Personally I think that any late night comedian who inspires this kind of anger from Trump supporters, is doing a hell of a job.

Just watch how quickly his ratings start going up. 

So yes we now have Jeff Sessions as our new Attorney General. And the bad news just keeps on coming.

The Senate on Wednesday confirmed Sen. Jeff Sessions to be attorney general in the Trump administration despite fierce Democratic opposition to the Alabama Republican over his record on civil rights and immigration. 

The 52-47 nearly party-line vote capped weeks of divisive battles over Sessions, an early supporter of President Donald Trump and one of the Senate's most conservative lawmakers. After the vote was announced, Sessions' Republican colleagues applauded the outcome while barely a handful of Democrats did the same. 

In a post-vote valedictory speech, Sessions alluded to the bitter partisanship and wished for more collegiality. 

"Denigrating people who disagree with us, I think, is not a healthy trend for our body," he said.

That last remark was of course a shot at the heroic Senator Elizabeth Warren who was shut down while trying to read a letter from Coretta Scott King on the Senate floor that King wrote when Sessions was being considered for an appointment as a federal judge.

At this point I really have serious doubts that the Democrats have the numbers to stop ANY of Trump's future appointments. Which includes his Supreme Court nominee.

That does not mean that we don't stop fighting, int fact it means that we need to start fighting harder.

However we must realize that Trump is damned and determined to sabotage the government and roll back progress just as far as he can in the next two years.

Which means we better have our ducks in a row for the 2018 election cycle because that will be the first time that we really have a shot at slowing him down, if not completely stopping him.

And our presidential candidate in 2020 better be a fucking star, because we are going to need one.

After he lied on Sept. 16 that he was not the person responsible for the birtherism campaign to delegitimize Barack Obama’s presidency, POLITICO chose to spend a week fact-checking Trump. We fact-checked Hillary Clinton over the same time. 

We subjected every statement made by both the Republican and Democratic candidates — in speeches, in interviews and on Twitter — to our magazine’s rigorous fact-checking process. The conclusion is inescapable: Trump’s mishandling of facts and propensity for exaggeration so greatly exceed Clinton’s as to make the comparison almost ludicrous. 

Though few statements match the audacity of his statement about his role in questioning Obama’s citizenship, Trump has built a cottage industry around stretching the truth. According to POLITICO’s five-day analysis, Trump averaged about one falsehood every three minutes and 15 seconds over nearly five hours of remarks. 

In raw numbers, that’s 87 erroneous statements in five days.

87 erroneous comments, ie lies, in five days?

Yes I knew Trump lied, but damn!

Now to be fair Politico did the same kind of analysis with Hillary this last week as well:

In raw numbers, Clinton made eight erroneous statements in five days.

Now Hillary did not do nearly as much talking last week as Trump, and Politico attempts to play the "fair and balanced" card by suggesting that Hillary plays a little loose with the truth as well.

However if you read through some of the "lies" that Hillary supposedly told you get examples like this:

Trump’s “economic plans would ... include an estimated $4 billion tax cut for his own family just by eliminating the estate tax.”

The problem with this is that the Clinton campaign is using the numbers that Trump himself uses for his wealth, 10 billion, instead of the 1.2 or 3 billion that Bloomberg News estimates. Which means she is "lying" because Trump is lying. Or something like that.

However the lies that Trump was caught telling are mostly whoppers, and often have very little in common with actual facts.

No matter how you look at it Donald Trump referring to Hillary Clinton as a liar is laugh out loud funny.

Unless of course people take it seriously, which sadly many actually do.

The great George Takei takes on the anti-gay Tennessee Republicans as only he can.

"Takei pride" I love it!

George Takei really is a national treasure.

The great George Takei calls Justice Clarence Thomas "a clown in blackface." Does not regret it. Update!

So as you can imagine the response to that utterance from the Right was both swift and aggressive.

However instead of walking back his remarks, Takei defended them:  

A few fans have written wondering whether I intended to utter a racist remark by referring to Justice Thomas as a "clown in blackface." 

"Blackface" is a lesser known theatrical term for a white actor who blackens his face to play a black buffoon. In traditional theater lingo, and in my view and intent, that is not racist. It is instead part of a racist history in this country. 

I feel Justice Thomas has abdicated and abandoned his African American heritage by claiming slavery did not strip dignity from human beings. He made a similar remark about the Japanese American internment, of which I am a survivor. A sitting Justice of the Supreme Court ought to know better. 

I have expressed my full thoughts on the matter here.

First I have to say that I fucking LOVE George Takei who has done a great deal to support the LGBT community and equal rights in this country. 

Even if you are not a Star Trek fan it is all but impossible not to admire George Takei.

So I will say that while I personally would not have used the "blackface" comment, as a gay Japanese man who spent time in an internment camp during World War 2, I think that George Takei is one of the few people who can say it without losing a shred of credibility.

And yes Clarence Thomas is a fraud, and a disgrace to African American people in this country.

Update: It looks like Takei did end up bowing to criticism and apologizing. 

"To Be Takei." New documentary about the life of George Takei.

Takei's life is the subject of a new documentary, "To Be Takei," which is available on Direct TV from July 3 to August 5 and will be released in theaters August 22. The film explores everything from Takei's childhood imprisonment in a Japanese internment camp to his relationship with his husband, Brad. 

"It documents my story, my life, from the time I was a child imprisoned in US camps, barbed-wire prison camps, simply because we happened to look like the people who bombed Pearl Harbor," Takei said. 

Takei preaches acceptance in diversity in every facet of life - which is why he posts "Star Wars" content as often as he shares "Star Trek" photos. 

"'Star Trek' was science fiction. 'Star Wars' is science fantasy, and that's a lot of fun too," Takei said. "We're a diverse country with many different races, many different religions, many different histories and backgrounds and we have to respect each other and that's the essential message of our documentary 'To Be Takei.'"

Seriously is there anybody who does not love George Takei?

I remember really being a fan of his during his Star Trek days, but what he is doing these days on social media is actually more impressive than the fact that as a gay Asian actor he played such in important role in an iconic television series that his still believed to this day.

By the way if you are not following George on Twitter you are really missing out.

George Takei has written a letter addressing Arizona's "Turn Away the Gay" bill.

“Dear Arizona, 

Congratulations. You are now the first state actually to pass a bill permitting businesses–even those open to the public–to refuse to provide service to LGBT people based on an individual’s “sincerely held religious belief.” This “turn away the gay” bill enshrines discrimination into the law. Your taxi drivers can refuse to carry us. Your hotels can refuse to house us. And your restaurants can refuse to serve us. 

Kansas tried to pass a similar law, but had the good sense to not let it come up for a vote. The quashing came only after the Kansas Chamber of Commerce and other traditional conservative groups came out strongly against the bill. 

But not you, Arizona. You’re willing to ostracize and marginalize LGBT people to score political points with the extreme right of the Republican Party. You say this bill protects “religious freedom,” but no one is fooled. When I was younger, people used “God’s Will” as a reason to keep the races separate, too. Make no mistake, this is the new segregation, yours is a Jim Crow law, and you are about to make yourself ground zero. 

This bill also saddens me deeply. Brad and I have strong ties to Arizona. Brad was born in Phoenix, and we vacation in Show Low. We have close friends and relatives in the state and spend weeks there annually. We even attended the Fourth of July Parade in Show Low in 2012, looking like a pair of Arizona ranchers. 

The law is breathtaking in its scope. It gives bigotry against us gays and lesbians a powerful and unprecedented weapon. But your mean-spirited representatives and senators know this. They also know that it is going to be struck down eventually by the courts. But they passed it anyway, just to make their hateful opinion of us crystal clear. 

So let me make mine just as clear. If your Governor Jan Brewer signs this repugnant bill into law, make no mistake. We will not come. We will not spend. And we will urge everyone we know–from large corporations to small families on vacation–to boycott. Because you don’t deserve our dollars. Not one red cent. 

And maybe you just never learn. In 1989, you voted down recognition of the Martin Luther King holiday, and as a result, conventions and tourists boycotted the state, and the NFL moved the Superbowl to Pasadena. That was a $500 million mistake. 

So if our appeals to equality, fairness, and our basic right to live in a civil society without doors being slammed in our face for being who we are don’t move you, I’ll bet a big hit to your pocketbook and state coffers will.

Damn, that's a good letter.

And Takei makes a very powerful point. 

If Arizona wants to discriminate against gay people then perhaps all of them, and all people who support them, should avoid Arizona and leave it to the narrow minded folks like Sarah Palin and Jan Brewer.

You know ultimately it really doesn't matter, gay acceptance is coming. And these states that are digging in their heels and threatening to hold their breath until they are allowed to gay bash again, just show themselves to be stubbornly prejudicial.

Remember it was Arizona Senator John McCain who voted AGAINST declaring Martin Luther King Jr's birthday a federal holiday back in 1983, so the state has a long history of being intolerant and behind the times.

The video was created to support Tie The Knot, an advocacy organization founded by actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson, of Modern Family fame, who also stars in the PSA, and his fiancee Justin Mikita. The group is “advocating for a more stylish and equal America,” according to its slogan, by selling bow ties and donating the proceeds to other advocacy groups fighting for marriage equality. 

In the video, Takei warns of one person “whose orientation threatens to destroy society.” He “looks normal, but he gives off clues of his prejudice with buzzwords like ‘pro-family,’ ‘traditional marriage’ or ‘pole-smoker.’” The PSA highlights to hypocrisy of a character who has been divorced twice but wants to deny the right of other people to marry just because they happen to be the same sex.

I laughed so hard at the end of this that I almost choked.

Newly out of the closet teen meets his idol, George Takei.

Just a few days ago Jacob Rudolph had come out to his class while accepting an award as best "class actor" in front of his classmates:  

When Jacob Rudolph received the award for "class actor" at his high school, the New Jersey teenager took the opportunity to make a real-life announcement. "I've been acting every single day of my life," he said. "You see me acting the part of 'straight' Jacob, when I am in fact LGBT." He then defined the acronym, which stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender. Jacob's father says Jacob is still exploring whether he's exclusively attracted to one sex and used that acronym out of solidarity. Jacob's classmates gave him a standing ovation, and his father — who helped edit his speech before posting the video to YouTube — said it took "more guts than anything I've ever attempted in my life." 

The other day when being interviewed by Anderson Cooper Jacob  received the surprise of his life.

You know we have to always remind ourselves that we are not just fighting for equal rights for ourselves and our loved ones, we are also acting as role models for those who will carry on the fight going forward.

What was improbable yesterday, is possible today, and ubiquitous tomorrow.
