President's Press Conference today.

I thought the President did a good job of addressing the most pressing questions, though he was careful NOT to say anything that would complicate the ongoing investigation in the Petraeus scandal.

However one of the things he DID address was the Right Wing attacks on Ambassador Susan Rice, which clearly angered the President and he addressed them in the following manner (At 28:14 in the video):

Jonathan Karl.

Q: Thank you, Mr. President. Senator John McCain and Senator Lindsey Graham both said today that they want to have Watergate-style hearings on the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi and said that if you nominate Susan Rice to be secretary of state, they will do everything in their power to block her nomination. As Senator Graham said, he simply doesn’t trust Ambassador Rice after what she said about Benghazi. I’d like your reaction to that. And would those threats deter you from making a nomination like that?

PRESIDENT OBAMA: Well, first of all, I’m not going to comment at this point on various nominations that I’ll put forward to fill out my Cabinet for the second term. Those are things that are still being discussed.

But let me say specifically about Susan Rice, she has done exemplary work. She has represented the United States and our interests in the United Nations with skill and professionalism and toughness and grace. As I’ve said before, she made an appearance at the request of the White House in which she gave her best understanding of the intelligence that had been provided to her. If Senator McCain and Senator Graham and others want to go after somebody, they should go after me. And I’m happy to have that discussion with them. But for them to go after the U.N. ambassador, who had nothing to do with Benghazi and was simply making a presentation based on intelligence that she had received and to besmirch her reputation is outrageous.

And you know, we’re after an election now. I think it is important for us to find out exactly what happened in Benghazi, and I’m happy to cooperate in any ways that Congress wants. We have provided every bit of information that we have, and we will continue to provide information. And we’ve got a full-blown investigation, and all that information will be disgorged to Congress.

And I don’t think there’s any debate in this country that when you have four Americans killed, that’s a problem. And we’ve got to get to the bottom of it, and there needs to be accountability. We’ve got to bring those who carried it out to justice. They won’t get any debate from me on that.

But when they go after the U.N. ambassador, apparently because they think she’s an easy target, then they’ve got a problem with me.And should I choose — if I think that she would be the best person to serve America in the capacity — the State Department, then I will nominate her. That’s not a determination that I’ve made yet.

In other words, FUCK YOU John McCain!

I don't know about everybody else but I really appreciated the way that the President stood up for Susan Rice who has been vilified by these craven assholes simply to score political points.

He demonstrated to me at least that he is done playing Mr. Nice Guy with these douchbags and is ready for the fight if they want to bring it on.

And THAT certainly give me hope for what can be accomplished in this second term.

Now perhaps somebody should go on that bewigged banshee's Facebook page and ask her how she likes THOSE apples!

Today, the Senator told CBS News that he would block Ambassador Susan Rice’s confirmation if President Obama nominates her as the next Secretary of State, saying she’s ‘not being very bright’ and ‘not qualified.’

WHO THE FUCK did McCain pick as his vp candidate?

Sarah Palin went to six colleges in 5 years to get one degree!

    Sarah Palin couldn't tell you:
    1) What a vice president does.
    2) What she reads.
    3) If Africa is a continent or a country.
    4) Can't name a Supreme Court case even though there was an oil spill in Alaska that went to the Supreme Court.
    5) Can't say Joe Biden without saying Joe O'Biden.
    6) Can't tell you about Paul Revere 5 minutes after hearing a US Park Ranger tell her what happened.
    7) Can't tell you who the US allies are and no its not North Korea.

Sarah Palin went into a catatonic state during her debate prep!

Need I go on John McCain?

    1. DetroitSam11:39 PM

Did she really get a degree? Aren't there still some questions about whether she even finished college?

  2. Anonymous1:23 PM

Gryphen, in case you didn't see the comment on the last post.

Please consider removing Firedoglake from your feed. They are vile about the President. They have been for a long time, seriously, worse than the teabaggers.

    UK Lady.

    1. Anonymous1:32 PM

I agree. I only rarely look at Firedoglake; I can take a hint from their "headlines." Most of the time the writers there seem to be bloviating ultra-progressives of whom I am very tired. In many instances these ultra-progressives are as annoying and as irrelevant to any intelligent discussion of an issue as the far-right in this country.

  3. Can you imagine Lunatic Sarah being in front of the press answering questions NOT coming from FOX and her little bubble.Boy,did we dodge a bullet 4 years ago.

    1. Anonymous3:03 PM

She wouldn't--couldn't do it. Guess who had her full cabinet behind her during press conferences and had them answer all the questions?

    2. FUCK YOU MCCAIN!!!!!!8:25 PM

@3:03- Her amazing hubris thought that since she was able to single-handedly p;ace her religious & sycophantic schoolmates into highly-paid State Government positions,

she, too, also, could orchestrate this *amazing, stunning* charade on a national level.

      The Only. Thing. More. Amazing...

      Was how close she got.

  4. Anonymous2:04 PM

Might I remind the bewigged banshee that she is no longer an executive (she only "played one on TV" in the first place), she is not a member of the press, she is a washed-up celebrity with a huge chip on her shoulder and an axe to grind. My PRESIDENT doesn't owe her or anyone an explanation at this point in time.

Get over the fact that you LOST last week and let the adults take over, m'kay?!?

    1. Anonymous3:41 PM

I think that the chip on John McCain's shoulder is as large as Sarah's. What a pair of sore losers, after 4 years even!

  5. Randall2:08 PM

I believe there is nothing there - and therefore I HOPE McCain and Graham push it to the limit - and are forced to "fall on their political swords" over this.

  6. Anonymous2:09 PM

Does Gramps have a dirty diaper? He sure seems cranky today.

    Suck it, McCain....

    1. Anonymous3:20 PM

He is better than when he attacked the POW/MIA lady in front of a committee. He is a nasty vile old man. He called his own wife the C-word. Before his latest meds his peers were concerned about his hateful temper and insane rages.

  7. Go to and send McCain a message! That's what I did. Some of these senators don't take messages/e-mail from people out of their constituency, but McSame does! I'd say we should deluge him with notes about how stupid he is!

    1. Anonymous3:21 PM

Great idea. The fool should be hammered and don't let up.

  8. Go to and send McCain a message! That's what I did. Some of these senators don't take messages/e-mail from people out of their constituency, but McSame does! I'd say we should deluge him with notes about how stupid he is!

    1. Anonymous3:38 PM

I just sent this to McCain:

I used to like you but you are no longer liked by me. Your partisanship was alive and well today over Susan Rice. Unqualified? This from the man who gave us Palin? Did you trash Colin Powell when he was given false info and passed it on to the UN as gospel and then a dang war was started in Iraq? Where was the outrage then Senator? We were lied to but didn't know until well after the fact. Ms. Rice told what she had been told and apparently what YOU had been told as well, at the time. She said however the investigation was ongoing. Your petty jealousy of the POTUS has been evident before but no better example have I ever seen, than today. Please consider retirement. You need a break and so do the American people!

    2. Anonymous4:18 PM

      3:38 PM

      WELL DONE!

  9. Anonymous2:23 PM

Watched it today and yes, the President was justified in showing frustration at the besmirching of Susan Rice. As he was speaking, I was Soooooo thankful he is the POTUS.

A thought occurred to me how a President Palin could absolutely not have been able to handle that kind of press conference. She would have had to have her 'ghost president' standing beside her answering questions that she, Sarah couldn't handle; there's just no way that that woman could even pull off a performance as President. Her voice and her tone and her inability to answer on the spot. And she believed she could win against President Obama.

    1. Anonymous3:23 PM

She would have already knocked off McCain and self destructed into oblivion.

    2. Anonymous3:43 PM

I don't think Mitt Romney could handle a real presidential press conference either. Having refused to talk to reporters for over three weeks before the election, he probably would never have held a press conference had he won. Thank God he didn't.

  10. Anonymous4:15 PM

Judging from Obama’s answer it is clear that there is a new reelected sheriff in town, and he is not going to put up with anymore of this Republican BS. Obama is done, and if John McCain wants to throw down over Susan Rice, the president is ready. Obama essentially dared McCain and Graham to man up and come after him.

  11. Anonymous4:43 PM

Oh? According to Romney, this is how President Obama won.

"Mitt Romney told donors on a call Wednesday that President Barack Obama outmatched him by offering "gifts" to African Americans, Hispanics and young voters, according to various news outlets."

"The former Republican nominee also made similar arguments on another call earlier in the day, CNN confirmed."

"Free contraceptives were very big with young college-aged women,"

    1. Anonymous5:15 AM

What is "free" about birth control pills covered by insurance? Since when are there no deductibles and copays or cost the insured pays for prescriptions?

  12. Anonymous5:19 PM

I am Barack Obama and I am the President!

That is what it felt like today! The line from The American President movie with Michael Douglas.

  13. Anonymous5:24 PM

BREAKING: New raw unedited video of Sarah Palin speaking at a recent event:

  14. Anonymous5:33 PM

President Obama to John McCain: You Got a Problem with Me Old Man?

Judging from Obama’s answer it is clear that there is a new reelected sheriff in town, and he is not going to put up with anymore of this Republican BS. Obama is done, and if John McCain wants to throw down over Susan Rice, the president is ready. Obama essentially dared McCain and Graham to man up and come after him.

The president knows that McCain and Graham have nothing, and McCain’s promise to block Rice if she is nominated is just the old man trying to jump into the right wing media Benghazi conspiracy theory spotlight. Sarah Jones already covered the laughable hypocrisy of the man who tried to convince the country that Sarah Palin was qualified to be vice president questioning the sterling resume and qualifications of Amb. Rice. But if McCain wants to dance, Obama signaled today that he is more than ready to go.

Since winning reelection, Obama is flexing his political muscles in ways that we haven’t seen before. The president has been emboldened and strengthened by his victory, and he looks ready to take on all challengers. So far, Obama is doing a great job balancing his willingness to compromise, with a don’t screw with me toughness that is certain to give Republicans fits.

This isn’t the Obama of 2010. This is second term Obama, and he isn’t in the mood to play games with those who are looking to score cheap media points, like John McCain.

Here’s a little straight talk for the Arizona senator. Sen. McCain, listen to Obama. This president is ready to kick your butt all over D.C. He already took you to the woodshed once in 2008, and he is not afraid to do it again.

You are not some lowly tea party House member. You are a United States senator, so be smart and back off before Obama has bring the power of the POTUS down on your sorry backside.

    1. Anonymous7:38 AM

"You feeling luck PUNK, go ahead, make my day."

  15. Anonymous5:36 PM

Obama Uses His Press Conference to Set a Tax Cut Trap for House Republicans

The president made it clear that he wants the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy gone. As far as raising revenue, the president repeatedly said that he is open to new ideas from all sides.

Some on the left hear this kind of talk and immediately freak out, but this is a strategic move on the part of the White House. By opening the door to new ideas from all sides, the president is putting the ball in the House Republicans’ court. He is forcing them get serious about cutting a deal. Obama’s offer isn’t a display of weakness.

The president is setting a trap.

    1. Anonymous5:21 AM

Someone I know is outraged by the distraction that Obama is against financial success. The proposal is that America was more economicly sound during the Clinton administration at those tax rates.

  16. Anonymous6:04 PM

i have only one thing to say to John McCain: SARAH PALIN!

  17. Anonymous6:17 PM

Pat Robertson On General Petraeus, Paula Broadwell Affair: 'He's A Man' (VIDEO)

Television evangelist and ultraconservative Pat Robertson doesn't think General David Petraeus should be condemned for his affair with writer Paula Broadwell. After all, she is "an extremely good looking woman" and "he's a man."

Robertson excused CIA Director Petraeus for the extramarital affair with his biographer, Broadwell, on Monday's episode of "The 700 Club," the flagship program of the Christian Broadcasting Network.

"Who knows?" he said. "The man's off in a foreign land and he's lonely and here's a good looking lady throwing herself at him. I mean, he's a man."

This is just all kinds of backward!

  18. Anita Winecooler7:50 PM

I loved this speech. He most certainly drew a line in the sand. Go ahead McCain and Graham, two old white codgers shredding a Woman to shreds and spreading unfounded lies will go over real well with the American Public.

    Off Topic-

Romney gives his last words on the election he just lost to his donors-

Did everyone get their gift? I did, his name is Barack Obama!!!

Keep it up, Mitt, we need another democratic president in four years. A latina female would do the trick, but any of em, all of em are fine with me!!

  19. Anonymous7:10 AM

I second that emotion, FUCK You McCain, and I hope that you find a cure for the herpes that Sarah gave you.

Don't feed the trolls!
It just goes directly to their thighs.
