2nd Amendment gun nut arrested for having gun in Freedom Plaza and for possession of hallucinogenic mushrooms. Guns and mind altering substances, oh yeah THAT goes together!

Courtesy of the Washington Post:

Police searched the Northern Virginia home of activist Adam Kokesh Tuesday evening and took him into custody on a charge of being in possession of hallucinogenic mushrooms while also having a gun, authorities said.

Kokesh, a former Marine, was held overnight at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, charged with possession of schedule I or II drugs while in possession of a firearm, said Lt. Steve Elbert, a spokesman for the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office.

Kokesh refused to be fingerprinted or arraigned, or to speak with court officials on Wednesday morning, said Nancy Lake, Clerk of the Fairfax County General District Court.

“We were expecting this. We were expecting the government to raid our house,” Darrell Young, Kokesh’s roommate, told WRC-TV (Channel 4).

U.S. Park Police Lt. Pamela Smith said her agency executed a search warrant at Kokesh’s home in Herndon about 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, looking for a weapon. The park police are the federal agency responsible for policing Freedom Plaza, the concrete park a few blocks from the White House where — in a video posted to YouTube on July 4 — Kokesh appears to load a shotgun in violation of D.C. gun laws.

Smith said she did not know if the YouTube video was the reason for the search warrant. Carrying a loaded weapon, concealed or unconcealed, is against the law in the District. The possession of a firearm not registered in the District carries a penalty up to a year in prison.

Such a moron.

"We were expecting this." What? You were expecting to be arrested for breaking the law? Damn you're just like a modern day Nostradamus!

This Kokesh guy essentially makes terrorist threats while standing in the middle of Washington D.C., just so he can complain later on that we are living in a police state when they come to arrest him.

I swear gun toting drama queens are the worst!

Oh well at least now he gets the opportunities to make friends in prison with OTHER folks who hate the government, and are convinced their rights are being taken away from them.

Mitch McConnell Goes Hysterical Drama Queen Over Reid’s Filibuster Reform Threat

...Harry Reid’s hints to reporters about addressing filibuster reform on Thursday were accurate, and now everyone in DC is donning fallout gear because Mitch McConnell has succumbed to the siren call of drama queen hysteria, Southern style.

Nothing riles Republicans up more than the someone trying to stop them from tyrannical rule. Oh, the injustice of it, it’s enough to make them spitting mad. Mad enough for Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell(R-KY) to refer to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s (D-NV) “tombstone” on the Senate floor, because Congress is apparently just another schoolyard for Republicans.

...So what is Mitch getting so hysterical about? It’s as if he got a paper cut and is crying murder. But hysteria is sort of Mitch’s thing. When Reid broached the issue of Republicans’ violating all rules of good governance with their abuse of the filibuster in May, McConnell squeaked that he felt “intimidated” by mean old Harry Reid. As I explained Tuesday, Reid can change the rules with just 51 votes if he’s willing to use the “nuclear option” for the first time.

Mitch McConnell is your typical coward who only plays a bully when he has back up. Reid is not threatening to take away all of Mitch’s toys. Reid is only talking about taking away one of the thousands of toys McConnell and his Republicans stole from the people. Just one. And for that, we get mention of Reid’s tombstone on the Senate floor. ..

Discarded Romney Campaign Swag Now a Huge Hit in African Villages

There is nonetheless something wonderfully ironic about this story. Romney is now all but forgotten in our rearview mirrors, but his name lives on in Kenya.

Trapped: An air escape from Moscow unlikely for NSA leaker Snowden

Beginning a third week holed up in a Moscow airport’s transit zone, Edward Snowden finds himself far enough away to evade U.S. authorities, but also too far from any of the sympathetic nations willing to shelter him.

Aviation experts say that even if Snowden accepts the tentative offers of Venezuela, Nicaragua or Bolivia to give him shelter, it’s virtually impossible to chart a flight plan to those nations that doesn’t include traveling over or refueling in a U.S.-friendly country that could demand inspection of the plane – and detain him.

Nations have full, exclusive jurisdiction over their airspace, so any plane carrying Snowden could be forced to land if it flies over the territory of a country that’s willing to help American authorities capture the fugitive intelligence contractor. Snowden faces felony charges in the United States for leaking classified documents that detailed the National Security Agency’s extensive surveillance apparatus.

“Nations control their airspace up to the heavens, the old saying goes,” said John Q. Mulligan, an aviation law expert at DePaul University’s College of Law. “Just look at the map. It’s probably possible to figure out a route that wouldn’t touch the airspace of the United States or any friendly nations, but it wouldn’t be easy.”

Snowden’s best hope for breaking out of the transit area most likely hinges on whether he could sneak onto one of five weekly, direct flights to Havana, Cuba. One such flight landed Tuesday evening, another leaves Thursday afternoon. The main drawback? The path takes the plane directly over the United States, which could flout a standing treaty and force a regularly scheduled commercial flight to land.

There are airplanes that can make the 6,000-mile direct flight from Moscow to Havana or Caracas with fuel to spare. The Airbus A340 has a range of about 9,000 miles and a Boeing 777 can fly for 9,400 miles before refueling. But a direct flight would mean passing through the airspace of European nations and possibly the United States. And chartering such a craft would be incredibly expensive – $100,000 to start, and that’s if a charter service could be found willing to risk angering the United States and perhaps being accused of aiding a fugitive.

“I don’t know what sort of plane they’d have available to make that flight, especially without refueling,” Mulligan said. “A refueling stop would probably be problematic for Snowden.”

While President Barack Obama has said he wouldn’t be “scrambling jets” to haul in Snowden, the U.S. government has shown that it can pressure countries that would serve as pit stops for Snowden on his way to Latin America or other potential exile destinations. Snowden has petitioned more than 25 countries for asylum; the State Department has promised “grave difficulties” for bilateral relations with any nation that aids his escape.

The thing is, his revelations have had HUGE repercussions for American citizens abroad already. Americans are being fired and not hired all over Europe now, because those countries do not want the US snoing even more than they have been doing. They do not want the CIA and FBI and the NSA ans who-ever-else to come and snoop even more. They do not want to open their books to the IRS, which they have been forced to do this last year. An American citizen - even if they are a dual citizen with a European passport - CANNOT open a simple savings or checking account anymore I Switzerland. That country just fired over 500 Amercans, and they refuse to hire even the most qualified experts, if those people happen to have a US passport.

US DELIVERS ITS BIGGEST BUDGET SURPLUS IN 5 YEARS

Outlays plunge 46% from a year ago.

According to new Monthly Treasury Statement , the U.S. posted a $116.5 billion budget surplus in June.

Revenue climbed 10.2% to $286.6 billion, while outlays plunged 46.8% to $170.1 billion.

This is the biggest surplus since April 2008.

This was also higher than the $115 billion surplus expected by the CBO and by economists surveyed by Bloomberg.

"Some of the swing in the budget in today’s report for June will be exaggerated by calendar quirks and a payment from Fannie Mae, but the trend is clearly toward improvement," said High Frequency Economics' Jim O'Sullivan before the statement was released.

"The deficit has dropped to an estimated 4.4% of GDP in the past four quarters from 8.0% in the previous four quarters and more than 10% at the peak in 2009. The downtrend has reflected strength in revenues as well as weakness in outlays. Some of the strength in revenues is the result of higher tax rates, but the data also suggest that GDP may have been undercounted."

"Without those calendar shifts, the difference between the surplus in June and deficit last year would have been $102B," said UBS's Maury Harris ahead of the statement.

Fiscal year-to-date, the budget deficit sits at $510 billion.

"If the current laws that govern federal taxes and spending do not change, the budget deficit will shrink this year to $642 billion, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimates, the smallest shortfall since 2008," said the Congressional Budget Office in May.

Randall at 10:58 had the same thought I had: If he's "expecting this," why would he stock up on drugs?

My second thought was now that drugs were found, maybe it's HIS turn for some of that "asset forfeiture" stuff from the Reagan years. So if and when he gets out of jail he can come home to...well...nothing!
