Senate confirms nominee for federal judgeship who has never tried a single case.

Courtesy of the LA Times:

Brett J. Talley, President Trump’s nominee to be a federal judge in Alabama, has never tried a case, was unanimously rated “not qualified” by the American Bar Assn.’s judicial rating committee, has practiced law for only three years and, as a blogger last year, displayed a degree of partisanship unusual for a judicial nominee, denouncing “Hillary Rotten Clinton” and pledging support for the National Rifle Assn.

On Thursday, the Senate Judiciary Committee, on a party-line vote, approved him for a lifetime appointment to the federal bench.

Talley, 36, is part of what Trump has called the "untold story" of his success in filling the courts with young conservatives.

“The judge story is an untold story. Nobody wants to talk about it,” Trump said last month, standing alongside Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) in the White House Rose Garden. “But when you think of it, Mitch and I were saying, that has consequences 40 years out, depending on the age of the judge — but 40 years out.”

The Trumpification of America is right on track.

Unqualified judges, inexperienced cabinet members, and unrepentant sexual predators in the Senate.

Donald Trump was a change candidate alright, and just look what he has changed us into.

When it's proven Trump colluded with the enemy, laundered dirty mob money from Russia, evaded taxes and other stuff, can all these decisions by rescinded.

Trump believes Putin's story that there was no meddling in our election (over our 17 intelligence agencies) but NFL players kneeling are the ones disrespecting our flag and troops on this Veteran's Day? I don't think so! Trump has really shit on the military today with his continuing ass kissing of Putin.

Who is on that committee? They all need to be fired by their constituents.

It seems impossible that our laws allow this to happen. Guess our forefathers just never considered how low the people and their candidates could sink. They must all be turning in their graves, on a 24 hour a day rotation -- constantly, that is.

This is confusing. Wilbur does or doesn't do business with Putin's son-in-law?

    The Hill:
....During a briefing at the conclusion of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Vietnam, Putin also dismissed reports that Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross holds a stake in a company that does business with a Russian company with possible ties to the Russian president's son-in-law, according to multiplereports.

"This is nothing more than business. It never had and does not have any relation with politics," Putin said, according to The Associated Press.

😲 Senate Panel Votes to Make Blogger With No Trial Experience a Federal Judge

But he does write a spirited, far-right blog: Shortly after the massacre at Sandy Hook elementary, Talley described Barack Obama’s proposal to expand background checks and restrict rapid-fire weapons as “the greatest attack on our constitutional freedoms in our lifetime.” One month later, he endorsed the idea that Americans “will have to resort to arms when our other rights — of speech, press, assembly, representative government — fail to yield the desired results.” During the 2016 campaign he derided the Democratic nominee as “Hillary Rotten Clinton.”

Brett J. Talley, President Trump’s nominee to be a federal judge in Alabama,

    ● Civil rights groups and liberal advocates see the matter differently.

    ● They denounced Thursday’s vote, calling it “laughable” that none of the committee Republicans objected to confirming a lawyer with as little experience as Talley to preside over federal trials.

  17. He's the second this week to be unanimously deemed unqualified.

Four appointments rammed through this week, courtesy of Bitch McConnell.

And TIM KAINE voted for one of them!

    https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/amy-coney-barrett-abortion-rights-federal-judge_us_59f87abde4b0aec1467ac111

"The Senate voted Tuesday to confirm circuit court nominee Amy Coney Barrett, who has suggested Roe v. Wade was an “erroneous decision” and called the Affordable Care Act’s birth control benefit “an assault on religious liberty.”

Barrett was confirmed 55-43 to be a lifetime judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit — a court one level below the Supreme Court.

Three Democrats, Sens. Joe Manchin (W.Va.), Joe Donnelly (Ind.) and Tim Kaine (Va.) voted for her. All Republicans voted for her, including Sens. Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) and Susan Collins (Maine), both of whom support abortion rights.

Barrett, a 45-year-old Notre Dame law professor, has been under fire for weeks from abortion rights groups and LGBTQ rights groups over her views.

Seventeen women’s rights groups wrote to the Judiciary Committee urging them to oppose Barrett for her record of having “expressly opposed reproductive and women’s rights.” They cited a 2003 article by Barrett in which she refers to Roe v. Wade, the landmark Supreme Court decision ensuring women’s access to abortion, as an “erroneous decision.” Their letter also notes that Barrett signed a public “statement of protest” against the Affordable Care Act’s birth control benefit, referring to the policy as an “assault on religious liberty.”

Some have also raised questions about Barrett’s membership in a tightly knit Christian group called People of Praise, where people are assigned to a personal adviser ― men are referred to as “heads” and women are “handmaids” ― and taught that husbands are the heads of their wives and should exercise authority over the family."

I will NEVER vote for Tim Kaine. EVER.

I said he was a lousy choice for VP and I stand by that.

  22. These aren't Trump's nominations. He's just rubber stamping them. They're chosen by his right wing nationalist fundie fascist political organizations. They give him a list.

They're all anti-abortion, anti-LGBTQ, right wing fundamentalist and all YOUNG because these are lifetime appointments.

If Trump does NOTHING until he's gone, we're still screwed. Because these judicial assholes will be on the bench deciding cases for decades.

That was what the 2016 election was about. It was about the judges. Gorsucks for sure, but also these openings down the food chain. McConnell made sure to keep as many of them unfulfilled as he could under Obama. Now they're stacking the deck so when we have a Democratic president and Democratic congress, we're still screwed.

I hope people are praying daily for the health of Ginsberg and Kennedy and Breyer because if any of them dies or retires, we are TOTALLY SCREWED.

What also needs to be added to this discussion is the fact that Mitch McConnell blocked Obama's nominations during his presidency. McConnell's obstructionism is the reason Trump inherited a huge amount of vacant positions that needed to be filled.

Everyone take a look at McConnell. He is the traitor-in-charge and a do-nothing Senator. So I guess, unfortunately, I agree with Steve Bannon that this guy has got to go.

When I was in law school many years ago it was commonly known that A students became law professors, B students became practitioners, and C students became judges. After 40 years practicing law that seems accurate to me. Interestingly tho when a "baby" attorney becomes a judge, his/her views may change significantly as he/she matures. This guy could be a liberal 10 years from now!
