Police officer fired for reporting that police assigned to protect President were making threats against his life.

Courtesy of Raw Story:

A Richmond police officer who reported fellow cops for allegedly threatening President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama has been fired from his job on the force.

WTVR on Wednesday confirmed that the officer, who did not wish to be named, had been called to police headquarters where he was terminated on Tuesday.

The officer blew the whistle on a 20-year department veteran and other members of the Richmond force after they made inappropriate comments while providing protection to the president and first lady.

“There was an officer providing exterior security to the president on that day on the phone with the supervisor,” the whistleblower explained to WTVR last May. “The supervisor said to that particular officer, ‘you’re down there right? So, you can take a couple of shots, you might have to kill yourself, but you can take a couple of shots.’”

He said that the supervisor made those comments to a sharpshooter on the day of the president’s visit to Richmond.

And “another officer in the background started talking and he said, ‘yeah, somebody should plant a bomb underneath the stage while they’re on there and blow it up,’” the source said.

Inappropriate remarks were also made about Michelle Obama.

“Nobody wants to see her anyway — unless she gets undressed or get [sic] naked,” an officer allegedly said.

On Wednesday, the whistleblower told WTVR that he had been fired for violating department policy by doing an interview with the station.

Virginia employment attorney Thomas Robert pointed out that the officer should have been protected under the First Amendment because he was “speaking about a matter of public concern as a citizen.”

WTF? How is this guy not considered a hero and given a commendation for exposing officers making terrorist threats against our President?

And I don't give a shit if they were saying those things in jest or not, when a person makes jokes about a bomb on a plane they find themselves detained, and getting grilled by Homeland Security. I would think that making even casual remarks about harming the President, especially a President who receives as many death threats as this one, would be considered extremely serious and the person that brought them to the attention of the authorities should expect to have his job protected.

I might add "WTF? How are those that threatened NOT under arrest??"

Another example of cops out protecting their own.

  3. Apparently, he was in direct opposition to the department's official view. Richmond is now part of the deep south, you know.

Our police departments across the nation amaze me! Pay attention to the one in your town or city. Be ready to hold them accountable.

I wonder why more and more police today are shooting to kill someone vs just harming them to keep them from doing whatever they are doing! They shoot people today that have sticks for crying out loud! And, nothing is done to those policemen.

President Obama needs to be protected more than any other president on record. Mainly because he is 'just' half black and the fat, white Republicans detest him....to include John McCain, John Boehner, and turtle face from Kentucky that said he would try to keep him from winning a second term! The KKK is still alive and well - no doubt about it.

Typical cops. Racist blood thirsty brutes who refuse to follow the rules.

Only a small percentage in this country are brave enough to be "whistleblowers" - they lose their jobs. So corruption abounds; very sad. But the police guarding the President??? Unbelievable that he would lose his job for reporting threats!

I have heard of some of the Secret Service "not liking" the President. Should they guard the President if they don't "like" him? I wonder.

I'll be surprised if the Feds aren't investigating this.

Here's the question tho. Did this whistle blower try to report this up the chain of command and get ignored or have it covered up? In that case, I'd guess he had a case, especially if he had any kind of proof. If he went straight to the media, I can understand why he might have been fired. There's a chain of command that should be followed. If his department didn't follow up, then he should have gone to the Feds, not a news organization.

Every time a GOP-er is caught saying something outrageous, the excuse is that it was just a joke. From John McCain to police supervisors to David Brooks it's always the same. "Just a joke, folks. Don't take it seriously." I sure hope the Secret Service takes what those police officials in Richmond said seriously. No joking.

    1. Hey, whoa. Let's not disparage an entire city because of some ignoramuses. Richmond is a fairly progressive city and President Obama won about 70% of the vote here.

I live across the river from Virginia, I am not surprised. Yes, Richmond is Cantor Country and where they easily passed the invasive sonagram exams on women.

I am not at all surprised. He's lucky someone did not sneak into his house and do him in!!

This guy (who had the whistle blown on him) isn't just "a person" who 'made some 1st amendment comments' - this was a COP.

This was "a person" who took an oath to uphold the law and if this guy thinks that oath is a joking matter - he should at least be fired.

...and the guy who blew the whistle on him should be commended and rewarded.

Ugh, I hope he sues the living daylights out of that department!

  18. He should have been all sorts of protected, both by whistleblower and first amendment.

I'll bet the jokesters are still on the force and having a good laugh about sticking it to this patriotic police officer.

Well, no way would I go back to that job. But I'd sue them for a lot of money, then move to someplace that would appreciate both my experience and my patriotism. Ethical, honorable police officers should be embraced, not fired.
