Courtesy of the LA Times:
Five months after falling victim to an assassin's bullet, Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was discharged from the Houston hospital where she has been rehabilitating.
Calling her release a "major milestone," the hospital, TIRR Memorial Hermann, said Giffords would continue to receive outpatient care at a home outside of Houston owned by her husband, Mark E. Kelly.
In a statement, her doctors said that the Arizona Democrat had improved to the point where she no longer needed to be a patient.
“Congresswoman Giffords has shown clear, continuous improvement from the moment she arrived at TIRR five months ago,” said Gerard Francisco, the hospital’s chief medical officer. “We are very excited that she has reached the next phase of her rehabilitation and can begin outpatient treatment. We have no doubt that she will continue to make significant strides in her recovery.”
Kelly, an astronaut who recently completed a mission aboard the space shuttle Endeavour, praised the care that Giffords received.
“Gabby gives her all to everything she does and that’s exactly what she’s been doing at TIRR since Jan. 26,” he said. “The remarkable progress she has made since then is a testament to both her single-minded determination to get better and the team of medical professionals overseeing her care.”
Am I the only one who gets misty eyed every time I read anything about this amazing woman's courage and amazing recovery? I swear I have to dab my eyes after every other paragraph.
The ONLY reason I would ever consider going to Arizona would be to help with Giffords campaign for reelection. And believe me, she would win to.
Three cheers for Gabby!
ReplyDeleteHip! Hip! Horray!

A speedy recovery and return to work.
ReplyDeleteToo bad that CROSS HAIRS DON'T RETREAT CLOWN is now living in your state.
You forgot that directly linked to Sarah Palin's imagery of crosshairs on gabby giffords district Nineteen people were shot, six of them fatally, with one other person injured at the scene.
ReplyDeleteThat is so heart-warming to know she is going home!
ReplyDeleteGood luck for the rest of your journey, Mrs. Gifford!
Ms. Giffords survived people emailing and phoning in death threats, breaking the windows of her office, and finally a madman shooting her at point blank range. I hope the tea party is proud. This is what they wanted. Mrs. Giffords will never be the same. I certainly hope Sarah Palin will continue to defend herself since she was the one who incited the violence against Gabby Giffords. Sarah Palin and the Tucson massacre are synonymous. No one believes that the "Tea Party Queen" had nothing to do with this heinous act.
ReplyDeleteo/t sarahs on her way to AK with Tripp in tow. Bristol and Todd made it there by car in 2.5 days. dang Todd really doesnt need sleep
ReplyDeleteSo you wouldn't visit the grand canyon? Lol We know Alaska is soooo perfect, why would you leave? Such a great governor and oh that minister who hates gays along with your Anchorage mayor. Then there's that high rate of incest and STDs. And all the melting ice and beautiful ANWR. But wait!! Your representatives don't believe in global warming and neither do most of your residents! And oh your Democratic senator wants to drill in ANWR! Isn't that progressive of him! Do you have a liberal radio station at least?
ReplyDeleteGryph,
ReplyDeleteHere's a link to a NY Times article published in January, a week after the chaos of the shootings. William Yardley, co-author of the article, is the NYT's "western correspondent."
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/01/15/us/15profile.html?src=me&ref=homepage
I really like it because it fully captures what an accomplished, focused, hard-working ball of energy she is. The piece also never mentions the name "Loughner." Her life would make such an amazing movie; I hope someone does make a movie of her life, but not dwelling on the horrible shooting. Start with her grandparents and go on from there. She's an inspiration and the film would appeal to the whole family.
You'll probably be sadder and madder after reading it though, knowing what that monster Loughner did to her and those other innoncents slaughtered just a week before this article was published.
Congratulations to Ms Giffords. My thoughts are with her and the many other families whose loved ones suffered death or injury.
ReplyDeleteAnon 4:29-- how do you know this? And where is Trig? I can't believe a 3 year old has been away from his loving mom for at least weeks, if not months.
ReplyDeleteFor she's a jolly good fellow,
ReplyDeletefor she's a jolly good fellow,
for she's a jolly good fellow.
And so say all of us.
I wonder if Sarah Palin ever sent Gabby a get well card or "I'm sorry I put cross hairs on your name card"?
ReplyDeleteIt would be the Christian thing to do.
I'm soooo happy for Gabby! Great News!
ReplyDeleteAnon 4:29 "o/t sarahs on her way to AK with Tripp in tow. Bristol and Todd made it there by car in 2.5 days. dang Todd really doesnt need sleep"
And? Who cares? This thread is about a true inspirational and strong woman Gabby! Unlike your weak coward cult leader Sarah Palin.
Bless Gabby! She's a beautiful person.
ReplyDeleteThere are no words to adequately convey what a beautiful, strong woman Gabby always was, and always will be. I can't belive she's home after five months!
ReplyDeleteStay Strong, Focused, and always know you're an inspiration to so very many people!
Go Team Gabby!
O/T Just roaming the net & saw something from The Globe (cover page) saying Palin falls for a famous married man which could ruin her chances for the White House. I know, I know the guys got to be out of his mind. Inquiring minds want to know. Wonder if there is any truth to it & that's why the vacation tour came to such an abrupt end & Toad is MIA.
ReplyDeleteThe Palin comments here are just rude, I mean the ones about Sara's whereabouts. Who the fuck cares where that proxy killer and her offspring or whatever are doing? The story about driving from AZ to Alaska in 2.5 days is bullshit.
ReplyDeleteMinneapolis to Rapid City is a twelve hour drive. You have to stop to stretch, you have to eat, get gas, pee, etc. I have done that trip dozens of times and its twelve hours.
The distance to Rapid City for me is 600 miles. Phoenix to Anchorage is 3600 miles. That means the drive for Toad and Brisket would be approximately 50-60 hours. Meaning two and a half days
The poster claiming that Toad and Brisket made the trip in 2 1/2 days probably googled it and saw it reports it's 2 1/2 days "Driving Time", not actual time since you do have to stop and even sleep. Unless of course Toad and Brisket did Red Bull, Coke, Meth, Speed cocktails and drove non-stop with the back of the pickup loaded with food and uppers and they both peed into cups or had catheters.
So we get some bot coming here crowing about Brisket and Dad getting some face time in the pickup and two and half days later, there they are back in Wasilla, all happy as clams. If they drove like any normal person they'd maybe be in Calgary in two and half days, then they still have to traverse Canada and much of lower Alaska.
I call BULLSHIT to the bot trying to sell that story.
THREE THOUSAND SIX HUNDRED MILES? A THOUSAND MILES A DAY? Ten hours of driving a day (try it some time) at One Hundred Miles and hour. Fifteen hours of driving at average speed of 65 miles per hour without stops. Twenty hours at fifty miles an hour - that might work but where did they sleep? Snuggle up with daddy in a truck stop for a couple of hours. Does anyone believe the entitled Palin's wouldn't demand a five stay motel and at least eight hours of rest?
They and their bots are pathetic
Peace to Gabby and her family.
ReplyDeleteHubby is back from space, Gabby is out of the hospital. The really serious healing can now begin. They are a super-team. Reminds me of Patricia Neal and Roald Dahl.
ReplyDeleteThis is fantastic news. Not tearing up~just sitting here with a humongous grin on my face.
ReplyDeleteScorpie
Yes, truly good for her.
ReplyDeleteNow let's get that same enthusiasm going for the people that the Great US of A is bombing to pieces and don't have any place to go because their hospitals have been bombed to pieces as well.
We see the 'heroic' stories of a few kids who are lucky enough to get brought back here and receive care.
We don't hear so much about the kids and adults who don't get that care...
Remember, Gabby is getting the BEST care in the world. Care that even most Americans don't get.
I'm just so so so incredibly ANGRY these days.
The difference between Sarah and Gabby is that when Gabby smiles, her inner beauty beams from her eyes and face. When Sarah smiles, her dead eyes are a reflection of her cold, dead soul.
ReplyDeleteGood for Gabby, the over-achiever. She is a beautiful, joyful person inside and out. What a lovely lady!
OT. Rachel Maddow just highlighted "Go the F**K to Sleep!" as the next cool thing pn her shpw and played excerpts. Hah!
ReplyDeleteFYI
ReplyDeleteKeith Olbermann will be on The Colbert Report tonight.
Keith will be on Jimmy Fallon show on Thursday
NY Times does Palin piece:
ReplyDeletePalin’s disdain goes beyond the bitterness of a public figure who has been burned by the press. Plenty of others have endured the pain of mainstream-media excoriation but have remained civil and responsive. What these politicians have in common, though, is enough confidence in the strength of their ideas to imagine that they can make a case through the press, if not actually to the press. Perhaps one key to Palin’s dislike of the news media is a streak of intellectual insecurity, or a trace of impostor syndrome. Her best defense against being found shallow is a strong offense.

ReplyDeleteGabby Giffords is everything $palin is not. Strong, courageous, honest, and SO much more.
ReplyDeleteMay Gabby recover fully and continue to lead this country toward what the Founding Fathers had in mind when they founded it.
:-) Great news.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts are with the ones who lost their lives, too.
Ohiovoter
I wonder if the Queen Grifter $arah $Paylin has any idea of how much credibility and good will she could have gained by doing two things:
ReplyDelete1. Holding a brief press conference, and saying she regretted the shootings and the imagery would have gained her tremendous respect.
2. Going to the memorial service that PResident Obama spoke of, with a LOW KEY profile, not dressed flashy with fake boobs, just a low key visit to show solidarity. Sit in the back somewhere, and just be there in support.
Funny thing is, that is exactly what "christian" people are supposed to do if they think something they did was wrong, or might have even been misunderstood Apologize? Didn't even have to do that. Could have simply said "I regret the imagery, and I am %100 behind Gabby and the victims of this terrible crime"
But $arah can't do something like that apparently, and she doesn't have ONE ADVISOR smart enough to suggest it. She's like Bush, surrounded by sycophants, boot lickers, and payroll putzes.
I hope Gabby will walk into the Congress to a standing ovation, and take the opportunity to appeal to the TeaTard idiots there to stop the madness
Way to go, Gabby!!!
ReplyDeleteThat is such good news!

re.Anon@6.29 sure those founding fathers were a noble bunch,'cept for the fact that the country was already "owned" by a sucessful group of inhabitants at the time and these "founding fathers cheated and outright stole the land out from under the native peoples. Other than that tho those guys were a.o.k. Just sayin.
ReplyDeleteShe is a remarkable and awe inspiring woman. What a shining example of bravery and strength.
ReplyDeleteWonderful News ♥ ♥ ♥
ReplyDeleteSending very Best Wishes and Good Luck, to a Most Beautiful, Strong, Courageous (etc. and etc.) Lady with Lots of Love 'n Hugs. ♥
Anon 4:29 Wow 2 1/2 days is what I used to figure from Phoenix to Bellingham, WA driving alone. Of course, they had two drivers, but that is one long trip.
ReplyDeleteGabby is so beautiful! I am so happy that she is on her way to recovering!
ReplyDeleteJesse, I do the same thing when I read anything about Gabby (like right now). Oh, geez...........I have such empathy & respect for anyone who goes through a horrible ordeal and makes such a stunning comeback. It's tough and you must be a strong person. I will keep positive thoughts for her continued progress.
ReplyDeleteFantastic news.
ReplyDeleteYea, for Gabby and her family. What a wonderful woman!
ReplyDeleteI still blame Palin's crosshairs on Gabby's area along w/her name for these shootings that occurred in Tucson.
To think that Gabby actually spoke out against what Palin had published as to the crosshairs on a map of the U.S. prior to the shootings. Amazing!!
As I've said many times, Palin has a place in hell waiting for her.
