Republicans were a no show at gun control town halls around the country organized by the Parkland students.

Courtesy of Mother Jones:

The organizers of last month’s March for Our Lives have taken their movement to town halls across the country and invited congressional lawmakers—who have returned to their districts for a two-week recess—to discuss action on gun control. According to the Town Hall Project, more than 130 of these meetings are taking place, with most of the events happening on Saturday.

Though invited, no Republicans appeared at any town halls, and many of the forums featured empty chairs to symbolize their absences.

Mother Jones‘ Kara Voght attended the town hall at Virginia’s 10th congressional district, where every Democratic candidate seeking to unseat Republican incumbent Rep. Barbara Comstock showed up to discuss gun legislation. Comstock, unsurprisingly, refused to attend.

In town hall after town hall the Democratic candidates showed up in force, while nary a Republican was spotted anywhere.

I know that the Republicans are praying that this is a passing fad and that gun control will not figure prominently in the next election cycle, but I do not think they have been listening to the young people for whom school safety and gun control are taking center stage.

BEWARE!! There is not one Republican that is NOT guilty today. Each of them have SOLD out Americans for many years. They have been loyal to their hate and fox no news only. They are as corrupt as trump, the face of their party. trump. There is NO mercy for their demise. Never forget what they have done to America over the years. Never forget how they ignored the danger of trump and NRA. Never forget.

    Barbara Comstock?

Hmmmm...some call her a certified RWNJ...

She also appears in the beginning of the Geoffrey Dunn Article from May of 2011 titled ‘Watermelon Roll’: More Racism from ‘Team Sarah’.

"There is something very ugly happening out there in the hinterlands these days—a brewing cauldron of racist anger being directed at President-elect Barack Obama as he and his family get ready to move into the White House. It’s a mean-spirited bigotry that is finding its way onto the internet and right-wing blogs across the country. It makes for a troubling portrait of a significant cross-section of the American polity as Obama prepares to take the oath of office as the 44th President of these United States.

Nowhere have these tendencies been more out-front and prominent than at TeamSarah.org, a website organized by “a coalition of women dedicated to advancing the values that Sarah Palin represents in the political process.” Men, according to an exclamatory notice, are welcome, too.

The web site is funded—and hosted—by the Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund Project, a national right-wing, pro-life Political Action Committee headed up by one Marjorie Dannenfelser, an ardent pro-life advocate. I know about Dannenfelser and the Susan B. Anthony group because earlier this year, the San Francisco Chronicle pitted Ms. Dannenfelser and me against each other in an op-ed page debate over the qualifications of Governor Palin to speak for families with special-needs children. Needless to say, Ms. Dannensfelser championed the activities of Governor Palin in this regard, while I did not. I have a special needs child and I find the idea of Palin speaking on my child’s behalf an absolute outrage. No friend of special needs families is she.

So I was not surprised to find that the Anthony group was behind the Team Sarah web site. According to Ms. Dannenfelser “Team Sarah was formed to capitalize off the enthusiasm of the Palin Vice Presidential candidacy with the goal of reaching women voters and urging them to support John McCain and Governor Sarah Palin. Our goal was to win the Election. Several prominent women are involved with the project, including D.C. veteran Barbara Comstock, former First Lady candidate Jeri Thompson, FRC Action Vice President Connie Mackey, and actress Janine Turner, formerly (appropriately) of Northern Exposure.” Now they are carrying the banner of Palin for President in 2012. (According to their website, membership is 62,639 and counting.)"

There was no town hall in our district. Our representative, GOP retired some-kind-of-Marine-almost-general, is about as cowardly as they come and would never be willing to come before a group of constituents to discuss anything. Even during his campaign, he was a frequent no-show at events featuring him and his opponent. He preferred meeting with deep pockets in the state capital. About 87% of the contributions he received were not from residents of his district. Among them, of course, was the NRA.

OT? "In preparation for a likely contentious confirmation process, former CIA Director and Secretary of State nominee Mike Pompeo is turning to every possible resource for help—including recent secretaries of state who he lambasted while in Congress.

Politico reported Tuesday that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has offered help and advice, despite Pompeo’s legacy of flagellating her over her response to the 2012 attacks in Benghazi. She reportedly told him in a recent phone call to curb the exodus of career diplomats from the department, a trend that began under Pompeo’s predecessor, Rex Tillerson.

Pompeo reportedly reached out to former Secretary of State John Kerry as well, though it is not clear if Kerry responded. Pompeo once liked a tweet calling Kerry a “traitor.”

Per Politico, Pompeo faces an uphill battle in his confirmation process. The Senate Foreign Relations Committee is split 10 to 11 with a Republican majority. Democrats are worried about Pompeo stoking Trump’s pugilistic instincts, and at least one Republican, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), is threatening to withhold his vote over Pompeo’s support of the Iraq War and torture interrogation methods.

Due to this unfavorable composition, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell may bypass the committee altogether and bring the nomination directly to a floor vote, according to Politico.

Pompeo’s confirmation hearing will be held on Thursday."

"What a wonderful performance! Sara Bareilles sings the song well with her voice, but more than that, she captures the conundrum on Mary Magdalene’s feelings about her love for a man who is unlike any other man she has known. How do you love a person, in a sexual way, who has changed your whole perspective about life? She loves him physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Jesus is all about love. This song captures that message!"
