The March For Our Lives takes over DC. |
This..this...was like nothing I had ever seen before.
Now don't get me wrong, I was blown away by the Women's March right after Trump's inauguration.
But this protest, led by these children, was fucking amazing!
Before I left to join protesters here in town..

...I watched in awe as these young people around the country, and the world, put my intermittent activism to shame.
It seemed as if every one of these students was born to change our world, and I was blown away by their passion, their determination, and their grace in the face of ugly adversity.Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School student Delaney Tarr at #MarchForOurLives rally: "We are here to call out every single politician...they know that if there is no assault weapons ban passed then we will vote them out." https://t.co/rFLdpVwg4i pic.twitter.com/0P2SJK912m— ABC News Politics (@ABCPolitics) March 24, 2018

Yes the students had some very talented, and charismatic back up.

But in the end this was the student's march, and it was they who stole the show.
And for my money this incredible moment from Emma Gonzalez was the most powerful of all. (Wait for it.)
Watching this damn near broke my heart.Emma Gonzalez stayed on stage at the D.C. #MarchForOurLives rally for 6 minutes and 20 seconds - the duration of the Parkland shooting. https://t.co/B7yFTn23Nz pic.twitter.com/jdyYagtZCO— ABC News (@ABC) March 24, 2018
I am not going to lie, I was choked up and leaky eyed for most of the day today.
But I was also incredibly reassured that the future of this country is in some of the most capable hands imaginable.
And even some of our leaders from the past recognize that.
Michelle and I are so inspired by all the young people who made today’s marches happen. Keep at it. You’re leading us forward. Nothing can stand in the way of millions of voices calling for change.— Barack Obama (@BarackObama) March 24, 2018
However our current leader remained unimpressed.Listening to the students from Parkland and across the country today is a reminder of what is possible when our future is in the right hands, and when we match inspiration with determination. https://t.co/fhiEBIw15B— Hillary Clinton (@HillaryClinton) March 24, 2018

President Trump arrived at the Trump International Golf Club in Florida as hundreds of thousands of students gathered in Washington, D.C., to call on him and Congress to act on gun control.
Still hiding out from the truth, huh Mr. Trump?

Now these young people of voting age need to exercise that right, in every single election that is available to them; city, county, borough, state, municipality, national, any of them and all of them.
ReplyDeleteThey need to not just vote party but vote for those candidates that have eschewed big corporate dollars, especially NRA dollars, regardless of party.
There is hope if they put action and education behind their marching.
I believe they will. Some are already 18. They'll be voting. They'll be encouraging their peers to vote. They'll be registering voters. They'll be campaigning for their candidates and those candidates will NOT be taking NRA money. Those candidates will be for gun regulations. They will be working from the local to state to federal level to see that those candidates that are against them (I'm looking at YOU Marco Rubio) will NOT be re-elected.
DeleteYeah, those politicians that belittled these "children" should be very afraid.
Those that can't vote no will be voting in 2020.
The Democrats better find a charismatic, young, savvy progressive candidate that is NOT in the pocket of the NRA to run in 2020. Man or woman, white, black, hispanic, asian, gay, straight, christian, muslim, hindu, buddhist will make no difference to them. But they are not going to vote for another 70 year old in the White House. Or 60s. Even 50 would be pushing it. Late 40s would be best. Experience but also youth.
Sorry, but these kids are not going to be voting for an old white man, whether it's Trump or Biden.
It is funny you seem to think you own all these young adults votes. Is it much like the Democrats think they still own black persons and their votes.
DeleteI got all teary eyed as well,Gryph. Our children shouldnt be forced to attend school with targets on their backs. My 18 yr old grandson will be going to the polls with Nana this fall.
DeleteP.O.D - Youth of the Nation
ReplyDeleteWe are. We are.
Youth of the Nation.
Damn straight Gryph. I had the privilege of being there. Every one of those kids is a testament to the strength of the human spirit, the power of eloquent anger, and the importance of taking action. Now.
ReplyDeleteIt’s a lot of fun here on the blog but I need to step up and help them get rid of the assholes in Congress who care more about $$$ than kids’ lives. What a day.
i wonder what one of those assholes might do if it was his child?
DeleteIt's like a breath of fresh air from old worn out ideas by a bunch of bought people running our country.
ReplyDeleteI wish it's like this until there is change we can live with in accord. Thank you young people from a 58 year old.
"...Thank you young people from a 58 year old."
DeleteI lived through the Vietnam era. I lived through the protests of that era. I can only say there was NOTHING in that day which could measure up to what is happening now with all the passion... and the anger... ...and the love being fiercely displayed around the world.
I lived. Which is more than I can say for the children being slaughtered because some people prefer to make money instead of doing their job.
Thank you young people from someone about to turn 70.
Leland, I came of age Vietnam in a small university town and this is SO much more than Vietnam protests were. Thanks for bringing it up! Turning 61 this year.
Deletei am 58, too. don't remember anything like this. some one had to stand up. spoke to a gun owner the other day and he is not getting rid of his guns but will make sure they don't fall into the hands of some one who might abuse them. it's a start.
DeleteI'm 52 so grew up in late 70's and 80's and it just seemed like our generation had no worries, sure we had Reagan to make fun of and the ever looming threat of nuclear annihilation from the cold war threat, but life in general was carefree. We didn't even have to worry about AIDS during our high school years, much less worry about being shot while at school.
DeleteI feel for these modern kids. Being a kid is supposed to be a worry free and fun experience, then after college you get serious and try your best to "adult" but these poor kids are growing up in a war zone and having to grow up way too fast.
At 74, I agree that this movement is truly awe inspiring and represents so much more than anything we've protested before. But, had it not been for the Women's March in January 2017, this might well not have happened. We Americans are not afraid any more to take to the streets - in a dignified way to express our beliefs and feelings about the most important, basic interests a country could have. It's amazing to me to see this country rise together. I think we are all finally understanding President Obama's exhortations during his presidency and beyond to take an active part and be responsible citizens.
DeleteBeaglemom
8:38; carefree? Are you kidding? I'm the same age as you are, and I grew up in a Cold War world where we could all be nuked into oblivion at any time (and it almost happened at least once), lead in gasoline was destroying the environment, the planet was heating up. We lived through the Iran hostage crisis and other overt signs that the USA was no longer the good guy. We lived through double-digit inflation and the loss of jobs--songs like Allentown were popular for a reason.
DeleteSo it appears that 8:38 sees the glass half full and 3:18 half empty.
DeleteSo people who feel threatened are for the guns. And those that are happy and content don't feel the need for guns.
So Republicans on the whole feel unsafe in this world, and Democrats, those happy go lucky saps, feel relatively safe.
There is a doctor from Vancouver who is on youtube named Gabor Mate'. He specializes in addiction and behavior. He said that when we were in the womb and later when we came to this world our stressed out parents gave us a sense that the world was not safe. And a lot of people born into this sense of no emotional connection became ADHD and developed addicted behaviors.
My point is that this seems to be the case with the half empty, half full people.
We need healing not only as a nation but in this world. Guns are the tools of the bullies. Especially those with mental issues, and ego problems. And our constitution is being used also so that bully man and bully woman can walk around with their guns in places like Barnes and Noble and no one can say nuttin' about it. Ok. That is an American right. Just don't be so obnoxious about it. Because you and I know that guns in Barnes and Noble is stupid. But like I said, that's your' right so I turn back to the book shelf. May you have a good long safe life.
But don't look down on these young people who don't feel safe in their schools. They too have a right to fight for their survival. And as I said earlier, I am old. I saw all that civil rights movement, the assassination of JFK, Martin Luther King, Bobby Kennedy, John Lennon, and I can't even count the killings of all these children in schools.
I saw rich powerful people war mongering us lower subjects like in the Iraq war so that their upper lords could get more money. All in the name of what? Oil? Bullets? Why would I go to war for those? And yet because we allowed the upper rungs to dictate to us, people were sent to loose life and limbs. The constitution is being held hostage by bullies and war mongers.
Just a heads up in case you don't know but Trump and Co. are going to be worst than Bush and Co.
The Trump and Co. if you care to look are into business. More money. Money translates into more guns, more wars. And our constitution has been stomped beneath the foot of the likes of Donald Trump in the name of money.
Putin is a large part of this as when his country went under all that ideology back when the Berlin Wall fell, I think Putin lost his mind and swore revenge on the like of democracy and he stumbled upon how easy it is to take and take. We are the sheeple. No longer the people.
Let's let the young have their say since they have been greatly affected by guns. Just maybe if given the chance and encouragement, they will stumble upon a solution that pleases both the glass half full people and the glass half empty people.
3:18 AM Truth. I haven't forgotten the fear when we had drills to hide under our little desks, as if it would save us from an atomic bomb. The Cuban Missile Crisis was real. You don't forget fear like that.
DeleteI can't imagine what kids today are experiencing when the fear is constant year after year. It could be someone you know with an AR-15. If you survive, you may have the visions of your friends being torn up, in pieces.

ReplyDeleteHe is the best. MAGA!
DeleteAs proud as I am of the young adults, I am ashamed of boomers and the previous generation who allowed our country to go down like this. It is not that some of us did not try, it is those that were greedy and hateful that enabled it that should be held accountable and called out.
ReplyDelete3X"There is no comparison. The March For Our Lives crowd blew anything that Donald Trump has ever done out of the water. Trump should have been in the White House for the March, but instead, he is spending the weekend in Florida playing golf, because this is a president who can’t handle protest, dissent, or criticism. The marchers are demanding gun control and promising a revolution."

ReplyDeleteAnd of course the communists Hillary and Obama chimed in.
Of course lol troll stopped by and contributed nothing of substance. Take a seat bitch. The next generation has got this.
DeleteWhat did $arah do, lol troll, go out and buy another gun for TAWD as she did in honor of Sandy Hook? There’s your attention for the night. Sleep with one eye open; everyone is coming for you. What will you do? What WILL you do? Sheesh.

DeleteAt least you are admitting the Democrats are turning into communists 8:26 lol! That will help in upcoming elections.
Hell Kieth Ellison just spoke about the Government mandating maximum pay for CEO's, here comes your communism! Good Luck dumb-asses!
Yeah he is well on his way to making his fortune following Clinton's footsteps, 9:59. It is cute that you all think he cares.
DeleteAs usual, the right wing Fascists don't know the difference between Communism and Socialism.
DeleteOT OT OT but too interesting not to mention: the supervisor of the Pee Pond's resident doctor has asked for his license to be suspended (even reporting him to police) and he has had to undergo a 3 day psych evaluation.
ReplyDeleteOnce they uncover his long-term Palinism he is toast, though I suspect he has committed health insurance fraud trying to bring down Obamacare- let's face it, being a Palinista is an indication you're not long on brains and that sort of stupid thing aligns with their once stated desire to pull up at the side of the road and sit in their idling cars all day, out of sheer hatred for the environment...

Who was it (politician?) that said, paraphrasing, "be quiet, the adults are talking?" There's their big eff YOU back and they didn't even have to swear.
ReplyDeleteI’ve got a quote for that pol. It’s from the book “The Help”. And it describes these brilliant, active, and motivated young people to a T:
Delete“Courage sometimes skips a generation. Thank you for bringing it back to our family.”
Write to your current Congress Critter and ask him/her if they've taken NRA donations - will they now vow not to?
ReplyDeleteMy problem with that? Aides that read first and said critter may never see what you said. Form letter reply back, "thank you for sharing!" Ugh and UGH. Voted OUT is what they need to be come November.
DeleteAnon at 7:15 pm is right. The only way to deal with politicians who accept NRA money is to vote them OUT.
DeleteBeaglemom
I was impressed by this march and the young people who stood and spoke with poise and passion. I certainly hope that this is the tipping point towards true gun safety. The NRA is a terrorist-supporting organization. Any mass shooting is an act of terrorism. The NRA refuses to support the ban of assault weapons. In doing so, it is favoring death over life for the people of the USA.
ReplyDeleteCoward Trump runs to Mar A Lago rather than face the American people. We all know he is a useless chickenshit who only gives a damn about himself.
ReplyDeleteTrump doesn't even try to hide his lack of caring as long as his shit hole Mar A Lago is raking in money at our expense.Another 3 million dollars wasted to prop up his business! How "F'ing"hard would it be to form a commitee to try to come up with some kind of solution? At least it would give the appearance of trying and he's too stupid to even do that.
You can march all you want but VOTE!
He not only ran to his safe space, his motorcade took a different route to avoid the reality. He's such a chicken shit.
Deletehttp://thehill.com/homenews/administration/380109-trumps-motorcade-changes-routes-amid-florida-protests
Trumps afraid of children and his own shadow. Whatta waste of skin.
DeleteHas Sarah or any of the other Failin' Palins commented on the march? When they do . . . as they will . . . no doubt it will be a thing of beauty.
ReplyDeleteScreech couldnt give a flying fuck about the nations kids. Shes probably home right now masturbating with her pink gun. Bet she would get a rill bang out of it if it was loaded. Cheap thrills in Palinville.
DeleteWhat's with the desite to own, to use, any gun? What is it within a man that that desire itself exists?
ReplyDeleteSimply, a winky dinky weenus. They think that all these guns will make their dicks get bigger.
DeleteWell for one thing it is fun. For some it puts food on the table, for some it provides protection. Plenty of people have collections that are never even fired. But why is it your business anyways?
DeleteIt’s our business because our children are being killed because you think “it is fun” to have a gun.
DeleteBut since you raised it, can you tell me exactly how many people in 2018 use their guns to put food on the table? Seriously, any facts on how widespread that is? Yeah I didn’t think so.
1:19 AM
DeleteThis is not about no guns or hunters without guns. You are being manipulated if you think it is about people not having guns to hunt or sport.
It has been common for nuts to use automatic, machine gun type, AR, assault weapons.
Check out the nutty Palin family and their son. He is a textbook case.
Should people like Track Palin be unsupervised, not monitored and allowed to have any war weapon he wants?
He is a sport hunter from a hunting family, does that mean he should be allowed to have any war weapon he wants?
If he is proved sane and safe he can hunt with a regular rifle. Sorry people like Track Palin do not need assault or war weapons for any reason.
Did your children get killed by a psychopath that was attempted to be involuntarily admitted into a psychiatric facility by several persons, but the system failed 7:20?
Deletei am so proud of our children and so grateful to all the people from other countries who marched with them. this is truly inspriring. a child shall lead us, indeed.
ReplyDeleteWas it Rubio or Ryan take on the march that both sides need to listen to each other? I take that to mean we are suppose to listen to more propganda from the NRA terrorists.
ReplyDeleteSorry we are sick of listening to their lame excuses and being held hostage to cowards with guns.
In fact some of those cowards showed up to protest the students with AK 15s so that they could protect themselves in case the students got violent, why didn't the cowards stay home if they were so concerned about violence?
We saw a dozen or so in AZ and I understand they had security with them, meaning the cops were watching them closely because they only came to try to make trouble. Typically when this sort of thing happens it's only a small group, the freaks that enjoy some close attention from law enforcement. I keep hoping one of them will shoot off some other guy's dick in broad daylight in public. That would sure be entertaining.
DeleteYes it would.
DeleteWere any Palin's at the rallies? Or were they at home drinking, screwing, cussing, and holding bibles?
ReplyDeleteUpdate: Track was at home, per GPS on his ankle bracelet.
The outstanding kids that have an amazing movement starting up are Piper Palin's age.
DeleteIt is Piper that should be caring about students and schools and the assault weapon issues.
Willow is old and has always been a dud, she can't do anything but the occasional dog styling and coloring. You can count on Track to remain the proverbial total loser. Bristol is a made up character, like Aunt Jemima, that can only sell overpriced nonsense on social media now.
The only Palin that is left for Sarah use to be proud of is Piper.
It all rests on Piper's shoulders now.
I doubt she cares, she seems fine working the parents for her temporal teen needs. She doesn't give a damn about our country, schools, other kids.
Piper is a Palin.
Trick needs to be kept on a short leash like the dog thst he is.
DeleteShow us your cock, Trump. We've already seen your ho's tits.
ReplyDeleteBut enough about melania.

Today was amazing. And I was so glad that the only people who spoke were the kids. The musical artists were people who had suffered gun violence in their lives and/or who were artists the kids really related to--the kids were all out there singing the lyrics to some songs I barely knew or hadn't heard before (I'm getting old!). Somehow, it didn't hit me until this afternoon that the name "March for Our lives" plays off the anti-choice yearly "March for Life."
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that someone noted publicly that the March for Our Lives included more people than trump's inauguration. How's trump going to spin that Monday morning?
ReplyDeleteI am so proud that America's young people, their teachers their families came out in droves yesterday. The message to Congress and state legislatures is clear and simple: Do something effective and long-lasting about gun control.
Beaglemom
On Bristols ghost-written blog, "she" is ranting and moaning about teenagers objecting to being shot in school. The nerve of them! By 16 they should be knocked-up washouts just like she was!
ReplyDeleteDo you think Sarah told Bristol that she cares about the teens of Parkland and their objections?
DeleteIt is more like Bristol would be jealous and want to be a teen. Flattery is the best compliment and she flatters teens when she dresses like a teenager.
I notice wanna be a teen forever, Bristol, dresses as a teen. She can't help it, she is in no way age appropriate. Since she doesn't write, it is all done for her (even the Teami commercials).
Bristol does participate in posing for ads and photos. Her style choice is pre-teen and teen. That says more than all the words Sarah's ghostwriters can say for her.
Indicating that Bristol can't grow up and Sarah's helpers can't make her dress her age or like a grown up mother of three. However, at almost 30, she is not a well versed teen activist. She is stuck as the deadpan puppet they try to give life. Bristol continues to be used in her teenage era self.
From what I've seen of Sarah's Facebook, she is not mentioning #Emma4Change. Sarah's job is to trash David Hogg. Is she still working for the NRA and Russia? She is still doing the charlatan evangelical work.
If anyone notices Sarah trashing and degrading Emma Gonzalez I would like to know. Also the writers for the blog with Bristol's name. Are they taking down Emma in anyway? Her speech at the March?
Bristol and mom are mentally stunted. They never evolved beyond the age of 14. Dumb as a box of rocks must be a family trait.
DeleteBooks not bullets.
ReplyDeleteHere is a crazy idea. How about making student wear uniforms, all the same. And have very strict disciplinary rules. How about teaching these kids the reading, writing, math, and science skills, as well as how to grow to be responsible citizens. Just an idea. Seems like the inmates have been running the system, and the system is falling apart.
ReplyDelete
