I was simply pointing out the irony of an often selective interpretation of free speech rights.”
Look I tried to explain the difference between the right to practice free speech and the right not to have the government dictate how, and to whom, you worship to Snowdrift Snooki yesterday. As did many others.
For clarification just because these two rights are both outlined in the First Amendment does not mean that they are interchangeable. But we could try and explain that to the "Disasta from Alaska" til we were blue in the face, and she would never get it.
You know Sarah when you see the people around you visibly start to cringe every time you are about to open your mouth, they are trying to tell you something. (Without risking the chance of a catching a can of peaches to the forehead of course.) And that something is, and we know you don't like to hear this, "It is time to sit down and shut up, because every single time you talk, it just makes the world that much dumber."
A hard lesson I know. But don't you think it is time for you to learn it?
Sorry Gryphen, but McCain opened the Pandora's Box that is Sarah Palin, and that klid is going to be hard to close. When I read about her actions BEFORE McCain led her to believe she was important to the entire nation, I just shale my head. HOW did she get elected Mayor? And after her shenanigans in Wasilla, HOW did she manage to get herself elected Governor? But then, I look south and see that somehow an ignorant, self-righteous man named George became President not once, but twice, and I guess the answer lies in a lack of vigilance. We have enough problems to face when we put a truly intelligent person (Clinton, Obama) in the White House. When we allow narcissists a slot in the big time, we are asking for just what we get. The moral of the story is: be very careful whose campaign promises you buy, and when the package is more important than the message, watch out.

ReplyDeleteGod (there, I invoked him!), she STILL doesn't get it, does she? "These wackos" are individual citizens speaking for themselves on the public street - just like a crazed drunk raving on the corner can say whatever comes to his mind, so can the Westboro knuckleheads.
It's NOT the same as an official representing a school or institution speaking to a public audience, being given limitations on his speech by the institution - even if what she says were true, which it's not. Plenty of graduation speeches include "God Bless You" and plenty of football games still begin with prayers.
Employees speaking for their employers should have every expectation that their employer has the right to limit their words. As for hired speakers, I challenge her to find even one incident where a hired outside speaker was told "You can't say God Bless You."
How about people who invoke God's name in their hate speech who aren't Westboro Baptist people, Sarah, how about you and your Teabagger friends?

If it's truly from 2008, I see it as further proof that there is no way she had Trig. Her hormones (or lack of) wouldn't support a pregnancy, IMO.

Interesting that Sarah talks about God in her speeches and interviews all the time yet no one is invoking the 1st Amendment against her and shoving a sock in her mouth every time she says God.

Where is the documented evidence of the obsessive narcissism in Clinton or Obama? Did either of them run up a $250K tab on the DNC's dime for clothing for themselves and everybody in their family? Please, elucidate us with such examples by these two presidents. Whether you like Clinton and Obama or not, I challenge you to find any veteran GOP politician who has worked with either Clinton or Obama who did not characterize them as brilliant men. It has been routinely said of both men that they were/are nearly ALWAYS the smartest person in the room during virtually any discussions in the White House.

Someone astutely pointed out that this was a free speech issue brought to the court, not a freedom of religion issue. So fail, again, Sarah.

The general public thinks they're crazy, so she repeats it in order to sound reasonable. But she actually supports this demographic, doesn't she? Remember the guy in the red t-shirt which said something like "proud homophobic, racist, gun-toting republican" or something like that? Her supporters openly deride gays and generally vote to eliminate healthcare coverage for gays and hate crime laws, etc. Her base is bible-thumping, homophobic and racist, for the most part. So why all the surprise with Westboro? Why does she turn her nose up at these people and not the rest?
And frankly, anyone like her who actively supports discrimination against a gay minority (or any minority, really), is by default admitting they believe that minority is inferior. Because if they were not inferior, they would enjoy 100 percent of the benefits that you enjoy, no? And if you go with that assumption, that they are inferior, then the inferior is deserving of derision, are they not? So the Westboro Church is just being honest, they're doing doing opening and full-throated what others are doing less noticeably.
