Man shoots and kills himself outside of White House. Don't get too excited, it wasn't him.

Courtesy of NBC News:

The Secret Service said Saturday afternoon that it was responding to reports of a man who "allegedly suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound" along the White House's north lawn fence.

The security agency said that medical personnel had been called to respond to the male victim, but he was declared dead at the scene. His body remained there as of 2:15 p.m, according to the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Police Department.

"The subject approached the vicinity of the North White House fence line and removed a concealed handgun and fired several rounds, none of which appear at this time to have been directed towards the White House," the Secret Service said in a statement.

The agency said they had identified the shooter but were withholding his name until they could notify next of kin. The Metropolitan Police Department will lead an investigation into the shooting with the support of the Secret Service.

The agency alerted the public to the incident following reports of a lock down at the White House. They added that there were no other reported injuries relating to the incident.

If you were like me you probably heard this story and for just one second you actually had hope.

But no it wasn't Donald Trump, it was just some poor bastard tired of living in Donald Trump's America.

I think we all know that Donald Trump's life will not end with a bullet, it will end when he reaches down to pick up a Chicken McNugget and the exertion causes his heart to explode.

And for those who may have actually worried about Trump's life, put your mind at ease. He was almost a thousand miles away in Mar-a-Lago avoiding the possibility of having to do his job, as usual.

To be honest I really do not want any harm to befall Donald Trump.

I would much rather have him hale and hearty when they drag him away in handcuffs.

I also think that we should mourn the fact that yet another life has been taken by the very constitutional right that so many conservatives want to convince us exists solely to protect us.

Trump praised China’s president, noting that he was president for life. Then Trump said, “Maybe we’ll try that.” That is downright SCARY.

FDR is the only President to have more than two terms. After that, I think there’s a Constitutional Amendment that does not allow presidents to serve more than two terms... but we know how Trump refuses to follow laws and presidential traditions now, don’t we?

It's amazing how many young (and maybe not-so-young) citizens would be on board with that. It's what is in Putin's playbook. Sow distrust of the establishment, and develop a commonly-held wish to "tear the system down". I bet a high percentage of the current Republican party would have absolutely no qualms about doing away entirely at this point with free and fair elections, and living in a plutocracy.

    6. One would imagine that he'd simply change the length of the "term" using an executive order.

    7. He can’t change the length of terms or number of terms as they are in the Constitution.

But he and his BFF could arrange for circumstances that would justify suspending elections until “the crisis has passed.” That’s how the dictatorships in Africa do it. And of course, the crisis never passes.

Anon 4:57- You’re right about FDR being a great President during WWII. He understood very early on, before we got in the war, that we needed to help the Allies. He started to quietly prepare for war.

He did order the internment camps for the Japanese Americans, which was awful and wrong. That was a serious mistake, but he was a great President. He saved our asses during the war.

He really has no clue about the Constitution, history or what our democracy is about.

The Latest: Press corps, officials trade barbs at Gridiron
    The Associated Press

Members of the Washington press corps are sharpening their wits for musical and rhetorical takedowns of President Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and others.
The annual dinner of the Gridiron Club and Foundation is marking its 133rd anniversary Saturday night. The charitable organization contributes to college scholarships and journalistic organizations with an evening of humorous give-and-take between the press and the people they cover.
Trump accepted an invitation to this year's dinner, his first. The event traces its history to 1885, the year President Grover Cleveland refused to attend. Every president since has come to at least one Gridiron.
In remarks released ahead of the event, the club's president, David Lightman, congressional editor for McClatchy News, assured the president that the crowd was "way bigger than Cleveland's."......

...Just hours before the dinner, Trump fired off a tweet at the national press saying: "Mainstream Media in U.S. is being mocked all over the world. They've gone CRAZY!"

Trump linked to a story by a conservative pundit saying Trump and his family are victims of "unparalleled" attacks by the press

When people have made up their minds to kill themselves, what are you going to do? No amount of counseling will convince them otherwise if they're that dead set on it. No pun intended.

Anon at 4:45 makes a valid point, imho. A person determined to commit suicide will find a way. A gun is just one of the many ways people have used to off themselves. Once a person enters the suicide trance state of mind, that person is unreachable. The only course of action at that time that may prevent a suicide is to hogtie that person and get someone to admit him/her, however unwillingly, to a locked psychiatric ward with visual checks like every 5 minutes. I haven't worked on a hotline, and I'm not dissing them, but I was a roomie with a woman who was in the hospital because of a suicide attempt. She was released after a few weeks. And was readmitted not long after because of, you guessed it, attempted suicide. There is an excellent book about suicide written by a psychologist named Kay Redfield Jamieson, Night Falls Fast. I remember most the story of a husband who had reached a point where he could no longer cope. He slashed his throat with an electric carving knife. In bed. With his wife beside him. So one doesn't need a gun to get relief from a level of pain that has become too great for a person to bear. And a gun doesn't cause the overwhelming sense of endless pain that can lead to suicide.

"WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A man fatally shot himself in the head along the north fence of the White House on Saturday, the U.S. Secret Service said in a statement.

Authorities were withholding the man's name until relatives were notified.

The Secret Service said the man approached the White House fence along Pennsylvania Avenue shortly before noon EST, pulled out a handgun and fired several shots. None of the shots appeared to have been directed at the White House.

President Donald Trump was in Florida at the time and was briefed on the incident, a White House spokesman said.

There were no other injuries, police said.

Pedestrian and vehicle traffic around the White House were blocked off by police, which is routine in such incidents.

The Washington Metropolitan Police Department will lead the investigation of the shooting, the Secret Service said in the statement."

  8. Unfortunately, this won’t be the last.

I think Trump will have more people taking their lives in front of the White House than any other president. A very sad “record” for him to break.
