When the debate over guns is worth killing for. Two Ricin laced letters sent to Mayor Bloomberg. (Update: And one to the President as well.)

Courtesy of ABC News:

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is the latest high-profile target of poison-tainted letters sent though the mail, police revealed yesterday.

The leader of the nation's largest city was threatened anonymously in two letters sent to Bloomberg's offices in Manhattan and Washington, D.C., NYPD spokesperson Paul Browne said. An undisclosed number of New York cops who responded to one of the letters now "are being examined for minor symptoms of ricin exposure," but the potentially dangerous substance never reached the mayor.

"The writer, in the letters, threatened Mayor Bloomberg, with references to the debate on gun laws," Browne said.

Saying he has a "constitutional and God-given right and I will exercise that right 'til I die," the author warned that the government would have to kill him before he would relinquish his weapons, a source told ABC News.

You know I think that somebody's bluff is about to be called.

I have no idea how anybody believes that sending this kind of threat would EVER benefit their side of the argument, but I will also add that there are a number of gun owners, especially those Right Wing fringe, who share this lunatic's determination to hang onto their weapons.

And of course, as those of us who are NOT suffering from a mental instability realize, the proposed bills would NOT take anybody's gun away.

A recent update has more from the letter: According to the source, the letter warned:

“You will have to kill me and my family before you get my guns.” It concluded with the line: “What’s in this letter is nothing compared to what I’ve got planned for you.”

Once again indicating that his is exactly the type of people who SHOULD have their guns taken away.

Update: It now looks as if there was a Ricin laced letter sent to President Obama as well.

Don't think he will get to keep his guns in prison.

I plop the lethal atmosphere that enables looneytunes like this one squarely in the lap of the Grand Old Party. The invective that has poured rentlessly from the from the mouths of its leaders (That be You Miss McConnell, Mr. Imhof, Mr. Cantor, Murky etc.) to curry favor with civics-challenged meatballs and pop up the spotlights on Fox News has created it. Because of it, none of the people's business can be done and bills for toilet paper are held up while Ted Cruz checks the Constitutution to see if birch bark or moss could be substitute. Soooo tired of this.

While the GOP has certainly been responsible for the historic levels of irrational hate in this country, don't forget give some credit to the NRA for fear mongering and creating the hysteria that the secret gangs from the gubmint are coming to take everyone's guns away.

Better buy lots more guns and ammo RIGHT NOW while you still can so you can defend yourselves against the entire United States military with your glorified pea shooters!

GOP + NRA = guaranteed violence

    2. I expect they wouldn't care much if Obama and Bloomberg succumbed to ricin or another assassination attempt.

All you'd see would be crocodile tears in public and you'd hear gleeful laughter behind closed doors.

That is how low the g NO p has sunk.

O/T Oil tankers off the Alaska coast—Do they rely on GPS?

Governments confront rising threat to ships from signal jamming

South Korea has already experienced waves of signal jamming since 2010 on ships and aircraft, its officials said.

Vessels increasingly rely on systems that employ satellite signals to find a location or keep exact time, including the Global Positioning System (GPS).

Experts say GPS is vulnerable to signal loss from solar weather effects or radio and satellite interference and can also be affected by intentional jamming by criminal gangs, nation states or potentially from militant groups.

"When a ship loses GPS, multiple systems go down altogether and there is nothing which tells the captain this is due to jamming. The danger of a grounding or a collision is then ever present," said David Last, strategic advisor to the General Lighthouse Authorities of the UK and Ireland (GLA).

"GPS failure on a dark night with low visibility is simply terrifying for a crew," Last said.

Time to get some sextants on board these vessels and train people how to fucking use them. What worked when humans first started long sea voyages still works.

These extreme right folks are a joke to the USA. I hope the FBI goes after these folks - arrests them - puts them on trial and that they end up in jail for eons.

I hope we will hear right away that this lunatic has been found and captured. This behavior, in addition to being illegal, is treasonous when targeted at our president.

  6. Everyone agrees that the mentally unstable should not have guns. So if you want to keep your guns, you don't go out of your way to portray to the world that you are mentally unstable.

So when this nutjob is cornered by the FBI and taken alive, he will lose every last gun he has AND he'll lose his freedom. For how long is anyone's guess. But when he is returned to the real world, he will no longer be eligible to own a gun.

And he did it all to himself.

My hope is that, because of the direct threat in these letters as well as the poison, this guy spends the rest of his life in federal prison - where he will not be able to take his guns to bed at night. His "First Amendment" rights ended when he included the poison and when he made direct threats. His "Second Amendment" rights end when he gets arrested.

It's quite warm here where I live this evening and it makes me all the more impatient with the seemingly huge segment of the population that is becoming increasingly wacko!

My patience is running thin with these nutjobs. Threaten a Mayor and a President, I may consider changing my view on the death penalty

This isn't called "winning". Where are the sane people in the GOP speaking out publicly against this?

Oh, nevermind, there aren't any sane people left in the GOP.
