From MSNBC:
Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords has recovered enough from a bullet to the brain to ask for toast with breakfast.
Few details are available, but Pia Carusone, Giffords' chief of staff, confirmed that the congresswoman made the verbal request on Monday when hospital workers at TIRR Memorial Hermann brought her a meal.
"Yes, that's accurate," Carusone said in an e-mail.
She is now speaking "more and more" since she uttered her first words several days ago, spokesman C.J. Karamargin told the Associated Press on Wednesday. He didn't know what her first words were.
Though small, the request for toast first reported by Politico marks a milestone for the congresswoman, who was shot in the head in a Jan. 8 shooting spree in Tucson that killed six and injured 13.
Now that is an amazing woman! I think there are some pretenders out there who could learn a little something about what it means to be tough and how to overcome obstacles from Gabby Giffords.
Don'tcha think?
Gabby Giffords is an amazing woman and I hope like hell she is well enough to stay in politics.
ReplyDeleteWE NEED HER!
(plus, she needs to show a certain somebody what a true public servant looks like!)
Fantastic news, Gryph!
Look out Sarah. Do you think Gabrielle Giffords might have an opinion on your crosshairs?
ReplyDeleteGuess what our Alaska Legislature spend its time on down in Juneau, this month?
ReplyDeleteHonoring Ronald Reagan.
An actual House bill.
That's right. The State of Alaska will now have some kind of official Ronald Reagan day. Or something.
In spite of constituent requests that time not be spent on this, they did anyway. 'Cause they know best what we Alaskans need.
BILL: HJR 13 SHORT TITLE: HONORING RONALD REAGAN
CURRENT STATUS: TRANSM TO GOVERNOR STATUS DATE: 02/08/11
SPONSOR(s): REPRESENTATIVE(s) STOLTZE, Pruitt, Thomas, Costello, Chenault, Fairclough, Hawker, Johansen, Johnson, Keller, Millett, Neuman, Olson, Seaton, P.Wilson, Gatto, Lynn, Saddler, Munoz, Thompson, Herron
SENATOR(s) Dyson, Meyer, McGuire, Menard, Stedman, Olson, Coghill, Wagoner, Giessel, Stevens
TITLE: Honoring President Reagan on the 100th anniversary of his birth.
Is there any possibility at all that we could vote some of these career people out, for once and for all?
Lesil McGuire didn't IMAGINE that she would keep her seat. She already had jobs lined up. What happened? She was the incumbent, with no opposition.
Can we do something different, Alaska?
With apologies to Gabby! :)
ReplyDeleteSomeon asked Gabby what she thought of Sarah Palin's political career.
Gabby answered: "Toast."
wonderful news!
ReplyDeleteOT - Sarah's pac is funding raising for a special birthday gift - wonder what the Quitter Queen is going to buy for herself with the donations she is stealing from her followers
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/02/09/sarah-palin-birthday-sara_n_820894.html
Did she ask for toast or did she say "Palin is toast"?
ReplyDeleteGo Gabby!!!
ReplyDeleteIt will be very interesting to see, once she is well and able to give interviews, exactly what she says about the whole incident. I suspect that Sarah's pretty damn nervous about that. Just a few well chosen words from Gabby could sink Sarah faster than any iceberg, (so far). But hopefully the iceberg will hit long before then.
ReplyDeleteGryphen, any news on the latest iceberg weather predictions? Seems like things have calmed down, or am I just being impatient?
Now, that IS good news!
ReplyDeleteWow, this is SUCH good news. I was deeply concerned that she might have lost her ability to speak with the brain injury she suffered.
ReplyDeleteI'm so grateful for the medical miracles that Gabby has had available to assist her in her healing and I feel certain that she will come out VERY strongly for healthcare for everyone.
and serious gun control (and violent rhetoric).
I mean, really, who the hell could argue with her about guns.
She owns one, she got shot with one.
Add to that: she's a public servant, she's a lawmaker, she's married to an astronaut who is about to make history, she's good friends with the president of the United States, she's won the hearts of DC and of the nation for her strength and courage and pure survival in the face of 'just doin' her job.
Now, really, I ask you, who's more of a real expert on the subject?
Wow - this is an amazing recovery!
ReplyDeleteMay she continue her progress until she is back doing what she loves best, representing the people of her community.
O/T on Scarah
ReplyDeleteThe PAC is pandering to the mentally challenged for funds for a 'special birthday surpise'.
AKA the PAC is running out of $$$$$ and they will spew anything to get funds. Timmy Crawfords getting worried where his next check is gonna come from. If he thinks Palin will step up and put her personal $$$$ in - he truly doesn't know Scarah!!!!! LOL
Remember - The PAC only raised $279,000 in 5 weeks at the end of 2010. That makes me laugh as it shows KOCH et al are not bankrolling the PAC!!! or it would have balances of millions.
Heee, Heeee, Heeee!!!!
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/02/09/sarah-palin-birthday-sara_n_820894.html
I wonder if she will continue to be as conservative as she was - not that she was any where near as conservative as most Blue Dogs.
ReplyDeleteI am rooting for her full recover and return to political service, but I also wonder how awkward or difficult it will be for people to criticize her for positions with which they disagree. It will be interesting to see, if she decides to return to politics how this experience affects her views and her reception by the public at large.
May she continue her wondrous recovery and may she and her family continue to heal from the physical and emotional trauma they've been through.
Her story is an inspiration to us all. (and makes Sarah looks like the piece of selfish, hateful pooh she is).
It's a beautiful day.
ReplyDeleteMost importantly - Hearing that Gabby Giffords spoke.
Secondly - that LiLo has been charged!!!! Time for her to spend some time in 'General Population'.
While I am very glad that Gabby Giffords is making such remarkable progress there are many in this country that cannot and will not receive the care she is getting (and of no fault of their own).
ReplyDeleteSarah and her croonies need to BACK OFF on health care reform. We needed it YESTERDAY!
Giffords’ rehab fully covered by insurance, but not so for other victims of brain injury
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/41315890/ns/us_news/
Once Giffords has recovered, I would also be interested in hearing what she and her family feel led to the shooting.
ReplyDeleteI'm just elated that Gabby is regaining her ability to speak as that was the portion of her brain that was damaged when she was shot. Another sign that she is making a miracle recovery. I do not care what she thinks about the cross hairs graphic by Palin, and I doubt she has thought about it either. I believe that Gabby is such a superior human being to Sarah that she does not think about Sarah for one second. Gabby is probably overwhelmed with the love and good wishes of the millions who are pulling for her while she works hard to recover.
ReplyDeleteI was at the Neo-Con hardware store the other day and I saw this informative flyer.
ReplyDeletehttp://goo.gl/YLYKZ
Gabby Gifford IS a Grizzley.
ReplyDeletePalin is a pansy assed whiner.
It's quite possible that Gabby will have no memory of the shooting.
ReplyDeleteGabby is my congresswoman in Tucson. She is a fantastic lady and we are all pulling for her. Can't wait for her first press conference when she's back.
ReplyDeleteThanks Gryphen for this encouraging and inspirational piece on Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.
ReplyDeleteI wish her a full and speedy recovery.
o/t When will you be able to reveal the story of how little Tripp, Bristol & Levi's son, got his name?
Anon 11:21 posted about the AK Legislature Bill honoring Reagan.
ReplyDeleteI noted when I read the comment that the Bill number is 13.
Makes you wonder now how long they will spend/waste on it to change the number when they actually pay attention and read it and realize it's #13
As much as I'd love it if Gabby went off on $arah Paylin, she probably has too much class to do so. But as Rodney Dangerfield said; "Why don't you call me when you have no class."
ReplyDeleteIt is very fortunate that more of her brain tissue was not destroyed, and fortunate that her personality seems to be little impacted.
ReplyDeleteHaving lots of family and friends around who will instinctively nudge her toward being what they remember her as being is actually very helpful in recovering from traumatic brain injury.
Hopefully she will be able to regain full function of her intellect and her desire.
O/T: What happened to Floyd Orr's blog, Palin Babygate?
ReplyDeleteOT, but an OMG moment worth noting: The GOP has still NOT removed "forcible rape" from that bill! They've had a week and still have not done it!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/02/09/abortion-forcible-rape-language-hr-3_n_820846.html
Republican failure to remove that phrase proves they are untrustworthy. They give their word, and still nothing is changed.
Did they just expect us to take their word and forget to double check?
We might as well refer to her as Future Arizona Senator and Leading Candidate to Be First Female Vice President or President Gabrielle Giffords.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't it be sweet if SP's dream job went to the woman who she targeted and who almost died because of her stupidity? That would be awe- (wait for it) SOME!
To think - That unemployed Scarahbilly, having a house in AZ and moving there - Gabby is one of Arizona's representatives.
ReplyDeleteAnd in fact, being Bristurd has moved there - Gabby does represent her in the state of AZ.
That must burn Scarahbilly's ass!!
Rep. Chris Scott, Rethug NY has resigned for sending shirtless photos to a woman he 'connected' with on Craigslist. He's 'happily' married - yearightsure. That's what they all say.
ReplyDeleteI suspect that him resigning so quickly as the resignation was only a matter of 'hours' after the story was reported, there are more skeletons gonna fall out of his closet.
He has been a US House Rep for 2 years. Didn't take him long!!

Now my vision is - that Palladino resurfaces. You know, the one that came out for his speech with a baseball bat after he lost to Cuomo for Governor!!
Wonderful news. Sometimes the good "guys" really do come out ahead.
ReplyDeleteMy husband suffered a left side stroke. Couldn't speak or use his right arm. His first words were "what the"? Used to tease him about when I would hear the rest of the phrase.
ReplyDeleteThe fact she can speak at all and so soon is HUGE. She may get it all back!
Hubby did, in less than 4 months.
This Tina Fey video channeling Sarah is really funny too:
ReplyDeletehttp://starcasm.net/archives/42078
Yay for Gabby! I hear she's walking around her room very well, is happy, and still 'giving' to those around her.
ReplyDeleteShe is so above Sarah Palin!
And you can bet your booties Sarah Palin is never gonna get beyond her association with this terrible tragedy, as it should be. She's toast.
I was told that Congresswoman Giffords speech is improving and even in recovery Gabby is making more sense that Sarah Palin ever did.
