ALL indications point to a Murkowski write-in campaign. Update.

From KTUU:

A longtime friend and supporter of Lisa Murkowski, Bonnie Jack, says she spoke with family members of the senator who say Murkowski will announce her write-in campaign Friday night. Jack says the theme of the event will be "write in her name and fill in the oval."

Murkowski’s campaign manager John Bitney said he could not confirm or deny anything, but encouraged the senator's supporters to show up at tonight's event, which starts at 5:00 at the Dena'ina Center.

Okay folks let's not play "will she, or won't she" games anymore.  EVERYBODY knows that Lisa is DEFINITELY going to make this a three way race for the Senate seat.

Earlier in the day Alaska blog "What do I know" got their hands on some pictures of a couple of guys grabbing up old abandoned Lisa Murkowski signs out of the campaign sign graveyard and loading them onto a truck.  Why else would anybody want JUST Murkowski signs unless they were planning to recycle them for her new independent run for her old seat?

There have also been reports that a Murkowski family member has announced on her Facebook page that Lisa is absolutely running as a write-in candidate.

Okay so what does this mean for the election?

Will Murkowski's candidacy help Democrat Scott McAdams by taking GOP votes away from Miller? Or will it hurt McAdams by attracting the Republicans so pissed off at the usurper Miller that they were willing to jump off of the GOP ship and vote for McAdams?  Or, against all odds, will Murkowski pull the second upset of the campaign season and beat BOTH Miller and McAdams to reclaim her Senate seat?

Beats the hell right out of me.

All that I know for sure is that Alaskan Democrats and Independents need to turn out in droves in November for teh Democratic candidate.

And here is why.

If Murkowski wins she will no longer be considered a Republican and will be stripped of all of her seniority and committee positions, and essentially will return as a freshman in the smallest of all minorities, that of an independent. Not much she can do for Alaska in that situation is there?

And if Miller wins? Well Miller is essentially Sarah Palin's teacup poodle, and will do whatever his mistress demands of him. Which from what I can determine is to screw up Alaska's ability to interact with the Federal government as much as humanly possible until the AIP idea of seceding from the union becomes the most attractive option for the Alaska people.  And oh yeah, you can bet the farm that Miller is a mole sent from the AIP .

The best hope for Alaskans is to rally behind McAdams as our last hope for sane representation that will hit the ground running as part of the Democratic majority. At least McAdams understands, and respects, the very important relationship that Alaska has with the Federal government, and NOT accuse them of breaking promises based on his ignorance concerning the Alaska Constitution.

Update: As predicted Murkowski is in!

Joe MiIller was supposed to make a statement right after the Murkowski announcement, but he has not made himself available to the media as of yet.  I imagine he is still busy banging his head against the wall.

I don't expect you to print this comment, I just want to vent.

This is why I am so pissed at any AK Democrats who voted for Miller in the Republican primary. Think that ticked off Murkowski supporters are going to vote Dem after that? Think again. Even if she weren't going to continue her campaign, my bet is that if they couldn't find the stomach to vote for Joe, they would have stayed home or just done their own write-in.

So now the rest of us in the country are faced with the prospect of a Joe Miller in the Senate.

Do I like Lisa? No. Would I rather have her in the Senate than Miller? Yes.

Do I think AK Democrats fucked up while trying to be too damn clever for their own good. Yes, I do.

I sure hope she does not split the vote in such a way that Miller wins.

  3. My guess is that Lisa's entry guarantees Joe is third. The battle will be between Scott and Lisa. I can't vote in Alaska, but I'm pulling for Scott.

    It's official.

Wonder what Sarah thinks about competition now, also, too.

Looks like God showed Lisa an open door and she plowed right on through it.

It only takes 34% to win a three-way race. The numbers just aren't in Miller's favor now

  8. So, this is what I think...
If I were a republican then I'd be hollering at the republican senators that have been threatening/talking/thinking about taking away Murkowski's ranking membership on the Energy committee (before the election) - BECAUSE if the republicans piss Murkowski off, and then she wins an Independent, then she might just tell them to kiss her butt and then start voting more with the democrats - which I think would be a 'good' thing ;)
I am still hoping that Murkowski and Miller will split the republican vote equally and the democrats come out full force for McAdams!

Come on Alaska VOTE FOR McADAMS for U.S. Senate!

  9. Wondering how mad Palin got when
    Murkowski said:
"I am one Republican woman who won't QUIT in Alaska"

    ROTFLMAO!

I have some friends who have always voted Democrat and are voting for Murkowski. Their reasoning is that McAdams is too inexperienced. These are strong democrats and I just don't understand it.

  11. First, Miller is crying the wussy boy. He is sending out his "Aide" for Visine. Expect to see him misty eyed when he does speak.

Second, McAdma's no longer has a shot. His best bet is too throw himself behind Murkowski to give her the votes to defeat Miller by a landslide this time. Begich has screwed Dem's for another senate seat.

This race now is about bitch slapping Palin through Miller.

  14. igettit2: you mirror my sentiments exactly. Thank you for putting it so succinctly. The political system in the country is too tenuous right now for progressives in AK to have been playing this bait and switch in the primary.

  16. Palin's advice to Lisa: "Listen to the people, respect their will".
This coming from a woman who; with the old man, LOST their asses to Obama/Biden in 2008?
$he has done nothing but throw a tantrum since.
Yeah $arah, respect the will of the people. You LOST. Get over it.

  17. Ok there is a chance enough can spell Murcowski. Then how many can write legible? Now we have a race that needs more than popcorn to watch. I think this is a serious Guacamole and chips kinda intensity.
I cant wait to hear what lies the Miller campaign can come up with against these two.
I know where my vote goes and i did talk to Scott McAdams. He is ready and fit for the job. So i dont know folks, Where the moderates will go in this election. From what i see McAdams is not extreme. So lets see where this goes. I am sad that Lisa to the chance and this all could give a chance to Miller. She should have backed McAdams.

  19. I was proud of our former governor when she went against Frank because Frank was a jerk to his constituents. Did anyone here ever see him and try to speak to him? He wasn't shy or afraid, he was just a jerk who rolled his eyes at people. He didn't want to talk to anyone. How hard is it to be polite? The ex governor, who I am glad left her office because she kept taunting us with inappropriate acts that demanded she be called on, was at that time a public ray of sunshine and I was glad to know her.

Lisa doesn't do what is best and she has sold her soul to the Republican machine. She should be supporting small business with lower taxes and be against corporate welfare. Still, I like her because she is PROFESSIONAL. No stupid tweets from her, she is nothing but class.

Joe either don't know nuthin' about the Constitution and how things work or doesn't think anyone else knows anything. He, like the Mother Teacup, is in over his head. He is blindly serving the Koch bros. He is the ex guv.'s "downline" in the scheme.

Scott worries me because ~I feel~ that the Democrats want to centralize everything and that he will be part of this.

Watched Channel 2 tonight and they covered the Miller Press Conference, but afterwards spent the majority of the time talking about Murkowski and her 'write-in' bid...you could determine who they are behind! Noticed the head of the Republican party being at Miller's conference. Murkowski will be stripped of all her seniority in Congress if she wins via the 'write-in'. She doesn't have much support from that 'party of no' - which she appeared to be a huge part. This is going to be interesting to watch, there is no doubt!

  26. To the Editor--

When you stated that should Ms. Murkowski be re-elected as an "independent," she would lose all her seniority and committee assignments--that's not likely to happen.

Ms. Murkowski (once elected as an "independent") could just "switch" her registration back to GOP. For example, that's how Arlen "The Man Nobody Wanted" Specter became a "Democrat."

Or, even if Ms. Murkowski remained "Independent," she could still caucus with the GOP. See, for example, Joe Lieberman and the Democrats (Don't forget to look for Gail Collins new book, How Joe Lieberman Ruins Everything).

If I had to bet (and I don't bet), I'd say come November, Murkowski beats Miller (with Adams scoring the "Thanks for Playing" award in third).

Moreover, I see O'Donnell getting beaten like a rented mule, Angle losing to Reid, and even Rand going down in Kentucky.

The so-called Tea Party people can only do well on low, low turn out elections--where only the nutjobs and socialists (cough cough) show up.....

  27. Okay...That's it. Unless every voter in Alaska has had their IQ drop about 40 points, Miller will be dead in the water by mid-October. From a column by NY Times Gail Collins, following a joint appearance by McAdams and Miller:

McAdams said he wants to bring home the bacon. (“We are a young state. We have great needs.”) Miller said the pig is dead, the barn is on fire and a killer tornado is headed for the farmhouse. Social Security can’t be saved over the long run. Instead of fighting to protect Alaska’s huge federal aid, Miller wants to make Washington give up control of Alaskan lands and waters so private enterprise can develop the resources untrammeled. Otherwise, he said, Alaska will be in big trouble “when the government goes.”

Honestly, I find myself rooting for Lisa Murkowski. Yes, McAdams seems like a genuinely sharp and decent candidate, and in fact, I sense his abilities are underestimated.

But at the same time, the bullies in the Tea Party Express must be stopped. These are corrupt, sleazy lowlifes who will lie, cheat, steal and probably murder to get their way. And it's clear Lisa Murkowski is the ONLY Republican right now willing to meet them head on in the school yard. Rare to see that kind of courage in politics these days.

Can someone explain to me how Democrats could vote in a Republican primary and why they would? In my opinion you'd have to sell your own soul to do so and that, to me, is a Republican trait, not Democrat. Why are some of you trying to blame Dems for Miller's nomination? Republican moles maybe? Why would you desert your own principles to split the Rep vote? Dems are much better at rational thinking than are most Reps and I can't see them being as hypocritical. And you who are saying "forget Scott McAdams, no experience, not a chance, blah, blah, blah" appear to be trying to undermine his campaign. Anyone else see it this way?

    6:36,

I agree, at first I was a bit peeved that Dems would do that, but I suspect the actual numbers of Dems crossing over to vote in the Repub primary are quite low.

The rational Repubs will just have to accept the fact that too few of them bothered to vote. In their defense, who would have thought Miller could win? That said, they should have realized the parental notification referendum would have brought out the Miller voters like flies to honey.
