Palin runs to Canada to demand her share of money needed for cancer research.

Former HECFI head Gabe Macaluso, a member of the committee organizing the dinner at Carmen's Banquet Centre, said confirmation of her attendance just came in. More details will be announced today at a noon news conference at Carmen's.

"This is quite the coup," Macaluso said last night. "She's one of the hottest speakers on the Speakers Bureau. The demand is huge."

"Hottest speakers on the Speakers Bureau?" "The demand is huge?" Do these people not read this blog or the American newspapers? If they did they may realize that this so-called in demand speaker is now giving speeches at such high profile venues as Bowling Proprietors' Association of America. Oh yeah she is in demand all right! Let's face it, if the price was right Palin would show up for the opening of a sewage treatment plant.

The former Alaska governor recently joined the Washington Speakers Bureau, which represents former president George W. Bush.

Palin will speak at a fundraiser for the Juravinski Cancer Centre and St. Peter's Hospital. Organizers hope to sell 1,000 tickets at $200 a plate, but raise more via photos with her.

Reports say Palin makes $200,000 a speech. Macaluso couldn't say the exact amount, but said that's "around the ballpark."

What the hell kind of "fundraiser" is this? These poor people have to sell a thousand tickets JUST to cover the cost of Sarah Palin delivering her speech! How much cancer research do you think $200,000 would provide? Is having sister Sarah show up really more important then spending that money on saving lives? What kind of screwed up priorites do these Canadians have?

And speaking of priorities, how can ANY human being ask for money up front before helping to raise money to fight a disease as devastating as cancer? Didn't the man who plucked Palin out of the wilds of Wasilla have skin cancer? I wonder what he would think of his VP pick now if he knew she was skimming her $200,000 from the top of the money raised to fight this horrible disease?

You know Sarah, REAL human beings volunteer their services to help raise money to save lives. Only whores want to get paid for everything that they do.

  9. They are paying $200K to listen to a woman who is incoherent?

2ndly, this is a woman who should be using her position to be an advocate for disabled children. Other than a speech in Indiana and a walk in NY, what has she done. What has she done for her own CHILD? Oh, maltreated him, submitted him to sensory deprivation (constant lack of glasses and hearing aids), and (apparantley) hasn't seen that he's able to take advantage of the early intervention opportunities available to him.

So why would this outfit think she gives a flying f*** about cancer research?

OK, I know you post the same spam all of the time, and usually I just skim right past the nonsense, but I thought you might want to know that the bailouts happened under Bush, and Sarah Palin approved of them. The bailouts gave the money to the corporations.

Go everywhere? Hey, Einstein, don't you think that (for the reason of your own health and safety) you and your teabagger friends should at least use a porta john?

"Take back the house in 2010."
Are you talking about Sarah's house? Because if you are attempting to make reference to the House of Representatives, then "house" should be spelled with a capital "H."

    "Stop Bailouts."
What? Without the "Bailouts," that SP's bots fork over to her, and her various and sundry money sucking funds, Sarah would have to get a job. Now, you wouldn't want her to have to do that, would you?

Actually, I concede that there is really no way to break through that fog that swirls around in your brain. But, seriously, if you have children and/or grandchildren, have you given any thought to the following? By putting a certain Miss Wasilla in charge of that red button, you would probably be guaranteeing that your own descendants will fall under the heading of mutant. Nuclear fallout is nasty, nasty stuff, you know.

  27. As a Canadian, kI hang my head in shame that they invited that mess to our country. Yuck!! On the other hand, there is a little twist, isn't there always with Ms Palin. The hospital does abortions and the Center for Studies on Aging offers 'advanced directives' or as Sarah likes to call them - death panels. Wonder if she knows this. Because if she did would she still speak to a group that did things that are totally against her principles? All together now, "Yes, if they pay her enough"

Nooooooooooo! I've been a follower of this site (and PD) since Palin was picked as McCain's running mate. I'm Canadian but I have never hated someone in my life as much as I despise Sarah Palin. She embodies every single thing that is wrong with American politics and North American society in general. She is a despicable human being and those that continue to promote and push the "empty vessel" are even more despicable. It all hit home today when I found out that she's going to be in my backyard giving a speech to A HOSPITAL!!!!! A full-on, socialized, Canadian hospital that's run by the government and provides mediacl services to Canadians for free. Isn't that exactly what she's against?

Anyways, I would really, really appreciate it if you could take the time to email the hospitals in question and let them know who they're giving their money to. If they were informed, I can't imagine they would ever consider a decision like this.

  41. So, they hope to sell 1,000 tickets at $200 each but raise more money selling photos with her.

Hmm. Has she signed off on that?

Because even if they sell those thousand tickets, that only covers her speaking costs.

Now let's say they sell another thousand photos at $20 a pop. That's only $20,000. And have they gotten commitments in writing that Palin will actually have her picture taken? And is Palin going to charge a percentage for each picture?

Because it's looking a lot like there isn't going to be much research going on with whatever little pittance is left. In fact, I don't see the little money they might clear being able to even buy more than a couple of cancer meds for any patient for more than a month or two.

The pro-life/pro-choice issue is not something that divides the country, at least not as far as I've seen. Universal train of thought here in Canada, even in conservative Alberta, is Palin=loser.

As has been noted above, it sure would be nice to have that speaking fee saving lives. It's on record now that she's getting a fee, but let's see how long it takes her to make a donation (that seems significant, but really is less than her fee). Making millions on her book tour, yet taking money from non-profits? There is something seriously wrong with that.

No, 5:08. You are running away from a discussion about the truth. You and the rest of Mr. Gryphen's followers can't just say "Oh we're above all that" and pretend you are right without actually having the discussion. That's just head-in-the-sand attitude.

So he may have worked out some sort of scam with La Palin, indeed.

Serious conservative columnists and pundits remarked that if Sarah wanted to consider running for President in 2012, she should be spending the time after quitting to study issues and establish some credibility.

It's nice to see that once again, Sarah cannot take good advice from political professionals. She just wants to make money. And, the sooner that her followers figure this out, the more money they will save in the long run, because that is all that she cares about, money and herself.

Because Sarah will be speaking at a hospital that performs abortions, she is going to piss off some of her followers. I'm sure that she is going to piss off some Canadians who thought that she could just see their border from her house. And, you would think that by now Alaskans would have gotten the message too....Sarah has done nothing to progress Alaska by quitting. Sarah has been progressing her own bank accounts and real estate holdings, as well as continuing to ask for donations for her PAC and Legal Defense Fund.

I took my 4yo granddaughter to Canada this summer from WA state and I needed two documents: a signed, notarized letter with signatures of both parents granting me permission to take her over the border and a CERTIFIED COPY OF HER BIRTH CERTIFICATE. This was required by both Canadian and American immigration officers. A passport is not required to return to the US until 16 years of age. Thus, the Palins would need to have Trig's birth certificate, certified, to take him to Canada with them.

The Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative is a result of the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 (IRTPA), requiring all travelers to present a passport or other document that denotes identity and citizenship when entering the United States.

As of January 23, 2007, all persons traveling by AIR between the United States and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda are required to present a passport book or other valid travel document to enter or re-enter the United States.

The US border document check is pretty cursory. They glance at your paperwork and hand it right back to you while you are still sitting in your vehicle. No one makes copies or takes notes on the contents of the documents.

I don't think Trig or the Palin's will give away any info if they cross the border.

It doesn't matter what Google says or doesn't say, I make the drive so there really isn't anywhere to go with it. It is what it is.

You'd have to be VERY naive to think that those Palin supporters in the states who will sit all night in the cold to get a book signed by her and see her for 5 seconds are going to miss a chance to come see her. sheeezzz

That doesn't mean the entire audience will be "Yanks". Hardly. But it will be a large portion of the audience in my opinion and in my, your words, fake promo person's opinion.

I was thinking about this the other day. Soviet Union was not communism, it was a totalitarian state with a dictator. And yet, what was best about that society was the socialistic aspects. And our system, one of extreme capitalism is also oppressive at times, and yet what is best about it is precisely those aspects which are socialized - good roads, reliable police department, fire department, mail service, medicare, public schools.

So let us all start to realize that the word 'socialism' is not a negative label but a positive one.

To be enterprising is to keep your eyes open and your mind active. It's to be skilled enough, confident enough, creative enough and disciplined enough to seize opportunities that present themselves... regardless of the economy.
