"I got into trouble during the campaign saying something about the President which I still think is true," Zakaria told Don Lemon on "CNN Tonight." "I think the President is somewhat indifferent to things that are true or false."
Asked about whether he thought Trump actually believed he was wiretapped, Zakaria contended that Trump's success is based on a lifetime of falsehoods.
"He has spent his whole life bulls**tting," Zakaria said. "He has succeeded by bulls**tting. He has gotten the presidency by bulls**tting. It's very hard to tell somebody at that point that bulls**t doesn't work. Because look at the results. He sees something, he doesn't particularly care if it's true or not, he just put it out there."
Zakaria highlighted Trump's brushing off a question about the White House citing a Fox News report, that claimed British intelligence tapped his phones at President Obama's request.
I know we all realize this to be true, and are just happy that the news folks are finally saying it out loud, but just think about what this means for a minute.
Essentially Zakaria is accurately saying that the president of the United States is completely full of shit, and that he has no intention of ever being truthful.
It is not a case of a politician stretching the truth, massaging the facts, or lying by omission. This is right to your face lying with virtually every single fucking word that comes out of your mouth.
This is pathological.
And what it means is that the American people, and the world, cannot trust ANYTHING that this president, and by extension this White House, says about ANYTHING.
Therefore since this man is the the most visible representative of the United States our country no longer has any credibility, about anything, anywhere in the world.
Go ahead, tell me again how untrustworthy Hillary Clinton was again.
President Barack Obama opened up about racism he faced throughout his presidency in an interview with CNN’s Fareed Zakaria on Wednesday.
“Are there folks whose primary concern about me has been that I seem foreign ― the other? Are those who champion the birther movement feeding off of bias?” Obama asked rhetorically. “Absolutely.”
Along with interviewing Obama, Zakaria narrated segments of the CNN special. He pointed out that the president “doesn’t see racism in mainstream opposition to him, but he does see it on the fringes.”
”I think there’s a reason attitudes about my presidency among whites in northern states are very different from whites in southern states,” Obama told Zakaria.
The way this great man was treated through both his terms in office, simply because of the color of his skin, is something for which every American should feel shame.
And the fact that the man who most vocally attacked him, undermined his legitimacy to be President, and essentially labeled him as un-American, is the man who will now replace him in the White House, is a stain on our nation that no amount of white washing will ever get out.
History is going to treat President Obama extremely well, and I think that in a very short amount of time even his critics are going to wish that they had treated him with more respect, especially when they compare his presidency to the one that is now looming before us.
We are just three years after the greatest banking crisis since the 1930s. I think it was brought on by excesses on the part of the financial industry and the financial industry was bailed out at the public’s expense and risk and yet we’re still in an economic crisis. And somehow the discussion of who are these guys, why are we supporting them, why haven’t they paid more for this, what are the reforms that’s going to stop this from happening again, all that disappeared from the debate.
We have been arguing about who’s going to cut Social Security and what about that budget deficit? And we lost the whole thread of the core issue in our society right now. And these protesters, who are a mix of all sorts of people, suddenly brought that back into the center of our national debate. And that’s an enormously positive contribution.
This is also why OWS is NOT the same as the Teabaggers, who seemed filled with anger, but it was an unfocused anger that seemed to be directed at the President even though what they attributed their anger to had little to do with him and his policies.
Well at least it did at first, until they were co-opted by the Koch brothers and Republican party and re-educated to be angry at "Obamacare" and the Obama stimulus bill.
I think OWS is here to stay and that is scares the hell out of the conservatives, as evidence by Andrew Breitbart's craven attempts to damage their brand
I don't often watch CNN, but I DO like Zakaria. I like his very calm a cool way of talking about the issues, and the fact that, like Rachel Maddow on MSNBC, he always demonstrates a complete understanding of the actual facts he is talking about.
I also have to agree with Zakaria that it is far MORE likely that Glenn Beck is a danger to this country, than the actual "terrorists" in the world who might one day attack us. Beck is damaging the intelligence and rational thinking of Americans EVERY SINGLE DAY!
In my opinion that should identify him, and that ridiculous cable station he works for, as the REAL terrorists.
Did anybody find anything wrong with Mr. Zakaria's logic?
Neither did I.
But I think I know the answer to his question. The reason that we remain killing and dying in Afghanistan, even though there really is no valid reason to continue killing and dying, is because of politics.
Because President Obama and the Democrats know full well that the Republicans are waiting with drool dripping from their slathering maws for the moment when Obama has to announce that we can no longer justify fighting that war. One nano-second after he does that the GOP will pounce.
"We were winning that war until President Obama took office, and now look!" They will say.
"We knew the Democrats would cut and run once they took power!" They will complain.
"Just like we said, the Dems are soft on terror and cannot keep America safe!" Yhey will boast.
They will throw everything they can think of at Obama, and damn him to hell for making the only decision that will ultimately be left to him. How, and when we bring our troops home from Afghanistan.
He cannot wait until we win, for there is no clear victory to be had. He cannot wait until they elect an honest leader because the country is too corrupt to produce one. He can do nothing except wait until his second term and do what he, and every Democrat, know will virtually ensure a GOP victory in 2018.
This is the trap that Dick Cheney and Karl Rove set for the Democratic President they knew was coming after eight disastrous years of Republican control, and it is working perfectly.
Even the so-called anti-big government Teabaggers dare not question the incredible amount of money we continue to spend on the two wars we are currently fighting. And to make sure that subject will not be broached the Republicans have recruited Sarah Palin to walk the Baggers back from throwing military spending onto the pile of government programs they want cut because they believe they are draining this country's resources.
Something has to be done urgently to stop the out of control Obama-Reid-Pelosi spending machine, and no government agency should be immune from budget scrutiny. We must make sure, however, that we do nothing to undermine the effectiveness of our military.
When President Obama came into office, he inherited a military that was winning in Iraq. He inherited loyal allies and strong alliances. And thanks to the lamestream media pawing and purring over him, he had the benefit of unparalleled global popularity. What an advantage! So their basic foreign policy outlines should have been clear. Commit to the War on Terror. Commit to winning – not ending, but winning the war in Afghanistan.
It is in America’s and the world’s best interests for our country to remain the dominant military superpower, but under President Obama’s leadership that dominance may be slipping away. It’s the result of an agenda that reeks of complacency and defeatism.
Of course not one word of that was actually written by Sarah Palin. But she was recruited to put her hoofprint on the post and claim it as her own. And she will gladly stand before Bowling conventions and Teabagger friendly political rallies and spew the talking points contained within without really understanding a single word of them, but believing in their inherent rightness just like the good little Pentecostal she was raised to be. (She does not understand the bible either, but GOD DAMN IT she believes every word written on its blessed pages. King James version only of course.)
So WHY are we in Afghanistan? Because there is no way out for the President without committing political Hara Kiri. That is why.
And there will continue to be no escape for him until the American people finally stand up and demand an end to that war. But how can they when they are too busy being fed misinformation by Fox News, and allowing themselves to be frightened into spending all of their savings purchasing overpriced gold to head off the coming financial collapse? Sadly the majority of Americans seem more content with hearing a never ending stream of lies issuing forth from the lacquered lips of the Fox News bimbettes than to hear the unvarnished truth coming from the always professional Rachel Maddow.
Of course, if the Teabaggers were actually the honest "anti-big government" organization they claim to be, THEY would be the ones standing on the streets demanding that we bring our troops home, and insisiting that we stop sending trillions of dollars overseas to be wasted on unnecessary military actions or stolen by corrupt Afghanistan government officials. But honesty is simply NOT a virtue of this particular movement, as demonstrated brilliantly by Bill Maher way back in March of this year.
