Former President Barack Obama talked about his future plans for his post-presidency life at a conference Sunday in Japan, addressing how he might shape "a million" new, young leaders in his mold.
The wide-ranging discussion repeatedly touched on the Obama Foundation's efforts to engage the digital space to help young people in the U.S. and across the world get connected.
"If I could do that effectively, then -- you know -- I would create a hundred or a thousand or a million young Barack Obamas or Michelle Obamas," Obama said. "Or, the next group of people who could take that baton in that relay race that is human progress."
Speaking of a million if you go and open your window right now that is how many Republican heads you can hear exploding.
Could you imagine if Obama combined forces with this group of Parkland students?
He already reached out to them once.
And THAT sound you are hearing is a million more Republican heads exploding.EXCLUSIVE: Here’s the letter @BarackObama and @MichelleObama wrote to the #ParklandShooting survivors. In it, the former president and first lady tell the teens that they’ve “inspired” them, and commend them on “awakening the conscience of our nation.” https://t.co/FOQYVguNFw pic.twitter.com/xEPHE6iUL2— Mic (@mic) March 21, 2018

ReplyDeleteOT?:"The rate of obesity in children and adolescents has risen tenfold globally in the past 40 years. Of the 20 largest countries in the world, the US had the highest rate of childhood obesity, at 13 percent. One of the well-appreciated contributors to childhood obesity globally is food marketing."
ReplyDelete"In 2015, the new study found, sports sponsorships totaled $57.5 BILLION worldwide. "“There are data showing that when kids see a given food that is branded with a character or a superhero or a sports hero, they eat more of it than they would if it didn’t have branding or marketing, and they say it tastes better,”2011, an Obama administration effort to pass voluntary guidelines that would have curtailed the food industry’s ability to peddle to kids failed in the face of fierce food industry opposition." "The Trump administration has said childhood obesity is NOT a priority" OPENLY OUT-RIGHT.

Great article in NY times by John Paul Stevens, Repeal the second amendment. A must read. A solution. A voice of reason. Enough is enough.
ReplyDeleteI think it's a great idea, but it won't happen. The process takes years and as long as the repubes are in power, they will NOT write the proposal! And if they do, there are years of waiting for the states to try to ratify it.
DeletePersonally, I think I will be long dead before that happens.
When I was a youngster (am now in my 80's)if there was a bully or a kid without manners we labeled them a PK. That stood for preacher's kid because they were notoriously out of control, un-disciplined aggravators, usually creating inappropriate noise too.
ReplyDeleteIt seems today these "professed xtians" are of that same ilk. Nefarious, can't admit the truth, win at all costs, power players, demean anyone not white and male.
Unfortunately, it seems not only did the religious right not learn but they have gone full steam ahead to sidestep the truth, grab "funny money" to "win" whatever they are chasing, sideline anyone not of their stripe.
Perpetuating thinking, educated, fair-minded individuals who embrace diversity and encompass all the masses, and move forward in a fair and inclusive way is the only track that will save our democracy.
The mess being made by this administration will require dedicated, honest, brilliant people to put the country back together so it can function for its residents in a peaceful climate.
How fortunate to have role models like the Obamas to mimic.
A million Obamas is better than one Palin or Trump.
ReplyDeleteParents Of Teacher Killed In Parkland Shooting Received A Letter From Obama, Nothing From Trump
ReplyDelete...“Your son seemed like an extraordinary young man, and Michelle and I grieve alongside you,” the letter to Michael and Linda read. “We can only imagine the hardship you are going through; hopefully all the wonderful memories can help ease the pain. We’ll get the details about your fund in his honor. In the meantime, you are in our thoughts and prayers.” It was handwritten, and it was signed Barack Obama.

Trump only cares about first responders. I guess he's just infatuated with fire trucks and the flashing lights on ambulances and cop cars.
