Sarah Palin and "The end of the political pole dance" or "What do you mean I can only afford one tassel?" Update!

"What are you saying I can't still bring in the money from horny Republican men?"
Courtesy of Politico:

Sarah Palin’s political action committee raised $388,000 in the first three months of the year, but it spent $418,000 and didn’t give a dime to any candidates — which is the purported purpose of the PAC.

Instead, Sarah PAC spent $255,000 on fundraising and a small team of political consultants that Palin has continued to support even as she receded from the political spotlight during the heat of the GOP presidential primary.

It may be a little cruel of me, but I LOVE that even as it becomes increasingly clear that Palin is finished in the world of politics, she cannot bring herself to discontinue with the charade, which means she has to keep "consultants" and "media people" on her payroll for the sake of appearance.

Which of course fits right in with the Palin family tradition of polishing a turd and trying to pass it off as a gold nugget.

And hey do you remember how Palin said that she really did not care about the movie "Game Change" and would NEVER even bother to watch it?

The PAC paid a little more than $19,000 to a Franklin, Tenn.-based company called Passcode Creative that has produced hagiographic Palin videos. The payments appear to coincide with the production and release of a video rebutting HBO’s “Game Change,” which Palin has alleged is based on a “false narrative.”

The two-and-a-half-minute video, which was made to look like a movie trailer, was titled “Game Change We Can Believe In.”

The video splices together a series of laudatory statements about Palin from McCain strategists Steve Schmidt and Nicolle Wallace, who are portrayed in “Game Change” as expressing doubts about Palin.

Yeah you know, not to be a stickler or anything, but usually when something "doesn't matter" to you, you don't spend $19,000 of your supporters money trying to refute it.  I'm just saying.

SarahPAC also paid $1,000 to send the Palin family to DisneyWorld
In the first three months of the year, the PAC also paid $27,500 each to Palin chief of staff Michael Glassner and issue consultant Peter Schweizer, $22,000 to speechwriter and Palin Internet defender Rebecca Mansour, $41,500 to Crawford, $21,000 to researcher Andrew Davis and $12,500 to conservative coalitions liaison Pam Pryor.

Well there are all of the usual suspects. (With the notable exception of Meg Stapletongue. Hmm.)

Nice to see that RAM is currently being paid so well to stay the hell off Twitter while slaving to make Sarah Palin sound like she knows anything about anything.

Considering how little SarahPAC seems to have done this quarter (Except for making that highly entertaining Palin mythology film of course) I started to wonder just what they had manged to spend $418,000 on?

Apparently the answer was buying stamps and filing papers. No, really!

The PAC managed to spend in excess of $67,000 dollars on "postage." And an additional $35,000 plus dollars on "clerical" work (This includes "data entry.").  Now some of this seems fairly legitimate, such as $38.00 to the Postmaster General in Arlington, Virginia, but the majority of it seems a little suspicious.

Personally I think it must be clear to everyone with even one or two working brain cells that SarahPAC has really never been anything but a huge slush fund for the Palin family, and that there is some creative bookkeeping happening to keep Uncle Sam from taking notice, but thirty five THOUSAND dollars for "clerical work" in three months? I mean come on!

Which begs the question, just what is being paid for here?

Much of the postage goes through two companies, MDI Imaging and Mailing and Southwest Publishing and Mailing, which appear to be fairly legitimate.  However for the life of me I cannot imagine how one can spend $67,000 dollars for postage in three months. Especially when only bringing in $388,000 for the quarter.

Now as for the clerical, that is perhaps even more suspicious.

The "data entry" portion was done by a company called Sterling LLC for a total of $8000, which was always paid in increments of $2,000.

The rest was paid to three Alaskan women, Carol Ryan of Wasilla, and what I am assuming is the mother daughter team of Marilyn and Tiffany Lane. Altogether this trio was paid almost $27,000 dollars for the quarter. If that continues for the entire year these three will have earned over $100,000 for "clerical work."  That is quite a sum of money for stuffing envelopes, filing papers, and.....?

Something smells very fishy, and it is not just the hands of a certain Alaska "fish picker." (Insert your own joke here.)

So what do YOU think "clerical work" stand for?

(Here is the link to the SarahPAC quarterly report, if you want to do a little digging of your own.)

Update: Okay by popular demand allow me provide this link to an open letter from Conor Friedersdorf over at the Atlantic to Sarah Palin on behalf of her donors.

Rod sold power and access, something that Palin does not have. Rod wanted hundreds of thousands of dollars in political donations in return for adding a wing to a children's hospital. He held up other state funded projects until he received his big payoff. The biggest item that he had for sale was Barack Obama's senate seat, when Obama was elected president. ("I've got this thing and it's bleepin' golden"). While Sarah was governor she came into some building materials and free labor, may have sold a local office, judicial appointment or even an honor for a doctor. If people are stupid enough to give Sarah money, she can probably spend it any way she wants, claiming that it's a political expense. The difference between Rod and Sarah is that Rod demanded those political contributions in return for something.

If the promise of a VP spot or cabinet position for support is proven, that is illegal. So that talk of Gingrich or Romney giving her a position for support, would put them in the same situation as Blago.

If you will go back, you'll find equally strange "postage" expenses like the $65,000. That never made sense, and it still doesn't. Neither does the clerical. AS someone else pointed out - postage is what got Dan Rostenkowski jailed. If I remember right, scams have been reported in which someone bought postal money order (check made out to USPS) and then tried to claim it as mailing expenses. Not saying anyone is currently doing that, just that it was done in the past and the people who did were convicted for it.

Agree with Irish Girl...those women are Trig's round the clock nannies...24x7, 365 days a year. They get a flat monthly salary. These women have been listed on many past SarahPAC filings. They make way more than most executive level administrative assistants for CEO's, and much more than most legal secretaries for partners in law forms ( I know, because my brother is a partner in his firm in Manhattan, and he tells me they make anywhere from 70-90K , if they are really good).

If these women are caregivers for Trig and indeed work 24/7 in some combination or rotation, they are being paid a moderate amount for very hard work.

I think that some of the clerical work shows up here, as the paid troll comments. We can spot them easily. They state that we don't know the Palin family. The Palins are a close, loving, happy family. Bristol is a mature, responsible young woman holding down a full time important job, doing an awesome job of raising her child (all by herself) and that she and Gino are crazy about each other. The troll comments regularly attack comments such as "Trig never should have been born" when no one ever made such a comment. Gryphen may be able to tell how many trolls there are from the ip addresses, though it wouldn't be hard to keep changing a profile if one needed to. In the past, Sally Heath got thousands of dollars for postage and mailing (and maybe taking care of Trig?) Some of the money must be keeping people quiet. Does that fall under consulting or fund raising?

      Ding, ding, ding!
By 2004, while daughter Sarah was becoming a rising star in Alaska political circles, Chuck had retired from teaching and was employed as a government trapper and wildlife specialist. He even spent time trapping rats in New York after the 2001 World Trade Center attack. He also worked as a commercial fisherman, gold miner and big game outfitter.

His SHS Hall of Fame biography states that three athletes he coached from 1963 – Larry Jacobson, Brian Timblin and Adrian Lane – had also moved to Alaska, becoming his hunting and fishing buddies.

Lane is married to Marilyn Gray, daughter of former Sandpoint Mayor Floyd Gray. The Lanes, living in Alaska since 1984, have watched the Heath children grow up. Their children have babysat Sarah’s.

“Adrian and Chuck are best friends. … They do everything together from hunting, fishing, trapping – you name it!” Marilyn Lane says. “We go to the movies, play cards and travel.”

Marilyn and her sister Loralee Gray have also spent time at the governor’s mansion. In a recent Idaho Statesman article, Gray, now of Boise, described her “fly-on-the-wall” status last March. She created and installed a huge, birch wood map of Alaska in the governor’s office, while Palin conducted business.

The percentage for postage and clerical work and fund-raising is far beyond what most non-profits charge (especially in the era of e-mail!). It's like a pyramid scheme -- people giving money to raise more money from other people.
If I were an IRS agent, I'd look closely at who really got the money from some of these front organizations.

And, if I were Sarah Palin, I'd look closely at how much I needed to pay my "consultants" and "fundraisers" in the future. She's going to be driving on fumes pretty soon, and should keep close track of every penny she's scammed. A year from now, she'll be lucky to be able to pay one consultant and keep her parents on the payroll for "mailing," as she did before. Two years from now, she'll be wondering how in the heck she's going to pay for Trig's nannies, and Todd will have to go out working his tricks to pay for the Chef Boy-ar-di.

I can't believe how much money was spent on consultants and speechwriters. These consultant obviously don't do their work, because Sarah says the same things over and over and over. She never has any new ideas; she always uses the very same talking points. What is the consultant's role and does she take their advice?

Wonder if the consulting fees are not paid to real political consultants, but instead to few teenage girls with a LLC who google old speeches.

And Tim Crawford taking in $41,500 is a pretty high chunk of money too for a 3-month period. And $67,000 for postage? What were they sending, an elephant? Sounds like a moving company moving a whole household to another location. Maybe the Palins think moving personal items is mailing.

So her clerical team would likely only be dealing with incoming mail, not out going. And that amount of postage would cover nearly 150,000 pieces of mail at .45 cents. That would be 50,000 pieces each month. This doesn't pass the Smell Test.

Absolutely. And postage is less if you utilize pre-sorted direct mail. Which any mail house would do.

Don't forget that bulk mail postage costs even less per stamp, so the number of mail pieces going out each month would be even more.

No, these postage costs don't pass basic common sense, much less a smell test.

I think it is time to end the era of the super PAC entirely. For Sarah Palin it has been simply income she does not have to declare and pay taxes on. When she does something like take her family on a "vacation" paid for by SarahPAC, then she should have to declare the money spent as income and pay tax on it. Most ordinary families can barely afford to take vacations and, when they do, it's all on taxable income. Her million dollar income from Fox News should be enough to take the kids on a vacation now and then.

In the intro, Gryphen wrote "Palin is finished in the world of politics" It's great to know that isn't it Gryph?

There was a moment in the movie Game Change when Palin is taking a call from Nicole Wallace in the stairwell, and she literally screams out like a banshee, "YOU'VE RUINED ME IN ALASKA"

To me, that was the high point of the movie.

When Granny Grifter understood that her abysmally bad interviews, gaffes, stupidity, and ignorance had been exposed for the entire world, she was mortified and ragingly angry at the same time.

She was finished in the public eye, embarrassed nationally, and the blowback in Alaska all came crashing down on her feeble brain as she realized what a joke she'd become.

The word "clerical" can also refer to the clergy. Maybe Trig is being cared for in a Christian institution, or a place run by Sarah's church.

As for the word "postage," it refers to the cost of delivering either a letter or a package. I remember when Bristol was interviewed by Greta shortly after Tripp was supposed to have been born. Sarah burst into the interview, holding Tripp and saying, "Here's your little bundle of joy." Postage could refer to all of the costs associated with delivering that little bundle (and/or another little bundle). Associated costs could also include care, looking after the little package, and paying the delivery costs (hush money, payment to Bristol and anyone who might know about the delivery, the Palins love a cute play on words).

I do like the comment, above, that some of the money being paid out finds its way to Bristol and other members of the family. And, it's not a good sign of conservative commonsense fiscal policy to spend more than you take in.

    1. Just to clarify, the PAC quarterlies and the family individual tax returns are two separate things, and as far as I know, the IRS does not - cannot - investigate PAC expenditures.

However, anyone of business receiving that kind of money must declare it on their income tax returns, and it doesn't seem as if these amounts paid have had taxes taken out (like on a W-2), so I'm guessing Tim Crawford or someone had to prepare a whole lot of 1099s to send to all these people - and himself.

That being said, even if he/they failed to do so, it is the individual/business's responsibility to claim the income (but that would be shoddy, unprofessional work on the part of SarahPAC, for all the PAC workers to not get a 1099).

I don't care about RAM's personal taxes, but I do wonder more if the Palin's have been benefiting from PAC expenditures and not claiming that on their income tax. 'Cause if you get 'gifts' over a certain amount from any one donor, they are subject to tax liability.

I always said Sarah won't run for high office because then she would be pressured - not required, but highly pressured - to release her tax returns. If she did, we'd get to scrutinize them and question her about them, and if she refused, it would look really really bad, like she was trying to hide something.

I'm sure some of the "postage" costs might be due to shipping items TO the Palins.

You know, FedEx to Alaska must be kind of high when you're ordering from some of these ritzy clothing retailers. Or whatever they might ordering.

She found a way to have the GOP pay for her clothing, why not have a PAC do the same thing.

Also, let's say they bought some computers - wouldn't the shipping to Alaska be high?

Shipping things back would also be high. Let's say they DID order something, used it, and then returned it to get the credit. All they would have to pay is the shipping.

    Just a thought.

Well, I analyze financial statements & usually the line item is postage & freight. Courier costs fall under postage & freight--not saying it is right, but it does.

As does postage, shipments, etc. However, if shipment is actually part of the bill, it goes with the product being purchased, not seperatly.

If I was analyzing some huge postage costs, I would look at the bill and who shipped/received an item - not necessarily whether or not the business was legitimate. Lots of name of courier companies out there.
Also, some postage costs are rolled into Rent payments & have to broken out on the books.

Palin pays for prime real estate at GOP convention

TAMPA — You betcha Sarah Palin will be at the August Republican National Convention.

The political action committee for the former Alaska governor and 2008 vice presidential candidate plunked down $4,500 to reserve space at Channelside Bay Plaza for the big political event.

The expense was listed in required filings submitted Wednesday to the Federal Election Commission. It's unclear what, if any, official role Palin will have at the Aug. 27-30 convention at the Tampa Bay Times Forum.

But the space at Channelside — a short walk from the Forum — will allow her an independent platform away from the formal event and access to some of the 15,000 journalists expected to cover the convention.

If interested, join and comment, but stay topical (or even tropical!). AK and FL are as different as can be in most ways, but the mid- and northern parts of the state are closer to a Southern mentality 'cause, well, they're closer to "the South". If you just 'bash' Palin, they'll get all defensive. But if you simply point out things like her recent non-fiscally conservative spending (this Tampa story is the perfect place to do it), that could open many people's eyes.

Oh, I recommend not using Gryph's article as a link (at least not more than once, sum total). Write your own short summary, and link to the source documents. That's if Piper makes it to high school before dropping out or getting expelled like Willow and have to go to hair school.

Connor Friedersdordf at the Atlantic has an open letter to Sarah Palin: Why do you mistreat your donors?

I just read this letter. I wonder how upset he will be when he finds out she has been using PAC funds for Trig's 24-hour care.
This has shown up on other blogs as well.
Sarah has managed to weave a very deceitful web - and she is so arrogant she does not realize she is going to get caught in it.

I read the open letter, at this point people pretty much have their mind made up about the lazy dumb con artist, but reading the comments in support of the skank I really believe most of them are from people like RAM, paid to rah rah.
Gotta earn those K's amirite RAM, you vomit inducing eyesore?

  73. So- Marilyn Lane WAS a chief of staff under a state senator while Sarah was governor.

And NOW- she does off season "clerical work".

Some serious digging needs to be done by the IRS, FEC, whomever the hell is supposed to watchdog these PACS, etc.

This is offensively ridiculous. $38,000 for postage in twelve weeks? During which time Sarah did not actively campaign on behalf of anyone? What exactly did she mail out?

Requests for donations, this is not new....you see it in every report. They spend huge amounts of money trying to bring in more money. It's like a strip tease. OMG, I got a letter from Sarah. Oh oh ohhhhhhhhhhhhh, must send more money, she needs me.

Data entry - they are acquiring lists of new marks and creating a list.

Clerical support - my opinion is that has always been child care for Trig and maybe Ruffles.

Me Again told us that Sarah PAC picks up the tab for his caregivers. Who better than trusted family friends.

  74. Have any of you seen all the references to Marilyn Lane in the troopergate articles and detailings?

Apparently when the investigator from the trooper's union was on the fence about whether or not Wooten should really face discipline (as the taser incident was a one off bad judgment call and shooting the moose under his wife's permit was a nonissue) Palin told him to talk to Marilyn and Adrian Lane- and they had a detailed, disturbing story of Wooten drinking alcohol while behind the wheel of his patrol car.

Seems like Sarah might have owed Marilyn after that. I just bet that's not the only "favor" Marilyn did for Sarah.

And the idiot bots say they are sending her more money because he wrote this open letter.

The funniest thing is that they all SAY they are sending donations, but Sarahpac only had 215 donations last quarter so those bots are not sending donations everytime they say they are. LMAO!!!!!!
The big drive to all send Sarah $20.12 only lists one donor at that amount, even though all the bots said they were sending her $$$$$

I have long thought some of those people were fakes associated with the PAC. They have several "people" say, "I just donated $100!" and other such nonsense so the other fools will think all the other lemmings are doing it so they should, too.

FYI--the paid cheerleaders over at the Great Sargasso Sea of Palinsanity are urging the remaining minions to send a PAC donation--!!but TODAY!!--in "honor" of Conor Friedersdorf. In fact, they're "doubling down" on their generous offerings to SP's clothing, nanny, housekeeper, plastic surgery, vacation, home decor and Taco Bell fund. Oh, did I say that? I MEANT Sarah's "Saving the Universe from the Eeeeevil Librul Marxist Commies" fund. Cough.

Whaddaya expect of one-celled organisms with unfortunate access to checking accounts?

Wonder if Todd has anything to do with SarahPAC. Could he be providing airmail services to her donors? (of the girl kind)? Or, offering a night out on the town, to a wealthy donor. Could Todd be an entertainment/welcome wagon host who knows how to show Sarah's donors a good time.

And, if he provided services to a donor, he would pay the "service" and get reimbursed later by SarahPAC as a data entry employee. Maybe all the mailings are photos and contacts.

Seriously, if this doesn't fall under the purview of the IRS, who does it concern? If she used this money for personal benefit, like extra earnings, one would think the IRS would still be interested.

Those sure sound like Palin's other cutesy business names. Also, too - that address in Austin TX is a condo, not an office building. Not sure who Andrew Davis is, either... Hmmm. He sure made a lotta money from this PAC!

Why isn't the IRS investigating Sarah's PAC when regular citizen can bring up so many negatives in her reporting? We know she is a fraud and will try to get away with anything she can 'unless the law stops her'! (Her quote, not mine!) I want to see Sarah and Todd in jail!

Todd should have a grand time in Tampa. That Channelside Bay Plaza. Lunch with the Hot Hooters girls, (hotter than Sarah with real boobies) bar hopping at the Howling at the Moon Bar. (best time you can have while not naked)........... All he needs is a happy ending at a massage parlor to sleep the sleep of a happy Alaskan stud.

And Sarah Palin can go shopping with her PAC funds for mementos of her trip to Tampa.

Todd Palin is not an Alaskan stud. He has a two-tone penis (Shailey spilled the beans!) and I'll wager it is very small which lends toward his aggressive behavior/bully like!

And, his wife, I'll wager is one cold fish in the sack!

The Palin Money Train is coming to a stop. Next we'll be hearing about Delinquent Property taxes on their properties. When Sarahpac is Depleted, she will have to go to her bank account to pay for Childcare. The Lavish lifestyle will have to change. Canned goods will be a good investment.

If I had been truthful, I would have told him that his penis was strange.

      It was rather small

And I had never seen one that was two different colors.

One of the C4pe'ers was wishing yesterday that there was an RV park near the Tampa Mall and they could have food and music and follow Sarah to Tampa.

Palin's trip to Tampa appears to be another stunt to intrude on Romney attention-like NH. If Romney is elected pres, (which would be horrible,), I bet Palin intends to try to make him miserable. No matter who is President, she will be an agitator.

By the way, whatever happened to "The Sarah Palin Legal Defense Fund" ?

You know ... the one she created after the first one was found to be an ethics violation ?

The one which stipulated that "no purpose for the withdrawal [of funds] need to be shown" ?

The one that, if you Google it for any stories in the past year, you get just two pages of zilch ?
