopped telling the truth about his wall. Trump was trying to blackmail Mexico into covering for his false statements.

It didn’t work. Every time the wall makes the news, the response from Mexico is the same, ‘We’re not paying for the wall.’

The President once again wants to know who we are and how we are getting our information. He's angry that after all the purging we still haven't been eliminated. Apparently he told Kelly something along the lines of "I want those assholes out. I want them arrested. I don't care if you have to fire everyone to do it. I don't even care if it's not illegal."

    http://potusstaff.com/a-dangerous-game-of-chicken.html

...A pocket veto be overridden. That will buy time. Time enough to do other things so that the public can be distracted with other matters and never notice that the same Congress that overwhelmingly passed the bill never bothered to do it a second time. It's all a very convenient scenario. All of the members of Congress who voted for the bill will hold up that vote in front of their constituents when the time for reelection comes around. Republicans can go home and assure their districts that they oppose Russia's interference in our election, while neglecting to point out that it was their leadership who allowed a pocket veto to happen, and then took it laying down. Democrats will once again point to the President while holding out their collection plates. It's good optics all the way around. Everybody wins. That is, everyone in the District wins.

...Our system of government was designed to prevent any one person from accumulating too much power that could be turned against the good of the People. But with Congressional Republicans and Democrats alike becoming a coequally duplicitous branch of government, perhaps the constitutional crises are not looming ahead of us, they are already upon us. Or maybe Obama was right--we get the politicians we deserve.

Analysis: President Trump admits he punked his supporters on Mexico paying for the wal

The Washington Post's Greg Miller has obtained transcripts of President Donald Trump's calls with the heads of Mexico and Australia during his first days in office, and they are both doozies.

One big takeaway is that Trump seems to acknowledge exactly what his pledge to make Mexico pay for the border wall was - a hollow promise meant to rile up the base.

At one point in his call with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto, Trump even acknowledges that the wall is "the least important thing we are talking about, but politically this might be the most important."

You hear that, Trump supporters? That applause line that Trump used with such gusto for basically his entire campaign - "Build that wall," and "Who's going to pay for it? (Crowd response: MEXICO!)"? It was all vote-bait, red meat for voters who didn't know that it was completely impractical and would never happen. And within his first days in office - this call took place on Jan. 27, a week after Trump's inauguration - Trump was already throwing in the towel on it on a call with the Mexican president

The bully in chief is losing his touch

Donald Trump has bullied his way through his adult life. Screaming, suing, manipulating the tabloid press and allegedly chiseling employees, he has used wealth, power and a volatile personality to get his way. He bluffed, dodged, insulted and stormed his way through the campaign. For a time, his standing with the GOP base, the fear of nasty tweets (yes, politicians are wimps) and the hope that they could use him to pass their agenda led to a pathetic level of deference from GOP lawmakers.

Now the president’s poll numbers are in the 30s. He has failed on his signature legislative item (repealing and replacing Obamacare), fired a slew of advisers, been compelled to sign Russia sanctions legislation and failed to halt the special counsel’s investigation into his and his campaign’s Russian affiliations. And now the ice has cracked, the power is ebbing and lawmakers, civil servants, outside groups are unimpressed — and more than willing to shove back:

...Trump is a diminished figure, a weakened force after only about six months in office. Once the aura of presidential authority is gone, others (Congress, the chief of staff, third parties) become more and more daring in challenging the president, more willing to speak out (on the record or via leaks) and more insistent on taking matters into their own hands. Trump got to the presidency by faking his way through the campaign, pretending to have skills and knowledge he obviously does not. As he now fakes “being in charge,” watch for him to lash out at real and perceived affronts, step up the number of self-congratulatory lies (so many imaginary phone calls!) and strain even harder to recapture the adulation he experienced on the campaign trail...
