Joe Arpaio, recent recipient of a presidential pardon, will run for the Senate.

Courtesy of the Washington Examiner:

Republican Joe Arpaio, a close ally of President Trump and former sheriff known for his provocative approach to combatting illegal immigration, is running for Senate in Arizona.

The 85-year-old Arpaio could shake up the late August Republican primary in a critical open-seat race to replace retiring Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz. Trump pardoned Arpaio last summer, sparing the former sheriff jail time after he was convicted of ignoring a federal court order in a racial-profiling case.

The polarizing yet iconic former Maricopa County sheriff, beloved by many conservatives for his hawkish immigration policies, presents an alternative to the unimpressive Kelli Ward and a potential obstacle to Rep. Martha McSally. She is expected to launch within days and is widely viewed as the Republicans’ strongest general election candidate.

In a telephone interview with the Washington Examiner, Arpaio shrugged off concerns about his age, dismissed Republican insiders’ anxiety that his poor reputation with nonwhite voters would put the seat in play for the Democrats in the midterm, and discussed plans to work with Trump on behalf of Arizona.

“I have a lot to offer. I’m a big supporter of President Trump,” Arpaio said. “I’m going to have to work hard; you don’t take anything for granted. But I would not being doing this if I thought that I could not win. I’m not here to get my name in the paper, I get that everyday, anyway.”

Renowned racist, convicted in a court of law, pardoned by an equally racist president, and now running to represent Arizona in the Senate.

Could only happen in Trump's America.

I actually hopes that he wins the nomination, and then loses spectacularly to his Democratic opponent.

THAT would be justice.

Democrats say 'O! Yes!' to Winfrey

Hardened political operatives from both parties are taking a potential 2020 bid seriously — and say she'd be formidable.

...“She is very smart, she has a substantial following. I would take her very seriously as a candidate,” said former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, one of Trump’s most reliable defenders. “Times change and circumstances change — and Oprah is unique, she’s not just a celebrity, she is a very successful businesswoman. … She’s a very serious person. She’s not in the celebrity league.”

“If she was a conservative, I’d be looking at her for 2024!” said Jeff Kaufmann, the Iowa GOP state chairman. “Let’s face it, she is a likable, respectable lady. That automatically puts her into contention by anybody’s definition.”

...“There are 99 county chairs in Iowa,” said Obama’s 2012 Iowa state director, Brad Anderson. “And I promise you every one of them would call her back. And I can’t say that about every potential presidential candidate.”

...“There’s a big gulf between the warm feelings that speech generated and the cold hard reality of running,” Axelrod said. “That speech itself is a reminder that one can be a really impactful person without running for president of the United States.”

“She’s phenomenal. She’s broken barriers, she’s opened doors,” Brazile said. “The question is whether she’s looking for a new address.”

Has anyone heard where Oprah is? How did her house do with the rains and mudslides? I have heard that 6 people are dead, the freeway is like a river with huge boulders and debri, a body laying in the street near the Four Seasons, a toddler found alone covered in mud, teens rescued after hours covered in mud. It is a horrible situation and looks nothing like the old Montecito.

President Trump is not at all worried about the potential for an Oprah Winfrey 2020 presidential run, telling reporters Tuesday that he would defeat her. “Yeah, I’ll beat Oprah. Oprah would be a lot of fun,” he said during a brief press availability. “I like Oprah. I don’t think she’s gonna run. I know her very well.” Trump additionally took the time to boast: “You know, I did one of her last shows. She had Donald Trump—this was before politics—her last week. And she had Donald Trump and my family. It was very nice.”

We have never seen or heard of anything like this in that neighborhood. Bodies laying all over the streets. Missing people, trapped people.

Trump had something to say about Oprah, is he going to offer condolences to the dead, missing, damaged, lost houses in Oprah's hood?

I've heard her property is being used as a staging area for emergency services.

    10. Trump is praying to Trump that Oprah doesn’t run because if she does, she’ll win.

Conservatives may not vote for a black man but Oprah is a whole different story. Not only would she get the Democratic vote but also the womens vote. Those that didn’t want to vote for Trump would cross over for Oprah.

She is a legitimate self made millionaire. She is a successful business woman, having starting with nothing and built an empire. She’s smart, educated and articulate.

She would wipe the floor with him.

I can really understand why she wouldn’t want to run, but this may be presented as your duty to serve your country and save it from Trump and the Death Party.

Top Democrats accuse GOP of ignoring Russia threat

Six senior House Democrats on Tuesday said Republicans "put President Trump ahead of our national interests" by failing to address the threat they said Russia poses to future U.S. elections and national security.

"Rather than pursue the truth on behalf of the American people, House Republicans have waged an aggressive campaign to shut down congressional and criminal investigations into Russia’s attack," the lawmakers wrote in a letter to Speaker Paul Ryan.

The Democrats urged Ryan to convene a meeting of leaders from both parties to begin confronting the prospect of future Russian election interference. They listed a number of issues they said Congress hasn't fully investigated, from discerning security vulnerabilities in the nation's electrical grids and infrastructure to settling questions about whether associates of President Donald Trump aided Russia's 2016 effort to influence the election.

Signing the letter were Rep. Elijah Cummings, the ranking member of the Oversight Committee; Rep. Maxine Waters, the ranking member of the Financial Services Committee; Rep. Elliot Engel, the ranking member of the Foreign Affairs Committee; Rep. Jerrold Nadler, the ranking member of the Judiciary Committee; Rep. Bob Brady, the ranking member of the administration committee and Rep. Bennie Thompson, the ranking member of the Homeland Security Committee.

Racist Shitbag Joe Arpaio Wants To Lose Senate Race Just Like Accused Pedo Roy Moore Did!

Joe Arpaio, the 85-year-old racist, xenophobic piece of trash criminal former Maricopa County sheriff, has announced he will run for the Senate seat being vacated by Jeff Flake, now that Donald Trump has pardoned his old balls and saved him from prison. “America’s Toughest Sheriff,” as Arpaio used to call himself, had been convicted of criminal contempt of court for ignoring a judge’s order to stop racially profiling Latinos, but now he is free, because Donald Trump is a white supremacist who thinks Arpaio was convicted for merely doing his job (or, as Fox News suggested, for loving Trump TOO MUCH). So HOORAY, Arpaio can run for the Senate and get his ass handed to him just like we handed it to Roy Moore!

Fire and Fury flies off shelves, with publisher rushing to print 1 Million copies

Michael Wolff’s headline-grabbing exposé of the US president’s administration has been selling out on both sides of the Atlantic in its first days on sale

...Henry Holt has now received orders for more than 1m copies of Fire and Fury, according to the New York Times, with “hundreds of thousands” of ebooks already sold, and sales of the audiobook “in the low six figures”. Amazon in the US and the UK is out of stock of the hardback, offering shipping times of two to four weeks in the US and three to five days in the UK, while Waterstones sold out at the weekend. Its Piccadilly, London store received a delivery of 500 copies on Tuesday – which it expected to sell fast.

“Demand is very high, both in our shops and on our website, and Fire and Fury looks set to be the biggest political book of the year,” said spokeswoman Sandra Taylor. “Its UK publisher, Little, Brown, is continuing to do a fantastic job keeping up with a title which is quite unprecedented. We had early deliveries to a selection of shops over the weekend and all of these copies sold out extremely quickly.”

John Sargent, chief executive of Henry Holt’s parent company Macmillan, told the New York Times that Trump’s response to Fire and Fury “has undeniably increased the sales of the book and increased the reach of the book”. He told the Washington Post: “We have multiple printings at multiple printers now and all of our suppliers are doing a remarkable job of getting books into the marketplace. They all realise the importance of this book as a commercial success, but they also recognise the huge importance of reading a book the government is trying to stop.”

Sargent wrote to Macmillan staff on Monday, describing the “clear effort by the president of the US to intimidate a publisher into halting publication of an important book on the workings of the government” as “flagrantly unconstitutional”.

Trump signs law creating national historic park for Martin Luther King Jr.

Trump signed a measure Monday creating a new national historic park for Martin Luther King Jr. during a trip to the college football national championship game in Atlanta.

The President performed the signing on Air Force One with Alveda King, the niece of the late iconic civil rights leader, looking on.

The law creates the first national historic park in the state of Georgia. It was sponsored by Democratic Rep. John Lewis, a vocal Trump critic who recently boycotted the opening of the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum because the President spoke at the event.
The legislation expands the boundaries of the former Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site in Atlanta to include the Prince Hall Masonic Temple, a site that King used as the headquarters for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, according to a White House spokesman.
